    ARMA 3, E3 Coverage (reveals)

    weapon modding: i know the action menu thing is just for demonstration purposes (they want to show that weapons can be modified in a quick and effecient manner), but this little "feature" has be a little worried. i am worried that there is a small chance that its implementation will not change. i really do not want BIS to keep this feature in mission. *dont get me wrong, weapon modding is great, but it needs to be in a sense able spot weapon modding is not something that happens in the field. all modifications need to be done in the briefing screens, not mid way through the mission. (same goes for the character customization).

    it was discussed at first reveal, and the CGI trailer does indicate that these tanks have some sort of counter measure system i really hope that system works :p

    poeple are not complaining that the OPFOR are now a threat, they are complaining that the the current model looks more at home in crysis or GRAW than say, the real world.

    so are those opfor models SF? like the modern equivalent of the ancient Persian "immortals"? are the basic soldiers going to be more modest? or better yet is there going to be more detailed info about the scenario, factions and story some time during the show? or are we going to be getting that info drip fed to us over the next 15 months :p edit: according to wikipidia there was a "modern" version of the immortals. so, maybe the islamic republic of iran fell, and a more secular govt (like reinstating the sha) took its place, and united much of the arab world under persian rule, allied with the chinese and somewhere along the line beat up israel and tooks its stuff. the bug eyed nano suit guys we see are the elite shock troops of the new persian army, and could be a throw back to the old times? something like that? :p

    yeah, that. i was ok with the near future, and some different things (because new things are good), but this seems kinda out there. we have seen units with the Iranian flag on their uniforms. ok current day Iran dosnt have alot of high tech gear. they have G3 Ak, steel helmets and what ever else (see the arma 2 Iranian forces mod). in THIS game they are armed with Isreali equipment and something outta ALIENS. WTH? the Iranians have thier own gear, they dont need or want Israels. of course, there is still SO much we dont know. we dont know the story that led us to this point. why are these Iranians using Israeli equipment? why do they have these bizarre sci fi exo-skeletons? what do those things do? why are they there? why is this silly little island so strategically important to the war effort? hell, we dont even know WHO the major actors are! we have "NATO", "OPFOR" and...? other? China? Russia? Finland? England? USA? Israel? Space Aliens from space? in another thread i was saying how such a severe war would hamper all parties involved making them lower their standards of equipping, but obviously that aint the case here. full everything I have no doubt the game mechanics will rock and the new engine will be amazing, but i will be installing a "authentic 2010 equipment" mod as soon as its available. i accepted the AK107 in A2 and less so the Mk16 in OA, but i dont know, if the current trends continue... what i want is just a plausible explanation for the whos, whats, whys and hows of this war. if BIS can justify why all this cool stuff is around then great, im on board.

    we as the community really do loose sight of what E3 (or any show for that matter) is for. its not for us. its for every one elce. i mean, just think if maruk made a post here simply staying "ArmA 3". our world would have been on fire. (pre ARG that is) i really wanted to see a in game trailer, not a CGI one. that little omission was just a shock

    so we dont have any more info about the game its self? more details about the scenario, the story or more details about engine improvements? i hope we see some of that in the next couple days i really, really hope you are right :) also i hope you cant change uniforms mid mission or take some ones uniform with out a realistic being a complete-pain-in-the-ass type thing, like it taking 5-10 mins

    yes, that is an iranian flag click i wonder if BIS is going to include some current modern iraninan gear, like the khyber 2000 assault rifle, or Zulfiqar tanks, or any other realistic gear... (really, what is up with those exo-skeletons?) after seeing the new screen shots, i am really looking forward to the ArmA3 2010 mod... (or ACE, what ever comes first) :butbut:

    a weapon rest feature is needed before any cover "system" in my mind. it maybe possible to implement them into the same thing. you move to an appropriate terrain feature, hit the "weapon rest", it snaps you to another animation behind or around the "cover" and a directional or stance change breaks it. none of the silly arcady glue back to surface stuff with 360ing out and head shoting instantly

    a BFH or B4F option wont really work for arma as its far too varied. there are no set maps, or mission types. i mean really, you can find "realistic" DM games, silly ones (like that one with the cloaking), organized tvt, CTFs, warfare games, domi games, evo, and hardcore coops and RPGs all right next to each other. its too much work really to get a "play now" button. its easier just to manually look through servers for what you want to play. also there are mods and addon restrictions too, forgot about those. AND difficulty options! those too!one reason i have not bothered with MP is almost every server is on regular! i hate regular! virtually no servers run on vet or higher! play now just wont work with with arma additionally having a "persistent character model" that you customize and use in MP just wont work because of said restrictions. you play what the mission maker wants, for better or worse (better in my opinion). im afraid im going to have to say it, but, go play BF or COD :p they do the drop in and play MP much better

    in iraq and afghanistan A LOT of people get arrested and detained. however, the events of a3 cover force on force warfare. not as much room for that sort of stuff. if he has a gun, shoot him.

    i have had an instance where, I the player, was affected by the pistol bug. i have never tried to reproduce it, but it seemed at the time, to stem from a conflict between what weapon was selected. the model and animation displayed were that of a pistol, but the game thought the rifle was active. the animation just locked up any one else ever had that happen before?

    i want to be popular too! almost makes CoD look subtle with its shenanigans and bullet proof riot shields at least there are not throwing knives! (i think) on its own terms it might actually be a fun game (some elements like cloak, see through walls and wall running can make game play interesting), but since it is suppose to be near future/modern day, its just WTF stupid looking. it sorta looks like battlefield heroes taking its self seriously:hmmm:

    nice, thats good to know. i certainly hope that he is talking about only the land portions of the map, and not including the water portions. with ArmA1 we got the idea of "its 400km2!" wile the actual island obviously occupied a small portion of that

    i wonder how many residents of the real limnos are aware their sleepy little island is going to be featured in an upcoming war-game? :p i have probably missed something, but do we have confirmation on the size of the ingame island? the real one has 477km but bis might have shrunk it down a bit...

    i dont want to sound like im jumping on the hate'n bandwagon, but smaller maps? did you really like shapur and proving grounds? i mean really, REALLY liked? i like those maps, but they are just so restrictive. so small for the ArmA3 expansion pack i want a 100,000 km2 chunk of Europe rendered for large scale force on force warfare. you know with shifting front lines and stuff. like WWII, but in the FUTURE! :p and yes i will have that when i have my 16GB Hexacore processor and 20TB of RAM :p

    ArmA3 scenario first look

    first off, the new arma 3 scenario both intrigues me and worries me. From the information we now have, the Europeans and the US are fighting a big ol' war. the enemies could possibly be the Chinese with Iranian help. NATO is apparently getting its ass kicked, and "being driven into the sea". The prospect for a large scale force on force all out war is an amazing prospect for a scenario reminiscent of the second world war. however, in game we are being relegated to a small island far from the apparent front lines, on a ZMOG SPESHUL FORRSEZ MISSON. This HUGELY disappoints me, but it somewhat makes scene from a technological point of view. current and near future technology will not be able to handle a 100,000km2 chunk of Europe to play out a progressive war on. (i personally no longer like "island" type maps, and have come to like the inland maps that give the illusion of being part of something much larger.) this sort of scenario also gives BIS and modders alot of room to expand the world and add in other armies and maps. I really want to see an expansion that focuses on the main front lines, with whole divisions maneuvering and such, with the chaos and confusion of being just a private in an apocalyptic war that will more than likely end all wars, or being a captain or fullbird Col trying desperately to hold onto a bit of land against a superior foe. the phase 3 war is just a much more appealing scenario than some SF mission gone wrong. but, i will buy it, and i'm sure i will love it all the same. :cool: The biggest irony here is this war happens in the future, with a bunch of new futury things. but if the war has been as devastating as they say and been going on for "years", its going to have a MAJOR economic impact on all players. the general quality of everything is going to go down. the quality of equipment and men as depleted countrys push men out onto the front as quickly as possible. many soldiers would be going to battle with out many of the things we have today, like body armor and big expensive toys like lasers, fancy reflex sights/acog and zomg cool gunz. in the case of the US, i can almost guarantee that we could not sustain our levels of proficiency and technology in such a war. its just far too costly not to mention how fucked up the European states are (having withered war and occupation) however, by the looks of it BIS are not going to take this factors into account, and everyone is going to have their best tech lined up all the time (and i might add, why the hell would the opfor deploy such a force on such a tiny island? they need that armor and close air on the front!). so wile im at it, is there going to be better simulation of infantry body armor? I am also quite interested in how the Russians are going to play a role. its possible the China Russian and Iran are all together, but i never though the Russians and Chinese had good enough relations to go to war on the same side. Perhaps Russia will be allied with the NATO counties? perhaps they will remain neutral? what do you all think? anything else to add? more insight?

    Arma 2: Namalsk Crisis

    another issue/bug report, this time mission 17 (aside from the mission design and execution :|) when the enemy BTRs are destoyed they "flicker" back and forth between the alive and destroyed state exploding constantly and perpetually (the model will physically switch). it just keeps exploding! they dont stop! i am not sure what sorcery is at work here, but the BTRs are also capable of taking multiple ATGM hits. if you just wanted them to stay still you could have just given each vic only a gunner also, my squad mates are very eager to target enemy buildings with their AT weapons. im pretty sure they are targeting buildings. i tried to capture a vid, but xfire isn't cooperating, sorry what difficulty settings and AI settings did you make this campaign for? what was it tested on?
  24. no, just no. please no. As a mod is just fine. preferable in fact. As soon as BIS does it, it becomes cannon, and suddenly there are friggin ZOMBIES in the real world. zombie type missions can be fun, but don't make them official :)
