When are you buying Arma 3?

Invites cannot be activated immediately (1 week after alpha release or something like that? Check the www.arma3.com/buy for exact details/date :) )

    Arma 3 plans for 2013

You do understand that you also get the beta and full game when you buy the alpha pack? So basically you get a massive preorder bonus if you buy it now for 24,99 euro which is simply preordering the full final version but you get alpha access right away? You dont even have to play the alpha if you dont want to. Be my guest and pay 20 bucks more once it is released :)

Maybe change the "Alpha" bundle name on the buy page to "Regular edition" (or something like that) to avoid confusion. Now it seems that you buy the alpha (although the benefits below explain you get beta and full). But this might be easier and more intuitive: ALPHA LITE | REGULAR EDITION | DIGITAL DELUXE EDITION | SUPPORTER EDITION. And you also have continuity with using "edition" in all the bundles that eventually give full access.

    Development Blog & Reveals

The prices at the row "BETA" en "FULL GAME" are the prices you pay if you buy it during the beta, or if you buy it once it's finished. So if you want to buy it on 5 march you look at the first row, with the cheapest option for 24,99 euro, which gives you bundle extras of beta access and full game. So you buy (rights to) the full game, during the ALPHA PERIOD, for 24,99.

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

Although I think as a developer it is possible to provide an SP offline .exe (not requiring Steam or Steam offline mode), even though the game has integrated Steamworks. I'm no expert, but that is something Ground Branch plans to provide. Based on the dev blog is does not seem very likely that BIS will do this, but it seems it would be possible . No idea what the side effects would be development wise (for example if your game has to be essentially two games, one offline and one online release). DRM wise is not really an issue I think, because BIS always removed their active DRM ~6 months after release any way. Let's hope questions like this get answered in a future blog update.

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

While at home, before you go dirtbiking, make sure the game is up to date and launched at least once while you are online. After this you put Steam in offline mode and it will restart. From now on you can play Arma 3 in offline mode without an active internet connection. There are some talks going around that Steam requires you to go online again every 30 days, I haven't verified this. Anyhoo, Steam offline mode can be a bitch if you don't put it in offline mode correctly. Or if your game is in the middle of updating and you stopped the update etc. and went offline. In general offline mode works more or less, but there are some specific cases which create a problem (which IMO should finally be fixed by Valve :( ). But in general, you should have no issue while traveling interstate for dirtbiking if you make sure to put it in offline mode before you leave your home. EDIT: sorry mods for adding to the Steam discussion in the blog reveal thread

  10. Definately something to do with the ARG. If you check the profile of the CIA dude:
  11. Seems if you expand the Tweet there is a reply from some kind of "CIA" dude as well
  12. Searched on twitter for the hostname to see if something came up, and I found one tweet from someone called Phil Stöteknuel...? https://twitter.com/search?q=m26.node-42.rv4a3.org&src=typd

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

I like stats recording, this can be done with achievements as well (sort of). I like to know how many miles I walked, how many hours I played, how many hours I spent behind the wheel, how many hours I flew, etc. I just love those stats thingies!

According to BIS, multiple version was a huge drain on resources:

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

Usually you install the game from the dvd so you don't have to download the data via Steam. The installation will come with Steam requirement and you will need Steam in order to activate the key and launch the game AFAIK. This is in general the case with DVD's for Steam games IIRC. Before you can go into offline mode you first have to launch the game one time (usually). Usually Steam still has to run in the background, even when playing offline. Unless the developer offers a Steam free offline .exe (something Ground Branch has planned for example). There is no indication this will be the case for Arma 3. On the contrary, it seems like any general Steam offline mode game if you check the pre-emptive answers in the blog. I have no idea how this works. For some games it's possible to start a Steam game server via a commandline without running the whole Steam client like a consumer does (if memory servers well). Steam is a distribution platform and also includes developer tools to make things easy on the deveoper. It's up to the developer how to offer their product. Steam itself is totally free. Arma 3 will be sold as a game as far as we can tell, so once you have bought it you can use it for "free". Again: it's up to the developer to decide to add subscriptions or microtransactions, it's not something that is forced by Steam. Steam is just a platform to sell your game or incorporate certain Steamworks features as you like.
  16. To confirm, that is a valid business site build by JH as far as I know, I've visited it before. If that one got hit by actions trying solving the ARG that would be bad indeed. Hopefully this is not the case.

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

Here in Europe play.com is usually much cheaper. On release date get a PC game for 30 euros instead of 50 or 60 euros for the same game on the Steam store. it's not about the store front (but of course this is of importance), it's about steamworks and the accompanying features for both players and developers. The BIS storefront does not magically include the steamworks features. They will however still sell arma 3 at the BIS store (which will be for example just they steam key).

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

I see, for me this is not the case. I usually hate to buy a game from the steam store because other shops are usually much and much cheaper. I don't mind Steam in general that much, I do however hate the prices they tend to ask in their store (even if developers decide it). That's why it can be important for people to be able to buy it wherever they want (like you first stated), even though it requires Steam.

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

You still have a choice where to buy arma, it's not store exclusivity. It's just that steamworks will be an integral and required aspect of the game, which means you have to install and run Steam while playing, also if you buy it on DVD or from a different digital retailed tore like store.bistudio. ---------- Post added at 11:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:45 PM ---------- Depends if BIS implements VAC. It's up to the developer as far as I know.

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

That's why I said, in the post it is referring to, that 10% will probably not do it because of refusing to use steam for whatever game anyway.

If most of your favorite arma friends and/or communities are all playing arma 3 it's hard to keep refusing steam though.

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

wait till they see everybody play arma 3 including most of their arma 2 buddies, they see cool gameplay videos on youtube, etc. I bet 90% will still cave in, the other 10% probably have such an principal aversion to Steam they won't succumb, no matter what.

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

So now Arma 3 will become a gimmicky game for 14 year old kids, just because it will use some Steam(works) features? Please take a deep breath and come back to reality. Developers decide what they do and won't do on Steam. Because many arcade games are on Steam does not mean a military simulator cannot flourish as well. Heck, even Digital Combat Simulator is on Steam, as are other simulation games.
