    FP : DR - News & Discussion

I think Codemasters will not be able to create a proper sequel of OFP without BIS. Cause Real Virtuality engine is essential for this simulation, if we want to enjoy wast areas of different landscape, filled with various interactive objects. Alongside with great single player scenarios this feature brought tremendous success and world fame to OFP.

    F-22 and US-101 Cancelled

I believe in fact, that the world is divided into "zones of interest" by key-players of the big game - U.S., Russia and maybe China. My country is a member of NATO alliance, and this fact shows that serious people there in Washington actually know that there is a country, called Lithuania, as well as other Baltic States and Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary who were liberated out the soviet occupation in 1991. And I am glad, that U.S. military aircraft industry did not stop after development of F-15, F-16 and F-18 but went all the way towards the jets of 5th generation. As I said earlier, no other nation made such progress in aircraft production. Russian Sukhoi and Mig were making money building SU-30's for India and Venezuela, fitting them with western equipment (you really have to put efforts in order to develop competetive domestic technologies, buying and reselling imported stuff is much easier). If we take China, for example, they even failed trying to copy engines of Su-27, so we should not even mention their possible development of next generation fighters. I always read various Russian forums, devoted to military aviation. There all people admit that F-22 Raptor is unmatched fighter to any modern russian jet like Mig-35 and Su-35. Sukhoi designers were shocked, when they saw Raptor's exhibitional flight at Farnborough Air Show in 2008, all they wanted was that F-22's show off to end as soon as possible as "potential customers of Su-35" could see it and make conclusions, not favorable for Sukhoi Corporation.

It is very bad when questions of strategic defence are left down to government, politicians but not military specialists. Can civil official with Harward academic degree in economics understand a CIA provided throughout analysis of estimated hostile force and it's capability, and take appropriate decisions? I would say no. Cause he thinks as economist but not as military specialist. And let us leave statements like "Russia is no longer hostile" to 24-hour propaganda of Russian TV. Here, in Lithuania, we had really enough of russian rule, and I don't want my children parade with Kremlin flags and say "Thanks for happy childhood!" in front of leader portraits. Russia will never change, even russians admit this, they need a "Tsar, President" or whatvever else totalitaristic leader, they need a Russian empire with key-nation "Russians", they need total control in zone of influence, which lasts as far as the former Iron Curtain or Berlin Wall. But we do not want. We did not want this in 1939, when Russians signed a Molotov-Ribbentrop pact with a Hitler's regime, deciding the fates of entire generations, we wanted a liberation in 1945, but got 60-year occupation istead.

First, there is no need to investigate an RCS of SU-30MKI, russian fighters got it tradiotionally high due do large radars fitted into their noses (compared to western radars, smaller due to the use of more innovative technologies), bad construction of engine air intakes and external weapon mounts, as well as russian air-to-air missiles with their extensive wings and stabilizers. So, RCS of SU-30MKI is known to be about 10-15 square meters, depending of munitions fitted. Second, Israelis have access to lot's of world's aircraft as they carry out various modernization programmes. Third, F-22 has an edge in technology becuase Russians or Chinese have nothing even similar to it, and will not have for long years to come. Sukhoi and Mig corporations have been making money during last 17 years or so, thus refusing all projects for development of 5th generation fighters. PAK-FA is just a mysterios name, and multiple experts are quite sceptic that there is nothing behind it. Fourth, sticking with 4++ or F-15SE Silent Eagle, F-16IN Super Viper means adopting a counterpart's playing style. Cause everybody else has nearly the same stuff, or going all the way towards gaving it. It's like a degress after making a huge progress. Financial issues are imprortant, but not in case of F-22's importance to all Western World. This is just a strategic, well done product, that cannot be replaced by anything else.

Selling such planes in significant numbers to hostile countries like Iran would be a real threat. Israelis will definately need F-22's then, in order to ensure their safety. However, all russian military equipment always suffered from extremely low electronic warfare capabilities their radars and other high-tech equimpment can be quite easily jammed. That was one of the reasons of such great U.S. and NATO victories like in both Iraq wars or Yugoslavia campaign.

    F-22 and US-101 Cancelled

Yes, I do. But you should not expect the same one-sided game once more. Russia exports better equipment for it's potential allies like Iran or Syria, than has itself in it's military. For example, Russian Air Force has got Su-30's. But these are completely other Su-30's than these, that are used with air forces of India or Venezuela. Export versions have Thales MFD's in cockpits, Lantirn-like targeting pods and compatible with western air-to-air equipment. Same goes with Su-35BM and Mig-35 aircraft. One of the reasons for Israeli Air Force to purchase sophisticated F-15I Raam fighters were extensive upgrades done to Syrian military forces. Will such fighters cope with newest SU-35BM or Mig-35 fighters in case of theoretic Israeli-Iranian war? Yes they will, but this will be damn difficult. Russia may escalate potential conflicts in it's "zones of strategic interest" by equiping forces hostile to U.S. and NATO with it's newest equipment, without spending a cent from domestic budget. F-22's can decide the outcome of such conflicts (like F-15's in Bekaa valley in 1982) or even prevent them from occuring.

In case USAF has only 187 Raptors, I think it would cause some limitations on tactical deployments to areas of possible conflicts. That means, only about 20 F-22's (10 percent of the total figure) may be deployed. Nobody in strategic air command in Pentagon would risk the half of the entire fleet of these fighters. Falcons and Eagles are good enough for dealing with enemies, that live in caves, but in serious conflict, where all kinds of military will be involved, those strikers will need real assistance delivering their packages on targets, assistance that Raptors can provide best.

First, Georgia did not attack first. You shoud not trust any word of Russian official statements. That was an invasion, well planned during several months, not hours as Kremlin miitary authorities say. Initially, Georgia pushed in South Ossetia after units of Russian army had moved in that territory, aiming for protection of it's sovereignity only. Russia meanly missaplies internationally recognized principes of multi-citizenship, they divide Russian passports to people and claim such territories as zones "of Russian strategic interest", that was the initial reason of August 2008 war.

Are you sure that your enemy lives in caves? Look what is going on in Russia - a some kind of imperialistic hysteria, escalated by ex-KGB officer Prime minister Vladimir Putin and his collegue President Dmitry Medvedev. They use their nuclear weapons as the only argument in international policy. They look like Hitler and his nazi-socialists before WW2, and events of August 2008 in Georgia were just the beginning. U.S. must continue F-22 Raptor program and build up missile defence shileds in Eastern Europe. That is my point of view.

That depends on what enemy you are facing and who is supporting that enemy. Remember the events in Bekaa valley in 1982. IAF F-15's were the key element of that tremendous victory in air-air combat. They were all the way higher than their Syrian counterparts - latest Mig-23 versions as well as Mig-25's. And there were a significant number of them. Nowadays, only F-22 has absolutely highest capabilities, while all other fighters are more or less similar to each other. A proverb "You cannot be too rich or too armed" fits the situation with F-22 program financing better than anything else. Nobody shoud spare on defence expenses.

I wish Pentagon would revise it's decision. They should understand that F-15 fleet wil soon be unable to complete the air dominance tasks, taking into account that russians are doing the same upgrades on Su-35 and Mig-35 fighters, installing AESA radars, implementing antiradar paint etc. :( F-22 gave USAF an ability to dominate the skies of any possible conflict for decades to come, this fighter reached a technology edge in nearly all aspects: - lowest RCS of any fighter aircraft. You can do upgrades like F-15SE Silent Eagle, keeping on dancing with 4th generation, but it is still like trying to do an extensive modern tuning for an oudated car, it still remains an old aircraft. - excellent power to weight ratio - AESA radar capable of tracking 100 targets simultaneously and engaging dozens of them at the same time, electronic attack capable - Super-maneurability giving a more stable aircraft control on critical AOA's than in rivalling russian jets

    Dynamic Missions

In dynamic missions completion of certain objective has a direct influence on the success of the mission in general. For example, in "Rescue" mission of 1985 campaign you have to bust an inbound BMP before it blows up the truck with civilians. Cause saving the civilians is cruicial for completing a mission. That is my point of view.

Operation Flashpoint GOTY on ASUS EEE PC 1000H?

You will definitely be able to run it with absolutely no problems. OFP seems to be a very notebook-friendly game. I own an Operation Flashpoint Game of the Year Edition (3 CD UK release by Mastertronic) and I run it on 1280 x 800 resolution, all visual options turned on, normal detail level and distance range of 1221 meters (which seems quite enough for most of OFP engagements). There is a nice framerate even in intensive combat missions and online games. My notebook is nearly 4 year old already with Sempron 3300+ 2.0 Ghz, 1024 MB DDR 333 Mhz RAM and ATI Radeon Xpress 200M 128MB onboard graphics. So go on, get this great game and enjoy it!
