Hello,I have a little problem in campaign mode.
After the mission "Vent Glacial' (french version name), I guess the mission in named "Cold Wind" in english version, my team is completely freeze (I tried if I choose the NAPA or FDT). If I send order to the team, they don't move.
I also tried to uninstalled Arma2 and reinstall again and try with the originial version, but nothing change.
This bug is very penalizing. Is someone had this problem ?
What can I do ?
Thank you for your answers.
Best regards.
If you are running any mods, try it without.. That includes language mods etc. I think an old En mod stuffed team orders for people..

Might as well add me to this. I am a patient advanced PC user, and have tried all sorts of wild theories to get the game performing so much so my key is banned for reinstalls and I cant play the game.
If I was an average Jo, the game would have been in the bin and never dusted off again. Being a long time supporter of BIS, Ie Opflash, ARMA, ARMA Gold Edition, and now Arma 2, is the only thing that has kept my interest in this game.. KNOWING how good it could be, rather then actually being that good.
Anyway I hope its something that is addressed soon, one of the big things I was looking forward to is "multicore' support. EVEN if its not going to be done in the forthcoming weeks, PLEASE acknowladge the problem and say you are attempting to find a resolution to it. At least this way I have some hope it will run on my current PC and I won't have to wait 2 years to play it. I fully understand that there may be more critical bugs to fix first, and yes completely understand that you are running a business and sometimes you have to work on the issues that affect most rather the issues that affect the few, but either it would be nice to have it acknowledged.
I have added a pic with typical Arma 2 resource usage, this is during SP Campaign playing Razor Two (which is one that is really bad)

You will notice that my GPU is really not even oout of first gear, 99% of games will have 70+ C. Also you will notice that CPU never hits 100% on any core or the HT cores.

I couldn't find a thread for this so thought I would start 1.
1) Glad yuo put in multi save games, but how about letting them be named by us? Its a little hard to keep track if you are running 2 or so versions of the same mission etc.
2) Zooming in when using the map to call in Starforce etc. Usual keybind to zoom in on the map does not allow zoom making precise Helo landing sometimes a little harder (or am i missing something).. well you can adjust the LZ later but on initial movement
3+ - Obviously work on the CTD, script bugs, Driving AI and performance

Ahh welcome to the woe's. Do a search through the endless GTX295 threads, some things may work..
Sorry without re-reading your posts make sure you have tried these
1) Rename your arma2.exe to crysis64.exe (if your using X64 OS or just crysis.. don't know if there is a difference in the end buy some people had more luck with the former)
2) -winxp in the command line.
3) Try and delete your .cfg files and reconfigure your settings.. I am 99% sure something in this regard was happening to mine..
4) Pray to your god it gets fixed soon.
-
Yes that's just ridiculous. Who ever believes in such a crap is a ...I mean how possibly could renaming some exe change a shit. :D
Actually works. Nvidia drivers contain game profiles, and Arma2 is not prersent yet so often they default to non SLi mode. Crysis64.exe will trigger the SLi profile for that game and it does work. I had my doubts but did get the game to perform for a breif period of time using this and -winxp in startup.
However my problem was "reintorduced" somehow by playing in the game and performance went back to crap.
-
My Vram is reported as 1792x ram.. Which is double of what the gtx295 has logically. I can't test my game at the moment but wanted to hardcode memory to 896mb (whetver that is in bits..), I thought that by detecting more memory then infact the GTX295 has can cause some of this massive performance "droop".
Like I said, on a fresh install of VIsta x64 and 186.08 driver I had the game running perfect 58-60fps in say Razor Two SP mission, whears after playing game for a while I couldnt get over 40 again. So something fu&*ked up is happening somewhere. (Obviously I tried machine, mission restart).
All i can say is ARGH.. hopefully i get my key unbanned tomorrow and I can get this tested yet again and take some movies of it in FRAPS so i have some proof for the devs.

I think people are completely getting this thread wrong.
There are serious difference between performance for users. As Philll said people with midrange cards sometimes perform better then top teir pc's.
While I expect high FPS in games, simply saying the scope of ARMA2 makes it so slow is BS. SOME people have the game running well with similar HW so its a defunct argument. Heck I had the game running at avg 58FPs for about 2 hours before it all went to shit and couldnt get over 40 again (all in the same campaign mission).
Now clearly as its not happening to all people, there is something that we can probably fix and being "computer" minded people we are trying everything we can think of.

With Securom it seems more like "everyone are criminals, especially customers".Too right.. people who want a "pirate" version will have one.. And they freaking wonder why people turn to consoles.

I know building my own computer would help, but I would like some some some people to tell me which parts I would to build a gaming PC with the recommended system requirements so I can run ArmA 2. I'm not a big expert on computers nor am I a computer enthusiast., so choosing which parts are the best is extremely overwhelming and I'm 14 and building one my overwhelm me as well. So I need HELP!!!!EDIT: My sister's friend knows about computer and he can help me find the right parts and help me build it, so I shouldn't have too many problems. Are you guys telling me to stay away from pre-built computers because of their price?
EDIT: Concerning the Alienware PC, you can customize it by choosing which parts you want for computer. Couldn't I get a good enough PC by doing that? My do that instead of building my own.
If you never built a PC, don't start on a brand new shiny pc.
Most places will have an option to have a PC built for you to your taylor specs. Definately dont learn on new hardware no matter what other people tell you, its silly and although its very easy and monkeys can be trained to do it, its just as easy to fry the thing if you do something wrong.
Here is an example of what I would look for,

Pretty much choose what you need out of a decent line up.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2009/06/05/confirmed-core-i7-920-940-950-to-go-soon/1. Just so that you know Lynnfield will use the i7 name not the i5 as Intel confirmed. Westmere will not use i5 name as no one knows what name it will use and neither do you. Next time before you attack someone you should reconsider ;).Well, speculation so far but I'll give you that. Last roadmap I looked at a few months ago looked very different to that.. not the one i read but
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/intel_32nm_westmere_roadmap/
Well definately something I will be looking into, perhaps final nail in AMD's coffin
EDIT: This is the last slide I saw

x58 to get 6C/12T while P55 4C/8T (And other lesser features)

8. Socket 1366 is already obsolete and the only possible upgrade choices for it will be the 6 core Extreme Edition Gulf Town die shrink of Bloomfield. Not to mention LGA 1366 will be replaced by LGA 1156 in Q3/Q4.
Where the hell do you get your info from? 1366 is not being replaced by 1156,.. 1156 is for mainstream core i5, while 1366 will continue to be enthusiast+. While i5 will be the first with westmere architecture, thats only untill q1 2010.

Hello :]These are my specs, how do you think they will run with arma 2 and what settings do you think I could run at?
Windows xp
Intel pentium D CPU 3.40ghz
1gb of ram (Getting 2gb in a week)
Nvidia Geforce 8600gt 256mb
Keep in mind, I can run Arma 1 at Medium/High in a battle at 25-30fps and thats with 1gb of ram (Getting 2gb in a week).
Thanks
Sorry mate not being rude or offensive (well hope not), I wouldnt even bother with this game and that hardware unless you are happy with super low resolution and detail. Just enjoy Arma 1 and revist arma 2 when it becomes a little more mature or you get a better pc
Check out the german review site that compared 18 processors and 10 odd GPUs.. Really in your shoes if you want to have any enjoyable experience buy some second hand parts, say c2d, 4gb ram and something at least higher then 8800GT and expect to play decent FPS @ normal/low 1280x1024.

Philll - fancy seeing you here :) Still no go..
MAKE SURE YOU deactivate somehow tho! Or you will be like me and doing nothing except reading forums while I wait for key to get unbanned.
Core I7 cpu's are a bad combo with NVIDIA gpu's, there seems to be a bottleneck that holds back performance.Obviously you mean in respect to this game yeah? But 4870x2's run like dogs too.. Only one other game I have had problems with aside from this, and thats Empire TW (Came out buggy as hell).. but that I can stomach as 40fps+ is sufficent in that game genre.
Did the HT on OFF trick work for anyone? I did try CPU COunt=2,3,4,8 and it didn't have a significant impact that made me sit up.. HT is handled by the OS, but I would have thought Vista/Win 7 would be better at this then win xp by now.. bugger knows. PS> New Intel INF has come out, i doubt that will fix anything tho.
Obviously 1.02 patch didnt solve this issue yet, but having software run like a dog on state of the art machines is something that should be looked into. It will be a few years before my system is considered mainstream so the game will be playable for the average jo in 2-3 years unless they accept running thigs in resolutions from 5 years ago.
I still think (hope!) its something that BIS (Nvidia/ATi) will fix soon, but I guess if I was in their shoes i'd be fixing the problems that affect the most first and narrow down from there. Ie crash bugs, campaign bugs etc...
But as someone said earlier, if I was a dev and wanted to show off my new game, I'd ensure that people can jump on the game and be able to enjoy it in all its glory. Now we can compare this to crysis, where people were happy to run that game at 40+ (Motion blur anyone!), but crysis scaled well with hardware. And someone that a top 1% rig, enjoyed top 1% performance, wheras in ARMA2 performance is really in a narrow scatter..
I have a copy of win xp 64, so its the next on the list of things to try.. anyone want to give me another key :P
-
Not sure how the devs have implemented it. I used FarCry2 as an example, since when you uninstall that it deactivates your key so you are free to install on another system.
Personally steam does a great job, you can install it on 10000 machines and its ok, but only one will play at a time :) (Well I have had games installed on my thrashing and muck about drive countless of times.. and being an "overclocker" I frequently muck about with installs and never had a problem..
-
^^ Prehaps the AI needed all that extra CPU power to learn to drive :D

-
Heh, just becareful you dont lock your key activation! I think you get 3 installs.
-
dbl post sorry!

Guys my suggestion..
What FPS do you get in armoury part of the game?
before I was locked out something was killing my performance, and it was either set off by MP or by changing graphic details ingame.
My suggestion would be to back up and delete you .cfg files allowing arma to create new ones(also remove saves during test. Then go in game rebind you keys and set you res and details.. _NOT_ in game but in the main menu.
Go back and adjust manually if you need to change things like render size etc, and "read-only" the files..
As I said I had really good fps in game and then after mucking about in the game for an hour or two it all went to shit even at the same settings, which leads me to believe something random in the .cfg file is causing a significant drop in fps even when SLi/Xfire is working. Sorry I can't test further until my key is unbanned, but I have replicated this 2 times.. (THis was on patch 1.01, but may affect 1.02)
Worth a try :)

Off course the major issue is that a reinstall is very often the only solution due to HD crash or forced OS reinstall, in which cases you'll never even get the chance to do a proper uninstall... I guess you found this out now. Sorry for your loss.In my case it was trying to find the best OS for performance and stability. And unfortunately unistall was not deactivating my key.. Sure it wont help peeps who have a hdd crash but it will help everyone else

Ok, was just going through my fraps images and I came accross this, which I know we have all seen.

Why should I be able to see the cow in this picture. It sort of backs up that culling isn't being done properly ?
As soon as my "LOS" hits the hill it should abort the calculation and I should not know there is a cow on the otherside.
EDIT: Or is this actually adding complexity to the calculation
-
Wow looks kewl, however for games like Arma 2, usually as mentioned you get shot you die so wouldn't be much help... Wonder if there is a "sadistical" setting for pain enhancement :)
-
Would be nice if securerom "deactiavted" your key when you uninstall through windows installer. For example like in FarCry2, when you uninstall the game the key will deactivate auto for you.
Be weary with the digital download versions, that you manually deactivate your key by using this program before deleting/uninstalling as each install on a different OS counts as a PC.

I'm sitting locked out as a result of bug finding between OS'es :(

1722146817 should be allright cause 2X880 =1760 -5% = +/- 1720,so this works but it doesn't enable sli. crysis.exe does but don't do it!!! it will damage your card.
I'm sorry to tell ya but arma is still in Beta phase for the 295 in my opinion.
no proper working sli no nvidia driver for arma 2 ( they should it will be one of the best games in 2009 ) crysis.exe does work if you wanne burn your Gpu hitting temp to 95° and more. = solution; set fan manual to 80% = loose warranty, else you got about 20-25 Fps ^^.
only solution for now buy another video card. I know got same problem trying to fix it from the german release till now, still no solution.
The thing is tho altho marketing is around 1792Mb of RAM, the card really is 2 distinct card in SLi (What have become GTX275's just lower clock due to sandwich). Each card is 896Mb RAM and when SLi runs from my understanding both cards will have THE EXACT same info in there so you cant say you have 1792 because that would mean that both cards run in one memory pool, if that makes sense..
Also @ Goldkid - to give you an idea, my card can OC nicely to 700/1500/1200 (close to limits without voltmods), so for games like this where is the GPU slowing things down I run at 650/1400/1100 - Fan 60%. Even with these settings the card does not get over 55C! (ie doing no work =() Every other game hits 70C -75C mark.
EDIT: PS You will not loose warranty for setting fan speed. Theoretically you do for OCing, but thats theory.. Saying that I have been OC;ing cards since my first 3d card (Creative Labs 3d Blaster based on rendition chip!!!) and never had one have problems/die as a result.
@ Nemesis, just edit with notepad/wordpad and change the numbers next to render_H and render_W to corrrespond to you resolution :) It won't make a huge impact but will make things just a little clearer.
-
@ frag. does the game have to be running? or just copy an paste as it is?this...
language="English";
adapter=-1;
3D_Performance=93750;
Resolution_Bpp=32;
Resolution_W=1920;
Resolution_H=1200;
refresh=60;
Render_W=1893;
Render_H=1183;
FSAA=0;
postFX=2;
HDRPrecision=8;
lastDeviceId="";
localVRAM=922484736;
nonlocalVRAM=2143780864;
Nah thats perfect, I may be onto something here.. don't know I have been grasaping at straws for awhile :)
But
your localVRAM=922484736; = ~880Mb which is pretty much right (880 close enough to 896)
Mine is double that
My localVRAM= 1722146817;
Non local = 2147483647;
Now I don't know whether the VRAM is detected or its simply set by detail settings.. argh when I get unblocked i;ll check >:)
Also nemesis I would suggest to edit your .cfg and change your render size to be your display size, ie 1920x1200. The slider thing says 100% but its not accurate. Image will look a tiny bit sharper :)
Ie:
Render_W=1893; Change to 1920
Render_H=1183; Change to 1200

I think its ready, when its ready is legitimate answer for software... Its not like baking a cake FFS!
I'd rather them take an extra day or two or longer as long as the end result if better. May as well get it to 100% rather than 80% and an extra 20 later if you know what I mean....

An open letter to BIS Devs re: GTX 295 rigs.

^^ Eventually.. if its not sorted in the next 2-3 weeks I will have given up on this game and BIS. After the nightmares I had in ARMA I am not going through all that again!
