  1. Oops 186.18 yeah.

    Just played a decent game of Warefare (17 town), and the lowest FPS i got was in the 50's and thats flying my Ka52 over city.

    Runs very very nice, SP however (Say Razor Two/Manhattan etc) still in the 30's.

    I'm running it now with V-sync @ Tripple Buffer on and was very very nice.. Finally I am happy and can enjoy the MP experience rather then cursing at the slide show ;)

    Like I said I just think its the 182.5 and crysis64.exe (without -winxp) that did it for me, but you never know so I listed all the steps I did on both my partitions :)

  2. Hiyas, I thought I'd share my ways of getting SLi working properly on my system. It has taken me god knows how many hours and how many attempted work arounds but somehow the steps I followed this time worked on both vista and win7 (its funny as I was just trying out SLi Patch). Now I am not going to use my last re-activation to try this a different way to see if you can change a step or 2 but if you're still having issues this is what I did and have replicated it 2 times on 2 diff os's.

    Also please note that win7 7232 has given me the best result out of everything. (6500 AM2 vs 6100AM2 in Vista X64)

    My system is as follows -

    i7 @ 4.2

    GTX295 650/1500/1100

    6gb PC1600

    PS - I have been running this with HT off since doing so I have not had 1 MultiPlayer crash.

    Now at 1920x1200 (100% Fill) Texture V High/Ansi V high/Vid Mem Very high /Post Pro Low/Rest normal I get ~6500 Armamark with test 5 only being below 60fps (46.xx fps)

    Ok this is what I did step by step. I have done this on 2 os's one a clean install one my main work install.

    1) Installed Arma 2 and all patches

    2) Installed 168.18WHQL drivers (* Was trying EVGA SLi Patch which did not work)

    3) Installed EVGA SLi Patch 13

    4) Installed 185.2 WHQL drivers (* Rolled back to 182.5's BUT Straight over top)

    5) copied and renamed arma2.exe to crysis64.exe (* This was my previous best result)

    6) changed my shortcut to add in my mods and -nosplash & -world=empty **NO -winxp as that sucked the performance out. (* This were my previous best settings)

    7) Changed the crysis64.exe in nvidia control panel to turn v-sync off

    Ran the crysis64.exe and worked like a charm. (MUCH better then it did when i had 182.5's and same settings only hours before!)

    Now as silly as this sounds, I have tried 182.5's and crysis64.exe countless of times (including clean installs), and I had it work for me a couple of times but as soon as I went into MP my game went to shit again.. This way its been perfect.

    No I would assume you don't need the EVGA SLi Patch or the 168.18 drivers since you're using 182.5s and using a crysis64.exe to launch but I have had no time to do another clean install so I thought I would provide the step by step I used as it worked 2 times now. Please note using the Arma2.exe and Sli patch (which is what I tried to do before going back to 182.5's) did bugger all for me, as I mentioned earlier using cyrsis64.exe worked best for me.

    Anyway it would be interesting whether its just 182.5's and crysis64.exe or something to do with the sli patch? who knows, so if you're having issues still try this and let me know. We can then perhaps cut back steps :) Weird thing with arma2 tho, is some ways work for some but not others..

    EDIT: Also I would suggest to see if it works for you by using armamark II or even jumping in the editor and running around the world. I still find SP missions to drag on, but my MP has improved somewhat.. There are still issues to do with i presume world/ai routines that hamper performance in SP.

  3. asmorrey - what are your system specs, what are the drivers you are using, what are the ways you have tried to fix this?

    It took me almost 1.5 weeks to improve my fps, and it seems that many peoples systems behave differently. I know I am still not using my system 100% but its much better then it was.

    Let me know, I have 1.5 weeks worth of attempts I can share :P

    I am only playing MP now, and have not had 1 crash in 8 hrs now and perfromane is up from 25-30fps to 35-45 (and 60+ when new map is loaded with little AI).

    Anyway let us know and we can try to help!

  4. Same settings as above but with post processing on low and 3D resolution at 100% (1920 x 1080)

    17496300.png

    LOL, You're PC is lower spec then mine and kicks mine's arse.. I think I will avoid dual GPU solutions in the future.

  5. Sorry for your probs, but it took me 2 weeks to get the game going fairly well, esp with SLi.

    I would suggest -> Using 182.5 drivers

    Ensuring you have updated DirectX

    perhaps try the -maxmem=2047 flag

    rename the arma2.exe to crysis.exe

    It does take some time, and it seems there is no single solution for everyone, but you can get it to perform.

  6. Wow another thread like this.. It will be closed shortly.

    We all know it will be patched, but we are all dissapointed it needs them. This is irrespective of how OpF and ARMA came out, thats no excuse and thats what shits me, people just say oh well. Anyway as Ethne said, the game is a canvas, and I must say my MP has been a lot more stable since I turned HT off and changed drivers so for the moment aside from performance issues I am fast becoming much happier. Now I see more and more of the AI improvements when playing say DOmination or other Coops so gaming experience is very plesant now..

    BUT YOU CAN"T make excuses for sloppy work.

  7. your drivers are not the issue...stop listening to misleading senior member suggestions.

    ARMA II coding is the error here and we are all really fuking pissed

    ^^ Troll much?

    I have tried almost every driver from 181 -> 186, and 182.5s so far have given me the best game experience *Based on performance/stability*. I have had fewer CTD's then I did with other drivers as well .. why would sharing your experiences = misleadnig? Sure the game has a heap of bugs, but this may help people reduce the ones caused by HW drivers.

    Do you want all my FRAPS logs?

  8. I think we have had some speculation regarding this prior, it HT and how the virtual cores may actually kill execution times.

    To be honest AFAIK OS handles the HT, and whether Vista/Win 7 does something that kills the game engine I do not know.. I didn't get any extra FPS when I turned HT off (as some people report) but I won't discredit people who have.

  9. Well we all know this thread will be locked soon.

    Like many I rushed out and bought the German game (This is what loyal fans do).

    Now I fully expected there to be bugs, but seriously aside from the performance issues (YES I EXPECT MY TOP OF RANGE PC TO GET OVER 25-30 Fps in MP), There are major crash bugs everywhere.

    I have tried to play Single Player -> pretty much get 3-4 CTD when I play later missions, or other issues with AI etc. So SP is not playable, though with Multi Saves its made it a little easier.

    Now I am sorry, but this making of excuses for developers is not on. Its because of this attitude that we are handed big piles of steaming shit and we take them with a smile.

    The "give them time" excuse does not work, what were they doing for the last 2-3 years of development time? If they could not finish on time, they should delay it. Or if you blame the publisher, perhaps realise that they agreed to the dates. If I ran any of my projects like this I wouldn't have a job. This is not acceptable in any other industry, and I certainly hope people don't make it acceptable in the gaming industry.

    EDIT: ANd if you really think about it, they wanted to (probably needed to) come to market first and beat Op FLash2. Now this may or may not be the case but....

    The excuse that they are a small team is no good either - If you're too small to handle a project don't do it, or get extra help. I don't know how many beta testers that had in this game, but clerarly they were insufficient.

    HAVING said all this, I love the OpF and ARMA concept and I am patient. I do know BIS does support games well after their launch (well it takes them this long to get them playabale), and I know the commuity is probably one of the largest most mature modding communities in any product around in the gaming.

    I certainly hope that in the coming month 99% of these issues will be sorted, and I do wish BIS well as I certainly hope to see products from them in the future. But I do hope they learnt after their last 2 games that they need more time to

    1) Develop the game

    2) Alpha/Beta test the game etc.

    So the next game I play from BIS will feel like a finished product rather then something that I pay to beta test.

    Anyway I think I have said my piece, but this fanboism has to be curbed, you can't go making excuses.. good old saying is - excuses are like assholes, every one has one.

  10. if you NVIDIA card owner read (performance tips) and post your experience here : http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=76908 and http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=907283

    Sorry didnt help here with 186.18 or 182.50. I actually get slightly better fps in armamark 2 with 182.5 but does not translate to anything extra in game.

    I think I have found the problem,

    if (VID==NVIDIA && CPU==INTELi7) {

    for(i=0;i++;1<100000) {

    // Suffer you fools for spending so much money on computers! HAR HAR its april fools

    } Else {

    Work properly;

    }

  11. If you OC'ed to say 3.8+, It would make baby jesus cry if you pc dropped below 60fps.

    BUT this is arma2, so anything is possible. A lot of people including me are having less then stellar performance on high end rigs. Now I dont know if this is to do with a i7/SLI isssue or OS .. anyway you can see the countless threads about this.

    But yeah, I would be expecting 60 odd.

    I get 60fps in armoury (= low AI) and only 30-35 in game and lower in towns.

    On a 4.2i7 and GTX295 so go figure. So yeah for some the game runs perfect for others like a 2 legged dog

  12. yeee, well it took Armed assault to get playable for me after 2 years... hope it wont be like that with arma2...

    Yeah it wont be 2 years, it will be 3 :eek:

    Seriously tho, there are some major issues on high end hardware at the moment, and I am sure when they "unclog" the pipe so to speak the game may improve a heap for us..

    IN say armoury missions, my fps hardly ever drop below 60, in towns, out of towns etc etc, smooth as butter.. but as soon as they add their big scripts in for the SP missions and extra AI it goes to shit. Now I don't believe that its my CPU limitation (4.2Ghz i7) and GPU is certainly not operating at full titl either as it could pump out 60+ FPS in the armoury missions..

  13. Your specs are decent for a laptop, but this game is very demanding on CPU and GPU. I would suggest downloading the latest drivers etc., but it is unlikely you will get much more..

    Make sure when you run the game that you kill all other apps that maybe taking your cpu cycles etc.

  14. I think this is the problem I have expereinced and made a post about before.

    On a clean install using Vista x64 and the various work arounds for arma 2 to get SLi working I enjoyed a buttery gaming experience of 55-60fps (avg 58) in SP campaign of Razor Two and Manhattan.

    Now when I went to multiplayer my FPS dropped back to 25-30. Going back to the same mission I would only get 35-40 max again. Now I have replicated this 2 times on clean installs, mine was not as pronounced as yours seems, ie "turning on and off" but it killed the game.. I have had my game activations reinstated so I will try this again and see if I can do a fraps vid to document.

    But yeah, something is screwed.. I don't know if in your case the FPS is caused by AI tick-tock or what else it could be but I hope the devs fix it.

  15. All it really comes down to is a wind back to the older drivers, deleting the ArmA2.cfg, making sure that v-sync is disabled on the Nvidia control panel (in fact, make sure that you dont override any application settings) and then not messing about with the in-game graphics settings apart from maybe lowering them.

    I must have doubled my frames by doing just that. Things started to go wrong when I tried to up the settings (playing on Normal is just so wrong when using an Nvidia 295) and also when getting close to cities or built up areas. The first few missions were glorious in their performance and speed but it started to dip the more I progressed, as thats where the built up areas come into play.

    Plowjoy, I have tried every driver between 186 - 181.

    I have tried every setting in the video options and every combination of these. Tried every flag, and tried every possible name of .exe and using nhancer to mod driver settings

    I have tried 3 diff OSs including 2 clean installs, and I did get the game running well on my last attempt, however when I went into MP the game turned to shit.. My key is banned as a result (was reloading OS to try again)

    .. So I KNOW its possible to have the game running properly, but its like a friggin unicorn. When I had the clean install on VIsta 64 with 186 drivers razor two avg fps was high 50's.. played it for about 30 mins.. then went to MP and FPS dropped to 30 max.. went back to SP and my max in same mission was high 30;s.. so I do think there is something in the .cfg files thats causing massive probs, however being banned i can't do any more testing.

    I know there are a few lucky people who have the game running, i just want to be one of them =)

  16. 2. Revert save system to the old one. The multiple saves are messing up as you can't rename them. And I didn't find a delete-function yet. IF you want to keep it, then implement a full working save system, with renaming, deleting and so on. But I think the whole OFP/ArmA series was better with one save slot. It's much more challenging if you have to make the decision to save or not. Please don't turn the game in such a crappy casual thing.

    I have disagree strongly here. Having one save is fine if you have a) a game that is 100% bug free, b) Multiple users that can use that game (not just using winlogins)

    Definately saves should be named, and perhaps with harder difficulty you can take away save slots.

    I have had my saves corrupted in 1.01 countless of times.. Its great when your 2hrs into a mission just to lose everything.. So yeah multisaves prevents that. I had to Alt Tab and back up my saves before saving..

    Now if you want to be hardcore and only use 1 save, no one is making you do otherwise?! I don't see why all people need to be forced by your paradigm of saving.. this way its not exclusive and everyone is free to play the way they choose. I personally save all the time due to the frequent crashes and problems. So every 10 min I save.. Since game almost crashes every time I play.
