  1. Wow, thanks that is very helpful.
  2. Hey guys, I am completely clueless at scripting yet I am attempting to tackle something. I am using someone else's script (publicly released). It works as intended, I place nul = [this] execVm "action.sqf" in my unit's init box and it works fine, I approach the target and I get the command and upon clicking it activates another script. I am trying to figure out how I can get an AI unit to execute the command when the player wants. For reference, I am using Norrin's killer bunny script. Basically is it possible to do this with the AI? You can tell them to get into cars and stuff but that is coded in the game. Can we tell the AI to manipulate objects like a player or execute other commands in that manner?
  3. If an admin could move?
  4. I guess noone knows? I do not plan to use norrin's script in my project but just learning and gives me something to see what is possible.
  5. also Oleg, anyone familiar with graphics can see the visual tricks they pull off in those screen captures.

You can't Play this game Multiplayer.

@Richey79 all of those problems you mentioned generally have to do with the server and the mission they are running. If the server is weak you will have problems, if the mission has a bunch of modified scripts, it will cause issues. There is nothing wrong with ACE, however you are free to like it or not as with any other mod. @all Finding non-modded servers can be a pain depending on your TZ but they are out there and if there are only 3 people on a server, join and there will be 4, etc. Servers only become populated by people joining them. The problem with trying to grow the community is that it is so fragmented it is hard to get new players hooked before they quit in frustration. @OP why would you ignore installation error messages? If your install is screwed how would you expect the game to work properly?

    ArmA 2: Enhanced

So, I don't have TrackIr or a giant monitor, however I am still able to get an even more immersive experience out of the game and you can too. I'm talking about 3D people  For those that can afford it, you should probably invest in the expensive hardware in order to get the best results that you can, but I have a solution for the rest of us. Anaglyph 3D (that's the cheapo red and blue or red and green glasses) Someone has probably done this already but I figured I'd share since I have nothing else to do this morning :p Pretty much all newer Nvidia cards have this built in and I believe ATI may also have this capability now though I am unsure about that. You can also go here http://www.iz3d.com/ and get their free anaglyph drivers. Only the Iz3d drivers are XP compatible though I believe. Once you have the drivers, all you need is a pair of anaglyph glasses. You can find these in comic books or magazines sometimes an there are some DVDs that include a couple of paper ones. Amazon and Ebay can provide you with them at a low cost. Make adjustments while in game to eliminate ghosting and get the clearest image. You will be amazed at what you see. It really adds a new dimension (pardon the pun) to the game. I tried to include some screen shots but the game doesn't have a built in SS capability and as it works like an overlay Fraps and PrtScn won't work. It won't capture on video either :( Try it out, you'll be glad you did.

    Lay down!

You can also make the AI so stupid that it doesn't do anything when you fire near it, especially when you have the shooter set as a friendly faction. Sure the AI can be stupid but it can also be absolutely brilliant.

    Lack of multiplayer teamwork.

Interesting view. I agree that it is difficult to organize teams sometimes but just look at the Domi variants, they have the ability to join groups on the fly and 3rd party voice provides this as well. Teamwork is done for winning, yes, but that is kind of the point when playing pvp, to defeat the opponent. I don't understand you though about not joining a group if it isn't effective. How can it be an effective effort if nobody joins? We are back to a player issue and not the game. Not everyone can be a great leader, but at least some people make an effort to organize. Tactics, everyone knows the plan goes out the window when your boots hit the ground. Everything is situationally dependent, so basic protocols are all that is needed for consistent team play. Adapt and overcome. Instant rewards and CS clones have nothing to do with teamwork.

ARMA 2 PvP. Is it still out there?

I think he meant that not everyone has the time to commit to a squad. It is a commitment. Also a member of a community is expected to be a part of the community, not a tagalong that just shows up and plays when they feel like it. Players already in organized groups aren't the ones finding it difficult to play with others, they are all in private servers. It was mentioned in the MP forums that the plethora of mods available tends to fragment the community as well. This is true.

Not at all out of context, as I said, people can search and read it for themselves, and you get the forum rules in your face when you register. I'm done talking about PR. Care to comment on the closing points of my last statement?

    ACE2 AAS or Cooperative?

Galzohar & Makemebad, you nailed it. Many don't know the updaters exist and then there is the fact that people don't always have space for 50Gb of mods in order to play on all available servers and even then there is no guarantee that everyone wants to run the same version or wants to run 3rd party software. All of these mods and stuff are fantastic but in the long run the community divides itself because of them. I won't be getting OA any time soon after its release, don't have the cash, but hopefully the in-game mod management feature will help a little bit. It is important to clarify though that it is not the modders at fault for the non user friendly way in which mods are handled.

ARMA 2 PvP. Is it still out there?

Anyone is capable of searching and reading it for themselves. Also I tried to move away from the subject but I have a right to defend myself and my opinions. Leave PR alone and talk about something else. I haven't seen any other mod team assume that they could ignore the forum rules or so poorly respond to criticism (even comments that weren't overtly negative). Hell, most of the posts were asking questions about the mod and asking if or why they might do one thing or another. Nevermind that their arrival was heralded by a bunch of new forum members spamming about the mod.... but I digress. The whole point to what I'm getting at is that it will not change the players. This is what people talk about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RioJ0PIOCc8 This is what people see This is what people talk about This is what people see
  19. I think people are getting frustrated because the self updating updater doesn't and the latest version was supposed to be on Armaholic but it isn't because a lot of people waited for the milestone release so that they could play without all of that frustration and they are still frustrated because the servers auto update to the latest working release and so they can't. I just went through that same aggravation. Went to update since I haven't played in a while and updater continually failed. So I come to the forums and read that Armaholic will always have the latest release, ok so I rename my current files so I don't lose my repositories and install what is availabe on Armaholic and still receiving the every 3 seconds wrong version alert. The I come to the forums and find the link to the latest6 updater release and reinstall the updater and when I try to update it doesn't recognize my files (changed the repositories back) and now I'm reinstalling the mod from scratch and the updater is auto launching my game again :/ and I have to mess with the update settings. It can be a painful experience. :( and so worth it

ARMA 2 PvP. Is it still out there?

And your ultra fanboi-ism? What agenda do I have other than enjoying the game I purchased? I made a valid and accurate observation but did not imply that it applies to everyone. I did read that whole thread and crying and then insulting the community because someone pointed out that making a reality mod and adding features that were decidedly unrealistic was contradictory. I'm still waiting to see what they release and hope that it is an enjoyable game mode but don't have any hopes of it reviving pvp as several PR based mission packs and game modes have already been released in the community and were never used. In the end, it will still depend on the players just as it does in the original PR, just as it does here, now. So, we are back to the original question, and the answer is yes but it isn't nearly as abundant as coop.

ARMA 2 PvP. Is it still out there?

OMG yes!!! PR saved pvp simply by announcing they were maybe gonna have a mod someday!! Why didn't I see it? You know, there are lots of people working on projects relevant to pvp (many released even) but none of them have any bearing on whether or not people are playing pvp right now, which is what the thread is about. So the PR mod might be great, or it might be crap but we don't know and it doesn't answer the question about what is happening right now.

    Lack of multiplayer teamwork.

Thanks for that but I still have to disagree as in other games I have witnessed teamplay in pvp that was not egocentric (focused on individual achievement) and the cooperative team structure actually works better than rather loosely affiliated pvp groups. Kills are only important if it achieves the objective and a team working together overcomes the individual every time. Who gets the kills is not important. So a pvp group that uses the same doctrine as what you refer to as the coop formula actually works very well. If an individual completing an assigned goal wins you the match that isn't putting the individual before the team unless they go off on their own, but then they aren't playing as a team are they? Assuming of course they aren't a scout/sniper element that has been assigned to post in a position on their own. So maybe I don't fully understand what you mean but I'm pretty sure that if you wanted to you could include gameplay elements into the missions to reflect what you want. Leave no man behind? Do you mean by corpse recovery or leaving behind a wounded team mate or what exactly? That sounds like putting the individual ahead of the team. Even in real life it goes, we will come get you when we can, but we don't risk the team for the individual. Even then, it would depend on the mission whether it would be detrimental to the outcome or not. What I think a lot of people are missing in the pvp game is that many want to have a coop like experience except they wish to play vs human beings. Naturally there are differences, AI isn't expecting you and it is predictable. Dead AI soldiers cannot talk on teamspeak either. The best pvp I've experienced in ArmA 2 so far was in a Tactical Gamers server. Each side had a commander and then there were subordinate team leaders. There was a central objective and each side had to maneuver their troops. Teams were positioned, contact was made, battle lines shifted, one position or another had to be reinforced or was overrun... It was a most enjoyable time. We didn't try to recover bodies but then, it wasn't in the mission design.

Of a different kind? please elaborate.

    Lack of multiplayer teamwork.

So you are saying that the same thing that is required for teamwork in coop can't provide teamwork in pvp. That was your statement. Are you trying to correct that now? Those elements you mentioned are required for teamwork and game mode has nothing to do with it. These forums are not a democracy but you are entitled to your opinion, just as he is entitled to say he thinks you are bat-shit crazy for making such an unfounded and sweeping statement. Personally I think that you just didn't think that through. Public servers require constant administration to accomplish team work and to keep trolls away whether it is coop or pvp and to get any kind of teamwork you need players willing to work together.
  25. Yes, it is absolutely horrid and I hope that BIS realizes that their once revolutionary engine will soon be outdated and unimpressive with the coming advancements in gaming. They cannot afford to keep ignoring such facets of game creation and expect to keep making money. note: This is not a hate post, I'm just being a pragmatist. Google Infinity-Universe and you'll see what I mean.
