  1. Only if the bolt is in the forward position. The bolt catch holds it open after the last round of a magazine is fired so all thats required is to insert a new mag and release the catch.

Edit: A lot of times its shown in games as the player almost slapping the side of the rifle.

Edit2: Nice video showing it, this guy does it so fast you basically see one frame right after inserting the mag where hes hitting the catch.

  2. New video out that (shockingly) reveals a lot of stuff towards mil-sim look better than in A2:

Was also posted yesterday... I dont really see what youre referring to however... All I see is just superficial things like animations and admittedly quite gruesome gore. Or maybe im just blinded (still) by how unbelievably corny and face-palm worthy the last 20 seconds of the video is. And the 3 round burst sniping. Or the way the soldiers move like theyve filled their pants. Or the use of the charging handle when reloading the M4/16s.

I'll still probably check it out. The same way I checked out the COD family, BF family, etc, and got bored within weeks.... Whereas the REAL OFP family has been fairly constant for 8 years.

    Ugh....

  3. I bought a GTX285 last Friday (in a complete new system) and it took me quite some effort to decide if it wasn't the time to wait and switch for ATI.

Ultimately though right now most games run really nice on a GTX285 in 1920x1200, the ATI gets between 10% to 50% performance increase (depending how well the game and drivers are optimized) but at least here in Europe costs considerable more.

That price increase IMHO is just not worth it when it gets you from 40 to 55 FPS - what for?

Besides, unless you are running an overclocked i7-920 or better CPU, Arma2 will bottleneck you at avg. 30 frames in many missions (per the Pcgamerhardware bench). No point in spending on a card that does 60FPS then, rather I would set up visual quality as high as you can go with 30avg. I believe image quality will give you a better edge in combat than pure frame rate, since A2 isn't a twitch game, and he who spots first shoots first.

Although the Radeon 5850 does beat the GTX285 by a fair margin, quite noticeably in ArmA2 too... and it costs less. by 20%. oh well.

  4. just "working fine" isnt really enough for a PSU, at least I need to be confident that IF the PSU fails its not going to take the rest of the system down the shitter with it. And again, efficiency, over the course of a few years a high efficiency PSU will pay back the extra price margin above a cheap PSU many many times over. Although i guess its not a big deal for some if moms paying the electricity bill still.

  5. eh, im not sure what you mean about that amps "are king"... P=IV... Power(watts) = current(Amps) * voltage... they have a linear relationship. Saying a PSU can push out 2x as many amps on its 12V rail is the same thing as saying it can pump out 2x as many watts....

In addition, if possible look for a PSU that only has a single 12v rail, removes all the bullcrap with load balancing and "trapped" power.

The % efficiency of a PSU is of far more interest than most would probably think too, also in terms of how much money a good brand PSU which is ~10% more efficient would save over a crap-brand PSU.

  6. The spawn/despawn ability fixes some issues while creating others. For example if you create a mission with simultaneous battles in different locations, if you are flying a helicopter and want to fly from one location to the other, whats going to happen with the troops that are fighting after you left the first location? Will they just disappear? Shouldn't they continue fighting even though you are not next to them.

But the "virtual crew" is a well thought solution to the problem.

Isnt it kind of a moot point since you wont really be flying anywhere very far....

  7. Strange, i went from a C2D E6400 also, to a core i5 750 and my FPS skyrocketed. Well, ok, it improved a very substantial margin, with higher graphics settings. Radeon 4850 here though...

I remember reading threads with something about the i7 9x0's having performance issues in ArmA2 though... Have you disabled HT?

  8. Sounds like dragon rising will be right up your street then, it has none of those. As for a simulation, ALL of those things (except the armoury) are relevant. You see movement in the bushes, is it an enemy or is it a rabbit? You see someone walking towards your checkpoint, is it a civilian or is it a suicide bomber?

Very true. These things add greatly to the level of immersion. The flocks of birds that take off when they get disturbed by movement or gunfire, the goat that surprises you after you scale a cliff, the random civilians driving around and force you to think twice before just opening up and slaughtering everything thats not wearing the same uniform as you... I'm very very glad they were included before PEQ/Flashlights at least...

  9. Well, you know what they say. Opinions are like a**eholes....

Dont see which bit is "completely shit" though. FLIR/PEQ/Flashlights sounds like a nice start to the features that are being added..... although, im hoping for more accurate representations of the real fire control systems too.. would be nice to see more real tank FCS, as well as better aircraft systems, javelin, etc to go with that FLIR...
