I was too close yes, it was just primarily an experiment to test to AI that is why.
It would be cool if they went out and searched an area after they heard a noise, rather just instantly know where you are. Splinter cell games do a good job of that I must say.
anyway I still feel it could be adjusted

maybe there the genome soldiers from MGS, but they werent good enough for good ole snakehaha that made me chuckle!

Saw the vid, you were running. toward them. and close too. remember, they can hear your footsteps. try slow crawl next time. and be more patient. if you have to get there faster, try to use the time accelerator instead.Practice more. obviously what you did in the video didn't work
I shall try crawling etc, but honestly I have tried everything, tried going from every angle. they just seem to know exactly where I am and spot me.
remember this is supposed to be PITCH black at 01:00am at winter, you aint seeing **** unless you have night vision goggles.
Maybe the video didn't really portray the issue well enough, but I know for a fact they spot, shoot and kill me and a matter of seconds.:(

Hello Everyone!:p
Is anyone else having a problem sneaking up on enemies at all at night?
I play as a saboteur and walk, crouched very slowly towards a walking patrol who DO NOT have night vision goggles, and I am spotted and killed within minutes???
Can BI enlighten me on this please?
here is a video I made to show you what I mean

P.S I increased the brightness and Gamma for this video so people can see my character
BI PLEASE FIX THIS!

Hello everyone,
I'm a little disappointed with ARMA II even though there are many things I love
ie
- The new enhancements to the graphics engine
- improved tracer animations
- the sheer size of the island
- the new vehicles
- the improved sounds
BUT the one thing that needs to string it all together to be enjoyable is the old topic, Artificial Intelligence.
Now don't get me wrong, I know what Bohemia Interactive have achieved is astonishing but for me, the fact that the AI are very silly (especially in urban areas) and haven't seemed to improved at all really in terms of execution of movement, using cover etc. This really kills it for me as I get aggravated very quickly when playing.
I really want to enjoy this game to the max but there is something missing, and that something is a very clever AI.
Would it not be a good idea to build the AI first before anything else?
It feels like everything in the ARMA world is advancing at an amazing rate, but the AI are still trailing behind in the past??
P.S I do like the fact enemies now suppress you at distance, this is great.
Anyway, Bohemia you guys rock, but I really cannot play agaisnt/with a stupid AI

Also some applications like Chris' ArmA script editor: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=1455 have wizards that allow you to make briefings and add objectives very easily - not sure how applicable it is to ArmA2 though but it should give you a better idea of how to do it.
That program looks interesting, seems to cut out alot of the typing needed to create briefings from scratch.
Very useful
I have to say, creating a mission where you must infiltrate a base at night, without being spotted is very hard in ARMA 2. The enemy seems to see you all the time.
Anyways, im off to hit the hay. its 04:52 here lol.
Thank you for your help man..

Excellent stuff!
I think I have stumbled across some of these sites before, but it seems that there is a real lack of STEP 1 do this, STEP 2 etc etc
Il have a good old browse through these sites and see what I can gather!
It is definitely a daunting task, but I feel that no task is too big with patience.
Do you know anywhere that has information about creating objectives in the mission editor?
Really big help!
Thanks Mate

If you want to see the full animation its best to use playMove as switchMove can truncate an animation. Also using the disableAI "anim" command can lock the animation in its final phase once the animation has played out so if its taking a few seconds for the game to load the animation might have completed by the time the game starts thats why it doesn't appear to do anything except sit there. If you can you could write a simple script that will make the unit playMove/switch once the game has loaded eg after a 5 second sleep for instance.Ok cool, that sounds pretty simple.
The only thing is, I have no idea about scripting neither do I have any knowledge about it apart from some very basic commands which I have copied and pasted.
So sorry for the noob news. But I am willing to learn as I want to make great missions for this game as I can see massive potential.
The reason I wanted to execute these animations is because I wanted units to be sitting around a fire in a base, to give the mission some depth and imagination.
Do you know anywhere where I can learn how to script for this game (or learn the language)
Or a very good in depth tutorial or something
Thanks again! :o

Will do, thanks again!

Ok so the second one worked
''this switchMove "amovpsitmstpsraswrfldnon_smoking"; this disableAI "anim"'
hes not smoking, just sitting there with his weapon. thats normal I guess?
-
I tried using the one you gave me just to test, but nothing happened apart from the AI saying hello.
I am trying to use this command 'AmovPsitMstpSlowWrflDnon_Smoking' to make the player sit and smoke (extracted from the Murray's guide)
-
Wow that was quick!
I shall try that out. Thank you very much for your help
much appreciated

Dosent seem to do anything, the AI just stands there and says hello lol

Hello all!
Does anybody know how to get the animations listed in murrays guide to work in ARMA 2?
I have tried using Switchmove and Playmove in the init field of the unit but with no luck
Is that the correct way to do it?
thanks
Marcus:)

Hello Modders!
I am new to the editing side of ARMA and have no experience of scripting or anything more advanced than setting triggers for events and creating way points etc
I have just learnt how to trigger a radio command from HQ, but the text only comes up from ''crossroad'' which I believe is correct but there is no voice?
Does ARMA not use the same talking system as the command feature when ordering someone somewhere ie '' 1 go to soldier at 2 o clock''.
Basically what I want to do is set certain triggers at points in the mission where HQ announces where the LZ is to be picked up, but no sound.
DO I have to actually record myself saying the message then trigger it somehow within the editor?
I have searched the net and cannot find anything more than typing this into the activation box
[side,"HQ"] sideChat "Move to your position and wait for further orders!"
any help will be very much appreciated
Thanks
Marcus
