ArmA2 gives me seizures :(
Herbal Influence replied to Joseph Troska's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Mmm ... should be a bad solution. But ok, if it helps ... Everywhere it is said that TFTs should not be run below their native resolution which should be 1680 x 1050 with a 22''. Hope you are well off, Troska! That's most important. -
ARMA 2 Adult content
Herbal Influence replied to ARGold's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Politicians are not only the ones lowest in a scale of admiration and respect - a poll showed that recently for Germany. :butbut: But it seems that they are for good reason: If "adult content" is shown in a military sim you can be sure that they will turn that onto Bohemia Interactive and sure will try to get some dumb voters for that. They will publish (that's what they can and too often it seems the only thing they can) in the news: We want perverse war-crime-adult-scene-games forbidden! Online and at home! There is a government initiative on wrongful internetcontent in Germany going on. And you can even be sure that some of them would believe what they were publishing then for the internet still seems something dubious to them which they really cannot understand. So, my vote: No. Don't do it. You sure would most probably harm the whole community - which is - my personal experience - one of an idealistic special kind. Like so many in the Web 2.0 - culture. -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
Herbal Influence replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Guys - I would really recommend for a more effective discussion to open cpu-specified threads. At last for those who plan to stick to their cpus. The "Will my PC run this" thread - http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=72181 getting more and more unreadable. What does a thread help with more than 2.600 posts if you have read through 79 % of discussions that don't meet your specs? And pls post your specs into the signature. We all learn from it and questions like ... and what is your graphic card? And five posts later ... "and your RAM?" ... six posts later "and your Motherboard?" are annoying and can so easy be avoided. For AMD 3800 X2 and 6000 X2 you find it here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=77206 Thanx! -

AMD 3800 and 6000 X2 CPU
Herbal Influence replied to Herbal Influence's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thanx for your posts! I think thereby we AMD 6000 users can help ourselves much more specific if troubles arise this way. And, by the way, I don't mind a cpu war. I am really annoyed by the behaviour of Intel and find the recent EU-punishment of a 1.000.000.000,00 Euro is just to little for they earned much more with their illegal practises all the years - knowing that the EU commission and some other countries outside the EU consider their practises illegal. All that lead to the fact you can read often in this forum that people - not for no reason - consider Intel cpus expensive. While I bought the AMD cpu for I was informed that they just did consume only a 60 % of the energy as a comparable Intel at the end of 2006. That might not more be true to nowadays up to date cpus, but I am really annoyed that they kicked AMD out the market with illegal delivery contracts. As an Intel user I would feel betrayed. -
Great guys! More of that! I remember that when we started with OF in an internet cafe that closed at midnight. We used to go to a pub and drink a beer and told us all the nice situations we were in during combat. I can still laugh at the pictures given. And with AA2 it will still be more exciting for the AIs seem to be much more intelligent and flexible. Can't wait for your reports!

3rd person versus Egoshootermode
Herbal Influence replied to Herbal Influence's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Just to make it complete: The stance-conscience-problem seems to be one more arguement for 3rd view. You find it here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=80669 Don't tell me that the stance indicator is something you have in real life! ;-)) -
Today I have seen: An AI crawling slowly on top of the roof of a hangar to get hiddeously to the flag and kill my bots around. Dunno how he got up there. Maybe using a ladder?! At first I couldn't believe my eyes - never seen that in OF. Maybe it was a ... collision bug who turned out to be a feature ... for the enemy side. ;-)) When it was a bug it proves that bugs can make the game more real! ;-))

Go near barracks - there you get the option "Buy equipment".

Very BASIC Question: What language is "script''?

thanx, Big Dawg ! I would like to hear even more on this topic. ;-) -
Why are we asked to assume roles in MP?
Herbal Influence replied to dpolwarth's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
No, you cannot make slot by yourself while just entering a MP- game. It's a question of mission design to design slots. But you can easily open a mission of your own to have all the possibilities - on your own PC or on a public server. If you don't lock the PC or the server there will soon be other gamers showing up to game with you. They have to take the slots the mission you chose offers. It's ok to make yourself "admin" when you are the first person to get on a public server. type: #vote admin YOURNAME Than type: #missions to see all the missions the server (or your PC) offers. There are much more commands that can be helpful but check the Multiplayer stickies for that. -

Herbal Influence replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
If you wanna get away quite cheap an' basic? I am fascinated by my low end system which does the graphics really good! Graphic card did cost 99 Euro, cpu 60 Euro - prices will haved dropped since the two weeks I bought it. Only thing I would think about then is .... to have a cpu socket like AM2+ or newer to be completely open for the future. -

Herbal Influence replied to frosties's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
It's because you didn't switch off the default mode: "in formation" on the right side. They try to be in the "default formation" even if they have to swim! ;-))) -

Herbal Influence replied to Herbal Influence's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : ADDONS - Configs & Scripting
Wow - thanx for the fast answer! Do you also know the "basis" for the script language? Sure it's not a compiling thing but to be interepreted by ..... "the engine"? What might the language of the engine be? Just curious and fascinated --.. since 2001. ;-) -
ARMA 2 Adult content
Herbal Influence replied to ARGold's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Strange question. And I did miss the voting possibility "There is so much adult content in it right now, it can't be more." If war isn't an "adult content" and only sex & crime is - how perverse are we? But I know it's a question of language - but also of culture and ethics. We are so used to killing and murder in every kind of media. Even children are allowed to watch it on TV. But two thoughts on it: 1. You may implement it as much as you want. That's the specialty of OF and AA: It's a kind of Web 2.0 - culture: Users create content. But you have to find sexually surpressed (my opinion) or otherwise surpressed gamers that are eager to join those missions. 2. And a thesis: The more a culture surpresses "adult contents" ("sexuality") the more violent it is in real life. -

Nah - as explained above it's not real. I was happy to learn from whisper (above) that you can change that in options. -
Latest ArmA2 & ArmA2:OA Press Coverage | NO discussion here!
Herbal Influence replied to EricM's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Wow - finally a great and true review ! I days and weeks of gaming I did not find bugs that could hinder me from enjoying this great game. Whereas I don't have the attitude of a pure "consumer" who asks that everything is perfect - neither in real life than in the immense virtual world AA2 delivers to us. Even real life has it's bugs and lags sometimes. ;-) -
Yeah, anfiach, thank you for your comment. It also explains a lot. I gave two examples where a victim didn't suffer like hell and endlessly just to show that these are so strange exceptions to reality that they are close to being unbelievable. Reality delivers exceptions, is my point, but endless suffering while dying is normal, not an exception.

Americas Army was sponsored with about a 50 Mio. Dollars by the US government to fascinate young people for war. Films like Top Gun are sponsored by the US government to have the same effect. Blue skies, good looking heroes and hot women. Men with "character" - heroes. Women with boobs. "Sharp", expensive weapons. But one thing is never shown in all it's reality: The dying of men, of a victim. It's not shown in BI games too. The reason is: Nobody really wants to see that. Nobody who does not suffer from a mental disease would pay for that. The truth is: They rarely die immediately after one shot. They only begin to die. They cry. You can even watch people trying to put back their own brain mass in their demolished skull or their inner organs back into their corps with their hands and .... crawlingly try to hide somewhere. You can find books about this. Not in the public library. But in books about war medicine and catastrophic medicine. The whole power of the corps is put into action to survive - anyhow, anyway. And dying after being shot at takes it time. It's so cruel to watch. I know one person personally who got a long knife all through his lower body - he showed up from hospital with just a two small band-aids the other day. Nothing had been hurt but his skin- and some skins inside his body. The knife went through his whole body. One band-aid on his back, one on his sixpacks. I know one person personally who survived a bomb attack on a warship: His comrade lost the whole lower part of his corps lying a two metres away from him. That dying comrade grinned at him, while he was dying. He than had to clean the ship. He tossed the inner organs with his boots from the rail into the sea. @Lauxman: There is indeed only little hope for you. ;-) Though I don't want to believe that Obama will betray the world - like Bush did - e.g. about weapons of mass destruction in the Irak. But what a small hope since the saying goes: Truth is the first victim of war.

bad graphics performance - BiS confirm?
Herbal Influence replied to 7SD-Toker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yeah - thanx for that learned link! But it ends with "So what is "Enough fps"? I don't know, because nobody went there so far." And he doesn't mean with that "so far" a higher fps than that being expierenced by now - though it sonds like that. And I think the same author states in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_rate that i.e. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas runs at 25 frame/s and that this limit can only be removed at the cost of graphical and gameplay stability. And that "A culture of competition has arisen among game enthusiasts with regards to frame rates, with players striving to obtain the highest frame/s count possible." So I have to say, in my very personal opinion, I am absolutely and completely happy with 30 fps. I can even enjoy games with about 23 fps (that what I get with highest settings in AA2). I don't think I have bad eyes ... no glasses yet. ;-) -
Very important issues
Herbal Influence replied to harveysimpson's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Fully ACK - had same problem with a bunch of rabbits running after a load of hens. How I overcame it: Shoot the alpha hen and it all calms down. Should work with cows too. Possible reason: BI forgot to implement the "taking over command" to animals :butbut: -
AMD 3800 and 6000 X2 CPU
Herbal Influence replied to Herbal Influence's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
mrcash - thanx for the post! I think it shows that the problems other gamers have are not combined with the NVIDIA GTX - cards though there are many problem-posters using them. But mostly in combination with Intel Processors. Seems to me that BI developers run your/my system specs ! ;-)) ps. (offtopic) I would really be interested whether it's Intel. Because then all guys that were mislead by Intels illegal distribution contracts to buy only Intel have not had only the higher prices but also a bad solution. For remembrance: Intel had to pay about a 1.000.000,00 Euros (1.44 bio. $) for illegal distribution practises in the EU which harmed customers choice. -
Yeah - sure there are bugs. But - until now - I have done hours of great gameplay with it. So - to me "0.9" - is absolutely rectified. This "map-bug" occured to me only about 2 % of all attempts to join. But maybe your config does make it happen more often, dunno.:( And please: Don't fall in this consumerthinking: If it's not perfect, I cry. (I don't mean you, McArcher, personally, it's a general criticism.) You did never pay anything for crcti, don't forget. It's all done by people out of pure love to OF, AA1 and AA2 - they created an immense amount of lines of script, did the weekend long testing etc. And this over years, in their sparetime. And if all the private developers get is bashing about remaining errors, they will die out, like the commanders in crcti games.:o Nevertheless you are absolutely right to post open problems of version 0.9. Try to fix the bugs yourself - it's not impossible, indeed it's an overwhelming experience to create things in BIs games yourself. And I think your help is needed for Squeeze who did all the work said earlier in this thread he had stopped working on it.

Oh ... ok ... but don't forget it's not an official mission .... it's all done by the community. And there's where you find help too. Just ask. Yeah - and sure it's overwhelming. It is AA2 at it's best! :)
