  1. Well it wont include everything in ARMA2, the campaign for example and some of the missions! Also some of the bugs on the original cd ;)

Come on people this is great news, it means BIS is commited to making more ARMA games for us to play, and commited to fixing ARMA2.

I think it has to be repeated in caps that THIS EXPANSION WILL NOT STOP ARMA2 PATCHES FROM BEING RELEASED!

So basically if this expansion was not coming out, you would be getting patches to fix issues and make ARMA2 better, NOW you will get those patches and an expansion too :)

  2. It's true that at first (befor epatch 1.03) there was a bit of silence and people were getting frustrated because of the bugs in 1.02 and not knowing when they would be fixed.

But since 1.03 the dev feedback has been great, this thread is an example of this!

There is also the community update thread which is very refreshing. One of those every month and I'm sure most would be satisfied.

  3. I hope this also doesn't prevent regular patches out for ARMA2 in the mean time, that would be sad.

In the "Community Update" thread Placebo says that they hope to be releasing patches quicker than 1.03 and earlier in this thread ohara confired that most fixes in the expansion will be patched into ARMA2!

So I dont think we have anything to fear, this is all good news.

  4. @Grub

I'm not the best person to answer you as I've only played Operation Flashpoint back in 2001 and now ARMA2 (never knew about ARMA1) .... BUT I can say three things:

    1) Patch 1.03 has fixed many issues in the campaign for me, and you can be sure that future patches will fix more problems, BIS are committed to the game.

    2) I have had very little problems with the game itself, yes there are campaign mission errors in 1.03 still but overall the game to me is 80% polished and I've had 0 crashes, in over 10 hours of gameplay.

    3) When you order that new machine, make sure you get a FAST cpu which you will be able to overclock to at least 3.5ghz... for example the i7. THe game is very CPU intensive and the more cores and ghz you have the better. I find its only moderately GPU intensive at 22" resolution.

  5. I think it does support multi-gpu quite ok... with a patch from ATI and Nvidia.

The latest Nvidia drivers enable SLI without any hacks... and on my friends 8800GT SLI setup it helped by about 50% on a E8400 @ 4ghz.

The problem is the game is very CPU limited, and any cpu lower than 3ghz is really not enough for the game and the GPU's are actually relaxing, even 1 will be relaxing.

    This game requires 3.5ghz or 4ghz cpu's....

One thing thats a bit disappointing is that Quad Cores only give a slight improvement, it seems the game uses all 4 cores but they are only utilised about 60% each... or less.

A friend with a Q6600 @ 3.4ghz sees on average about 65% total CPU usage, that is with twi GTX280's in SLI... which should be plenty of GPU power at Normal/High settings.

  6. if my strategy was as follows:

    ARMA1 released...wait...ARMA2 released...go buy/play ARMA1 have fun...ARMA3 released...go buy/play ARMA2 have fun!

hehe yes a bit sad but true, hopefully future versions run much smoother when they are released! I was tempted to hunt around for ARMA1 but the graphics were a bit dated by todays standards and I was about to leave on a long trip overseas.

  7. Just do what I do: check all the devs' postcounts. If they go up, find their latest posts.

hahhaah this is actually what I do! I see there is another Stalker here :)

This thread, arrowhead thread and marketing thread are currently very active with posts and replies from dev's ohara, planck!

  8. Finally wouldn't a standalone expansion devide the community? People who have only the expansion and people who only has ARMA2...

This is a good question, and I guess it really depends on how much different the engine will be to the vanilla ARMA2 engine.

For example, will Arrowhead players be able to play with ARMA2 players in multiplayer... well maybe they wont as the maps will be different? the locations will be different?

I guess there is heaps of info to find out in the coming weeks!

  9. Yeah I missed out on the ARMA1 release completely and have no idea how that happened. I didn't discover ARMA1 was out until around 1.08 release which is actually kind of a good thing cause at least i saw it at a somewhat mature state.

I was quite shocked by this too, i really wanted to play it but with so little time and with ARMA2 just around the corner I only tried the demo... which was version 1.06 and ren very very badly!

I was later told that the full game runs much better and after reading some patch notes I was happy that ARMA2 would be good too.

I think BIS did well with ARMA2, as the above poster says... it was top 10 on Steam for quite a while. Also steam is good advertising!

  10. Lets not forget that BIS also released a DEMO of ARMA2 quite a bit before the game was released... this was great and I bet it helped to sell a lot of copies.

It made people aware... why? Because demos are mirrored on thousands of gamer websites world wide! The demo was also very good, it had hours of gameplay!

In saying that, yes the normal type of advertising in magazines and reviews could have been better. I actually found out about ARMA2 through OPF2... after getting exicted about OPF2 announcement I did some forum reading and this lead me to ARMA2.

I never knew about ARMA1 which is sad... because I still have my copy of Operation Flashpoint here and loved the game back in 2001? I guess I never knew about ARMA1 because of 1) low advertising / marketing, 2) the name change and 3) I was out of gaming for a few years and into performance cars :)

  11. Placebo and ohara regularly post on the forums with info, help and other info!

I think this is great, thank you ohara for reassuring us that ARMA2 vanilla will still get all the improvements and features that the expansion will get.

Also, we are all different players.... some like campaign/story and some like only multi player/editor.

I'm a campaign / story player and I love coop... so this is great news to me.

  12. A

Codemaster is just using the trademark to sell something like a bad copy of BI products.

Yes they are using the name to make sales and get people interested, but I dont agree about the "bad copy".... I hope the game is great and provides us with many hours of fun gameplay.

Were all gamers and the more games the better... I also think a bit of competition is a good thing :)

I have to say I like how OPF2 is going with a more squad / GRAW based approach to the campaign. I'm not a huge fan of controlling over 5 guys and tanks/planes etc... but I guess a lot of people do like that and thats why ARMA2 has this in the campaign later on.

  13. Woah this is GREAT news!

I just posted in another thread about how I would love to see an expansion for ARMA2 which would hopefully enhance the game and offer more of the campaign but possibly at a lower price as its not a fully new game!

I just hope they still support ARMA2 as that has a lot of meat left in it.

It is strange how fast they announced the expansion after the release of ARMA2, I wonder why? Most expansions dont happen until a few months after the original.

As for the setting in the desert? Well at least it will perform faster without those nasty slowdowns that linda gives us :)

  14. I dont fully agree here, I saw many videos and diaries about ARMA2 before its release.. on their website they had updates and lots of info coming out every few weeks.

Advertising costs A LOT OF MONEY and you cannot compare BIS budget to CM budget... CM is huge... even if they release a new IP game they will still get lots of attention because casual gamers know they make good games.

BIS makes good games, but less of them and more ninche games, so they arent as well known.

Also lets not forget that CM have the "Operation Flashpoint" name which is a big thing... most people remember Operation Flashpoint and see OPFLASH2 as the true sequel.

I do agree more advertising would do the game good, but I dont think BIS could afford it, maybe then will for ARMA3 if it ever comes out?

  15. Thanks for the info and update on patch 1.04 and whats happening with you guys!

I love the game, its a true PC game and you really have gone far above what other FPS games have in recent years.

Yes there are bugs but overall I've enjoyed many hours already with friends in the campaign coop... honestly this is one of the best executed coop campaign modes in a FPS game.

The story, cut scenes, videos are all synced across every player in the coop, unlike other games which simply give you a lobby screen and you have to select which "sp" mission to play together.

Also we are only up to mission 4 and its amazing what you have done, being able to play freely and look for these guys the way we want (bikes, hummers, choppers) is just awesome!

Thanks for the update, looking forward to performance improvements as I feel the game could run quite a bit faster once optimised, otherwise I have almost no bugs to report apart from no 5.1 surround (every other game works) and funny bug of Razor team killing us if we accidentally shoot an friendly soldier in the field :)

Keep up the good work, it would be good to see an ARMA2 campaign mission / expansion that would be available for purchase, Id buy it for sure! (just like warhead was for crysis, shorter game but also cheap and good)

  16. BCA Cat Toaster, how many times have you re-installed the game? I'm not sure about the copy protection used here but you might have actually used up your installs and will need to contact Securom or the copy protection company to unlock your key?

Do you have the DVD version or a downloaded version?
