Dont know why people are expecting a performance improvement when there is only 1 line suggesting optimisation in the patch details.
This patch was not about performance, but about getting some of the gameplay fixed and campaign issues.
I would also love a performance patch but didnt expect to see any improvement in 1.03.

Is it true that another form of Warfare is yet to be released by BIS in a patch?
On another forum a die hard ARMA fan says that the real warfare has not been released yet....?

Hmm yeh I guess it would require changes to the engine for dual display output... it was good in Supreme Commander.

I wonder if it would be possible to bring up the Map on the 2nd monitor? This would be so handy for commanding units etc?

ok been playing on sahrani for past hour or so, i can't believe how well it runs.so yeah, does this mean that the cheranus map is just poorly designed and thats the reason for all these poor frame rates so many moan about ?
I think it runs so well because its a lot more "basic" than cheranus.... I looked at the youtube videos and it does look a lot more basic and empty than cheranus.
Hopefully they can optimise cheranus a bit more and give us a few extra fps :)

Yes it only happens after "resuming" a previously suspended (saved) coop campaign.
This is not an FPS issue or lag/connection issue... as the problem disappears if we "revert" / restart the mission.

Ahhh I see... so there is no miracle way that ARMA2 map could one day run like this :)
The performance is pretty average in ARMA2, but Id rather play at 25 fps than on an empty non atmospheric map :)
Quite interesting though!

Does anyone know what the new version of Trees will be that Ohara is working on?
He says this in his profile and its dated 15/07/09 so pretty recent! I wonder if this new version of "trees" will give us performance improvements and other features?

Why would ARMA2 run so great on the old island?
When you run the old island, does it still use the ARMA2 AI, pathfinding, microAI features?

Hi,
Me and a friend have played the first 4 missions/scenarios of the campaign and have encountered a saving/loading bug in the 4th mission.
My friend hosts and when he resumes a saved coop game, it loads and i can join but on my screen I get an error. The error reads:
"ERROR: MPF_rCREATETASKSET calls fails - BIS_missionScope is nil"
I also get no notes/mission details in the "map view"... so my friend has to read out the mission and details so I can follow the story and whats going on.
This problem was no present in the previous missions, however we did not try to save/resume a game as the missions were shorter.
Thanks,
Yapa

We tried to play on with the error, and I've noticed there are no tasks either... apart from some script names in the task list!
When playing on, the game lagged badly... unplayable.

Ok just thought I'd update this thread with more info and a video showing what is actually happening (videos speak a million words?).
Basically these are the problems with "resuming" coop saved games.
1) No notes in map view
2) No tasks in map view
3) No markers in map view (such as the red markers given by CDF leader)
4) Error which is shown in my top post
5) Game lagging or "Jumping" from place to place for the client (host is fine).
I have a video of problem #5, if it wasnt for this I could probably play on without the tasks and markers... but this "jumping" makes it unplayable.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEW4UuIlJnE
I would also like to say that this is NOT lag related, we get a 40 ping or lower to each other. Also, after "reverting" the game, we can play without any lag... but once we "resume" the game it starts to do this jumping catchup!
Anyone else who is playing thru the campaign in coop please post any problems you have seen so the dev's can hopefully see this thread and possibly fix some of the issues.
The game and story is amazing, I love the 4th level...
EDIT - I would like to add that my friend IS driving in a straight line along the road... he is NOT driving in circles etc... this is what is happening when he is driving normally on the road!

Even if you set the game to never update on Steam, once you start the game it will automatically update... I've had this happen in 3 games including Stalker Clear Sky.
I specifically told Steam NOT to update Stalker CS and it updated as soon as I wanted to play the game...

It will open your ports up automatically when a device/game requires it.

Turn of any software firewalls you have, including windows firewall.
Turn off your hardware/router firewall and setup a static IP.
Turn DMZ off and portforward the above mentioned ports for TCP and UDP.
Disabled hamachi network service if you have it installed.

Ginger_Mcale, if you have an Nvidia card download the latest 193.38 WHQL drivers and set your video memory on "Very High" and Texture Detail on "Normal" in game and that should help somewhat.
if you have ATI you will probably need to wait for newer drivers after 9.7....

The GPU can make a difference if your CPU is at 4ghz or more...
-
The game is mainly CPU limited... a fast GPU does make a difference however there seems to be a problem where the CPU gets maxed out when you put some of the Video settings up high.
Hopefully fixed in a patch or two!

The reason they wont release beta patches on Steam is because the Steam system forces you to update your game when you load it... and since its a "beta" patch they do not want everyone to have it.
Yes this "beta" patch might be like a real patch, but its still a "beta".
This is why I waited 2 weeks and purchased the 505 DVD version... I love steam and have over 30 games in it, but there are some games which I just wont purchase on Steam.... Stalker series and ARMA series are such games as they DO require patches.

Thanks for the updated info!
To me it sounds like Ohara is saying they will be releasing unofficial "beta" patches before releasing official patches to the public.
So for example, we are now waiting on 1.03 and when it comes it will be a tested and official patch available and mirrored everywhere.
But with 1.04 it could be that we get something called "1.04_beta1" which will be available on the forums here and maybe only on BIS website. The hardcore fans will download it (and most likely everyone else!) and report any bugs and improvements needed.
These will be fixed or taken into consideration and applied to an official 1.04 patch.
Thats what I think they mean, but I could be wrong.

Hopefully it fixes some of the big game stoppers, but I think it will take 3 or 4 patches to get things running smoothly in all aspects (mp, campaign, editor).
When is Warfare mode due to come out?

I'm pretty sure you can, we did it in multiplayer in the demo and I've done it in the Editor in Utes.
Basically you tell the unit to move to the position above the ladder, then they should climb there and snipe/observe.
We placed an AI sniper in a tower and he was great.. actually saved us heaps!

I hope its a great game, the more the better!
Hopefully the "red lines" indicating the enemy position can be enabled/disabled and hopefully only for console!

Well I played around using the editor in the big city on the coast....
Same test as the ATI guys in that thread... basically putting myself in a chopper above the city and looking around/zooming... to load textures fast.
On Very High with Texture Detail on Normal, the maximum memory usage will be 682mb.
On Normal this will be 525mb, while on Low it will be no more than 432mb.
The funny thing is that putting it on "default" uses up to 774mb of memory! My card only has 768mb and this kills the performance as the system memory is now being accessed which is of course much slower.
So I guess the "default" setting looks at how much memory is available and tries to match it but seems to go a bit over.. memory leak?
All this does not fix the problem in the campaign, as in the editor even though the memory went to 774 it did not crash/artifact!
Wishing for a patch or two...
Yapa
-
Wish there was more information on the Video Memory setting, like what does Very High mean? 1GB? and is high 512 or 768? or 896 etc.........
I just tried "Default" and its using 774 but has not crashed ... also why would it crash only in the campaign and NOT in multiplayer, not in armoury and NOT in Editor!
Argh!!!!!!!!!
-
I will try with "High" setting, then Normal and Low if that is required.
Pretty shocking how many problems people are having in that ATI thread.

BCA Cat Toaster, if I were you i'd be hoping that no one saw your posted registry key and now has a key to your game....
And to the BIS Dev's, well done on the patch and thanks for fixing so many things.
I think people have to understand that developing for the PC platform is VERY HARD... there are literally thousands of configurations and differences which have to be accounted for.
At least BIS are patching and releasing patches quickly, before long we wont have games like ARMA2 on PC... we might not have any games on PC.
