I played singleplayer for a couple of hours at a friends place, it's a blast. Nothing really tactical about it, more of a linear arcade shooter romp, but it's great. A lot of variation throughout (could have been some more variation in the assault rifles though), and there's a lot of the great action moments if you keep and eye out. Things like having a sniper and 2 RPG's on top of the building only to see some well placed explosives at the foundation of the building. One well placed shot and you have to pause to stop laughing. The sound is excellent, and from what I could figure of it without going into too much depth (or reading the manual) is for the sound settings is : Headphones (obvious) Small speakers (also obvious, dulled down sounds to go better through less powerful speakers) HiFi (not so obvious, basically 2.0/2.1 with some upmix effect to make background sound come out the rear/surround speakers in a 5.1/7.1 setup) Home Cinema (True 5.1 surround. Sounds excellent) War Tapes (Basically Home Cinema with the frequencies amped up, the volumes more dynamic and in your face, sounds brilliant but overemphasizes some things it shouldn't, like the EAX echo effects that start sounding like you're drowning, or the jeep engine that sounds like several engines on top of each other) On any setting the sound is brilliant though. Especially the different EAX effects in different situations (tunnels, inside buildings, etc) One thing I did find a little odd with the singleplayer, and I'm not sure if it translates over to multiplayer at all, is that sometimes I would line up a shot with a sniper rifle, then I'd get shot sending my scope a good height above (and often to the side of) the target, fire the shot and the target would still drop dead.

I considered it, but I pre-ordered it online for AU$50 being the cheapest place, the second cheapest being off Steam for US$70. I'm cheap enough to wait.

I emailed my supplier this morning asking when BC2 would be shipped, they emailed back fast saying "Sorry, that game hasn't been released yet" I emailed back, "yes it has", so they emailed back, "Sorry, but we haven't received stock of the item yet. We do not currently have an ETA of when stock will arrive"

Seems the directors of Infinity Ward were fired by Activision and now they're taking Activision to court over unlawful dismissal. They're also attempting to gain full control of the CoD franchise after the release of CoD : Vietnam. Source : http://www.ausgamers.com/ I think it was pretty noble of them not to try and contest the release of Vietnam, knowing that if they did the game would be tied into the court battle and wouldn't see release (or possibly even further production) til after the court case was settled.

Now we get to see if they'll carry better support than another certain title

Call of Duty Action/Adventure.... I kinda get the feeling of the Tekken 6 adventure part.

I had this happen to me in Borderlands. Some other games worked, but Borderlands and some other networking stuff didn't work (wouldn't show any games in Borderlands). Narrowed it down to a bugged TCP/IP stack in Windows 7 64bit. Had to reinstall windows to fix it.

Try going into your routers setup page and make sure there's nothing like "Block incoming ICMP" enabled.

ArmA2 / OA (low) performance issues
Bulldogs replied to R3fl3x's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Make sure you've updated to patch 1.05. After that, try running the game with -winxp at the end of the shortcut (in the target box after the quotation marks) -
Sound good, let us know when it's ready. I love indy games (happy to play test if you need help too) As for fixing the problem, there's always a solution. It's just a matter of how much effort, time (and sometimes money) you're willing to put in to find the solution, and if you think it's worth it. You didn't seem to like Arma 2 as it was when it worked, so it's probably best not to spend your time looking for a solution that you may not want.

Yes I was, I get bored easily.

Try uninstalling then copy the contents of your DVD to a folder on your hard drive then right click your arma 2 setup/installation in that folder and run it as administrator. After installation is complete, do the same for the 1.05 patch (run it as administrator) If that fails. Try again, but download the 1.04 patch and try installing that before the 1.05 patch.

ARMA 2 CTD but still running in Task Manager

You could try setting your page file to : Initial size : 8gb Max size : 30gb (if you have enough free disk space) I can't say it'll work for sure, but if Arma is flooding the page file and windows isn't adjusting to a new commit size then there's a chance that's what's causing the issue. Raising the max size of the page file to a manual size could at least prevent the crash from occuring for a while. -
It seems a little odd that I ordered the limited edition meaning I could get th day 1 unlocks, but I won't be getting the game for another 2 months due to slow delivery. Fortunately the limited edition was $2 more

That's good to hear. That info was from ausgamers, I'll let em know that their info is wrong

For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, the dedicated server files are released with a few big catches : 1. It seems you need to own the game on Steam to be able to install the dedicated server software. 2. You need to install the whole game (15gb) to be able to run a server. 3. You need Steam running to be able to run a server. 4. You need one Steam account per physical server (which means buying one copy of the game per machine).

Yep, not a bug. It was put in to simulate the lack of grass at a distance so people couldn't cheat in multiplayer by being a certain distance away.

ArmA2 / OA (low) performance issues
Bulldogs replied to R3fl3x's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Just be careful with turning off the page file. Only do it if you have 6gb or more RAM and only fo it if you are using Windows 64bit. In some cases it'll have no effect, in some cases it'll improve performance, and in some cases it'll cause instability which can lead to crashing and such. So if you do it and have problems, re-enabling your page file should be your first step. -
Especially since the first mission in the campaign is basically world at war

I had a play test on it and I have to say that it's a lot like MW2 but more arcadey. It has a lot up on MW2 though in the multiplayer (multi is a lot of fun) due to the destruction system and that MW2 took a little too much arcade out of what is meant to be an arcade romp. Kinda made it feel not quite right. The singleplayer really reminds me of Modern Warfare in many aspects, but probably closer to the Medal of Honor games. It's very arcadey and it has some things that just don't seem right, like the first mission... how many times are the japanese soldiers standing 3 ft away from you, staring at you, yet they never see you. That kinda feels stupid. But the campaign gets better but from what I played of it, it never got as tense as MW2, but at the same time MW2 became too overboard to the point where you no longer cared about surviving because you knew that no matter what you did there would be 1000 enemies spawning around you that could all kill you in miliseconds, so you'd just run and gun and reload til you made it through. For singleplayer it's not really worth the purchase (then again, other than Arma, name an FPS that is), but the multiplayer is great if you're looking for a new romp game.

I had this issue with one of the Arma beta patches a while back. But it'd only happen in certain areas when I looked in certain directions, and I've reinstalled several times since then so it could have been corruption in the installation, but I can't say for sure that's what fixed it 'cause I can't remember when it went away.

I considered D2D but it's not available for Australians, EA store is the same as retail price for Australians (around $100) and Steam bumped their price up drastically while I wasn't looking.

That's what I get for living in the wrong country. Australian PCGamer magazine has gone a bit downhill of late. All the games I love they game horrible ratings to, the game I hate they said were perfection, even to the point that they mentioned how they were glad that DR was out so they didn't have to put up with Arma 2 anymore. They do still have some good people there, like one reviewer that got me hooked onto "the void".... trippy game. Man, this thread is making me realise that I should start developing a mod or something. I really haven't done anything worthy since the Operation Flashpoint mission making days.

If you manually set the affinity to the physical cores in arma 2 it causes a problem where all data is fighting for usage of the cores believing it has more cores than it actually has (this is because it initially loads with all cores accessable then changes affinity leaving too many threads to fight over the limited resources) as mentioned, if you plan to run with HT enabled then run with -cpucount=4 ( if it's still causing issues use 2, I run a non HT quad core and get slighty better performance with 2 cores than 4 cores specified by cpucount due to the slight performance difference from CPU switching)
