  1. Are you currently Monty? The Army just got the new UH-60M Black Hawks, but I can't find anything on a terrain-hugging system though. Not like it matters I've only heard anything like that from anfiach. There aren't many choppers that do not require constant input from the pilot, and I haven't seen any reports on a system like that on any other chopper.
I didnt say anything about computers mate, you're misquoting (terrain hugging) I mentioned yaw, but that's a physics issue.

  2. Well I've hit man sized targets at 500 yards with open sights prone with an M16A2, but the weapon could be zeroed differently for arma2 since you cant adjust irons. We left our irons at 300 yd mark.

The M68 is for less than 300yds which is supposed to be the 'normal' engagement distances for infantry.

Yes that is the typical max engagement range for infantry combat. The point of zeroing the M68 to 300m is that you don't change your optics in combat. It enables you to engage at long ranges with the benefit of the open sight in close range combat and at ranges less than 25m is is simply too easy to adjust your point of aim a few inches higher and if you are lucky enough to acquire the 3x mag and swing mount it is like having an ACOG and CCO at the same time.

  3. I noticed it while playing the demo. Iron sights and reflex sights should be able to hit fairly accurately out to 300m. IRL they are both sighted in on a 25m range because the ballistic arc of the 5.56mm will take it through the target at the same aim point at both 25m and 300m.

Take into consideration though that I am not yet accustomed to the control interface and weapon control of ArmA so this could also affect the outcome. With other games we have been accustomed to unrealistically steady hands making targeting a point and click excercise. Try adjusting your mouse sensitivity to ensure that it isn't simply a matter of over compensating movement when adjusting aim.

  4. I played the Demo, (deleted now to save HDD space) and the choppers seem to be a lot more controllable as compared to ArmA 1. I don't notice the severe yaw issues v1 had unless you get really loose with the controls.

I hope I can get my system to handle the full version with some tweaking as haven't the funds to replace my Q6600. It ran great for the most part with most everything set to very high and fill rate 100% but I can see it bogging down in online play or scenarios with a large amount of AI.

  5. Also, downloading from steam, you will never have to download the entire thing again (i.e. no bad downloads), it will pause and restart if interrupted and you can check the file integrity of the download by right clicking the game name in your steam browser, going to properties\files\verify integrity. It will fix any errors that may have occurred during download

  6. there is no need to worry about the command line (it's covered by FAQ again :)

when nothing set in launch parameters in the STEAM game profile

    shortcut 1:

    Drive:\Path\Steam.exe -applaunch IDnumber -nosplash -maxmem=2047

    shortcut 2

Drive:\Path\Steam.exe -applaunch IDnumber -nosplash -windowed -maxmem=2047

    shortcut 3

    Drive:\Path\Steam.exe -applaunch IDnumber -nosplash -windowed -maxmem=2047 -mod=@test

one starts game fullscreen second windowed third got passed mod paramater correctly ...

works as intended :) any other concerns ?

Yes, I have this annoying rash, should I see a doctor?

  7. No they are not. They are absolute only if everyone is standing in the same location.

Picture a squad moving in line formation directly North. Imagine a clock face over the top. The point man is on the 12 the tail end is on the 6.

A target appears on the 3.

To the tail end the target is NE to the man in the middle its directly E to the point guy it's SE.

All methods short of a grid co-ordinate are relative to some location.

Do you have a brigade walking in a file?

  8. Lol, i know arma 2 is a very realistic war simulator, but unless you have real life bombing experience, thats a little bit of a bold comment to make.

Go and try and fly an A-10, i bet yoo, (and me for that matter), could not even turn the thing on.

Flying in arma 2 may be easy, For everything else there is a 4000 page manual and 9 years of traing :P

Richie lol you are correct, however in this age of lasers and fly-by-wire, bombs and missiles are not hard, even ground troops who have things like TOWs and Javelins understand this, the hard part is picking out your target, technology does the rest. Naturally flying is more difficult than walking or driving but the rest of the training is about starting up and shutting down your computers and not screwing anything up (of course there's more depth than that but I don't fancy writing a novel). Even ground vehicles now have ridiculous startup procedures.
