  1. Most people with CTD's seems to be on Win7 64bit. If you rather sit back and wait for BIS to come up with a solution then good luck.

Yeah im running Win7 64bit and have been experiencing the same CTD's although i dont get any errors the arma 2.exe still runs in the background after it crashes, have to end the process through ctrl alt del.

I have tried both the 1.05 and latest beta patches, this wasnt happening to me pre 1.05.

  2. Hey all,

I remember back in the arma1 days when i was creating missions i would use Ammo points to rearm Choppers and Jets on the run without having to stop the jet or heli.

In arma 2 i cant find these ammo points in the editor and the only thing i can rearm my jets and heli's with is the service point building or ammo crates/trucks in which i have to land and come to a stop to rearm.

Is there another way to do this? I have searched and cant find anything on these ammo points?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  3. Man I can't wait until I can shoot up some children while masterbating furiously, please someone make this mod I am desperate.

Thats going a bit far even for sarcasm, it doesnt bother me as i found it quite funny although im sure others wont see it that way.

On topic i think it would be a cool addon as there have been other mods like this for other games as mentioned previously Fallout 3, and not to mention all the war movies out there with kids getting blown to pieces and shot up etc, so whats the difference if its in a video game or movie?

I mean what its ok to kill young women in arma 2 with just about every weapon possible but when it comes to children its considered as evil, a little bit contradictory dont you think?

  4. It has probably been mentioned before although i want to see some more jets and plane addons, the Russians need some bombers like the Tu-160 and Tu-95MS, also maybe custom loadouts for the su-34's with cluster muntions etc.

And of course would love to see some naval battles around chernarussian waters in the near future, so hopefully a few destroyers and frigates are created soon.

  5. Am i a game developer? do own a games company? Are BI soo stubborn that they are not capable of learning something new?

optimization? im sure BI are smart enough to optimise the engine if need be. you sound as if BI are a bunch of thicko's who cant learn and adapt to anything new.

Money wise yea it MAY cost alot to licence the engine but at the same time could cost peanuts at the same time. Do you know how much it costs exactly to use cryengine 3?

Theirs only so much you can do from a what? 3-4 year old engine? Your telling me that BI should stick to their current engine forever?

I dont see how any of this is relevant, if and when arma 3 comes out im sure they would consider using a new engine because by the time arma 3 is even released the old engine would not be able to cut it amongst the new generation of games.

But even if they did decide for a new makeover and use another engine it would not be the cryengine due to mainly cost and other things such as licensing etc, your also talking as if this is around the corner ffs arma 2 just came out dont get to excited.

  6. I got to thinking about just this topic while watching a stream of somebody playing DR. It seems like for the most part, where one developer fell short, the other excelled. Barring collisions in creative vision, they might just create the ultimate war simulator in a joint-venture that is sure to never happen.

    Agreed

I agree on the quality control part, but I disagree on the hardware part because my CPU cost $60 and my GPU cost me $35, and i get decent frame rates on high settings. Sure, if you want to go balls out cranking up every graphics setting, you're gonna be spending a huge chunk of change, but just to play it at normal to high w/o AA or PPE doesn't cost that much. Not to mention, it still looks great at these settings.

I dont know about that statement, Arma 2 requires some good hardware to play the game on high and i doubt a $60 cpu and $35 GPU will play arma 2 on high with decent frames, unless of course you picked up a good dual or quad core for $60 and a fairly recent GPU for $35 which i also doubt.

  7. I just completed the campaign and i must say that i enjoyed it a lot. It was challenging and there were a lot of suprises around every corner which is a nice feeling. I loved the tank wrecks near the russian border to that was cool, as others have said the only problem is the english or lack thereof and also the cheesy lines but for me i understood what was being said so i shouldnt say problem more something that can be rectified next time round.

I'll be looking forward to a sequel with the russian invasion perhaps?

  8. Hello,

I have read and searched the forums. I tried to tweak my graphics but now they are worse. When I move every thing blurs and gets laggy. I switched every thing back to what I thought I had set before and still no improvement.

I am running a AMD 550 OC'd to 3.5, 8800 GTS 512, 4G of 667 RAM(5-5-5-18-2T). So does any one have any ideas where my setting should be? I played with the vsync, AA and AF, and set them back. There were a few guides posted but some links didnt work.

Any help would be great, thank you for your time.

Defintely the GPU holding you back, my old 9600GT struggled at times and after an upgrade to the 4890 arma 2 has been a lot more responsive on higher settings. The new 5850 is even better yet so it should allow you to play higher vid settings inc PP, AA, AF etc etc.

  9. Hi, this is my first post and i have encountered a serious problem with ArmA2

The game keeps crashing to desktop with message "Error: Device freed."

Before crashing, the game constantly stops and shows "receiving...", sometimes it requires ALT+TAB switching to restore the screen from "receiving..." But most of time it just crash after switching. When the game is started the second time, it often crashes after the Disc-Check. I reboot the system but it's useless....

My hardware includes: ATI 4850, Quad 8200, 4G RAM

    OS: XP SP3

    Driver: Catalyst 9.8

So i switch every video option to high (Except for anti-aliasing). Once the game performs pretty well at these settings, normally 22FPS+ even 40FPS+ once. I suspect the problem lies in the game itself. Today i tried to restore the video setting to normal and the graphic card setting to default, still useless.

    So I need your help

Seems a few have had this problem this is all i could find... http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=78912&highlight=device+freed

  10. I finish it to at last and this is how I did it.

    So what I do was:

    -I let the AI command.

-After I talked to the commander I talked to Marny(near the UAZ) and he told me to consecrate my efforts to capture Elektrozavodsk(not sure of the name of the Town)

-I took a UAZ and take each area in turn as ordered so I could make some money

-I took from a dead officer Night Vision goggles

-After Elektrozavodsk captured US marines contact me and gave me Troops to command in high command. They also gave me Lopotev position on an Island.

-I board in one of the US choppers with a lot of troops and landed to the Island and took Lopotev prisoner. After that I deliver it to the Russians and that made the Deal with the Russians complete as they were convinced to leave.

-I then I attack the Chedaki base in Mtsa and then Flawless Victory.

It's an impressive mission as its a full scale war. You have to have patience in some situation and not to always push forward by keeping a defensive position in some towns until reinforcements arrive.

In Mtsa that is were the Chedaki base is located, I had a very long fight until I manage to capture the Town and then destroy the main Chedaki Base. I manage to capture and hold the main town after a long fight(attack and retreat) but a Tank was defending the main Base. I kept defensive position in the town clearing any Chedaki troops that tried to recapture the Town until the AI send reinforcements with Tanks that destroyed the Tank that was defending the main Chedaki Base. Then I found a damaged enemy Tank that was abandon and blow up the Main base from afar and any BMP that the Chedaki spawn to defend the Base. Then Flawless Victory. It was an awesome experience.

It is an awesome mission yet the most fustrating by far, i have come across so many bugs in this mission more than any other and i still cant finish this level without the endmission cheat. I dont see why this campaign is not fixed yet? 4 Patches and still the campaign is a broken mess, they fix one thing but not another and surely when testing these bugs would have been noticed.

Anyways ill keep having a crack until i get through it as i still enjoy the game apart from the moments where the bugs ruin it and i feel the rushing urge to smash my monitor to bits but hey im sure we have all been there.

  11. My point was that all hard drives made in the past 2-3 years are SATA 2. I dont think you can get SATA 1 any more unless you buy second hand.

I've been using 64-bit Windows 7 for almost a year now, even in the incomplete stages it was still much better in terms of reliability and performance than Vista or even XP, and usually I'm not much of a Windows lover.

I have recently moved over to win 7 x64 and it seems to run like a dream, have ran both xp and vista previously and win 7 is the most reliable and defintely runs smoother out of the 3. Arma 2 also runs a bit better under win 7 than vista/xp imo.

  12. LOL @ BI letting us down again, this patch and the last are awesome imo.

Keep doing what your doing BI, ARMA2 is awesome, as are the updates.

They have let us down, we got told they would be focusing on performance in this patch and they have clearly not done so?? Unless you have noticed an increased in FPS? But if you have im not sure why that would be as there are no performance fixes listed??? :j:

Anyways not much we can do now except wait for the next patch...:butbut:

  13. Yeah i highly doubt that even the next patch will include performance fixes, like i said this is deja vu all over again, same exact thing happened back in the arma 1 days and it took 14 patches then to get things sorted out so im tipping in another 10 or so patches we should be right to go for arma2.

BIS has let us down yet again whats new.....

  14. I guess im not suprised there have been no performance fixes, I tried the patch out and it has not increased in fps what so ever. In fact in the larger cities i have lost frames, I swear im having deja vu all over again.

What happened to all the promises from mods stating that BI will be improving performance in this patch?? Am i the only one who cant notice any performance increase?

    Patch 1.04= EPIC FAIL

  15. Rhamstein;

Unfortunately it is running in Flex mode now. I was running Dual Channel before, but I have a uneven chip now.

    Originaly I had 2 x 1gb chips,

    now i have 1 x 1gb and 1 x 2gb, making it uneven.

The original 1gb chip is 800mhz/pc6400 and the new one is the same speed.

System is really clean, and I can't pump anymore FSB into it without getting a aftermarket cooler.

I'll try to tighten my ram timings up a bit, becuase they are still a bit messy. I loosened them for stability when I was testing the 439 FSB clock.

So the general consensus is that my CPU is fine (E8400 OC'd to 3.95ghz), but my graphics card (9500gt-512mb) is the problem?

If thats the case, I'll just make do with what I have for the time being, and wait for the prices to come down with DX11 cards release.

Anything else I can do to increase frame rate? Already disabled PhysX. And pre-rendered frame are at 3, anymore than that and I start getting mouse lag.

Have you tried OC your 9500? In my old system i overclocked the 9600GT which gave me a few more frames in certain games and was quite stable with mid range temps. If you havent done so already its probs worth a shot.

Also if you are getting a new gpu maybe the ati 4890 would be the best bang for buck considering the 275 is a bit more expensive with not much gain.

Other than that there is not much you can do as there are others with better rigs suffering the same performance issues inc myself, we can only hope the next patch or 2 will bring some relief.

  16. HI Folks,

Currently Iam running one gtx280 OC2 (650Mhz) on my i7 system. I have

another GTX280 OC (615Mhz) in my media PC (overkill I know) , Iam thinking

of getting an el cheapo card for the media PC , then new SLI mobo + 1.2KW PSU and sticking both GTX280 in my PC.

Has anyone went from a single GTX280/285 to SLI configuration , and if so

what was the speed increase like and was it worth it ?

Costwise it will cost me at least £350 , so Iam a bit hesitant , any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

Well if your thinking of going SLI just purely for arma 2 then i would say its not worth it considering arma2 relies more on the CPU than it does the GPU, once the game is patched and the engine more optimized i would say 1 GTX 280 should be plenty.

On the other hand if you can afford to go SLI considering the psu alone will cost a pretty penny and your not doing it just for arma 2 then i say why not.

  17. I've been playing co-ops all weekend and I'm not sure what would make A2 "better" which is why I take issue with what you are saying. You think A2 could be "better", and as I've said, you are entitled to your opinion. I think A2 is one of the best games I have ever played (if not the best game of it's type that I have ever played, and that's including OFP) so I don't share your view that it has to be changed to "compete" with DR.

A2 has sold very well by all accounts and, like OFP and A1 before it, they were NOT aimed at the BF2 crowd which DR (under the deceptive title of OFP) very obviously is.

    Eth

I dont see why you or anyone else would think ofp2 is aimed at the bf2/cod crowd? I must admit to begin with it defintely seemed that way although after more info and trailers it actually seems quite the opposite. OFPDR doesnt allow run and guns as one bullet can end your game so that in itself steers DR away from the COD crowd and more toward the sim crowd.

On topic though i agree with almost every point made in the first post and can only hope the new patch brings us closer to the game arma2 was supposed to be. Due to its issues it has been sitting on the shelf for quite a while and until the majority of issues are rectified it will remain collecting dust.

  18. gotta agree

while this patch did fix a couple things (Manhattan issues) it made more problems for me

    - still can't finish the campaign due to the immortal issues

    - stability has fallen a lot. use to never have problems with save games now it seems that after playing 30mins, my save games become corrupt so i have to go through the files, delete the newest one and start again

    - frps seem to have also fallen quite a bit

    - missions i have already beaten play out strangely when i replay them now

    - is it me or can no one build beyond a light factory now? in badlands in 1.00 i was able to build tanks and even a heliport (tho i couldnt build choppers). now with 1.03 i can only build up to a light factory

was looking forward to this game so much and im noticing the dvd is starting to get shoved to the back of the desk more and more

egh....im gonna go play OFP lol

This happened to me aswell although the opfor could build the heavy factory so i was fighting against T72's and BMP's with only infantry and a few brdm's lol. I had to unpbo the mission files and edited it in my favour with cheap armour and all factories at my disposal.
