Would you pay for feature based development? (this poll is not directly linked to BI)

That is my line of thought also. The most important factor is, that Arma 2/OA can be heaven for advanced sims, it is that good...., this would allow a dedicated team to focus on one task, say a heli/tank/aircraft simulation. I think the idea is great, but you'll need to execute it good......and managing such projects is no walk in the park and requires a full time employee. -
Gonna give this a try, thanks!

Better turn that energy towards something positive, mate. Get some constructive dialogue going.....bashing won't help for sure...... -

It was a question based on the little info, which was provided. I would assume that if it is possible to import the models in OA from Arma 2 and their real life counter parts have certain capabilities that they would be represented in OA. What I mean is, it would be odd that one wouldn't be able to see for example the A-10 in FLIR mode in OA, because it would have the FLIR textures....catch my drift.....Based on the fact that it was said that they use a texture base for the FLIR feature, one could assume that they will need to redo all Arma 2 models, which can then lead to the question if FLIR would be available in Arma 2........ Just like to see some responds on this....... -

I was talking about it resources....I meant models and such....it was stated that you can only use them in OA. But my question/assumption is that they need to redo them all if they decide to do it on a texture basis. Not vice versa. That is at least how I understood it. That if you own Arma 2, you can use the models in OA. -

Maybe it is wise for the devs to release some trailer of OA as people now start bitching on youtube, which is sad: That is truely bad for business.....and highly immature...........Alot of people will query Youtube and they will see this as first. PS: In my country we could sue someone for posting that on youtube :), which if I was BIS I would do. -

For me personal OA has much more appeal than Arma 2, and that is simply due to its settings. Do I regret buying Arma 2, hell No.....It is with everything in life, one needs diversity.....and the simple fact that BIS is expanding its engine with something as different to the original only praises them. And what are we all bitching for.......we rather don't have the expansion, because of what, it costs a few $$$? Come on, software companies have a ROI and correlated ETA that need to be matched. It is quite logical that they weren't able to put everything in the game, because the economics wouldn't allow them more time. I think 20 or 30 euro is cheap for what you are getting......That surported by a great community......where the devs actually participate in.....well, what more can you ask? However, I do think you should be able to state things you like to see changed and be bettered and some interaction with developer on these topics, but keep it constructive and flowing, instead of the constant bashing. It must sometimes be a nightmare for the devs to go through these posts and take out some valuable points. As 90% is pure flaming shit. -

Hey mate, Great thing you have going there. Add some blur to the side and it is a much appreciated addon. It provides a better level of of immersion. Question is of course....how is going to make all the different scopes? Still...........love what you did there.........:) -

If the FLIR is texture based and you can use all Arma 2 resources in OA, that would mean they need to redo all Arma 2 resources....not? ---------- Post added at 02:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:09 PM ---------- Isn't that the whole puprose of an expansion? :D Better....? -

I second that, good question. From what I understood is that you can use all Arma 2 resources within the new engine, I would assume it means that you'll have the new features available if they exist in their real life counterparts. -

Just had a look at the vid and I must say: I love the Apache :) The mountains you see in the background look sweet. I read on an Italian site that, which has an interview (contains most of what we already know), it will be awhile before we see it. It is in the very early stages of development. They were quite positive about it. What people tend to forget is that for 20 euro or so you get how many hours of pure pleasure.....? Tons.......so, please stop the whining and see if we can actually get some extra footage or questions answered. It would be nice if Wolle could arrange some footage directly from the dev team highlighting some of the new features.... -

Hi Lads, I just found out that it is not possible to create a hud/gauge which shows the image of the helicopters camera? I'd like to see something similar in Arma 2 as they accomplished in EECH: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoRxDLvclso Between 3.40 - 4 minutes. There you see the hud/gauge with an image of the camera. And you are able to select multiple targets (like in real life). It could also be applicable for other vehicles such as airplanes and tanks, which would make targeting alot more enjoyable when comtrolling a vehicle. I'd like to keep out of the discussion that it would overpower the vehicles. As in real life (we are talking about a sim) the odds for infantary against a machine is slim. I'd like to also keep out of the discussion when it should be added in light of the troubles most people currently have it running decently. This was added later as some people don't seem to understand the scope of the poll. The question is simple, would you like to see it? Yes or No What I'd like BIS to do is add the functionality to render picture in picture in one of its future patches. So BIS, what about it?

Community add-on: Apache AH-64D - Need help
p75 posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Hi All, I'd like to start working with a team of volunteers on a community add-on for the Apache AH-64D. I'd like it to be absolutely as accurate as possible, model, texture and weapon systems. I found a free model, but it has a really high poly count. It was made in 3DS Max 4.0, but loads effortlessly in 2010. We simply need to downsize it. We already have the Apache AH-64A coming from the HWM boys and the MK1 model from RSKL. We only miss the D version. This community addon will fill exactly that gab. Here are some pictures of the model: I need help for: - downsizing the model (current polycount is:169,633, Vertices: 87,359) - creating a full functioning 3D cockpit - making TrackIR slave the gun (scripting) - making an exact copy of the weapon systems (scripting, camera work) - retexturing the beast after downsizing the model (I maybe have a professional doing this....pending) - professional sounds, rotors/gun/rockets and missles - real FLIR (scripting/(texturing)) - if possible, big if, because it is not standard in the engine - rendering to texture for the MFDs (scripting...) - enhanced flight model (scripting) Presented below are some cockpit views from a mod for a 10 year old game (EECH), I'd like to surpass this level of detail, but it gives a good idea what the aim should be: As for the MFDs, a key should bring them up, allowing for manipulating the targets, selecting and prioritizing them.....have a look at the dtv/dvo/flir, weapon statuses......just like in real life. Pressing another key would cycle through the available MFD screens. Below a selection of screen for the AH-64D: Please help, if you have the skills, into getting this bird in the ARMA 2 air so all of us can enjoy flying this crafty machine. Step 1. will be Downsizing the model and getting it into ARMA2 (o2) format. Please send me a PM if you can downscale the polycount and I'll send you the model. -

In relation to this, I hope that the IHADS is slaved/linked to the TrackIR as this would simulate the real life AH-64D very well. To the poster above, yes, that is how it works. Both Pilot and Gunner can use the IHADS for target selecting. -

Hi Wolle, Thank you for answering.:) Could you tell us alittle of how it looks in regards to the new features you saw....? -
Hi Lads, I can't tell you all how impressed I'm with the answers of Wolle's Q&A, it basically answered all my questions except for one....and that is some video material. And we know Wolle has seen some :D Just to be ahead of what is coming, I thought I would start this video thread of Operation Arrowhead. If you are not excited, yet? Well, have a look at what is coming: Quotes: "Is the terrain based on Afghanistan? Or is it more of a desert? Jennik: Kind of, it will include dense urban areas and the countryside too." "Yes, there will be a FLIR system. We have one of the most sophisticated FLIR simulation systems already done for VBS2 and we will bring it in Arrowhead to fans of ARMA2 too." "Will the game have Functional IR lasers (PEQ units) like in vbs2? Or Flashlights? I'm glad to say: Yes, and yes." "What will the really new features be in OA? Jennik: As I meantioned: Completely new story line, new factions, units, vehicles and weapons. New and completely different environment, new simulation features like FLIR, mounted flashlights, HUDs for airplanes and helicopter and even more." "What is the price for the expansion? Jennik: A medium rangeed price, not a full price for regular new game. " Etc, etc............... Pictures at rp-mods.com: Pictures of AO If BIS would be so kind enough to shoot some material, please post it here. We're all hihgly waiting and anticipating it. For all us mortals, please post any vids you'll be able to find the coming days, weeks and months so we can discuss it. Thank you BIS for listening to your community!!! PS: Please bring gun slaved TrackIR for the Apache as in real life :D
