  1. All you'll need to do is underclock your video card slightly, which sounds odd but should sort you out. My cards had a factory overclock on them, and pulling that back a bit sorted out my n4v_disp errors completely.

Glad to hear that solved your problems. Nothing is more frustrating than having a good computer and not being able to use it!

  2. Interesting I should find this thread. I recently went to a bit of an extreme to conquer ARMAII's HDD pounding behavior. This behavior is not unlike that of MMORPG's as they have game worlds that constantly stream into memory as ARMAII does. I remembered back to my old Everquest 2 days, and the things I did back then to get the HDD activity as quick and snappy as possible.

Long story short: I now have my Win7 x64 on it's own HDD. And my ARMAII is on it's own HDD as well, alongside my windows pagefile (which is configured to be solid size - That is to say that it starts as large and it ends, this prevents fragmentation of data by quite a bit).

What this does is greatly reduce the effects of "load lag". The drops and interrupts in frame rate that occur when the game caches info from the HDD into memory (which is ALL the time, while playing).

You can even take it one step further, like me, and put ARMA in a partition on the outside edge of the disc of that HDD.

Why? Because data on the outside edge of a HDD's platter is much narrower than it would be at the front of the platter. When you move all the game's data and your systems pagefile to outside of the platter, it reduces the mechanical arm movement needed to read the data on the disk.

It also doesn't hurt that my dedicated ARMAII HDD is in fact two 10,000RPM HDD's in a Raid0 configuration, lol

And so what are your results because of it?

  3. It's a display error (obviously), so it won't have anything to do with hosting.

I had this same exact error for awhile and couldn't figure out how to solve it, until someone mentioned that my GPU was overheating and to try lowering the clocks. I knew that was incorrect because I had been monitoring the temps and they were 58-60° C, even at full load. Temperature and cooling was obviously not the issue here. My card is a factory overclocked GTX 285, from BFG no less.

I figured what the hell, I'll lower my clocks anyway down to the stock Nvidia clock speeds and see what happens. Lo and behold, I could play just fine. There were two specific places in Crysis and one in COD4 that would cause this error every single time without fail, so I was able to test it properly. Time and time again it would freeze with the BFG clocks at the exact same points. Now that I've lowered it to Nvidia's specs, I play without a single problem on stock clocks (need to update my signature).

Even though your temperatures are good, try lowering your clocks to at least the stock speeds and see what happens. If you still run into the occasional error, drop them little by little until it's fully stable. It's nice to have higher clocks, but if you can't use them, what's the point?

EDIT: I see you're starting to suspect SLI, so I should mention my problems came (and went) before I got my second 285. Anyway, I hope sharing my personal experiences help you somehow.

  4. So I've seen a lot of threads about crashing to desktop (CTD), texture errors, and various other issues regarding performance and video memory, but I've not seen a problem similar to mine.

Basically what happens is I'll be playing for about 10-15 minutes with fantastic performance (60 fps on Very High) and then I'll hit brick wall. My frames will all of sudden drop to about 5-10 fps and will never recover. All I have to do to fix the issue is save my progress, close ArmA, then reload it from my saved point and I'm good to again for 10-15 minutes until I run out of memory again.

My PC specs are in my signature, and I'm currently using the EVGA fix for SLI. Settings are default Very High, except fillrate is set to 100% (1920x1200), and Video Memory is set to Very High.

Obviously clearing the videocards' memory works great. Is there anyway to force the game to do this on the fly while in-game?

EDIT: For the record, I've tried the 182.50 drivers and also various command line parameters (specifically -xp and -maxmem=2047).

  5. It's a fairly common problem, unfortunately, with Nvidia cards. The Nvidia forums are littered with posts like this for all games and all cards, but no fix as been posted. Nvidia hasn't even admitted a problem. Luckily though I solved my crashes by slightly underclocking one of my cards.

Also, you should update your drivers. It only takes a few minutes and might even resolve your problem altogether.

  6. No, he's not. You're just a douche that thinks that because you don't do it no one does. Most PC gamers use inverted controls, and most console gamers that played from Halo or before, use inverted controls. Some break the habit, most don't. Unless you're 15, you more than likely have used Inverted at one point, or still do.

    Stupid kid.

Anyhow, it doesn't work for mine either. Tried it both ways mapping the button. I like using the controller a lot more than the mouse. Just flows better normally plus you get rumble which makes the game a lot easier to get immersed in. Plus I don't have an office chair, so it's easier to pull up this comfy chair and play PC games like they were console games.

Anyone know of a way to fix this? :(

Haha wow, you registered just to insult me? I'm flattered.

Anyway, I'm probably older than you, if your mental capacity (or lack thereof) is anything to go by. I'd never be caught dead playing Halo, but again, seeing your mental capacity, I'm not surprised you do. Most console games don't even have inverted controls as an option, let alone the default. Ever wonder why that is? Because hardly anyone uses it.

Most PC gamers use inverted controls? happy0007.gif I surely hope that's not a serious statement. Unless you're talking about flying, which nobody has even mentioned in this thread, nobody uses inverted controls on the PC. How many PC games have you actually played? Go troll on the Halo forums.

  7. Ive tried a few things now and am not seeing much difference.

I have installed the latest Arma 2 patch and have the following system:

    Cryo Pc

    I7 920 @ 3.7ghz

    2 x 285 GTX's in SLI

    6gig Ram

    Raid 0 drives

    Running Gamebooster

    FRAPS

Ive tried the following in diff combinations:

    crysis.exe

    crysis64.exe

    -winzip

    -nosplash

i still dont seem to get much over 35FPS in campaign, average 20 to 30.

Get 60FPS in start up screen, which obviosuly is capped.

mostly on high/normal settings at 1200-1084 (something like that). Have tried higher and not much difference.

i even think i was getting marginally better FPS when i went back to Arma2 and used only 1x285GTX? That seems odd.

I get the distinct feeling its not maxing my CPU/Graphic cards, it just wont run any higher for some reason?

    Optimisation please BIS?

You definitely don't need SLI at 1280x1024. That will definitely hurt performance more than it will help.

Also, try -winxp, not -winzip.

  8. Ehhh, you realize AA has no effect on shadows, right? Shadow fidelity is something completely different. AA only softens the edges along 3d objects.
    What he said ;)

Tweedle dee and tweedle dum huh? I circled more than shadows, and even mentioned it in my post. I guess it's too much to ask for you to read the post.

Anyway, I found out a work-around. Not exactly a solution but it'll do for now.

I had post-processing disabled to eliminate the blur and ridiculous bloom, but once I put it back on then the jaggies magically disappeared. I have it on low (and somehow the bloom is still outrageous) but at least the jaggies are gone.

  9. I've tried forcing AA (all the way up to SLI 32xQ) through the Nvidia control panel and it doesn't change a thing. I've tried both options -- override the application setting and enhance the application setting -- and nothing changes. It only will change when I adjust the in-game settings, and of course I posted a screen shot of how well that works out.

I don't know how to get this game to not be jagged.

  10. I've tried all AA settings, and even on the highest (8) I still get a TON of jaggies. It's honestly not even worth the performance hit I take by enabling it:

    arma2demo20090626224310.th.jpg

I notice it a lot on the shadows, which maybe AA doesn't touch. If that's the case then that's fine. However, it's also terrible on objects and models too. Does everyone else notice this too?

Also, I noticed when I turn my visibility up to 10000 it doesn't let me choose higher terrain detail. Is this also a normal limitation?
