Introducing Take On Helicopters by Bohemia Interactive
That guy replied to Placebo's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
For a lack of anywhere else to post this :D -
the US army already has some. i forget what its called, but it essentially looks like a fatter version of the PVS14 NV system with a tan case (instead of black). im not sure if they are in the process of deploying, already undergoing limited deployment or are still in the trial period.

Better hand grenade throwing abilities
That guy replied to igneous01's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
arma needs its grenade system overhauled. grenades need to be a selectable weapon, like side arms and launchers. if they are selectable rather than cycled with weapon firemodes, then it allows you to cycle what kind of granade you want to throw, and what kind of throw to use (using the same key as fire mode cycle) be it an underhand toss or overhand throw. also, for those of us you play with no cross hairs, i would like the strength gauge to be displayed. its hard to judge how strong you are throwing with out it -
it would be odd for BIS not to tell anyone that a new expansion/DLC is due for release. i would like some new official content though. though a new DLC could cover the events that lead to world war III as portrayed in ArmA III, sort of building up to the A3 release the article might have just made a mistake or said something wrong edit: maybe this "new release" is the mythical ArmAFree? thing

I am hoping that there will be an expansion of some kind detailing the main front-line conflict. why have this huge war and focus only on this tiny speck of an island? I want to see what BIS has in store story wise. i have my reservations about the l337 SF nature of the story, but BIS is good at making a fairly believable and well thought out scenario. but on the other hand, what could possibly be of such strategic importance that NATO diverts a large amount of its assets to a tiny speck of an island? is this just going to be some lame COD plot with dooms day weapons and evil little mini men? i just cant help but feel a little worried... but if the story falls flat, at least we get some nifty (and hopefully useful) engine improvements! regarding the economics, basically as soon as this war starts, everyone economy is going to crash, and crash hard. however, the US could replicate its WWII economic boom in manufacturing and such, and other countries might also be able to do so. i dont see any economic growth, just retooling. in a realistic scenario i could definitly see the standard of equipment going down. all those fancy toys get really, really expensive. in WW2 i would go out on a limb and say that a soldiers weapon was most expensive piece of gear to make. today not so much. of his gear the weapon is probably one of the cheapest (my source would be my hand receipts, if those figure were accurate). for example, an M4, around 500, a PEQ-2 ~1200, PEQ-15 ~1800, PVS-14 NVG ~3000, full body armor system ~500-1000, radios 50-1000, and so on (and not to mention how much more expensive the new munitions, vehicles, choppers computer systems etc are today) all players involved would be hard pressed to keep our current day standard of equipping. though it would be an interesting project to determine the GDP impact of, say manufacturing one MBT in 1944 USA, 2010 USA, and 2025 USA vs its actual industrial strain (cant think of a better word now) :p i could just be talking out of my ass here, as a country in a full wartime manufacturing economy coupld pump out abrams like they are shermans, and ZOMG LEET guns like M3 grease guns who knows, there are just way too many variables that we dont know about the game

well i got past that mission FINALY with out having to shoot anybody. i have a few things that irked me in a few missions though that i think you can improve on so yeah, i am not complaining about the difficulty as much as those damn cutscenes. please make them skippable, or have an auto save after them. i am only on mission 12 now, but the same suggestion will go for any other points of high difficulty after a mission cut scene further on in the campaign. it really kills the tension and atmosphere of the mission to have to do the same thing 10 times in a row with in the span of as many minuets. aside from that its a very good campaign and i look forward to completing it. edit: also, is it a bug or a feature that mission 12 ends as soon as you hit the ground, regardless of where you landed? my first try i landed in the water (LOL fail), but it advanced to the next mission, so i reverted and tried again landing with in a couple hundred meters of the drop zone, same thing. next try i just went strait down not making any adjustments, and same thing. so, bug or feature? or do you just have to hit that target dead on?

looks cool, ill give it a shot later today

sigh* i have yet to ever see a ragdoll that didnt look retarded or silly. they just never have any weight. also since most wounds are not instantly fatal in the real world people just dont "ragdoll" all the time. they fall down or crawl away or get carried away by comrades or something similar. yes in real life people die is some horrible or impossible poses and "configurations" but not all the damn time in game its all ragdoll all the time, it just makes it look retarded. it does not look like a horrible battlefield, it looks like (in someone else s humors words) a large scale yoga class :\

Customizable Soldier Load ( seriously?? )
That guy replied to sagitarius_2k's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
lets see, im a soldier and there is a huge freakin war going on i am issued a couple uniforms and equipment and then deployed to my AO. you fight with what you have, not what you want. if you are issued ACUs you have ACUs. like i said, i really hope what uniform is available is down to the mission designer to choose, not the player -
you are thing of modern COUNTER INSURGENT warfare, phase 4. this seems to be balls out force on force phase 3 warfare

Customizable Soldier Load ( seriously?? )
That guy replied to sagitarius_2k's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
i hope its going to be an option in the ME, a drop down menu for camo (desert, woodland) it opens it up for perhaps easier implementation of re skins for mods. you only need the small texture file instead of the whole damn addon for a simple retexture something like that i hope also im sure it will be mission depended. like it is today. some missions will let you choose 1 of 1000's of weapons, in A3 you might have the option to chose one of 1000 of weapons and a few camos in particular missions -
What just happened?? Game restarted with everything changed

ok then, im a bit stumped. if there is a back up of your profile then just try to copy paste it back in. i keep a backup copy of my profile, but that mostly because i changed the hell out of the key bindings and hate to change them if i have to reinstall edit: is it possible you started vanilla ArmA2 and not CO? -
hey guys, i could use some help. is it possible to beat mission 4 stealthily? i am having a lot of trouble with it. hell, one time they managed to spot me wile i was prone and immobile behind a wall. i heard footsteps, then "enemy man". few seconds later pelted with grenades. i have tried shooting but there are just too damn many of them. i never really had much problem with the A1 version but damn, they are kicking my ass this time around no AI mods and AI skills at 1.0 thanks for any tips

do you have multiple player profiles? if you have multiple profiles the game may have switched it back to your default one instead of the custom one thus deactivating mods and using the GFX options of that profile -
from a strategic point of view this is probably insignificant Al-Queda is a highly decentralized and (depending on the branch/region of operations) organized group. if UBL is taken down the next LT on the chain of command picks up the slack, if UBL even had any significant direct command and control to begin with after we broke them up as far as symbolic victory, got nuts :) just imagine the bragging rights to the trigger-man! imagine how insufferable that guy will be for the rest of his life! HA! LOL at Maturins comment :p so true

that was a good review there Phil. i also liked your retrospective piece on the Rainbow 6 (fall of) series. -
with steam patches take longer to get published, and some times you have to re-download the whole game when it does patch. someone who has steam can probably elaborate more to the best of my knowledge A2 retail and OA work fine together. if i were you i would just get OA and the 2 DLC (BAF and PMC)(pretty sure they are on steam sale as well)
-
try totally restarting the campaign in the mission select screen choose "start" and then "revert"
-
is this an SP mission or a campaign?
-
well done. overall i liked PMC (the last mission really is a treat IMO), but god damn aviation sucked :p

British Armed Forces Mission 3: Heat
That guy replied to casualowl's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
there are two mortar positions hidden in the mountains. the first one is in the first valley that you come across in the marked area (has a truck or something, the one you probably nuked) and a second well concealed position in the next valley. its in a clump of trees on low ground. don't remember specifics unfortunately, so sorry and that's also assuming the positions are not randomized also, last note, if you simply called an arty strike were it says "mortars" on the map, you missed, and wasted that attack -
VOTE SOB FOR PRES or he'll have you bombed :p but seriously, some military maps are not "precise" enough to be used for grid coords artillery or airsupport, so they say "not to be used for targeting" or something like that. its usually larger scale maps like the 1:250,000 or such

i have to think that "aviation" is the worst mission BIS has ever designed. it is a pain in the ass, especially for bad pilots like me until you realize that you are practically invulnerable (thank god!) the first time i played i flew like a responsible pilot. i orbited the village at a good speed and height waiting for my gunner to finish the enemies off for what ending up being around 40 mins. the AI is a terrible shot with that GL (it cant compensate for the movement of the chopper apparently), so you have to fly low and slow (or stop) so your gunner can make the shots. if your gunner is shooting flares? yeah check addons, unless you just mistaking the "thoomp thoomp" of the grenade launcher for flares... which i doubt...

man, i just watched that "first 15" vid (en). dont know really what to say. that bombastic in yourface text was just ridiculous. i mean yeah, infantry act and talk like that, but damn, that was just overdone. like way overdone and even in just the first 15 i already saw a few inconsistencies! i dont know marine lingo too well, but im pretty sure you dont use the full rank when addressing some one. (but cant marines refer to NCOs as sir? or has full metal jacket lied to me?) it sound both odd and demeaning to call some one or a higher rank that you by their full rank why hello staff sargent smith! eh..? what the hell is wrong with you? yes sargent first class! private, are you trying to piss me off? plus they call mr staff sargent both the squad leader and platoon sargent! what is he?! and when the mortars fall they say it comes from an abandoned village, then when they get there, "no civis around, baaad juju!" PLUS when driving SSG says the mortars have been falling for the past HOUR. it happened like a min ago! if i was in that squad i would be doing so many damn pushups. cannot stand soldiers who are that full of them selves. its really hard to follow some one you have no respect for, no? i mean the player character is playing a team leader, so he should be a sargent (E5). is this SSG really this disrespectful to a fellow NCO? really? without any sort of reason why? hes just a dick to be a dick? he is only one grade higher. id say i appreciate the attempt a infantry like banter, but i dont. its done rather... poorly, and make them look like idiots. so like you guys say, aimed squarely at those 13 year olds, or cod-tards definitely looks like a certain fish game we all like to look down on :p and no i will not rewrite this post to make it coherant. FPDR does not deserve it -
i did forget to answer your question about manufacturers. since like every gun company ever makes these things i dont know who makes "the best" one, and i am no enough on an AR15 connoisseur to know the details of each manufacturer. my AR is a Rock River arms, and its very good quality (i got it for around $800, m4 type configuration), my buddy have a couple colts and they are good guns as well (one of them is like 25 years old) so generally i dont think it matters what company its from, the "stock" rifles will probably be the same overall quality i would suggest look around on gunbroker, scope out what you want, price it and then check out a gun show.
