As I already stated, I am not at all surprised by the probably correct analysis by walker done on the basis of facts delivered to the public. Sure we don't know all - but by all you can read they failed in side aspects of it all. How can anyone be surprised by the dumbness of decisionmakers since the start of the financial crisis? There have been books predicting the crisis to come. Well educated bankers and politicians bought "financial products" a simple man never would have bought. The only explanation is: People are definitively less intelligent than we thought them to be. In military operations it costs a thousands lifes, in secretservice operatons it costs a few mens life and in financial operations it costs billions of dollars (x 1,37 = Euros), millions of jobs, hundredthousands of lost homes. We gotta wake up and think and decide ourselves.

I didn't say that. But he is a symbol figure for Open Source Software and as there was no other connotation .... My post was about the intense effect of "marketing" including tactical distribution practises of Intel ( + Microsoft) which have been dumped and called illegal and consumer harming by the EU. So, if people buy Intel or behave like fanboys of Intel I want them to realize that they are sponsoring a company which used illegal and consumer harming practises. That's all. Consumers have no other means than simply telling the true story. If needed, again and again. There are well educated marketing specialists working around the clock to make people forget about this. So consumers, like me, will not succeed in the end. Because they forget and want to believe in the good things of what they buy or bought. And the professional marketing of Intel knows this. Tomorrow Intel sponsors Open Source and invests in Malaria-Fighting to wash away their sins ... :p If BIS or, take Open Source, would invest so much into marketing like Intel (and Microsoft and Apple does), BIS and Linux would be world leaders in the market within year. Because they deliver both: Good software and freedom. But both can't and won't because the lack of money.

Whenever you behave like a fan of Intel bear this in mind: http://europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do?reference=IP/09/745&format=HTML&aged=0&language=EN&guiLanguage=en My personal experience of this was: In late 2006 I went to the big shops in my big hometown to buy a new PC. I was informed that AMD cpus do consume much less power while having quite the same and even better performance. You can still find a learned article on that on Tom's Hardware pages. After I saw only a vast number of "Intel inside" PCs everywhere I asked whether they don't sell AMDs. "No, we don't." I had to go to some hideous place to get an AMD PC nevertheless, the "Broadway" was plastered with Intel CPUs. Many people didn't and don't even know that you can buy something different. It was like asking for a PC without Microsoft on it. Try to find a notebook today without Microsoft! - I know of enterprises, bureaus of free lancers (lawyers, tax accountants) whole cities governments with more than 30.000 PCs like Munich, who eagerly try not to use Microsoft. And it seems to me that Intel tries hard, even, following the EU Commissions decision, with illegal contracts, to get a monopolist like Microsoft.

Does anyone still play ArmA Online?

Well, it's a strange question for a guru ... :o Why don't ya click here. -
Thanx! For the info on the number of crewmen too. But I did try to buy it completely empty - and didn't get it. I even tried both ways: 1. buy empty and afterwards (second try) 2. buy manned and switched all crew men off Result: "Group full!" But it was fun nevertheless 99 % of the time. :)

RFIDs are a serious thread to privacy, no question. It's broadly discussed since long. I do therefore understand and appreciate Stallman made this humoristic public hint to this serious thread. If you like to make fun of Free Software which means making fun of people who work for an idea of freedom, you sure have your reasons. You didn't deliver them. But I am interested - but it would be OffTopic here.

Will you buy Arma 3 if they will ever release one?
Herbal Influence replied to goldkid80's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Sure! Did so since 2001. And I will buy six copies of Arrowhead soon! See my signature! And watch Tophes great song! There is nothing that even comes close to BI games - since 2001. Runs fine even on my 599 Euro-rig (bought 2006; price of 2006) which I only had to update - 60 Euro for new cpu, 100 Euro for new graphic card to enjoy the highest graphic settings. (This thread should be shoved somewhere else.) -
Yeah, but Intel tried heavily to ERASE competition and got fined for it. Maybe they just had Microsoft as an idol for such behaviour.:o New marketing trick from Intel, announced in Germany today (heise.de) is: Sponsor some OpenSource projects: The community of computer specialists are typically Linux fans. They decide in every company which cpus to buy. That's my opinion after Intels years of close cooperation with Microsoft which has to invest in Malaria-Fighting for regaining good reputation (because OpenSource sponsoring wouldn't pay out for them :p ). This thread started with: If you are an informed, democratic, free thinking customer: Think twice before buying or promoting Intel who tried to erase sober competition.

I did another 120 minutes on Everon and succeeded ... ;-) One bug I had: Couldn't buy unmanned Abrams for me. "Group full", it repeatedly said. :-(

Thanx for the sources and your analysis and commenting, Walker. Why do you think that? Do you think it's really a job for people with brain, heart or nerves? What do you think - how much is it - to buy a bunch of contract killers? What "education" do you expect? What do you think therefore is their price/value? Are killers intelligent? Is James Bond a real person? Is this "James Bond" really smart when you look at him closely? They are emotionally, legally, morally and intellectually broken persons - with no future and no past, no family bindings, no emotional bindings at all. Someone who loves does no contract killing. (I exclude those persons who are personally involved themselves in a fight with Hamas, e.g. have lost beloved persons through Hamas or Kassam-rockets etc. - those do not fall in the category "contract killer".) "Leon - the professional" is Hollywood, a fairy tale. The real killer, the real Leon is emotionally that crippled - you wouldn't "detect" any heroism in whatsoever category. You can find them in every town - close to the drugs and prostitutions scene. And the prices are dictated by the street ... it's not much. People with brain never make their hands dirty. They leave it to underdogs. Those whose parents didn't have the time or too much alcohol to care for them. The richer get rich, the poorer get poor - not only financially, but also emotionally - when misused by the "clever" sociopaths whom we did give a lot room and might since a million years. Just my two cents. I know it may sound provocative - especially in a milsim-forum. Many were raised with the Hollywood propaganda on heroism and the big lie of George W. Bush (former alcoholic and afterwards drunken by religion), Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo already damaged their ethics on "heroes" too much. But I can't stand that Hollywood and "Top Gun" (sponsored by US military by the way) infiltrate their "values" on society and make smeary contract killers to heros. So, no, I am not at all astonished for that what - as Walker showed it - was an intellectually badly organized murder. There is no brain in contract killers in reality. You can be happy that they have not been that dumb as to kill you - by accident. Same for me. :D That's the only positive message. :(

I indeed enjoyed it yesterday evening - it's fascinating! Are there any missions yet? @Daniel: Thanx for the vocabulary: bow waves! They are already there - at the motorboats ... perhaps only "add bow waves to sub" in script ? :D -
I just finished on Everon - I really got the old OFP-Feeling again that I missed since release of Arma2 - cool ! :)

Cool ... will this be a crcti comparable to the fine OFP ones ??!

Why is this game not more popular?
Herbal Influence replied to LockDOwn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
If BI directs to the addons/mods like you said above - they will be held responsible even more for their quality and will get bashed if they do work like they quite all are: not-yet-perfect. But especially when they include malware of any kind. I don't think it's "elitistic" if you simply do a lot more vanilla publicly. And chat with the people coming online, help them - whereas I mean chatting by textmode - at last that's what I prefer much more. And the least should be to say "Hello!" if you enter a server. It's much more fun to kill people you socialized with a bit ... ;) -
Steam, xfire ...

Thank you, Bohemia! For the freedom as shown in my signature but also for not being one of these bastards: The highest Civil Court in Germany (BGH - "Bundesgerichtshof") lately published a sentence, like this: "It's legally possible for a game publisher only let you use your game when using a certain login and password. Even though it is no more possible for a buyer of that game to sell this anymore as a consequence." A German Consumer union requested US game publishers to stop this practise and asked the courts for help - help was denied. Freedom denied. -
Arma2 beta builds 1.05.6xxxx

Dunno what RPM is ... :o But it reminded me of my need to see somewhere when flying an air vehicle at what intensity the throttle is put. Just listening doesn't do it for me. As a practical result of that missing feature - I do switch engine simply off - shortly before landing .... -
Why is this game not more popular?
Herbal Influence replied to LockDOwn's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Why would you? There are - as I pointed out in this thread about a three times - more than 690 servers continiously online. Most of them "waiting" i.e. empty and free for use. ---------- Post added at 10:46 ---------- Previous post was at 10:29 ---------- Sorry - but what? Community does continously create mods and addons for each and everything - many that can be discussed about because simply making the game more arcadish i.e. reducing reality - and then community wines about BI not making it more easy to join a server with xyz - addons and xyz-mods with an xyz-mission? What about coming back to simple fighting and combat on vanilla servers for a while? That might attract people. Who can really say he learned all and everything within the vanilla version? Sure, mods/addons etc. are a fine thing, but it is simply not possible to have both without big security risks WHO are in first row blaming BI then - for having downloaded an addon appearing then as a trojan/virus etc. thought it was signed with a bi-key? - for having problems with the automatic-addon-download-software? - for having to pay a monthly fee for having their central community chat constantly online? Sure that are those who have a BIG tendency to request for more, more, more - without ever having payed for more than the vanilla version. Fact is Arma2 was forked so fast into certain "religions" as ACE2 and vanilla gamers like never before (OFP, Armed Assault). And there are other forks too. Combined with the really ambitious updating thingie with six-updater of ACE2 the normal beginner finds only half of the servers playable. And last not least: I would enjoy Arma2 with only being a few gamers online, because tactical gaming require only a few. More than a few and tactical gaming is quite a rare thingie. If I sound provocative, it's only to revive the discussion and not meant personally. I love the discussion. :) -

Game CPU-Optimization - no troubleshooting !
Herbal Influence posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Hi cogamers, there is a rumour around that Arma2 can be greatly optimized concerning cpu usage. And this THESIS I want to discuss about. Some early points to begin with: - some players (Intel as AMD users) claim low cpu usage - and little cpu-channel usage - "doesn't seem to use the pagefile...I've watched HDD access and well....Theres nothing being written to the pagefile at all.", says Masterfragg My personal impression is that Arma2 simply needs a very good cpu and this NOT FOR NO REASON but for gameplay, graphics, AI intelligence. So that's my thesis too. My cpu does a 55 up to 90 %, mostly over 75 % usage which I find optimal - but I am no expert. No troubleshooting discussion please! No graphic tuning discussion - there are other threads! Thanx, Herbal -

I just did a crcti 0.9 by opening one of the 700 waiting servers and after 15 min someone else joined me spontaneous (non of my clan) on the opposite side. (By the by: anyone knows a crcti more elaborated in the direction of our wonderful bwmod crcti from ofp? Didn't find it yet :( ) Toooo bad he left, when I found his base ... :o So, go on open servers and play so that interested gamers will find everything they can imagine ... :) Oh ... I forgot the one who tried to join me with ACE-mod on ... he just couldn't join. Vanilla is more friendly to absolute beginners ... ;-) All what is missing online is the experienced cogamers who spend millions of hours doing islands and addons etc. etc. I think that would deliver another 2000 gamers each night. -
I appreciate very much a new mfcti/crcti - loved it in OFP, didn't do anything else. By building barracks I died. Maybe smashed with stones? ;-) Then I couldn't get rid of the building circle (just optics) but also didn't get the option to build again ...
