A lot of memory is great if the application/game can use it... unfortunatelly ARMA2 can only use < than 2GB.
It is good news that ARMA2 runs well on Win7 as I'll be upgrading to Win7 when it comes out. Had the beta and now RC on my HTPC and love it.

Just setting up my controls now, seems the mouse 4&5 double click works in the setup screen.
However in the game it does not. I have mouse 4 set to "leap over/jump" with 1 click, and to bring the "gear" menu up with 2 clicks. It only seems to jump... hmm.
EDIT: I've now assigned mouse 5 one click to "Look" and mouse 5 double click to "eject" from vehicles... tested the double click and it works.
So seems to be a problem with assigning "Gear" to double click or having "Leap over" assigned to that key!

Some interesting configs! It's surprising to see so many people using the mouse 4&5 (thumb) keys for voice/talking.
I guess the caps key is kind of awkward because it turns CAPS on... so this is a good idea if you talk a lot!
I'm also thinking about using them for "lean left" and "lean right" as the movement would be all on the mouse and it would free up those two keys on the keyboard.
Does anyone know if you can map the mouse keys 4&5 to double clicks or holds?

Hi,
Wondering what others have mapped their mouse buttons 4 & 5 to in the game.
I'm about to map mine and not really sure what to use! There are so many options which would be useful, in other games its quite easy because of their limited controls!
I'm thinking button 4 for "free view" to turn head and look around easily (instead of alt???) but I guess alt is easy to press so hmm.
5 could be for "step over/jump" as I find v a bit of a far reach!
Whats your mappings!

Hi,
I'm not having any problems with the game except for bad performance.
However I've been reading the forums here and I'm wondering how many of you have contacted BIS via the email which is given in the "Field manual" which comes with the game.
I know most people dont read manuals or just breifly look through... today I read the whole manual from start to finish, very informative!
On page 55 you can find infromation that is required when contacting BIS, and on page 56 you can find 505's direct technical support email on which to send this information and your bug report/problem.
The more bugs/logs/info gets sent to them the better, hopefully more bugs will be squashed!

I dont have any 5.1 sound either.
I have a basic system with a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 card, and Logitech X540 speakers.
Every game I have works in 5.1 without problems, ARMA2 does not!
It seems to be stuck on 2.1 which is very annoying in a game where you need directional awareness!

You should try "Frontlines: Fuel of War". I got this cheap on Steam and have actually enjoyed many hours of gameplay online.
I've never played BF but I heard its like that, but in the future. It's not a realistic fps but it is FUN!

Moved to the OFP2 team? They dont work together and I'm pretty sure BIS would want to release a few patches before OFP2 otherwise they will lose a lot of players with the current state of ARMA2 if its not fixed on October 8th.

nuxes and choc's results on page 48 show just how CPU limited this game is.... nuxes has a much more powerful video card yet gets much much lower marks/fps.
Choc has a fast CPU and is running higher settins.. still gets higher results!

Thanks for the tip... I guess that would need to be used if the mission does not end after completing all the objectives?

There seems to be some problems with the 200 series of cards I think.
My friend noticed a 50% improvement in the demo running in SLI vs single card.
Core2Duo 4ghz, 2GB DDR1066, 8800GT SLI.
However my friend with two GTX280 in SLI got less than 10% improvement with SLI.
Q6600 @ 3.4ghz, 4GB DDR1066 GTX280 SLI
I have to admit the point made above about Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising... its only about 2 or 3 months away and if it runs fast, has similar features to ARMA2... I think it will take many people away.

Thanks for the links and suggestions, great to know!
I run Rivatuner 24/7 so can see the FPS but just wanted to bench my friends PC as he is/was getting very low fps compared to me with a much faster machine.

Interesting machine specs BIS use... Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP2 32bit?

Having not played the SP campaign yet, what is actually wrong in it?
I've heard many bad things... is it the slowness I've heard about or just lots of bugs? or both?
I'm planning on playing with two other friends, how many people are supported in the campaign in coop? 2 or 3/4?
Thanks,

Going by the results above... the AA and Post Processing settings have a huge impact on performance (GPU/CPU). In my opinion I prefer the game with higher settings and no AA / Post Processing, I also get better FPS/Mark with this!
So turn that AA off and Post Processing!

Why is there no benchmark in the full version, I've heard that Arma mark is not accurate.

Hi,
I have a friend who is getting very low FPS in the demo, 22fps even on low settings.
He has purchased the full game but would like to see if it has fixed anything... but there is no benchmark like in the demo.
Anyone know how to unlock it?
His rig:
Q6600 @ 3.4ghz
4GB DDR2 1066
GTX280 SLI overlocked
190.38 driver
Vista 64Bit
The system is otherwise fine and runs most games maxed out.
EDIT: Would just like to add that my older/weaker machine runs the game at 38fps in the Demo benchmark with a mixture of Very High settings and no AA/post precessing. (E6420 @ 3.5ghz, 4GB DDR800, 8800GTX).

The tank looks fine, not destroyed in those pics?
Btw those pics hurt my eyes... look so bad! Is that low settings?

The GTX285 will be about 80% faster than the 8800GT, and in some cases even more as it has extra 512mb of VRAM and faster bus!
The E8500 @ 3.1ghz will be enough to handle the GTX285 without bottlenecking in most games. However in ARMA2 in my opinion the CPU is more important unless you run very high settings.
I would do some research into overclocking as its VERY EASY and you can easily hit 4ghz if your motherboard is ok. You will see more improvement from the overclock than from the video card in ARMA2 I think.

First it has to weaken the force field and then it can hit the armour!

In my opinion the game is more CPU limited, for sure.
Here is my logic (although not 100% perfect!). If your in the editor and running around without any AI/battles/scripts/waypoints the FPS is very fast... 50+.
However when in multiplayer with many AI running around or towns... the fps drops A LOT.
Now if the GPU was the problem it would also be the problem in the editor... I have monitored my CPU usage and its always at 95% to 100%.
My system is 8800GTX + Core2Duo @ 3.5ghz which is a fast dual core cpu.
Also my GPU is usually relaxing when the CPU is maxed out (28 to 32fps) and I can tell this by the temp, usually 72deg compared to 78 or 80deg when in EDITOR.
Overall I say this game needs a fast CPU over a fast GPU, because my 8800GTX is an old card and still pulls 40+ fps maxed out (no aa) in the editor. My CPU is fast and still struggles.
I would suggest you upgrade to a newer system, the video upgrade will give you a boost but it wont be enough in the Towns and with lots of AI.

I did a few tests in the DEMO and did not see any improvement between 186.18 and 190.38... same fps on an 8800GTX.
Later I installed the full version of the game and I have to say it seems "smoother" than the demo... maybe I havent gone into any towns yet but it was running at about 35 to 45fps on Very High settings in chenarous....

Hi,
Just installed my copy of ARMA2 and I'm setting it up to match the demo after a lot of tweaking with that.
In the demo I could set the AA settings, disabled, low, med, high and then numbers.... etc.
However in the full game (patched to 1.02) it wont let me make any changes and says "Antialiasing: Disabled"....
Whats the deal here?!?!

Game crashing in Campaign (Video Memory problem)
in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Posted · Edited by Yapab
Hi,
Just had about 3 crashes within 1 hour in the campaign (first mission).
What happens is that the graphics get corrupted and many strange textures are loaded... basically looks like graphic corruption/texture overload.
I run Rivatuner 24/7 and monitor the GPU on my second monitor always.
When this "crash" happens, the Video Memory in use jumps from 687 to 725+.
I have an 8800GTX with 768mb of memory, I have set the Video Memory in the options to "Very High".
I have played over 10 hours of ARMA2 in multiplayer/armoury etc.. without 1 crash.
Its strange that this happens only when in campaign, in any other mode the memory stays at a normal 682~ mb usage and the game runs fine.
Also, I can save the crash by alt-tabbing QUICKLY into desktop, then alt-tabbing back into game... after this the game runs fine again for about 10 or 15 minutes until the memory reaches 725 and the crash occurs again.
What values are the Video memory settings in the options assigned to? I'm going to try "High" but I hope it does not produce other problems, such as slow texture loading as described in other threads.
The problem seems to be a video memory leak, where the game will use more than is available and textures overload.
