  1. I think a lot of ARMA players that started off from the original OFP still have a taste for the great co-op scenarios and situations that OFP made available.

Co-op is a great thing to play with the right people and with well made missions.

OFP took co-op to a new level.

For years before OFP, my friends and I played anything we could get our hands on for LAN based co-op. Half life mods etc.

Then OFP came and it changed everything. Great co-op scenarios became a reality.

Whether you like it or not, ARMA has that co-op blood strongly in its veins :)

Personally i look at ARMA as a co-op based game. But i have played some good MP missions as well. But for me, its all about the co-op :)

I think what puts new people off, is that joining mass public servers is always going to be messy. There is no organisation, TKs and general carnage/confusion.

I guess the moral of the story is, if you want to enjoy ARMA in all its co-op glory, join a good community with their own servers. Make team mates and play together a lot so you form a solid squad or even a platoon!

Only then will you experience the real joys of ARMA :)

  2. Had a superpower running with AI command for a few hours now, just to see what happens.

Not seen any aircraft organised by the AI commanders yet..

I manually bought a couple of choppers and just been controlling the AI pilots and gunners via the map, and they are kicking some serious ass :)

  3. Well both Securom and 505Games have responded to support requests about this, but neither of them have provided any kind of solution.

So purchased a game i can't play as the DVD won't load.

    Totally sucks :(

Please release a no securom exe so those of us with incompatible drives can play the game we paid for...

  4. Hi,

My laptop refuses to read the ARMA2 DVD.

I am assuming it is because of the protection.

The DVD loads fine in my other PC. Just not on this laptop.

The DVD says it is a "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device" in device manager. I cannot find any firmware updates for such a device on Google.

I installed the game from my networked DVD on the other PC, but i can't play it as it won't start without the DVD in the local drive :(

Any ideas how i can fix this?

    Thanks.

  5. 72;1311920']You probably dont go to the mark properly enough. If your in a vehicle make sure to jump out where the mission ending is supposed to be. If its "destroy high value target" make sure to take down the RADAR or just obliterate the whole camp (killing AI soldiers is not enough). But make sure you really get ON the waypoints (markers) and leave vehicle if you think you done a mission but nothing happens when your in one. I tested the SOM for hours and i didnt get failed missions or missions that didnt end.

Even cooler is to add the SOM module plus the ACM module and set the ACM to randomly spawn patrols from all factions. Also add the civilian module and now you have missions coming in the middle of a war! And you will sometimes get help as you set the ACM to spawn all factions - even friendlies. :) You can also trigger a line to have the full SOM artillery support whenever you want by using the radio. There are a lot of possibilities with these things and i cant wait to explore them more.

I'm dribblling at the bit now .. Can't wait for my copy to arrive this weekend !

  6. Interesting topic, i have not seen a list of changes to VOIP in ARMA2, anyone got a link or the info?

The squad i usually roll with uses Team Speak as they have multiple servers, chat rooms etc at any one time and it makes it easy for people to chat out of game, in game and join games being setup etc. I can't see them changing that unless ARMA2 has some serious chat capabilities.

The direct sound option does sound awesome though. Expecially for small scale co-op missions where you want the ultimate realism...

  7. It always needs huge improvement (especially AI), but do you know any game where battles and troop (ai and player) numbers of this scale can run as well as ARMA2 in such a realistic environment?

Maybe if this small dev company had huge budgets, then the AI could be improved.

But do you really want the money people such as EA touching this beautiful game? I think not! You know what would happen. Look at OFP2.

What we can hope for is for the devs to take all the (decent) feedback and work on new uber AI code etc, to make it the true vision that it is so close to.

How long were the firefights people had so far? For me the fights are still rather short and in concept very similar to the way we fought in OFP and ArmA.

Not sure what game you where playing, perhaps your confusing ARMA with CS, but the longest ARMA1 game i played was about 14 hours. I only left due to the serious need of real life food and sleep. Clearly you have not experienced the true ARMA full map, battle experience....
