  1. THANKS for pointing out the OBVIOUS , of course its running before game starts

The PROBLEM comes with win xp 32 and ALT+TAB , using trackir software 4.1 37

Have you tried using the new 5.0 software? If that doesn't work, or if you'd prefer to use the 4.x software, you can contact our support dept. (support@naturalpoint.com) for more assistance.

    Cheers guys..

It looked like a local problem here but I had to ask before I went too far down the worm hole.

I'll keep pounding on it from this end as I really miss the TIR (talk about a loss of situational awareness).

I do have the S/W running prior to app launch and I have disabled/re-enabled TIR in ArmA2 controller setup a few times to no avail but thank you for the ideas.

It does help just knowing no one else is experiencing this issue so I know where to focus my efforts.

Thanks again for the feedback and if I resolve things I'll report back here.

    Enjoy...

    .

If you have Vista, make sure that the TrackIR software and Arma 2 are both running on the same permission level (normal vs. admin). That's one possible issue.

  2. yeah it wasnt enabled at default but ive got it goin now. ive noticed lean right and left doesnt work with trackir. is it possible to set up all 6 axis's to work?

If you are having trouble getting the lean to activate with the Default TrackIR profile, try creating a copy of the profile and then editing the X axis to be a bit more responsive. A couple of clicks on the green "up" arrow (again, on the X axis) should be sufficient.

This will allow you to lean less in real life in order to lean in the game.

  3. After doing a bit more Google searching, I found a suggestion to configure the TrackIR software to run as administrator and that did the trick. I do appreciate your taking the time to monitor this forum to resolve support issues, however - thanks!

Glad that you got it sorted out!

  4. The problem I have with my TIR5 is that the none of the mapped hot-keys are recognized in-game. If I Alt-Tab to the TrackIR control panel, I can use them - but as soon as I switch back to Arma2 it stops working. I've tried several, unique key-binds to no avail. I'm using the Steam version of Arma2, so I'm wondering if their overlay is interfering somehow. I'm using 5.0 beta B software. The "about" dialog shows 5.0.300 build 6225 however.

    5.0 Final (b) = 5.0.300 build 6225, just so you know.

Regarding the hotkey issue, do you have the hotkeys trapped in the TrackIR software?

  5. When I install the final version and do Games Update, the track IR software doesn't recognize Arma 2 (on Steam) anymore. I rolled back to the beta version and it works again.
    I noticed the same thing.

Unfortunately, there was a small snafu in uploading the final version of 5.0 from our internal build machine to the server. It's been fixed, as of about 2 hours ago. You'll find a "new" final on the downloads page, with this problem "re-fixed." Sorry for the inconvenience.

Also the bug i referred some pages back is still present! Its pissing me off!

Which bug is that? Have you contacted our tech support about it?

    -Seth

  6. ...Track IR 5 actually fried my motherboard, and I had to rebuild everything...

You might want to explore other possible causes, as it's impossible for TrackIR 5 to fry a MB. All ports are protected with power limiting chips and fuses. You could even directly short the connector and it should still be OK. Not to mention that the power TIR draws isn't severe enough to toast it. But, if you're still concerned that your TrackIR 5 is the cause of this problem, please feel free to contact us about getting it replaced. We'd be happy to test your current unit out and send you a new unit, so you can feel safe in using it with your new system.

Oh snap. Did you tell NP? Is this some sort of common problem or something?

I've never heard of this happening to any user in the last 8 years or so. I wouldn't worry too much about it. :)

  7. A profile i created and i am ( was ) using standard settings. I tried some settings, none worked.

Can you post screen shots of your profile settings as well as your camera view?

TBH, I'm having a difficult time actually seeing any instability in the head tracking. Between the video camera's movement and that graphics issue with the screen flickering, it's difficult to see what's actually happening to you in-game. But, I can't personally see any jittery head tracking. Perhaps a video in first-person view might demonstrate it better?

  8. Well, it is a TrackIr in ArmA 2 thread and not a headsest thread... :D

Are you using the TrackIR 5 oder the TrackIR 4 with the new software?

I might try out the new software with my TrackIR 4 but i don't expect any improvements to begin with. I was hoping to get rid of the head shaking bug that suddenly occurs from time to time independant of the environment. ( it does happen to disappear when i switch tasks and change the light filter and/or dot tracking settings ...or not. I still hope it's not broken for some unknown reason, i did break the neck of the bracket when it fell off the LCD. But i checked the internals and they were all fine afaik. No dust etc. Could it just be aging?

    Edit:

Loaded the newest software, runs in game. Still the same bug though. I'm starting to freak out...

I've uploaded a video to show what i happen to see.

This time it's the pitch axis. Most of the time it's yaw.

It's not just the edges. Sometimes it does that half way. Forgot to mention. This problem is really weird.

The problem is not OS related. I'll try updating USB drivers, but that should not be the problem either. When i'm in setup it doesn't do what it does in game.

I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for here. It looks like your GPU is geeking out a bit, perhaps because you've got FRAPS (or something similar) running (or so it appears, from the frame rate in the top corner). Being in third-person like this might make it harder for me to see what you're describing than if you were in first-person. In any event, I didn't see your character model's head shaking in that video. Did I miss something? Can you point me to the time in the video that it was shaking?

The flickering on the screen wouldn't be related to TrackIR, though for that I'd recommend a driver update for your GPU. :)

  9. First, for those with Windows 7 issues... in general, the TrackIR driver support is basically the same as for Vista, so fundamentally things should be fine. If you're running TrackIR in administrator mode, you also need to run ArmA 2 as an admin. It's not that you need to run TrackIR as an admin, but rather that you need to run it on the same permissions level as whatever game you're playing with. So, make sure that both pieces of software are in agreement on that--whether that's admin level or just standard.

If that's not the problem, is the TrackIR software recognizing ArmA 2 when it's loaded? The right green LED on the front of the camera will pop on when a game is connected. The title of that game will also pop up in the software, in the top information pane.

For those using the Beta 05 version of the 5.0 software... we made a tiny tweak in the core, as it relates to connecting to games, and it unfortunately broke upon public release! So, for the time being, please roll back to Beta 04. We should have a hotfix out for Beta 05 today or tomorrow, with a better long-term fix in a couple of weeks.

  10. Having problems here...Installed the 5er software for me Track IR 4 with Track Clip pro and it doesn't work in ArmA2. The green LED is on but the blue LED won't turn on as usual when i start the game. Hopefully when it will work ( with your help ) i don't have this recentering like i had parkinson.

What version of the TrackIR software are you running? (Look under "About TrackIR...")

Do you have the TrackClip PRO selected as the tracking target in the TrackIR software?

Have you run a games update in the TrackIR software?

Do you have TrackIR enabled in ArmA 2?

  11. Not trying to incite anything with the eBay comment. Just wanted to help! :) Some people have expressed consternation at the price of TrackIRs outside of the US, so I want to make sure that prospective customers are aware of the fact that there are some good deals out there. I do recommend that people purchase through an official dealer, because you're likely to get much better support from them than an eBay reseller. But, I have seen new TrackIR 5s going for pretty decent prices on eBay, so if you're price sensitive, live outside the US, and don't mind taking on the risk, it's a possibility. There are new units on eBay, so it's safe to assume that they were acquired from us in the not-too-distant past.

FYI, RC Simulations is a great dealer with fair prices, fantastic support, and a strong loyalty to sim markets. Can't go wrong with them!

  12. Oddly enough TIR 5 beta 4 software doesn't need to be Administrator to work with Arma 2 I've found. TIR 4 software does. I'm running Win 7 x64 btw.

    P

I think the primary issue is that TrackIR.exe and ArmA 2 need to be run on the same permission level. So, if one is being run on admin, the other should be. But, I don't think that TrackIR inherently needs to be run as an admin on any OS, in general.

  13. I've noticed a bit of confusion on these and other forums regarding TrackIR 3 support in ArmA 2. So, to clarify, TrackIR 3 is supported in ArmA 2, like ArmA before it. In order to interface with ArmA 2, TrackIR 3 owners need to make sure that they've upgraded to the newest version of the 4.x software and then run a games list update to include new titles like ArmA 2.

Confusion on this has likely arisen from the fact that, currently, our new 5.0 software does not yet support TrackIR 3. We're hoping to add support in down the line, but as of yet, the necessary development resources are otherwise allocated. But, it's important to note that both the 4.1.037 and 5.0 versions of software draw from the exact same software list. So, anyone that can use 4.1.037 (TrackIR 3, 4, and 5 users) will have access to all of the same games that users of 5.0 have. The primary differences between 4.1.037 and 5.0 are related to UI, profile management, etc.--not fundamental functionality.

Also, a quick comment on TrackIR 1 and 2. Some posters have pointed out that these units are no longer supported. This is partially true. All TrackIR 1 and 2 owners still have total access to all of the games that were available at their time of purchase (as well as the following several years worth). But, any games that require at least version 4.1.037 of our software (at the moment that would be ArmA 2, Black Shark, and HAWX) do not have TrackIR 1 or 2 support. There are a couple of reasons for this:

    - First, TrackIR 2 is now 7.5 years old. It has been out of development for around 5 years. The original TrackIR 2 user base, compared to 3, 4, and 5 users, is miniscule. And, the vast majority of those users have long since upgraded to a newer version. So, it is difficult for us to warrant freeing up developer resources, which are currently spread thin over three different product lines (TrackIR isn't all we do), to reinitiate support for a device that is 3 generations old, 7.5 years old, and has a very, very small user base.

    - The technology behind TrackIR 2 is now very old, and very inferior to what we're currently producing. Trying to grandfather it into our current interface would almost be like supporting a totally different product, as the "secret sauce", as it were, is so different from even TrackIR 3. This would be a monumental task.

    - TrackIR 2 used a significantly different API than TrackIR 3, 4, and 5. It was inferior in many ways, probably primarily in ease of developer implementation. We are not going to ask developers to develop and maintain two TrackIR APIs, so we obviously promote integration of the current API, which supports 99.5% of our user base.

I hope this clarifies the situation between ArmA 2 and TrackIR. Any TrackIR 1 or 2 owners that are feeling left out of the equation are more than welcome to email me. I'd be more than happy to cooperate with you on solving that problem.

  14. What other game uses the TrackIR in a way as good as for Arma 2? It looks cool for Arma2 but paying 150$ US for one game seems a lot and I don't plan to use many planes or choppers so it would only be used when I'm on foot... I don't know another game that allows the player to move his head like in Arma 2. Worth the money?

Additionally, if you know of a game that's in development, and you think it would be a great fit for TrackIR, let me know. I'm continually scouring for new games to match with TrackIR, but community involvement in this process is a tremendous help. I can't ever guarantee support, as the ultimate decision is in the hands of developers, but I can convey the wishes of the TrackIR community, as well as the selling points for head tracking in games.

  15. When I use the lean function with trackIR it doesnt lean much at all. Peeking around corners would be nice but now It seems rather useless. I know there is some settings in for this in the naturalpoint but I can't seem to get it right. Any suggestions? :)

On the Default profile the X axis is probably a little bit too unscaled out of the box for use with ArmA 2. You can tweak this easily in the TrackIR software. First, make a copy of the Default profile and name it whatever you want. Then, select the X axis on the Motion Adjustment curve for editing. Go to the green Curve arrows and bump the entire curve up (probably between 2-4 clicks should do it). That will scale up the X motion, so you should be able to lean without much trouble. If it's still not responsive enough, you can bump that curve up even more.

Hope this helps! You might also try the Smooth profile, which I believe has a more scaled X axis out of the box. But, it also has very light deadzones on pitch and yaw, and I prefer them to be heavier in a shooter like ArmA 2.

  16. Just got TrackIR 5 today :D

But can't get it to work in ArmA 2. not sure how.

I have no idea what im doing wrong but i just cant get my TIR 5 to work in arma 2, there are already presets for the track ir in the control settings so i thought just to 1 start track ir 2 start the game and ill be fine, DOH not. what am i doing wrong ?

Have you run a games update? ("Check for Game Updates..." in Application Options menu) If not, try that first. If that doesn't address it, I'd recommend emailing support@naturalpoint.com for more assistance.

All works good. But how do I make it less sensitive. So when I move close to screen in a SU-25 cockpit. I want it to be stable so I can fire.

You can reduce responsiveness and sensitivity by increasing the smoothing level. Alternately, you can reduce the scaling of the motion. If your "speed" setting is anywhere above 1, I'd try reducing that slightly before increasing smoothing too much.
