but still, calling ARMA2 is unplayable is a bit too much dont you think? There are tons of other issues.
It starts falling apart by the second mission. Here's a vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2klEgqI5rk. Later the campaign falls apart completely due to the sheer buggery.
I'm not sure about MP. Deathmatch seems to work fine, but my attempts to play COOP were frustrating to say the least.

Some people that keep coming with other games comparison should once, just once, ask themselves this question : these other games, despite claiming large environnement, never, ever, come close to the scale provided by BI engine (FC2 view distance, please?). It's not like they don't seem to want to, as they claim for large environnement, but they don't do it.Fallout 3 has comparable viewing distance to ArmA, and much better performance (Of course F3 is nowhere near as fun as ArmA)
Would you mind posting your Arma2 gfx settings, resolution: 1650x1080
viewing distance: 2km
fillrate: 87%
shadows: high
post-processing: low
everything else on normal
Computer:
Q6600 at 2.6ghz
4850 with 1gb vram
4gb system ram
20/20mbit connection
running windows XP
This gives me around 20-40fps in the campaign. Of course if I run the small island (whatsitcalled) in the editor I get 60fps.
Singleplayer performance is OK as far as I'm concerned. They shouldn't waste their time on it. Better would be if they concentrated on fixing some of the critical bugs.
Critical bugs? Well the AI is broken to say the least and multiplayer performance seems to be very poor (even running on a fast connection and near servers). Fixing this would go a long way to making the game enjoyable again. These are quite puzzling issues because ArmA with patches is mostly fine in this regard and after all ArmA 2 isn't a radically new concept. One wonders where things went wrong...

There's many more things going on under the hood of Arma 2 like tactical AI, vehicle physics, projectile physics etc.None of which are run on the graphics card.
I looked at the CPU graph, and it was used 60-70% per core, so the game logic obviously isn't a performance factor.

Must be a pretty awesome 3850!
I have a Q6600 (4x2.6ghz) and HD4850 with 1GB video ram and 4GB system ram running XP, and I get mostly 20-30fps on all normal, 2km VD and 89% fill rate at 1650x1080!
Increasing fillrate to 100% drops me to 10-20fps, and doesn't look as good to me anyway.
The experience when I'm 'looking around' seems to be really choppy, at least in towns, but the effect of motion blur helps mask this for the most part.
Here's how it looks.

I can tolerate the not-so-great performance, but look at the machine gun in this screenshot.
This is the buggiest computer game I have ever played. Some of the bugs are amusing like this machine gun, but many of them are really serious game-breaking bugs.

I am somewhat disappointed with the amount of bugs in ArmA 2 (even with beta patch). Did anyone actually play through the game? What were you thinking?
I've been trying to play the campaign for two days now but the amount (and variety) of bugs is simply incredible.
MP is very frustrating as well, mainly for two reasons: performance is abysmal even on the lowest settings (I have a Q6600 and HD4850) and the AI seems to have xray vision and superhuman aim.
In fact it's much worse than ArmA 1 with latest patches. I find this very puzzling since this isn't a radically new game, more like an upgrade. Did a different team develop ArmA 2?
I guess I'm being kind of negative. I did enjoy the first mission (which was mostly bug-free). The second mission (attacking the city) is pretty much ruined by the fact that your squad can see and reports on stuff that's on the other side of the city and obscured by 10s of houses. There's also nagging stuff like civilians not reacting when you shoot one of theirs, or your squad saying stuff like UNKNOWN PLANE, FAR. Yeah, the plane that dropped us off a minute ago. How about people that glow indoors? Or missing audio, or missing subtitles, or missing waypoints, etc.
I spent 40 euros on something that's unplayable. I feel that I deserve answers.

I guess it's possible. The language patch was just three pbos to replace. I'm not sure if that could trigger it.
Like I said, AI varies. Sometimes they're asleep, sometimes they're inhumanly aware and accurate. For obvious reasons the former is easier to vid than the latter :-)
