  1. It's as easy as putting the saved JPG (named "face.JPG") in the arma documents folder :)

Problem I'm having is that servers won't accept my custom face so I'm walking around textureless :/

As for tutorials I suggest you start playing with Photoshops layers, opacity sliders, transform/scale and gum (eraser) tools.

  2. What does the pre render frames ahead do for you guys because it doesn't do anything here?

I used to set it to 0 with Oblivion, Gothic or other games with wide open areas but setting it to 8 seems crazy.

Also, setting AF higher then normal might take only a few FPS off but when you move left to right (aiming) you will notice a lot more lag. In other words upping AF does take a pretty big hit for smooth gameplay.

Object details is another one that can drop your FPS by a good amount.

  3. I have noticed that a lot of people with high end rigs up the object, terrain, AF and Post Process details but put the shadows on normal.

Although my 8800GT has to struggle sometimes with shadows on high there is a big difference between normal and high so I'm very surprised why you guys dont up the shadows and keep the other far less noticable options on normal.

    Normal:

    High:

    FPS with above view is:

    24 my settings

24 Textures on High (mine Very High)

    23 Aniso Very High (Normal)

    21 Terrain Very High (Normal)

19 Object Detail Very High (Normal)

    27 Shadows normal (High)

If I struggle a lot with FPS I bump the shadows to normal but I defenetly do not touch object details until a future patch ups the performance.

  4. Hi m8, Q6600@3Ghz / 4GB ram / 8800GT OC ed here

I find these settings best for quality/performance

    View Distance: 3000m

    Fillrate: 100%

    Texture and Video: Very High

    2D & 3D: 1680 x 1050

    AF: normal

    AA: Disabled

    Post Process: Disabled

    Terrain & Object detail: normal

Shadows: high (if FPS get too low I'll set this to normal but it looks so much better on high)

Latest Nvidia drivers, Win 7 x64

Best cooling and cheapest is Artic Accelero with a 12cm Fan zip tied to it.

Use Quality settings (not high quality) in Nvidia CP (use trillinear and aniso optimization, etc...) FORCE VSYNC OFF like with most high demanding games (use it for all the other games we max out)

My FPS average +40 so I still have some options to turn up if needed (and down if it starts to lag)

Good luck and post back with update

  5. Euh sounds like overheating issue m8, check your temps (everest)

I have no slowdowns with my Q6600@3Ghz/4GB/8800GTOC and play with these settings:

    Video and Texture: very high

    AF, Object and Terrain: normal

Shadows: high (normal boost FPS but looks bad compared to high)

Post Process disabled: who needs blurry textures a few feet away and blurs that make you dizzy and looks arcade-ish, not to mention the bloom that makes it look like a fantasy game :)

    AA disabled of course.

Res both on 1680 x1050 and View Dist at 3000

I'm running Win 7 x64 with latest Nvidia drivers, average FPS, 30-40.

  6. System specs

    CARD: 8800gt 512mb x2 (SLI)

CPU: Intel Q6600 quad 2.4gHz overcocked to 3.3gHz

    RAM: 2gb

OS: Win XP Pro sp3 32 bits

    Resolution: 1680 x 1050

    Drivers: 186.18

    Game Settings:

    View distance : 3300

All settings to high, except AF (very high) and post processing (very high)

    3d resolution : 133%

    Average fps: 30 - 40

Very nice, beats all the single cards out there so that means 8800GT still has some juice in SLI.

I only have one 8800GT and can manage these settings:

    View Distance: 3000

Normal AF, Object and Terrain detail

    High shadows, AA disabled, 1680 x 1050 2D/3D res

    PP disabled.

It's the best image quality/performance I can get with around the same average FPS. Shadows normal to high makes a hugh difference in Image Quality. Terrain and Object are minimal or only distance related and becaus eof the intense action barely noticeable.

Post Process is a no go for me, far too much bloom and DOF is too near (although I like DOF)

Blur is overdone wich make it feel like an arcade (crysis) game and not a military sim.

I still have to turn down the sahdow to normal now n then to smooth out the gameplay.

If future patches can let us up a notch for one or two options (like shadows) keeping the same FPS then that would be great.

    Later lads

  7. I'm sorry to say this m8 but don't blame this game (company) for a faulty Hardware/Software at your end.

Check screens from other users or review sites and you will notice this is not how the game looks like.

With these big screenshots its also almost impossible to have a proper view on them so please adjust them next time.

Your system is better then mine so start checking drivers etc because it is defenetly your end m8.

This might be a ram issue so I suggest you start searching for 8GB threads.

Good luck and post back with update.

  8. Hi m8, here goes:

Open map and set cursor to where you want, now press space, go communication, support, active support (or something) and confirm.

After that you will get a confirmation from the pilot.

This also works when pointing to a location with your weapon reticle.

What bugs me is that I'm trying to call for support to go look for Lopotev (or something) but no heli to be found!

I get a confirmation but he doesn't show up :/

This kills my timefrime so it's very anoying.

Anyway, have fun with the mission bud
