  1. Ok, someone with a bigger brain might be able to figure this out because I dont understand it... I'm using canyouseeme.org to check if the port is open and this is the result: Router not set up, Windows Firewall on - Connection timed out on port 2302. Its logical, I checked the logs and the router does indeed block the UDP packet. Router port forwarding fixed, Windows Firewall still on - Connection timed out on port 2302. Checked the logs, the packets now go through the router but its still being blocked somehow. Router port forwarding fixed, Windows Firewall inbound/outbound rules set up - Connection timed out on port 2302. Router port forwarding fixed, Windows Firewall turned OFF to test - Connection to port 2302 refused. Note that it doesnt time out now - it plainly refuse it. WTF am I missing??? What could be blocking the connection  Sidenote: Maybe the troubleshooting forum is better but meh I didnt think that far.
  2. Its DSL, it doesnt matter if I run the game or not while checking and I have set up port forwarding as that was the whole point with the original post. Using another checker, it also says the port is closed even when I see its going through the router. If the port was blocked by my ISP, I shouldnt see a blocked connection on my router when I disable the port forward, right?
  3. I dont know about OA, but it most definetly still work in Arma 2 1.10. I was on a server yesterday that enforced kick upon firing at base/placing satchels and it was ALOT less teamkilling overall. Hey it was actually playable!
  4. Dont forget that many servers seem to overestimate their capacity... Lots of AI, lots of players, lagfest. Was real funny today though, an AI SU-25 was doing an overflight, 90 degree turn. It literally took him over 2 minutes to cover like 400 meters, because he was rubberbanding back all the time. Just below him a player Osprey was flying by, perfectly smooth with zero visible interpollation.
  5. Ah... The "Arma 2 Anti-TK" addon. Its main goal is to reduce teamkilling. Nobody knows what this seemingly empty PBO contain, but it mysteriously reduce teamkilling anyway, maybe by some kind of vodoo magic. Oh and there are no free players, but that's probably nothing to do with it.
  6. Not anymore since when? I've seen a few Domination servers that auto-kick for excessive shooting at base. Or is it that only OA can do it and not A2?
  7. Its strange but its never really struck me until going back to it. Arma 2 has SO much more enjoyable and reactive AI (its actually hard!). There's still lag and some warping, but far, far less.
  8. Its what A2 should have had from the start, but I dont think they will put effort into it. Properly scripted missions CAN fix the TK issue - auto-kick anyone firing at the base. But most people have moved to OA, mission updates will probably take a while.
  9. Its not Arrowhead or a dedicated server though, I'm merely trying to host a game with Arma II 1.10, using the multiplayer browser->new->internet. The end result is that anyone trying to connect by IP doesnt see it listed.
  10. Yeah I noticed the same things. Complete chaos. I took me 4 tries just to get out of a base on one occassion, because the helicopters where shot at all the time. This isnt bringing in new players to enjoy the game - its scaring everybody but the griefers away. Hell if I was more inclined to conspiratory thoughts, I think Bohemia released Arma 2 Free to scare all those that only bought Arma 2 into buying Operation Arrowhead instead. I'm onto you! :plain:
  11. Haha that in the video is not even warping, just a little lag. In just about every game I see warping and it doesnt matter if I ping 10 or 100 to the server. Still the same crappy warping. Its not uncommon to see someone run on the spot for only to appear 20m away. AI in Domination easily move at 1s intervals. The funniest kind of warping is of course when you're sitting in a helo... upside down... in the middle of a town. And then you pop into existance a kilometer away.

Why don't people play Coop Missions??

Yeah I know and I dont even understand half of it. I've tried modifying it and its like picking out a needle in a barrel of snakes. A remake is probably a better idea. But as I said, there's little point because everyone is already playing Domination ;)

    ARMA 2, version 1.10 - Patch Released

So, reinstalling Arma II again... Is this the full patch for any version or do I need to install the 1.0->1.09 patch first? One of the links say "1.10 from 1.05", but I'm unable to find a 1.05 download.
  14. I stumbled upon Armaholic and was shocked to find something on page 3 over most hits on scripts. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7074 I had almost forgotten all about it, lol :p It does exactly what the OP wants - "hides" editor placed units on mission start, then "unhide" them upon a trigger and send them on their merry way with the waypoints you set in the editor. That said, if you're more advanced then spawning them from scratch is cleaner, especially if we're talking large amounts.

Why don't people play Coop Missions??

I was on 7th cav last night. They had obvious issues enforcing this rule, lol. But they tried quite hard at least. Lots of chatting :) Unfortunetly it was the usual game when it starts off decent, then it begins to lag, then enemy soldiers have a movement interpollation rate of about 1 second so you cant even hit them while firing a machinegun in their general direction or they take 10 .50 cal sniper rounds to head to react to the fact they died a minute ago. After a while I think the server crashed. When Arma II Free is released I am sure I will once again try to make a simple, fool-proof, trimmed down Domination mode that's Kb of script rather than Mb. Then I will realize that the project will fail and give up with a big sigh, because everyone is already playing Domination :p

What is Arma 2: Firing Range

Judging by the trailer, it is not for "Android". It is for Tegra. There are currently only two Tegra phones AFAIK, the LG Optimus 2X and Motorola Atrix 4G. Why do I say this? Simple: Because Tegra games use Nvidia specific texture compression to prevent their use on Android phones without the Tegra chip. In other words, Tegra games does not conform to OpenGL ES standard specification across the Android platform. Of course, they could include other texture compression formats if we're lucky. But I doubt it. Sidenote: If it is Tegra, Samsung Galaxy S2 does NOT support the game (funny enough, Galaxy S2 is the ONLY recent phone to only support OpenGL ES standard specs, since it has a unique GPU)... Officially anyway. Members of XDA haxxored the 3D layer a while ago and has been running Tegra games ;)

Nobody plays anymore, atleast for MP

However it is ironic that its not the headless chicken that TK most of the time - its the calm, calculating snipers hanging way back that cant identify targets for crap. Its not uncommon - it happens in every bloody town in Domination. I played a few days ago that could qualify as hilarity if it wasnt so sad. We basicly had the zone, maybe a few stray enemies left. Friendlies where in all bunkers and we could even see each other from bunker to bunker, it was a "hello, we're over here, cool to see you guys!" *wave with rifle* situation, if you know what I mean. I think I counted half a dozen TKs within a few minutes and it wasnt just one sniper, it was every damn one we had on the hills firing blindly into the city (and bunkers). "Oops!". "Sorry!". "My bad!". FFS. Of course there is pure accidental friendly fire. Shit happens. Hell it can even be funny at times. But it still doesnt help that there is a HUGE amount of needless TKs simply because Arma II is supposed to be "realistic" with its clean GUI. Except its not realistic at all.
  18. ... but you've already narrowed it down to SLX. Contact its author to fix any potential bugs.

Nobody plays anymore, atleast for MP

Probably not, but being an asshat about TKs isnt exactly the reason so few play MP. In fact, I think I see more TKs in Arma II than I've ever seen in any game, lol. I've been in plenty similar situation. If we're US and an unidentified guy fires an AK74, chances that I kill him skyrocket. Yes, even if its free-for-all weaponry. Most of the time I try to confirm their behaviour and unifom but you know... Some people are similar to AI for some reason and the uniform isnt always so easy to see. Which of course bring up yet another point that modern gamers expect - easy IFF. A2 isnt all bad, but better nametags wouldnt hurt. While realism freaks may go bonkers over it, IMO it is realism by proxy. A soldier knows who's in his squad, how they behave, what gear they carry, etc. So once again, I dont think its the "freedom" that scare people away - its the basic features.

Why don't people play Coop Missions??

Simple: Because many - if not most - of us want an easily recognizable setting with known objectives, repetetive over either minutes or hours with no loss of content/enjoyment for either you or your fellow gamers. Thus, Domination is dominating. You can just hop in and KNOW you have to take the red town. I have nothing against single missions, but its a more serious commitment. You cant just join a specifically designed 12 man mission as that single AT soldier, play for an hour through objectives and much fun and then say "oopsies, time to go to work" and just leave, effectivly ruining the mission for everyone else. Arma II MP doesnt work so well that when one person leaves, another is instantly substituted (I know it can be AI but that's hardly up for the task of MP gaming on a small friendly side, as can be seen by the slaughterhouses Domination turn into, lol). Or on the other end, maybe you have 2 hours to game with but end up in a series of 30 minute missions where 20 minutes is just getting to the objective, so in the end you'd spent most of your time running through a desolate desert or something.

What do you think off the "future" setting

Lol that's not even a mech. Its just some plastic crap with wheels under its sliding "feet". That's like calling the local garbage truck a mech because it has an arm to pick up cans. As I said, until we have a powerplant capable of supporting them, it aint going to happen. In 20 years? Not a chance, especially with this ongoing campaign of "clean" energy that's ineffiecent and costly rather than going advanced fission/fusion power. 60+ years is more like it, if the hippies goes away. So maybe Battlemechs for... uh... ARMA LXXXIV ?

What do you think off the "future" setting

You seem to have alot of real life experience with battlemechs? You know they are large, you know they're cumbersome, you know they are slow and hell, you even got the specs for their operation and maintenance! Otherwise, I dont really see your point. We dont have a powerplant capable of supporting anything near a battlemech yet. When we do they wont be usuless. There are distinct advantages of a bipedal or quadraped design both in terrain and urban warfare. A battlemech would easily be able to go where a tank can never go and imagine a mech leaning around a building. With advanced robotics, a quadraped mech would probably be the most agile and fastest thing on the battlefield - imagine a huge metal cheetah being able to navigate almost any obstacle and change running direction in the blink of an eye. Either way, Arma III will be modern combat, so it wont have mechs. Remote operated drones would be neat though :p

    CTI, squad command, and me

Personally I simply gave up on warfare rather than trying to find a way to "fix" AI control. PvP and Coop (no friendly AI) is just so much more fun in multplayer.
  24. Well why would you ever want one mentor? You got a whole forum section full of scripters! You said it yourself, you learn best from hands on work. Start doing small things and work your way up. If you get stuck, ask in the editing forum.

Nobody plays anymore, atleast for MP

Yeah, thanks for that. Played every BF game since 1942 :p IMO its not really about the shock of so-called "freedom". Its all about how to use it and foremost: how to enjoy it. That's why I brought up the saturation of Domination as an example. Why isnt a decent revive standard fitted yet without any option to disable it? I mean its not the "freedom" of a free-for-all Domination round that's gonna make you smash your head in the when you die for the umptieleventh time 50m from MHQ One by a stray shot through your toe when there's 20 other players around you that cant do anything. So rather than the "freedom" being overwhelming, I'd say that the features are underwhelming. Gamers have advanced to expect a certain level of playability. Compare with good old Operation Flashpoint. Oh how I loved to sit in the Gamespy lobby for 30 minutes and wait to complete the rooster for a one-life mission that was almost sure to fall apart in minutes, lol. That's not a joke (lol in a good way), I thought OFP was pure awesome. I didnt know better back then but I do know that I most certainly would NOT enjoy that today. Its hard to know where to draw the line between mission designers and Bohemia, I am aware of that. There's a pretty decent medic module - except it doesnt work in MP. There's plenty of revive scripts, Domination already has it - except servers run without it.
