Did you try and look at sticky threads or use the search feature? http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=26377Did you try to look + change your keys in controller options?
Why should someone like to see his view cluttered with consolish circles and signs?
Interface should be simple and intuitive - not disturbing and annoying.
Yep... I have seen that forum, but I think that interface topic is about something else so I decided to open this one.
Have you played with Crysis? Why do you think its Interface is cluttered? Do not you agree with me that the current action menu could be more simple and transparent?
---------- Post added at 09:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:04 AM ----------
I like being able to pre-select an action I know I'm going to need shortly, while still being able to move and look around etc. So I don't entirely like the idea of an interface that interferes with that. The faster selection time would help mitigate this though. The other problem is that the game has many, many actions. Scripts can add actions. Being near objects gives different actions (open/close doors, UAV control, 'gear', dragging, healing, many MP missions have a flagpole you get a 'paradrop' option from or areas where you can spawn vehicles, etc.). So having a set place for every action isn't very viable. Even without the custom actions that scripts can add, you'd end up with very tiny slices that would be hard to select from.
I don't hate the idea, and I have had the same thought before, but the drawbacks haven't gotten me completely convinced.
Most of the time there are 2-6 options in action menu, and in my opinion 8 slices from the circle could be enough - and still transparent and simple. In case there are more alternatives, of course you can make one slice called Other actions which are not so common, or for any other commands.
I am not sure you did get me right. Everything has its place means that when you are close to a car, or want to give a first aid, take weapon etc. you will find the same actions in the same slice of the circle (just like in case of the current action menu), which could vary depending on the situations you are in. So one slice can be (for instance): get in a car, disembark, first aid ... its all depending on the given situation.

My suggestion would be to change the interface of the action menu to something like more user friendly - I`ll explain what I mean here exactly a bit later.
My point is: When I would like to change my weapon, or interact with the environment, it takes about 5-7 seconds - which is too long in my opinion, especially in a firefight, if we can make this time shorter - till I scroll down to the desired action, not to mention when some other action becomes available at the moment when I have finally chosen what I want, and then I realize that I suddenly chose something else, because the action menu list has changed.
Have you ever thought about changing this Action Menu Interface to something like in Crysis? I`ll press a key, then the optional actions pop up in a circle (the circle is split to pieces) which is in the centre of the screen (in the circle everything has its place, with this we can avoid choosing different commands if the action menu gets refreshed just when we have chosen the command). This method is more transparent, easier and quicker to pick your desired command and also can shorten the communication time (by 70%) between the PC and the player.
Once again. The action menu circle pops up, there are the optional commands... (while you are pressing the key, the mouse movement is limited within the circle), so you just have to move the mouse to that direction, where your desired action is.
The circle`s backround could be transparent green - just like the current action menu, - while the text is white.
Tell me what do you think!

In case a player has got Arma 2, I hope it will be possible to install only the expansion next to the Arma 2. Just like it was possible with QG. And if some one has not got Arma 2, then he/she can install the whole game.

Yes W0lle... the problem is that BI is forgetting the most important part of their business, their clients, and without them there is no more cash flowing. End of BI.So it's better for them to start changing things, or giving ears to those who express their reasoned opinions, and don't get to much confident from the words of a couple of sheep's that are resident in this parts of the forums.
Yep.. that was my point. Customers have to respected. The negative critics are important, more important than the positive ones.
The way I see that they put money before clients. Which can be good in short term - this is what most of commenters call business. But we cannot say what is right or wrong till we do not see the whole picture.
-
I envy you, really I do. You must be a true insider if you can tell that BIS has not enough resources to cover both games. Wow now I'm really impressed. Please stop confusing people here with your (not exisiting) knowledge and let BIS decide where and how they make use of their developers.
Since this is a forum where people can tell what is on their mind I though I was free to do that...
What does resource mean in your dictionary? Developers... Resource means everything that a project requires: money, knowledge, developers, capital, etc.
I was talking about long-term business goals, and you are talking about the opposite here.
All I just want is a great community, without diversions. In order to reach that all opinions are needed. Don`t you think?

No, this is rubbish.Look it up, they started working on OAH even before ARMA 2 was released.
Well, the graphic artists did as they had nothing else to do - their job was done and I suppose they just didn't wanna sit around and do nothing (surprisingly not everyone can do everything - 3D modeler won't go around fixing engine bugs...).
I am sure that they started to work on plan B, if plan A is not going to succeed as well as they predicted - I do not know which is which :).
My idea would be to give some sort of discount to those, who bought Arma 2. Because they are the core why Bohemia is still alive, so Bohemia should not forget about loyal customers - especially when Bohemia has no big capital companies behind them. Not to mention, with this movement not only the loyality would grow, but it would be easier to track how many of their current customers bought OA, and how many they lost.

Not a standalone PC game is sold to you but an expansion pack, which is standalone. Why it's sold as standalone is explained in the first post.Welcome to the world of entertainment software. This might be destroy your picture of the world but yes, this is just a business. It always was a business and ever will be.
And why OA is a slap in the face only you know I guess. Was Resistance for OFP a slap in the face? Was Queens Gambit a slap in the face? No because no one was forced to buy the expansion. And this time the expansion is made standalone so people without ArmA2 can still play it, actually I find this a very interesting idea. And those who already have ArmA2 can use their product in Arrowhead. So where in the world you see a problem (besides that AO should be free for you, of course)?
Really, I don't get it why people come up here with "business suggestions" for BI when they can't even read one or two threads.
yes I know it could be very interesting for new buyers, but lets just not forget those who payed for Arma 2. And Lets just not say, that Bohemia has enough resources to cover both games... come on!
-
OMG yes your right, this is the end :pray:not this, but this may be the answer why their product can`t compete as well as they would like it to.
-
Ah for crying out loud!THEY ARE NOT ABANDONING ARMA 2!!!
I am not saying that they are abandoning Arma 2... but lets say you have 100 employees... you have just launched a game, so every employee have to work on finishing and fixing the product you have just launched... now you are running out of money because the sales have not exceeded your prognosis.
What options you have got? Make a newer/better game, and hope that will get some attention and make some money. From this moment you have to split your dev. team to fifty-fifty, or rather 30-70. What does that mean to current customers? Less attention, because they have not got resources to cover both games.
But Bohemia needs money and have no other options, they think, or I rahter think :)
The business strategy they have choosen could be a start to another interesting topic.
-
I do not really understand this. As I believe this is because the wrong communication from Bohemia. Got to add that I fully agree with Zolten.
I know that OA will be a stand alone game for medium price. But my question is: Why Bohemia wants to sell a stand alone PC game (especially when its better optimized, newer features, less bugs) for half the price as Arma 2 has?
What happens with the current customers, that already payed and purchased Arma 2? Does not matter? This is just a business? This is just like a slap in the face for the Arma 2 owners. I only hope that Bohemia is going to get this back from one of their business partners. So they sell you something for which you have to pay 100% price, and after 2 months the business partner annouces that they have a better product for half price.
Haven`t you heard that invest 80% into current customers, and only 20% to get new ones?
-
I am interested if this is a stand alone game, then how can those obtain it.. who own Arma 2 already? I guess they do not want to pay the whole price once again.
-
Do you think that 2 more GB memory would help something in my case? i have an average 25-33 FPS -offline/online.
-
Well... I think 28-27 FPS is more than enough to play the game smoothly - assuming that you do not loose more than 1 FPS in any situation.. - when you enter a town, or get into a big firefight, in this case you would not realize that the game is not running smoothly.
You said 40 FPS is playable... its because the FPS drops from 25-28 by almost 10 percent, it can make the gameplay annoying and unplayable. But when you got 40 FPS, that FPS drop is not significant and does not affect your gameplay.
In addition I have heard somewhere that our eyes see in the real world only 25 FPS.
-
yes.. and your point is?I am having the same FPS like you mentioned in one of your previous comments.
In towns I have 18-25, but if I stand somewhere in the woods where there is nothing "important" in front of me then I get 50-60 FPS.
-
I have noticed framrate increase since I installed this patch.. I am glad.. before this, my FPS was stuck at 21-24 - did not matter how the settings was set, now during the campaign sometimes it goes up to 55 from 22 ..
-
Yes, that's great.......No way....the Bohemia Interactive games are always a:
"bug festival". (but I dont care for about 99% of them. I only care of the 1%, the serious bugs....)
But this could be the last one....
In fact i read some articles of german reviewers (the deepest reviewers in my opionon), which clearly state:
- or Arma 2 is patched soon and it will be a solid masterpiece
- or it will be a partial catastrophe..that is a lot of potential/reliability thrown away, for the fear that Codemasters "eat" market share with OFP 2... (this is the reason for the early release of Arma 2).
C'mon BOhemia, this is competition....
I want you to win this competition, and show to the public that you are better than Codemasters. That's very important. I have already done my part (bought Arma 2 original). I want to defend your game design view, because i like it. Now it's your turn: demostrate that your "vision" of game design is sustainable. That means: patch and eliminate serious bug.
I really like Arma 2 mission design: realistic, with interacting NPC, squad based, very innovative and immersive.
OFF-topic:
Based on the released OF2 in-game videos, that game is rather similar to Battlefield series. Its an arcade FPS. Considering this, these two games are not targeted for the same market.
-
Seems like everyone is having the same bug..
I think Bohemia should be very happy that their community care about them! Community just keeping them informed about the game they have made.. its the best source and its free!
-
Sorry .. but I have not met with this in Ama1..
-
I meant some sort of in-game system.. not systems like TS, Ventrilo
-
My suggestion would be to create a system where we can hear the speeches of the closest (in multiplayer) players. For example just like in real life. If I talk to the guy who is next to me on the bus, he hears it.. but the guy at the far end of the bus does not hear nothing - so I do not disturb him.
I could found a similar feature in game already, when I hear the groans of the closest soldiers. So my advice would be to place a system like I mentioned into multi-player part of the game. I believe this could increase the activity of teamwork and the level of gaming.
Just imagine how this system would work in action:
3 of us are actually trying to attack a town and we are close to each other (3-15 meters), and with our voice we are simply able to coordinate each other and carry out the task more effectively, without getting disturbed by others who are working on a different task.

Thanx for the info... seems like I have to order it from UK
On the other hand I do not understand why the local publishers can`t deal with special requests. If I were them, I would surely order a few pieces of ENG version just for stock.
-
Its the same situation here in Slovakia. The game will be released fully in CZ (speaches, text - everything) language, which I do not speak. So, if I pre-order this CZ version from a slovakian store, do you think there will be an option to choose English?
In my case the game release date is 17th on Jun, and if I decide to order from abroad the nearest date I could get the game is a week later.

Sorry but I do not understand this terminology... what is this suppose to mean?
