  1. I play coop from time to time but I'm screaming out for more PVP servers.

If I wanted to play against AI I would in single player. What I want is to play vs human competition with human teamwork.

Fully agree with OP that 90% of the servers out there seem to be Coop

  2. Is it similar to OFP or is it like in ArmA with excessive smoothing? This smoothing causes a horrible mouse lag unless you're playing at 100+ frames per second, which is impossible in ArmA.. except maybe in the desert.

In ArmA II there should be an option for smoothing.

I noticed it too. At first I thought I had a hair or something in the laser. Seems to be intermittent with me on only ever really get it at menu screens

  3. I only play multiplayer so I can't say how it effected SP. However I can honestly say I'm not sure what the patch did. I've not seen any noticeable performance or polish.

Focus next patch more on how the game runs (gfx,FPS) and worry more about the AI later. In my book you could have made some of the worlds greatest changes but if the game is laggy and graphically glitchy I won't know.

  4. Even reducing details all to medium/low did not resolve it. Only when playing night levels do I not get this tear? I know its only one small white spec on the img of the 1 frame I uploaded but at 30+fps it looks like it's snowing.

Ran a drive cleaner which found nothing but an old reg entry for my last mouse.

If no other games are effected it has to be Arma2 side. With all the posts about nvidias top card the good news is at least I'm not alone with on the buggy game fix :) Lets hope BIS or community come up with something.

First dip into the Arma series but man the bugs and tech faults are annoying. BIS need to rethink a few priorites.

EDIT: Found this post that reports similar issues to mine. Deffo looks like a game/engine fault

  5. when u guys say that an AR is zeroed at 300m does that mean the rifle actually shoots slightly UPWARD so at 300m it will heat dead center?

(i guess IRL. not necessary in the game)

It will shoot dead centre upto 300. After that the bullet will lose speed and start to drop.

Fire up the editor. Pick a sniper (m107 is the daddy of them all) line bad guys up. Click middle mouse when you have your binos or scope over the target and you get a distance. PLay around and get good at them.

Heres a test. Aim for a head shot at and enemy at 700m full zoom and it will fall short due to bullet drop. At that range you need to rain the bullet down onto the target. Go full zoom at 300m and aim head and the shot will go high because the zoom changes the zero point. No zoom at 300m and head shot every time. Thats just on the flat, different elevations changes things too.

For assault rifles forget about bullet drop unless your aiming up/down elevation. At medium to long ranges a General rule of thumb is to aim short of the target when shooting from raised elevation and aim above when shooting up elevation.

  6. (1) fragmentation due to patching => defrag (with good tools) cures the trouble

    (2) Trying to play savegames saved before patching

    (3) ArmA2.cfg not updated to patch level : delete the old cfg file, letting ArmA create a new one solves the trouble.

    1) Stock answer is to blame fragmentation etc... My baby is clean

    2) Haven't touched single player. Don't intend to.

    3) Deleted it did nothing.

---------- Post added at 12:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:38 AM ----------

    My rig is

    HP 2475

dual core e6700 clocked to 3.4

    4gb ram

    vista x64

4890 with Latest catalyst drives as of last 24hrs.

I only seem to get the blobs in daylight. I was in settings when it was doing a ship fly by in the dark and nothing. I daylight I managed to capture one with a screen shot.

These suckers are hard to screen grab but very noticeable and in more number during gameplay. Sort of a flickering effect from different locations. They appear from the start which rules out heat issues.

    http://s208.photobucket.com/albums/bb28/gaareth_uk/?action=view&current=arma22009-06-2200-33-13-40.jpg

The blob is middle right of the screen below the white dome.

Hope I don't have to wait to the next patch, frame rate is bad enough with gfx errors.

  7. Whistfully thinking I would get better FPS if I upgraded my 8800GTS to a spanking new 4890, I did so. Not only do I NOT get any noticeable FPS boost but now I get loads of flickery white blobs on the screen when moving about. Much better card = no improvement. WTF???

Has anyone else experienced this with their ATI. Know of any tweaks or fixes I could employe with the 4890??

BI - Can you aim the next patch at optimization and leave the bugs for when the game will run decently?

  8. Can't get Coop to follow any orders. Anyone esle having problems??

When I select move there from order menu (using both space and F2) I yell out "Halt". Tried selecting everything no joy. By fluke he moved when I played around with formations.

Then I told him to get in the HMV (I yelled out those orders this time) and he said negative. Anyone please help??

Spent over an hour and I just ended up shooting him.

  9. all of my specs are in between the minimum and recommended except for my graphics card so would a Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 512MB DDR3 256-bit AGP card run this game with medium settings and no shadows?

I'm running on medium with better specs. a) don't look as good as it can be but decent (who wants decent though??), they need to do some serious optimization b) the FPS isn't great, which again will be resolved by optimization.

You might technically be able to run medium settings (not sure you will) but it will be unplayable in terms of frames/sec imo (with this patch of course). Wow I've used brackets in this post (alot) more than wanted to.

  10. Going on my current specs..

    CPU: Core 2 Duo E6750

    Ram: 4GB Dominator DDR2

    GPU: 8800GTS 640MB

Would upgrading my graphics card make the game run better? Or is it cpu intensive?

I was looking at this card.

got simliar kit myself only I clocked GPU and CPU 3.4 . I'm certain ram will be fine but wondering if I should upgrade CPU or GPU. Could even SLI another 8800 GTS if it would be worth it

  11. Brand new to the Arma series and had a very short stint at OFP when I got into pc gaming. Any of you guys have any tips on kit load outs. I'm thinking every good squad needs a heavy gunner so I might opt for a PKM. Failing that a medic role with something quick and accurate to fire like an M4.

Does anyone have any quick weapon stats to hand??

  12. The AI love roads. If the mines are anything like the ones in ArmA1 then the wheel/track has to drive over and put pressure on the mine's piston detonator. If the tank would drive directly over the mine (center to center) then it won't go off.

My basic mine laying pattern would be like this:

               X
                     X
    0 0 X
    =>>==========ROAD==========X=================>>=====
          0 X 0
                      X
               X

    X - Mine

    0 - Satchel

The idea is that the "V" shape captures the column of vehicles after the first explosion. Their first idea will be to leave the roadway to either turn around or bypass and the V means that often they will drive evasively directly into more mines that are sooner than if they were a straight line across the road.

You don't want more than 2 mines directly on the road since that is enough to make a blockade out of the first vehicle. You also want to keep them apart enough that even a fast moving vehicle won't detonate more than the number necessary to immobilize it.

The staggered column of satchels can inflict heavy damage to a column if it halts or dismounts. The satchel forward of the main road mines are to catch a lead vehicle if it somehow doesn't set off the mine (too light, bad placement). These would be replaced with claymores if they are available. They are kept off the road to avoid being spotted.

:bounce3: Honestly mate thats a brilliant. I was wondering how my first dip into the milsim world would go from my shooter background. But when you have players that put that type of thought and intelligence in something as little as road mines you can't go wrong.

MOD we need a spanky new tactics forum.

Game has been shipped. Roll on tomorrow morning!!
