    I thought you said you were leaving (again).

    It will be an interesting few years for A2 but I'm afraid the day or so of interest where DR was concerned happened 10 days ago (do try to keep up).

    DR is already in the bargain bin and with no dedi (and no just about anything else to attract people), I doubt we'll hear anything more (except from the dedicated DR Fanyboys) until CM announces the 1st DLC.

    I doubt many people will be paying for that tbh (that's if they can be bothered to reinstall the turkey).

    Maddog, im suprised at you really, the modding community is what keeps arma 2 alive. I wont dig up any ones histioy as a come back. But there are a few people i could bring up history, including DM.

    and yes! im very optimistic! Its gonna be interesting these next few months.

  3. A buddy purchased this for PC and let me borrow his copy.

    I played the first mission and part of the second.

    -Movement speed is waaaaaaaaay too slow

    -Fatigue system isn't real

    -FLIR looked childish

    -Tried going outside of the way points and was insta-killed

    -PLA looks EXACTLY like my guys

    -Head bob is irritating. Is this adjustable? I didn't even bother to look.

    -Not being able to move while give commands, wow that was such a great idea :rolleyes:

    -Weapons feel useless

    -Unlike most, it seems, I don't like the sounds. They sound very Hollywood.

    -Just teleported into the different missions. Why are there vehicles in this game? Do they play any larger role later in the campaign?

    -Played on the 2nd highest difficulty, but the AI never seemed capable of hitting me. I stood in front of 2 jeeps, in the open, no more than 100m away and waited for over a minute while they fired in every possible location except where I was standing. I lost a team member because a helicopter landed a rocket, or something, on top of him. I was next to the blast and, miraculously, took no damage. Whatever.

    -Nothing about the game was fun. It felt like work.

    -Weapon selection. In the first mission, I have 2 types of 40mm grenades, and I have to go through a big ordeal to get back to firing bullets. "Press 2 for HE"-reload animation plays, now "Press 2 for HEAP"-reload animation plays, now "Press 2 for bullets". That takes way too long.

    +Artillery system is pretty neat

    +I'm not a big stickler for graphics. They do their job and the game runs fine with everything maxed out

    +The menu music was entertaining

    +/- Didn't play with the editor. Really wasn't interested, either.

    Good post! this is exactly the way i feel, after playing it. There a a lot of things that need tweaking, and its nice to know they are working on it as we speak. :)

    Your project is always run by the business, and the business is above your project manager.

    CM produces the quality they do because they hire a specific type of developer and I'm sure they make sure that they keep a short leash on the dev teams.

    Making assumptions is just pointless, my point there, was that each team within CM will have their own goals, differennt levels of intelligence & experiance, time, personalities, and man power. These would surely determine how good a game will be, and what support they plan to provide afterwards.

    There are broken promises because the business wanted those promises broken.

    No, surely not. Promises are usually broken unintentionally, numerous reasons would cause promises to be broken, final deadlines being one of the main reasons.

    They did a risk analysis, and they estimated the game would still sell if they released it in its current state.

    Incorrect, this the reason why games get delayed, a dev would never release a game in its 'current state' if by that i assume you mean unfinished.

    Most of the "broken promises" are the kinds of things you can't just release a patch for. The AI is one of them, graphics are another. They did their risk analysis, and they underestimated the outcome.

    Incorrect, is amazing how times have changed, you could make a whole new game via patch lol, ai defenitly can be improved with patch.

    How is this even funny? I think many of us have strong respect here for the BIS developers, past or present. (Especially us who are also software developers; simulations of any sort or complexity are never easy.) I'm surprised you even have the tenacity to use "BIS dev" as a derogative.

    The same way dragon rising shipped with ALL of the features we were PROMISED during dev?

    Its not about giving them time. They have a crap track record for supporting thei releases, simple as. A wolf is a wolf, its like saying "the wolf ate the last 3 lambs we put in the cage with him, but he MIGHT not eat this one..." Chances are he will. Same goes with dr. One, maybe two crappy patches (to go with the crappy game) and bam, they'll move on to the next game. I wouldnt be surprised if most of the dev team has already been moved to other projects.

    As for the celebratory/victory party, I hope that most of them were drinking to dull the pain and shame of working on dragon rising...:j:

    Its not my problem that you are still hurting from broken promises during development, and your generalization of CM as if the dev teams within are all the same, and act the same, produce the same, do the same, then you have a lot to learn DM!

  9. I fail to see how my argument is not good? The physics are shit, the ballistics are shit, the graphics are dated. How is this going to be fixed by a 120-hour (as admitted by the senior guy in that linked post) patch?

    YOU are the one thats failing to provide answers or proof.

    I've shot plenty of rounds from all the weapons via the editor and not recieved a single jam.

    I've not been able to shhot people through the (open!) back of a vehicle - as have many others.

    I've flipped jeeps at 20km/h because I hit a rock the size of my fist.

    I've had dragster races in my M1A1 which accellerates from 0-60 in 3 seconds.

    I've seen the moon not move for hours on end, and the game just magically switch to daylight (not that night time is actually DARK...)

    I've tried to use the laser, bipod, ladder sights and other attachements on my weapons, but not been able to.

    How does ANY of this count as good features?

    Like the rest of us said. Codemasters has a reputation for delivering ONE half-assed patch, then moving on.

    We've all proved you wrong once already. Lets not make it twice, eh?

    No DM, you're failing to see my point, i made a quick list of features for which information was gathered from interviews.

    Ive already mentioned that issues will be addressed, lets not got for a 50th time eh?

    Give CM time dude! give them time! damn you're so impatient! The game is so new on the market, CM are still suffering from a hangover from the celbratory/victory party of the games gold status completion! lol :D

    You'll have to forgive some of us over here (me included most of the time), as we have a pointed issue, I'm certain you're aware of, with CM cashing in on the OFP name with this backsliding port of a game. BIS has built trust in support, not often seen in this industry. I'm hoping this becomes a challenge to CM, that they may patch the hell out of DR, and give the community what it needs to survive. I'm not holding my breath, as the bean-counters hold a higher paygrade then the guys that care about building the strength of the customer base. CM are notorious for using paying customers as common asswipe material. Hope they change their ways, as this would alter the downward slippery slope this industry is falling into.

    I agree, it was foolish of CM to take the game name away from bis, and ive said before, im not taking sides, if i see something retarded, untrue, basically anything! I will say somthing about it.

    CM knows what the community want, it would be Suicidal of them not to oblige to their fans requests.


  11. BI has a history of releasing AT LEAST 8 or 9 patches per game. Codmasters has a reputation for releasing 1, maybe 2 patches, then moving on.

    They are apparently developing a patch. What issues get fixed in this, is hard to say (since they're not saying anything). Its safe to assume, however, that since they were unable to perfect the rendering, the physics, the ballistics during 2+ years of dev, they wont fix it in another 120 hours of patch time.

    If its not under dev now, MP is going to be dead within the month (performance is only getting better at the moment because so many players are giving up and not bothering. Less players = less load = better performance), so why bother developing it later?

    Thanks for the link, that is very dissapointing, atleast they havent totaly dissmissed the possibilty. But still, who ever decided to advertise dedicated sever support on the game case, needs to be shot! :D

    Edit: You also still havent answered the question. Of that list of "facts" of yours, what actually IS in the game in any sort of half decent way? (Aside from the stuff which I have already admitted is there)

    No DM, you're not providing a good argument, you're basically saying "yes, you are right, those features you mentioned are in the game... BUT!"

    Like i said, there are issues, they will be addressed. :)

    You're very contradictive, maybe you dont realise it... The game has been out 1 week, and you judge CM's dedication to support the game.

    In regards to the dedicated server support, can you please provide the link of its confirmation?

    Also, how do you clear the weapon jams then? Since there isnt a button mappable in the options to do so?

  14. Speaking of copy-pasta, I thought I might take the liberty to revisit one of my debunking posts now that we really know the FACTS about dragon rising:

    Proven to NOT be in dragon rising.

    Proven to be poorly implemented - I can fire through the glass of a vehicle, but not the open space in the back?!?! (Plenty of vids on youtube to back this up)

    Proven to be fantastically awesome awful - lets flip my jeep 20m through the air because I hit a rock, roll my abrams because I hit a bush and lets not even talk about the dragster tanks or helicopter handling.

    Proven to be partially incorrect and the only assembly anims are for the rocket launchers. (Lets cock the weapon every time I change the mag, the MP5 anims are ALL wrong, and lets not even talk about switching to grenade launcher...)

    Subjective, only real-sourced sounds are for USMC equipment.

    Proven to be completely unrealistic and no better than what is available in ArmA2 - also quite easy to use as an auto-aim hack (lets face it, its 50% of the system already ingame).

    Proven to ONLY be flaslights. No lasers, no ladder sights, no bipods, no nothing...

    Well, I'm struggling to find much other than ball ("FMJ") for most weapons. Yes the vehicle weapons often have varying loadouts, but from what I'm seeing in the editor, its not exactly varied. Also, loltracers from EVERY weapon, even if its not a tracer type - see Mk19 firing tracer ammo 40mm...

    A few weapons have different modes, but I'm not really seeing much option here.

    Proven to be a dumb as hats unless guided by triggers and scripting...

    Proven to be completely borked due to the console-port nature of the engine. Oh yay, lets prevent ALL player movement whilst he's trying to give orders or change weapons...

    Proven to be smaller than the range available in ArmA2

    Proven to be one single type of headshot, and one single type of gut shot, and one single type of awful gib system. Proven to NOT be present for vehicles.

    Proven to be accellerated to 3x speed and proven to NOT have sun or moon cycles, nor accurate stars.

    Proven to be unrealistic - oh god oh god theres blood ON my eyes... And sprinting for ever.... Lets not even mention the magic bandages or the medics magic syringe...

    Proven to be quite good actually, assuming the AI is in the right mode.

    Proven to be average, considering there is all of about 12 different building models on the whole of skira, not really that impressive. Also proven that once opened, you can not close a door again. Derp. Not yet seen an AI kick in a door, but then I havent played the campaign yet, so I might be missing some scripted event there? (Jury is still out on that)

    Proven to be nothing more than a large hill with an indentation in the top. Whoop-de-do.

    Proven to be complete bs, since the ai can see you through pretty much everything.

    Pretty subjective. But you can NOT disagree that the models are low poly, have low-res textures and suffer from AWFUL lod switching.

    Proven to look nice in most cases, but rather limited - every explosion looks the same, just scaled differently.

    Proven to be ok, when the sound plays fully. Lots of cases of sounds clipping before they have completed playing.

    Proven to be utter bullshit. Sure you can see for miles and miles, but nothing, absolutely NOTHING renders beyond 1300m. I know, I've tested, double tested and verified myself (on a powerful rig, everything maxed). So this massive view distance allows you to see nothing more than some very low-res terrain mesh with some very low res/muddy textures on it. Awesome...

    O rly now? Since the game has been released, and everything can be seen by everyone with their own eyes, not just from the PR nonsense, would you still like to claim this?

    Full of bullshit you say? I'm not so sure, are you? Still want to claim it all as fact?

    I hate to be smug (actually, I lie, I love to be smug) but... I told you so? :D

    I did find this amusing, since evrything in that list except maybe one or two things are in the game, and seeing as that list was made pretty much of the top of my head from what i gathered from interviews, that aint bad! btw weapon Jam is in.... happened to me quite a few times.

Arma 2 is so 90's lol, thus most of you dont care becasue were born in the 30's lol, and been gaming forever.
