According to the wording of the licenses themselves, if you use APL-SA content you must release the unbinarized source of the -SA derivative content. Except then Bohemia went and publicly stated that nobody was required to release any source files for anything whether it's -SA or not. Either things are really confused at BI these days, or they have no idea what they're doing with the licenses, or possibly the people who wrote the license FAQ didn't consult the people that wrote the licenses. JVB24, can you see if you can get a final decision on this? Whether SA requires source material to be released, or if there is no such requirement? Because so far Bohemia has stated both things.

So let me get this straight. You're blaming Bohemia because they broker a user-made script? If they had broken their own civilian/vehicle module I could understand this thread, but you're pissed that because they added karts to the civilian faction it's broken a user-script? The trees and everything else in that image look terrible, so it might be your graphics settings or your hardware itself. Try to take a single screenshot in the same area with all the settings maxed out.

You realize you're asking somebody to sign onto a project that will take 6-18 months, if not longer? With MANW going on you'd have better luck of Wolle leading a revolt against Bohemia, exiling Marek to Canada, and turning ArmA into a giant My Little Pony combat sim. Every life mod has serious drama, yours will not be an exception. Every life mod has their terrain and mission ripped off within a week, yours will not be an exception. I don't wish you ill, but I'm telling you right now that this isn't going to happen. You'd have better luck hiring somebody, but for the type of project you want them to do you'd have to pay like $5,000 or more, most likely.

Just because Aoi has permissions does not mean you can use his. He has permission to modify the work and then release it under APL/APL-SA. No, there was a KA-52, but the APL files include a KA-50. Loki told you the same thing I'm telling you, and Aoi also refused when you tried to get him to either hand over the mlods or point you to the people who have them. Give up, you're not going to win this. The only solution is to wait until Aoi releases the unbinarized source files at some point in the future, and modify *them*. (As Loki told you.)

There's the KA-50 included in the A2 APL package, that's your best bet if you don't want to wait until Aoi gets it done, I'm afraid.

Nope. Because they can't give you permission to rip it either, and they can't hand you the source files. Aoi got permission from Randy to use his KA-50, but Randy passed away before he could send him the source files. There are people who were previously given permission to use it, and Aoi can get the files from them because *he has permission*. You, however, cannot get the source files from them because you do not have permission. You may only modify the helicopter if Aoi or CUP release it with a license that allows you to do so. End of story.

I was talking to Aoi in skype yesterday about his attempts to get the KA-50, before I was even aware of your thread. I pointed him to several people that I know are in possession of the mlods. The thing is, is that you don't have anything to do with CUP, so you cannot use their permissions. It doesn't matter that you just found out that the source files will be released in the future, because when you created this thread you did so without that knowledge, having ripped the KA-50 from the A2 download. To quote the forum rules you accepted when you joined... You can modify the KA-50 if and when it is released by Aoi (or someone else with the permission to do so) under the appropriate license. Until such time, you may not create a thread about your personal use edit, you may not show screenshots of the ripped work, etc. etc.

Here's the story. Kasrkin illegally ripped the A2 version of this helicopter. He's been modifying it and apparently decided he was going to release it. Now, because there was no readme (and no license) included with the original file (link here) it means that the license = All Rights Reserved. Essentially, the most restrictive license that does not allow for any modification. If Kasrkin wishes to continue working on/release a KA-50 based off Randy's bird, he must stop his current work and wait until the legal versions that have the proper permissions are released by the people that have said permissions. Then he must modify *their* work, if the license they use allows for it. Basically, he grabbed a helicopter off of ArmAholic, used an illegal debinarize tool, and has been updating it to A3 without permissions.

You don't get it, do you. He has no permission to modify this helicopter. He is not working with "originals". He illegally ripped the model and has been working on it, and went public because Randy Stratton died and can't contest it. There are people who have the unbinarized source files, that have permission to use and modify this helicopter, and they are currently working to do so. Just because Randy gave somebody permission to release it under APL or APL-SA doesn't mean Kasrkin can continue to rip Randy's work, because newsflash, APL-SA doesn't require you to release the unbinarized files and neither does APL.

Except those permissions were for CUP, not you. The model is not a BI model, by the way, so the current APL/APL-SA licenses don't apply. (I know you meant CUP can release under that license, but I was simply letting you know it's not a BI model) There are several people (The ACE mod included) who have permission to use the model. You are not one of them.

I know that you're giving credit, but do you have permissions? (Yes, I know Randy has passed away. That doesn't mean you don't need permissions. His family are reportedly working on sending his files to his friends in the community, and where it goes from that I couldn't possibly tell you.)

Turbosquid can't really be trusted either. I've seen CoD/Battlefield models on there, I think community members have found their work on there, and half the ripped A2/OA work I've reported to Bohemia was being sold on Turbosquid. Trust no one, always verify things yourself.

Penguin, this is a mod that's been in the works for at least 6 years, since June of 2008 I believe. It was worked on for Armed Assault, ArmA II/OA, and now ArmA 3. They don't want to do infantry and vehicles and aircraft, they have already done them, or a large amount of them. No need to worry, Rip knows what he's doing. :)

Bioware has not released the models from Mass Effect. The models that are "readily available" are ripped from the game illegally, and cannot be used in other games without opening yourself up to a lawsuit. In theory, you could do so for your own personal use as long as you don't ever share pictures of them or send them to anybody, but it would still be illegal. (Also, it *will* get you banned from these forums)
