public pvp...oh my. Both teams would consist of lone wolfs with the biggest sniper rifle with a tws scope and a javelin. Arma weapons aren't balanced, nor should they be. To win you need teamwork, something that is incredibly difficult to encourage in public play.

It's called polish. There are a lot of things that don't seem important, but they do add up.

Reflex sights working properly, instead of being a painted texture. Faction / class abilities. A highly trained soldier has more control over their weapon, aims faster and moves faster with it out compared to an insurgent. Someone with bodyarmor moves more clumsily / slower. These would be subtle and not "+5 attack" Weapons handle differently. An smg should feel totally different than a machine gun. New UI for almost everything ingame. Commanding, actions, inventory. Especially multiplayer. Clearer video options. Perhaps ability to turn on/off certain post processing. More advanced particle effects. Smoke that feels like smoke.

Math is going to be almost the exact same regardless of hardware. Discussing just how much is about as anal as discussing how infinite procedural terrain is not infinite since it's on a computer. All the server needs to care about is the location of the torso, or major limbs. So the server knows you can properly pull a body around. The hands, fingers? Has no impact, so server would leave that position (loading them up, for example) up to the player. Secondly, a ragdoll doesn't have to be a full on limp body. You can blend animations with a ragdoll - a soldier playing a wounded animation at an angle (staircase or hill) for example. The guys at WolfFire games have amazing videos on it. http://www.youtube.com/user/WolfireGames An example (1:50~)

I pray we won't have 11 year old wise cracking helicopter pilots this time around..

Steel (ahem..take inspiration) from the popular mods!

Only if they iron out the kinks in those mods! -
Take time with your posts, you don't have to rush. Light going through objects - unfortunately the only way to do this to have shadows. Which deferred rendering won't speed up a whole lot. Deferred also has a high overhead cost - that is, a few pixel lights will render much faster than a few lights in deferred. But a few hundred lights in deferred will render many, many times faster than hundreds of pixel lights. If we have deferred - expect more fires. Flashlights. Lit buildings. Particles emitting sources of light. ectect. If they have it, they better damn well use it. SSAO isn't based on scene complexity, but screen size. So the more pixels, the longer it'll take. But enabling it tackles us with more fps loss than it should.. Lastly, upgrading from dx10 or dx11 isn't going to instantly make the game look better. There is no "make game pretty" toggle option for developers.

You can also blend animations with rag dolls - nothings stopping you from programming that. WolfFire Games has some excellent examples in their videos of this. Identifying if you shot someone or if someone went to lay on the ground will be much harder now. There won't be a dramatic spin around like in arma2.

Customizable Soldier Load ( seriously?? )
Windexglow replied to sagitarius_2k's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Choose your uniform - You'll probably have a small list of uniforms to choose from, instead of picking between a yellow bandana or a yellow with black stripes. Change your loadout, get encumbered - This is very interesting, as weight ("unforgiving terrain") may play a bigger part. And if weight plays a bigger part, so may weather. -
Love the idea, but cant get to grips with the team AI in the demo
Windexglow replied to KR303's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Even still though, don't expect a whole lot different. Managing the ai to do basic tasks is a game in of itself. -
Player moves like a drunken sailor.

Military uses it == Ultimate perfection -
Arma2 MP has led me to some of the best, and worst online experiences I've had. In the end I just don't have the time to find a good dedicated community which works well.

Oh god I was so young go away! (terrible UVs and excessive polycounts still make it hard for me to play some games, but looking back I shoudln't have made this thead.) Quit replyin, let it die.

I didn't know fade decreased the accuracy of spelling!

Have you tried paying $40 to BI yet for their game? May help. God I love fade As for targets - part of it is the lack of heavy cover & 3 postures. Many rocks are too high for prone and too low for crouch.

Russia, return or someone new?
Windexglow replied to stupidwhitekid75's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
It means friendly forces. And not a whole lot of armies fight for the sake of being evil. Maybe Cobra's army do.. -
Russia, return or someone new?
Windexglow replied to stupidwhitekid75's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I wouldn't mind a go-back to the 90s, or an alternate universe where Russia went into a constant civil war after the soviet breakup for many years. War on the Korea peninsula. War between 2 bluefor allies. ectect Something big and dangerous, not pitiful third world countries. Oh no, a scud missile might launch. I don't care about that. I care about holyshit300000strongarmies clashing. -
ArmA II focusing too much on realism?
Windexglow replied to Cookieeater's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Arma / OFP campaigns had the sickening feeling of "Oh crap" to them. OFP was the fact that neither side wanted to declare war so you were on your own, had no idea what was going on, and it could go full scale war at any moment. It was both personnel yet connected to bigger things. Arma1 was a small military without any chance of support when they needed it. If they got rolled there was no safety to retreat to, they were backed against the sea with no escape. Arma 2..I never got far into it. The voice actors ruined it for me, and have never been fond of special-forces missions. EDIT: Vilas, he isn't asking to make the game into CoD. BI could make the game even more realistic by having players wait days before they can go out on a mission but it wouldn't be fun. We could also perform surgery in the field but that isn't fun. Perhaps we could load rounds into a magazine. Realism is fun to a point, that's what he meant. Some things in Arma2 could be simplified - other made more complex ('realism'). -

Driving over a small rock is still catapulting you in the air?
Windexglow replied to bionicman303's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Was in a Russian fighter, shot a missile at humvee from 200 meters. Was killed by the humvee flying into me. Wonky physics eh? (this happened with the release of arma2, haven't done much jetting) -
40% of your posts are you moaning and complaining.

Attacking Helicopters seems to be too weak.
Windexglow replied to ffur2007slx2_5's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I agree, constant and heavy use is not a good explanation as to why so many helicopters go down. It's not like helicopters are complex or anything.
