I think the issue is that the game preloads data from the mods you use making it impossible to activate/deactivate once the game is running.

You are quite right, none of those things are necessary in this game, you can just throw out a repair pad or fly in a fuel blivet and infantry generally do their own vehicle maintenance, though they DO use utility trucks a lot. There also aren't field kitchens, laundry facilities or MWR centers. I mean, what kind of sim doesn't provide a makeshift night club for logistics personnel to party down in while combat soldiers are doing patrols and dying?I think the reason most of those things are in game is because they were already made for VBS and BIS thought people might want to have something rather than magic pads. No extra development time needed. I agree with you about the female civilians, that was just another example of poor workmanship on the part of the developers and if it had been done properly there would be a mod and this discussion wouldn't even be taking place. ---------- Post added at 07:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:00 AM ---------- You really have no idea what you are talking about. A site dedicated to female soldiers doesn't prove anything other than someone wants to honor the women that serve in the military. I think it is rather insulting though because the females you usually hear about, their words and deeds are often so ridiculously inflated it is an insult to the heroic women that do silently serve with distinction every day. Funny how the fem lib activists will celebrate the tiniest achievement by a woman and by doing so they show that they had no faith in women's ability to do things in the first place. Militaries use all kinds of vehicles in all kinds of combat environments, stop trying to comment on the military since you are obviously clueless in that regard. Facts trump opinions any day. So, your argument is because the sim falls short of reality we should just invent our own reality? If you want to put me on ignore, that's fine, I don't really care, but don't announce that you can't read my posts. That assumes my feelings will be hurt by your refusing to acknowledge me and projects the childish attitude that you somehow win points for doing so.

Really? A crosshair for a "realistic" sim?
anfiach replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I likwe it being an option but still think it should be changed to better suit its purpose in a more realistic manner, i.e. not useful for long range sighting. I usually play on servers that are in veteran mode anyway. -

If you only fight in the DARK -
That really is a shame. Not all female soldiers are that incompetent and certainly there are plenty of males like that as well. Some will get you killed just to claim some glory for themselves.

Star Wars Stormtrooper

Hahaha, Solo shot first, they changed it in the special edition so children would get the point that he had no choice but to defend himself. Funny that hollywood would even care about a moral issue like that. -

the updater makes a shortcut in your arma2 folder you can move that to desktop to launch ace Great work on the mod guys, I'm still having issues but they all seem to be on my end with keymapping, etc. Slowly getting it worked out and enjoying the new toys. I'm looking forward to the final release (non-beta). -
Female Soldier [Feature request to BIS]
anfiach replied to rene.obermann's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Your rpg statement is false false false (unless you play CL or something). Custom content though is whatever you want it to be. If there are so many women wanting female characters, why don't they make the mod themselves? Not intending to be harsh but every mod in this game is there because someone wanted it and decided to make it rather than hoping someone else would. Perhaps it could be done by making a female model and applying the male animations, wouldn't be perfect but it could work, also they could turn voice pitch up all the way. -
You have a dim understanding of military training and a really poor attitude. If you are old enough to be his grandpa you must be reaching the second childhood stage. ---------- Post added at 08:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:56 AM ---------- Yes it was rather devoid of quality content. I think this bit spoke volumes.

Player should change his position while driving vehicles much slower
anfiach replied to abel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Answer my arguments? You've attacked me. BI makes their decisions the same way that all businesses make their decisions. They also cannot indefinitely rely on bureaucrats spending money on a program that has essentially no training value for the military (yes I am qualified to make that statement), so they are going to go for economically sound ideas. Regardless, my original point was that the 30 people that agree in the poll do not represent the 5000+ people that own the game. Regarding features, I'm saying don't ask for realism in a feature that will not enhance gameplay while choosing to ignore the lack of realism in features that have a greater impact on gameplay. I'm saying don't be selective with calling for realism (in this thread you demand realism, in another you demand a feature regardless of realism). A mod was offered up in this thread to give you what you are asking for, I even offered the suggestion to only have it affect vehicles that have no crew at all (no team mates, no AI). Neither of the solutions were good enough and you are calling me rigid and uncompromising? Can we just point to the other thread where you were called out on this by a third party? I rest my case.EDIT: In the ultimate irony, the mod/script was posted by yourself. -
Demand that you meet my approval? I'm just saying you can't seem to get around my arguments, and again you haven't read my posts. BIS does not implement features that are not used by the vanilla game so again, they design it so that modding is possible but generally are not going to invest time in developing features that base users cannot experience (does not add to the marketability of the game). I called it an insignificant feature, because it is. That alone though is not an argument against its implementation. Zeos did post some interesting information, I simply pointed out that it is largely irrelevant to the discussion. Folks will not buy the game based on the ability to use a map on a separate screen. I am also forced to point out that the information he posted states resolution percentages. It does not imply any specific number of users. I offered that it should be implemented as vanilla for vehicles that have electronic map displays but not for other units. This maintains the theme of realism while adding the source code for modders to do with as they please. If good sense is impossible criteria then your ideas fail on their own merit. In the end though, my opinion is my opinion and I am entitled to it just as you are entitled to yours. I see no reason why we cannot have a civil discussion regarding our different perspectives. Open, civil debate is healthy. If you are angered by what I have to say, perhaps you are angry with yourself because you feel you don't have a strong counter to my position. Or perhaps you take it just a little too personally. ---------- Post added at 10:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:13 AM ---------- That's a great suggestion Myke. Might I point out that without outlining the pros and cons and establishing the opinions of the player base beforehand it is impossible to reach a compromise on those things. It is hard to meet in the middle until youknow where the middle is.

AI Voices..only need one command.Clean it up
anfiach replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I don't think it a disputable subject that the voice acting is horrid and a lot of the chatter unnecessary. Personally I don't have an issue with multiple phrases for the same command though, redundancy can get boring. -
Actually this thread was originally started by a woman, I just don't think enough women play/have identified themselves that BIS would feel justified in spending the time to do something about it. ---------- Post added at 09:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:40 AM ---------- He must mean informed rather than idealistic.

anfiach replied to abel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
So there you have it, you would rather rely on character assassination than to provide reasoned arguments in support of your positions. You also do not seem to take the time to read my posts considering your statements regarding their content. That's ok, we can't catch everything, can we? -
Purist, I'm not even sure you understand what you mean when you say that. What modders want is generally irrelevant to what the vanilla game should have but even more irrelevant to this discussion. Dual head more popular than triple head? That's easy, triple head is so damned expensive it doesn't take a scientists to figure that out. Also, if you were actually reading what I was saying you would understand that I am not against that kind of functionality at all. If a person cannot intelligently express why they want something or how it should be implemented they will come off as just whining "gimme gimme gimme". If you can't get passed me, how do you convince the developers to invest the time and effort (and money) to work on a feature that you want rather than what someone else wants?

Separate MP-client / installation [Feature request to BIS]
anfiach replied to bensu's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Let me just point out that there is a reason the Demos have been becoming more and more limited, people will play them for a very long time and just move on to something else, never buying the game. He wasn't really referring to disc space so much as the fact that it would simply include the entire game therefore you get 3 games while paying for just one. That would cause fewer copies to be sold, not more. A wiser request would be for a demo for lan play consisting of 1 or 2 coop missions and 1 pvp mission. Something that can really showcase the game while being redundant enough that people will either buy the game or quit playing the demo. Anything larger should require a recurring fee with and only be used for lan.
