    Are AA3 players tank shy?

Tanks were invented to make war more fun.. :) Could be rough times ahead.. But our boys will step up to the plate.. Abrams 120mm SABOT round
  2. I'm looking for a group that only plays in third-person view AND does insanely violent tank battles, I've zero interest in being an infantryman..:)

Arma 3 - APEX - NEWS and SPECULATIONS

I see Apex is scheduled for a Q2 2016 release and is available now on pre-order for 19.99 GB pounds (28 US dollars), but can I ask a stupid question- What's in it? The Tanoa map looks good but I'd like to know exactly what new weapons will be in it, for example any new tanks, or is it a secret?
  4. Hi guys, is there any way to put a "free camera" into games that we can issue High Command orders from as we move it around the battlefield? (I know we can put a "pure spectator-type" freecam in to watch the action while munching popcorn, but we can't issue orders from that type.)

Is there a freecam that we can issue orders from?

Thanks, and I like the way grenades can be aimed with the dotted arc to show where they'll go at 1:50 in the first vid..;)
  6. Hi, I've been reading up on Zeus and watching youtube vids but am still not sure if it's purely for multiplayer human vs human? I've got Arma3 and play against AI units in my home-made scenarios. If I get Zeus can I use it like an "eye in the sky" to order my own sides units around during the game while the AI units strut their own stuff under computer control?

Is Zeus purely for human vs human multiplay?

Thanks, in that case I gather it's a free download so I might as well have a crack at it..:)

Only up to a point. It's useful when zoomed out into the sky but is tethered to the commander like a kite on a string, you can pan it but you can't fly it around the whole battlefield. Also you can't zoom its 3D view (sniffle)

This game is too hard :(

Yes, the AA2/3 AI bots have always been too good, so follow these tips to improve your chances of staying alive as an infantryman- They can't kill you if they can't see you, so stay invisible behind solid cover like treetrunks, boulders, walls, buildings ground contours or in ditches etc, with no part of your head or body exposed or they'll shoot it off. If they saw you get into cover the bots might still shoot at you for a while but their bullets will simply splatter harmlessly off the hard cover. Forget about hiding behind bushes and shrubs because bots have x-ray vision and will soon spot you and will fire through the leaves to nail you. In the open, Go prone whenever possible because you'll be ten times harder to hit. Let the bots walk into your line of fire, don't you walk into theirs! As von Richthofen once said- "It is best if the customer comes to the shop". For example if a bot platoon is advancing towards you, stay behind a house and pick them off one by one as they come into view round the corner. Use "double tap" firing when you get an enemy in your rifle sights, meaning fire twice in quick succession BAM BAM a split second apart to double your chances of scoring a hit. Use your grenades, you can throw them over walls and buildings etc without exposing yourself. Use 3rd-person view most of the time which gives you a view from a few feet above and behind you for better situational awareness. Of course, if you're on the attacking side you can't stay in cover all the time but some of the above principles still apply, like putting hard cover between you and him during your advance. And if the time and situation allows, go prone and advance on your belly as much as possible to make yourself a small target. Tank combat also uses some of the above principles. On the attack I like to put all my tanks close together rather than disperse them all over the field:- "Punch with your fist, not with spread fingers"- Gen. Heinz Guderian. Finally, everybody has their own favourite way of playing so don't take my suggestions as gospel, all I know is that they work for me..:)

    Free Camera

I gather you can't issue High Command orders while in freecam view, or am I missing something?
  13. Hi guys, is there any way of putting a neutral "free camera" into games so that we can keep moving around the battlefield to view the action without getting shot at, AND issue High Command orders from it? I know we can create something like it with the Initialization line- this exec "camera.sqs" but no orders can be issued from it.
  14. Hi guys I've had Arma2 Combined Ops (AA2 and Arrowhead merged together) sitting on my PC for several years but have been sidetracked with other games (including AA3)- https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/165403-weapon-tests/ but AA2CO is my first love. Do you know if a Brit Challenger tank has been released for AA2CO while I've been away, as it was always a glaring omission, I've run a search but can't find one in the mods sections? Ukrainian units would be welcome too so we can simulate the Russia vs Ukraine conflict, or is that too much to hope for? What would be ideal is a concise easy-to read list of all current AA2CO mods (armour/softskins/infantry/maps etc) which I can run my finger down to browse for juicy items, but I can't seem to find such a listing.. Incidentally my AA2CO was installed from AA2 and Arrowhead disks (not Steam), and patched up to version 1.62.95248, is that the latest version, and if not where can I find patches/updates? Another thing- my desktop shortcut icon says "Arma2 Combined Operations", yet elsewhere it's called 'Arma2 Combat Operations', are they the same? PS- Have a lot of players emigrated to AA3 nowadays and is AA2 is losing its old popularity, what do you think?

Are there any Challenger tank and Ukrainian mods?

Thanks, I found a Challenger 1 which is not bad, but I really want a Chall 2, but the only one I've found seems to be incomplete or a WIP, so I'll keep looking.. :)

    ARMA 3 Addon Request Thread

Hi guys I've been away from Arma3 for about 8 months and am rusty so could I ask a couple of stupid questions- 1- can I import Arma2 units into Arma3? 2- If that's not possible are there any mods specifically made for Arma3, in particular the Challenger, Warrior, Abrams, Bradley, T-90, BMP2/3 and some Brit infantry etc? The list of Arma3 mods here runs to 44 pages and is difficult to read as some seem to be only works in progress or earlier obsolete versions, and others need to have some special pack pre-installed or something. I'm vanilla Arma3. Thanks

This game is too hard :(

Bullets don't go through hard cover like rocks or treetrunks or buildings or walls or ridges etc, so if you make sure parts of your anatomy are not sticking out they can't touch you. Bushes and shrubs are only soft cover and won't protect you because bullets go straight through the leaves. As for joining random servers, most run around like disorganised crackheads, so join a proper well-organised group instead..:)
  18. Sometimes-- but not always-- games I've created in the Editor run on past the endgame time which I set, and I can't understand why. For example here's a typical screenshot of a games End Trigger parameters in which I order it to end after 20 mins (1200 secs), but this one runs on for 30 minutes or more and still won't end! As usual, I drew a Trigger rectangle around a bunch of Opfor units on the start line so that the clock starts ticking when the game starts, but like I said, it ticks on well beyond 20 minutes. Does the screen look right to you, or is there something I've overlooked? Bug? Glitch? As I said, many of my other created games stop dead on 20 mins just fine, so I can't fathom why some run on longer!

Game won't end when it should

Thanks, I've changed my created scens to 'Countdown' and it seems to have done the trick.. :) PS- can you give me a link to an AA2 FAQ or whatever that answers every question I throw at it?
  20. Hi guys, when placing an infantry group of say 12 men on the map, and I want the group to have a 50% probability of appearing, do I have to select each individual man in turn and set his slider to 50%? This is a real time-consuming chore if I've got lots of groups, so is there a quicker way to give the whole group 50% "in bulk"?
  21. Thanks mate, I'll psyche myself up to have a crack at it..:)

  23. Hi, I just tried out the Mk17 EGLM RCO rifle in the Armoury at night, but I'm puzzled. The 1st and 3rd person views are fine (top 2 pics) because the guy is wearing NVG's, but as soon as he looks through the rifle sight (bottom pic) he loses his NVG's and the scope is near-useless because it can't see in the dark. Is that how the scope is supposed to be, or do I need to press a key to get scope night vision?

    Singleplayer, Multiplayer or Editor ?

I build all my own singleplayer missions in the editor and play them against the AI. I'd like to play vanilla AA3 and AA2 in multiplayer but can't find a server or group where I can just jump in and have fun making my little tanks and men run around shooting their guns. The only ones i've seen so far require me to install truckloads of mods and stuff before I can join in, but I'm too lazy to do that..;)

    It doesn't feel the same

I like Arma3, but I like dear old Arma2 (with Arrowhead) better for a couple of reasons- It's difficult to say exactly why, but Arma2 just FEELS right and looks right, and plays more comfortably. Arma2 lets us create missions with current vehicles and equipment that we see on the news, covering Syria, ISIS, Donetsk, Gaza and any other trouble spots, whereas Arma3 is set in the future with largely fictitious weaponry on a couple of Greek islands.
