  1. Is it just me or do people have hifi_m134 and jsrs_m302 show up in their mission.sqm from time to time?

Is there a way to get rid of that? I keep forgetting to take off JSRS when mission making, and by the time i've pboed it, put it on server, connected, mission doesnt load, realised and had to re-do it, I'm frustrated to the shit lol. Any workarounds? (besides obviously disabling the mod...)

  2. Why would we ever get a current-day army DLC when the vanilla game is set in the future?

All of BIS' past DLC have been concurrent with the vanilla game's chronological setting, hence, I severely doubt we will see any formed bodies with 2011-era weapons running around, except the poorly equipped resistance, I 'spose.

Does it have to be a current day army DLC? Surely it could be a future day army? The game features futuristic US forces, why not a DLC of 'futuristic' army from another country?

  3. Australians in Europe (Greece) is like Brown Bears in the Arctic !:D:D

I think it is better for you to stay home and hunt kangaroos.

Or join the U.S. Army or UK Forces (In the game)

    But seriously now :

    The scenario sees no ADF!

Europe and NATO will have to "make it" without ADF

    Sorry Brother !!!!!!!!!

    Regards

    (ST6)Predator

    *trolling*

I hope you understand Australia is the largest non-NATO force in Afghanistan and the third largest contributor of Special Forces.

On another note, our Special Forces, especially the SASR are regarded as one of, if not the best Special Forces units in the world. Our infantry are also highly regarded and perform at a higher level than most Infantry units within NATO countries, eg. the US. No offense, but that's true.

    *end trolling*

But a country like the ADF would be a nice fit in a scenario like this. Something different. Everyone's had enough of the USA. (Well that's me personally). They're in every game. Introducing something out there and different, e.g ADF, also French, Germans or something along those lines would be cool :)

  4. The action menu in the demo was made for the demo.

Yeah I know, I just hope it's nothing like that in the final game. Something similar to Crysis would be ideal. Press like C and either the weapon pops up, similar to Crysis, you choose your weapon customisation, or a screen with the weapon and you choose your mods, then you see yourself put them on the weapon in front of you. :)

  5. I'm all for weapon & player customisation. Not so much in SP, but MP it will be good, you'll be able to determine who's who etc. Obviously not completely different camo, but different chest rigs, helmet patterns, infra-red patches, goggles etc.

With weapon customisation and the 'on-the-fly' stuff, I hope to dear god it's not what was shown in E3, that looks like something a mod team put together in 2 mins. I hope it's similar to Crysis, you press a button and a menu pops up, and you can actually see yourself change the scope, or silencer etc. I know that's difficult to do, but It'd just make it so much nicer rather than choosing an action, the weapon disappears, reappears with the change...

But looking forward to this, I hate going ingame and going through crates for a million hours to find the right weapon. Just select 'M4', and mod it to how you want it. Awesome :)

  6. Yes, but with a server fps of 10-20. It is fairly noticeable.

and yes, UO do do a better job than many other squads, but that is part of the point, one should not have to be good nor rich to run a good server.

    Edit: typo :)

    My point exactly.

The thing is, I know ArmA 2 is a powerful game, spawns AI etc. But the netcode is annoying. Desync, Lags when someone joins, AI warping, players shuttering etc.

You shouldn't have to buy, as SQB-SMA states, a expensive server just to run one ArmA 2 server. At the moment, a few of us at AusArmA have bought a new Dual Core Xeon 3.2Ghz, 4GB ram, 15k 80GB HDD to run one MSO server, and still it eats 100% of the CPU, and runs at 15Fps...

I may be asking a lot, but netcode has been an issue ever since the start of OFP back in 2001 and it's getting worse with improving graphics. Some of you aren't experiencing it sure, but a vast majority of us are. Let's just hope BIS can some time out and look at it and improve it where they can.

    ------------------

Back to the engine. The engine itself is very powerful. But, as stated by many others, there are just niggling things here and there that need improving, and I'm sure BIS are working on it. The main thing I want to see is that BIS release a non-buggy game at launch, so when people buy it, they don't need to wait for a patch to get rid of a bug in the engine or campaign. A lot of the things that brought reviews down for A2 was bug problems on launch, if this is fixed, A3 reviews will skyrocket, thus bring a bigger player base, leading to more money for BIS to keep doing their thing! :)

  7. ArmA, Arma 2 & Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead all ran for me on release, completely fine.

I think the issue most of the time is people need to take better care of their PCs, or learn how they work better.

But they run better now then they did on release? For me, they ran fine on release, but not as well as they do now. Which should have been how they ran on initial release.

  8. We play co-ops in A2 with 60+ people every Saturday, and they run just beautifully.

Improve the netcode sure, but don't claim A2 can't handle it.

There's a difference between running one ArmA 2 server on a i7 beast with 1000gb's of ram, and running 10x BF2 64 player servers on a dual core Xeon with 4gb of ram...That's netcode right there.

And there is a major difference between the MSO and a stock standard Co-Op. Try running a MSO with 60 players....

  9. 128 what? I've played 120+ PvP games in A2, but never in BF2 (64 max afaik).

Na, it did support 128. 64v64. But that doesn't matter.

The netcode does need to be fix. Not for PvP, but for Co-op, the main gamemode the majority of A2 players play.

  10. As for netcode. I don't really know any other engine that can have, say, 80 human players running around all while sending hundreds of bullets with proper ballistics out there and back - lag free.

    1. ArmA 2 struggles with AI with <20 players...

    2. Battlefield 2 supported 128...

I'm also interested to see if it's RV 3.5 or 4. I'm hoping on many more engine improvements over the E3 demo, otherwise, well, I won't be unhappy, just disappointed. BIS doesn't need to rush this game, the amount of time people spend of A2 still is crazy, BIS can take their time and create the best Mil-Sim to date, I just hope they don't fudge it...

  11. I wonder what the new animation system will be like, how it will be different from the current one, what new possibilities it will open up, etc.?

Hopefully much more fluent and realistic animations. No more 'clunkyness', no more animations that are incorrect or very poor.

  12. I've now seen it.

Very meh. It's all real-life, maybe some CGI. Very different trailer. Seems like the sort of trailer they should have shown us at announcement, not at E3... Ohwell. Still looks promising.

  13. So, is there any arma 3 announcements yet from e3? so far its all about sony, MS, ubisoft and EA(btw BF3 looks sensational) but no word about arma 3?

E3 hasn't officially started yet. All those major press releases are from major gaming companies, unfortunately BIS does not fit in that category (yet ;) ). The day before E3 is scheduled for such companies to give big press releases. E3 starts in 6 or so hours (9am PDT?). I'd expect the trailer plus more info to be shared when E3 kicks off.

  14. Can anyone tell me when E3 begins? Down here in Australia we're always a day ahead, or two days sometimes, so can someone confirm when it actually begins for me?

i.e post saying, E3 starts from now etc.

    Thanks haha :P

  15. These have been stated by others I presume, so I'll just write what I think needs to be in the game for it to be a success;

My Expectations/"Need to be in" List:

    - New Sound Engine. Including 3D Sounds, directional sounds. Realistic bullet cracks, different sounds for different environments (inside house, valley etc). Similar to that of Bad Company 2.

    - Re-written/Completely new netcode. The Netcode in ArmA is pretty poor. The Desyncing and lag has become fairly bad over time. This needs to be investigated and fixed.

    - New animations. As people have said, no more clipping, make reloading the weapon realistic, climbing a ladder, getting in and out of vehicles, crawling etc. Make them realistic and fluent.

    - Smoother graphics. Better and smoother graphics is a must. Better models, better grounds textures, nicer terrain etc. I'm sure this is already on your To-Do list anyway.

    - Optimisation. Sure ArmA 2 is awesome now, but that's what it needs to be on release. You need to optimise that engine to the max. Get the most juice out of it as you can, then make is extremely playable. Both in SP and MP (goes with the netcode).

    - 3D Editor. This needs to be implemented. It's been in VBS2 for awhile, and was alpha in ArmA 2. Time for it to be implemented.

    - Nicer Menu and GUI. The menu in ArmA 2 is nice, but it needs to be smooth, futuristic and welcoming to new players. The GUI needs to be changed and made to look nicer.

    - A Bug-Free release. As people have said, ArmA 2 was slightly buggy when released which led to some poor reviews. A demo/beta needs to be released to a select few (maybe moderators on forums?) before you release the game just to make sure you have ironed out all the bugs. (Especially in the SP missions and campaign).

    - BIS, take your time! There's no need to rush this game. We're still all enjoying ArmA 2. So take your time and make it the best it can be.

    That's about it.
