  1. Of course it runs ok m8, you have visibiltiy on 1600 and shadows disabled which is an eye candy killer. I even run shadows on Very High because there is no FPS loss compared to High. Normal vs high already is a world of difference graphicaly.

And with a rig like yours, ouch, better lower AA and up the other settings.

I also suggest you switch to XP or 7 because Vista seems to be the worst OS to run Arma 2 on.

Check my post for shadow comparison: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?p=1341161#post1341161

  2. Hmm, doesnt look to shabby

The game might stress the card too much. If you are running overclocked try running at default speeds.

I highly doubt this is software related m8. Corruption (artifacts) like this are usualy RAM related (mobo or vid)

Reboot is fine because you aren't running anything yet and system cools down fast.

Again, I think it's a stress factor. Good luck though m8!

  3. I played GRAW (top game btw) with Physx on my 8800GT and had no issues.

And I just tried and came to the conclusion Physx enabled performs better on my rig. Tested at the same spot multiple times and waited long enough for FPS to stay steady.

    Physx Enabled

So there you go m8. This shows that every system behaves differently.

  4. Snowwhite:

I cant find a "mip map" setting at all in the nvidia control panel. Has anyone else fixed this problem? What is -openal?

I'm not on my Windows install right now but it could be that it's a nHancer feature only.

I don't use the Nvidia CPL anymore anyway, better to use nHance m8 (more tweaks and better profile manager for games)

Good luck n post back with update ;)

  5. I can understand those who bought the gear to make this game run properly and can't even get smooth FPS.

As for the release then patch I think that is due to testing from us. No matter how many times you test software on different hardware there will always be some bugs, especialy with games like this (Arma, Gothic, Oblivion, Stalker, open world games) so its best to check user comments after the game has been released (at least I think that's the strategy)

Proper testing can be done with macs since there isn't a big variety in hardware like in windows.

If mac started to include games (im talking latest high end games) you would see the same thing happen on that front.

I'm running with far lower specs then most here but have had a very good time yesterday in MP (+3 hours or so straight)

The fact that most run without grass (and low View Distance) in MP games because of the AI sight is a nice welcome for us low end rigs.

Mind you that the game has bugs and can be anoying. As a matter of fact, my game was running ok (smooth but into low end when viewing red tress) until suddenly the connection chain icon popped up in red (probably a moment of disconnection) and after that the game paused every few frames so that it became unpossible for me to continue. Since I had a long session going I didnt mind it because I needed the break but I could have had other feelings about this in a different scenario.

I also experience the fire bug which is the first time I experience a huge bug like this and yesterday some of us noticed the flying tires bug so I'm at least glad I'm not alone and this will be fixed someday.

I still spend a lot more time playing then tweaking and all the other games I have installed are on hold so that says something about the game.

From what I've been seeying online (and all my testing with vid settings) I think if the red trees (and grass) would go the FPS would go up and more steady by a good amount.

Hopefully users won't start arguing about the dated GFX then since I play without grass and it still looks amazing, especialy the shadow/lightning engine and texture details.

  6. Alright lad, first of all disable the Post Processing to elminate that nasty BLUR effect that doesnt add to realism anyway.

Next tweak the head bobbing so that it only has a slight effect on your running or disable it alltogether (no head wobbles like that unless your drunk)

Keep your distance from the monitor like someone else said and take small brakes every hour (or half hour) to get a soda or something to eat.

Pause the game now and then to look at something else, just something to take your mind AND EYES off the screen.

I tend to get headaches when using the Post Process (BLUR) so you don't have to be an Epileptic to experience it.

Try to relax when playing, I know these sim games are bloody intense and it only works better if you feel like you're in the battlefield but do try to have fun and play at a slow pace (I snipe a lot instead of close combat so it's a lot less hectic)

If you already had a seizure then go see a doc no matter if you feel better or not!

I cannot do long sessions anymore because of musscle aches but I still enjoy a 1 or 2 hour session with Arma.

Take care and dont waste your health on gaming, it's defenetly not worth it in the end (you gain nothing by gaming so rather put more time in sports)

    Bye m8

  7. What you guys need to remember is that the FPS by itself doesnt say much.

You might have only -1 FPS by changing a setting but the lag is worse. It's more like the drag since its how fast the background render moves along with your mouse.

I find that when I think I'm getting the same or slightly lower FPS (by changing AF to higher setting for instance) I'm actualy having a harder time aiming which means the drag got worse.

I know these open world games tend to do that (Oblivion, Gothic, Stalker, etc)

The FPS might look the same but check the smoothness when moving/aiming, you'll know what I'm talking about when you start noticing it.

  8. No idea about the NVIDEA drivers but for NVIDIA use the latest officials. Others will tell you lower or higher drivers are better but remember that those will probably bring other issues and aren't future proof either.

The soon to be released ArmA v1.03 patch will probably be build based/optimized on the current official drivers for ATI & NVIDIA.

  9. Hi bud, same rig here but performance here isn't that bad. It's not great either but playable.

I'm just going to tell you my settings so you can try it yourself:

Res & Fillrate both set to 1680x1050

    Post Process DISABLED

    Shadow HIGH

    Terrain & Object detail MEDIUM

Video Memory & Texture detail VERY HIGH

    AA DISABLED

    View Distance at 3000m

The next time I will play I will try the "-maxmem=2047" command again (add to shortcut) and the new "-openal" which seems to fix even crashing issues for some.

Pre Render Frames Ahead set to 8 seems the magic number but I will have to test again since I got back to default 3 the other day (didnt notice anything spectaular in frames, even maybe a tad more lag)

I have set my LocalVram manualy in the .cfg file but it already was about the same figure so I guess the game recognized it properly.

I mayt be forgetting something but for now that should do for now.

Also, in MP, as much as I hate the GFX without it, I disable the grass but still put the view distance at 3000m.

    Good luck!

  10. PP adds blur, bloom and DOF.

Motion blur and probably object blur is Crysis (arcade) material which I can live without in a simulation game. I also get a headache from this so they should even put a warning for this on the box.

Like I said before if your vision blurs like that in real life you need cut the LSD.

Bloom is another Fantasy lightning effect that is slightly overdone but complements the sun.

Depth Of Field is the blurry textures you see and scope views. I love DOF but not in this game. In fact, there arent many games that use DOF the way it should be. I think its main purpose is to add dimension in a game.

I play with PP FX disabled because I dont like the arcade view and I need the frames with my rig.
