Windows 8.1 Preview, using AMD supplied 8.1 Preview Drivers, breaks ArmaIII Beta
The.Yield posted a topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Of my entire game library, ArmaIII has found it's way to being the only game that has taken issue with Win8.1 preview, lol :plain: Launching the game through steam results in nothing at all happening, I don't even get to see the loading splash element. Launching through the ArmaIII.exe directly gets me this: http://imgur.com/2a5XcKw This happens in both Dev branch and regular. Now granted 8.1 is preview material and in no way supported by the developers of Arma - but the ONLY game that doesn't work? really? Must be an easy fix... -

Just completed a full reinstall of Win 8.1 (since I -had- done an update). No luck, same error - and a giant waste of time lol. Do you use AMD or Nvidia? -
HDR and Bloom are completely out of control!
The.Yield posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
AMD Phenom II 940 @ 3.6 8GB DDR2 1066 ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe (790FX Chipset) Twin ATI 4870 1GB in Xfire Let me just start by saying that I DO like the motion blur. I personally think it is well done and it compensates nicely during FPS drops. Heck, I even like the "haze" effect that can be seen after running 50 yards+ for a few seconds then goes away as you catch your breath. Now, the HDR lighting and Bloom effects are just... insane. I swear sometimes it feels as though I am playing the game as a newborn puppy that has been drugged up on hallucinogenic mushrooms! Crazy extremes of shifting light and blasting pangs of bloom fill the sky as though I am being abducted by aliens! I'll be looking one direction and it's a beautiful day around 5pm. Then I turn to face the setting sun (putting the sun just above my viewpoint) and suddenly it looks as though it's 9pm! Walking through a forest during a bright sunny day is an experience not dissimilar to punching yourself in the eyes over and over at random intervals (I'd imagine). I seems like 75% of the time (or better) the HDR and bloom isn't that offensive. But when it gets bad, it gets REALLY bad. Don't even get me started on night time! *Gets himself started* First off, night time is PITCH BLACK most of the time in Arma II. Needless to say this is illogical. I can recall countless situations where the grass, trees, bushes, etc were simply devoid of any light - But I could clearly make out a wooden fence in the distance (seemingly illuminated by star/moon light, as it should be!). Keeping in mind that this was a clear night (all the stars and the moon clearly visible). Here's a news flash: The moon light that illuminated that fence should be lighting up... ready for it? ... THE ENTIRE GAME WORLD. Last time I checked the grass in Russia does not absorb the visible light spectrum! And I won't even get myself started on how awful night vision can be sometimes. /rant There sincerely needs to be a way to tone down HDR and Bloom without completely loosing them (or motion blur) in the process. Thoughts? -

Foaming at the mouth for this mod to work fully with ACE :D Sort of a bummer to see regular BIS smoke plumes during a mission. -

I get incorrect/corrupt LOD's on ANYTHING newer than 10.5(a)'s -- But only with crossfire enabled (the whole point). -
ATI 10.8 Drivers with 10.8a CAPs (Good news and bad news)
The.Yield posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
If anyone out there is running Crossfire ATI cards like me (and you keep up with driver news) then you were no doubt excited to read about the new Catalyst 10.8s and the associated hotfix 10.8a crossfire app profiles. Long story short is they claim to have added OA crossfire support without the need to change the name of the EXE to Arma2. Good news is that it works for me. Crossfire activates and I get greatly improved framerates for sure. Bad news is that this results in flickering color and corrupt LOD's (things not drawing at the right detail levels). Has anyone tried these new drivers and gotten similar results? -

The.Yield replied to The.Yield's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Using the latest 10.8b hotfix, with the latest ARMA2 OA beta, I still get flashing world-light and corrupt LODs with crossfire enabled. When I turn crossfire off, all is well. Sad :( -
QFT. Very annoying issue.

How does one disable the leaning entirely? I've turned off the Z axis to get rid of the zooming, but the leaning is truly annoying as well lol.

Starting combined opertions with a mod on steam
The.Yield replied to H.U.N.K's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
You can very simply add all of your mods to the "set launch options" property of the game in steam (right click). This is like modifying your target line from a EXE's shortcut. Then right click on ARMA2 OA in steam and select "launch Combined Operations". But, this will not let you play with a beta patch. To do that, you need to go to the sticky thread and get the beta version of the CMD file that launches CO. Put that file into your OA folder and edit it with notepad like such: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/WaTTz/HowToUseModsWithAOWithBeta.png -
Interesting issue with this new version (haven't been using SLX for a while now). When I try to drag a body, I can't move an inch. When I command my AI to drag someone, they can do it just fine. Anyone else notice this?

Wow, I had no idea that missile speed was so grossly inaccurate compared to real life. Mach 6!? As a warefare player, this is a very big deal and needs to be fixed ASAP.

How to run Steam ArmA 2 + Steam OA + Beta Patches
The.Yield replied to Aiky's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Aiky, how do you add your own launch properties with this method? I.E. -nosplash -world=empty -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -
I completely support the idea of having dual monitor/dedicated map screen support. Really great idea! It would allow for ARMA players to utilize their hardware for maximum game play experience. +1

Putting in my two cents here: Yes, 8GB ram issue fixed! Yay! Preliminary finding, however, seems like AA now doesn't work... More testing required. EDIT: At least on my Crossfired 4870's, yes -- AA is broken.

It's become something of a ghost town in this thread, lol. My group and I had an excellent game last night (about 4 hours long). We reduced the AI to 10 per side to make things a bit less "bogged-down" towards the end of the game. Noticed a few things just in case this warfare is still under development (haven't been keeping up). 1. Fast-time just doesn't seem to work at all... simple as that. 2. Artillery, at least for us, seems completely broken. The last several times we've tried to use it, we simply get blank communication menu's. Not sure if that's some kinda' addons conflict or what, more testing is needed. 3. I think this has been discussed, but bases always starting in the same position is... problematic for the small group of players on the BLUFOR fighting the completely AI OPFOR or vice versa. And more over, the AI is not putting up much of a fight at all. In that game the AI was on the coast and had taken maybe 2 towns and that was it (that's probably a general warfare issue though). But overall a very fun game! Had some epic moments going in on foot into towns, spec-ops style lol. Javelins from the top of apartment buildings etc. Great work proton. EDIT: We've found that some mod(s) we were all using was/were in fact the culprit(s). Not entirely sure what, but my hunch is it was one of the many mods we were using that affects the UI or keybinds. We're doing more testing to figure it out.

Can't wait, Proton! Again, best Warfare mod out there. Fundamental changes that actually mean something as opposed to the non-sense fluff you get in other warfare mods.
-
Sounds good, Proton! Can't wait to hear that you've squashed that weird arty bug. This is the only warfare mod my group plays and for very good reason! It rocks! lol

GMJ Sight Adjustment for ArmA2

Negative, I don't use the built in range card system that's part of the map, I just have the range cards in my cellphone. -

I have a PDA phone with a text editor software, and I have them all in there lol. -

Yes I'm working on a m24 today. Also peeps, if your making your own range cards with spacebar for range, make sure you're using real people as targets (I spawn a civilian squad at the end of the airport runway, lol). :D -

That 5.56 was falling out of the sky a lot more than the DMR's round and past 700m it was getting VERY iffy' to land consistent head shots. -

DMR Range Card 200m = -3 250m = -1 300m = 0 350m = 1 400m = 3 450m = 5 500m = 7 550m = 9 600m = 11 650m = 13 700m = 15 750m = 18.5 800m = 20.5 850m = 24 900m = 27.5 950m = 30.5 1000m = 35 Took a while, should be accurate. Tested against human targets using space bar for range - so should work perfectly. -
We did a very long dedicated game last night. Noticed a few things - Not entirely sure if they are just Superpowers issues or Leet, proton specific issues, lol. After some hours of time, a few of my supply trucks "went stale" - that is to say that they still had move orders and everything but they were just sitting there (verified with status reporting and eyeballing the map coords (I only play in expert, lol)). So I had to give them a no-supply command (by not clicking a town at all) and then give them the desired supply mission again. Which got them going again just fine. We also noted during play that when we capped a city, we couldn't "buy units" while near the city building (Our units list would never populate). Only when you moved away from the city building would the unit lists populate and were then able to order units from HQ. Other than that, the game played pretty flawlessly. I love the random city reinforcements - keeps things interesting. One extra note is that towards the end of the game (several hours) the AI in general bogged down to almost no progress being made from town to town. For about the last hour and a half our entire team of AI were doing pretty much nothing. I think I noted something like one stronghold capped in that entire period of time. That's probably a server/warfare in general issue though. Again, great work Proton, CRAZY fun warfare mod!

I'm chomping at the bit! Can't wait to rain death and malice upon my enemies! :D So with the cost system in place as you describe (which sounds great by the way - should go a long way to curb insanity) is the new player controlled arty interface out? I would love to see it in there - with maybe the scripts I've seen out there to attach mortars into the back of flatbed pickup trucks! Hehe, a man can dream. And in regards to the end-game becoming a cold-war melt down of sorts... Well maybe it should? I mean, if I was in command of a military confrontation of this sort (good thing this is a video game and I AM in command, lol) and it was just devolving into a meat-grinder.... Ya I would likely start just shelling the crap out of the other base, lol. I think that end-game is a natural conclusion.
