  1. bohemia needs to subsidize and sponsor the leading content creators of our community instead of pocketing revenue earned off their work. the recent a3life fiasco demonstrated the extent of their concern about modders

Nice as that sounds I'm pretty sure the life mods would takeover the top of the market.

  2. Well the "Je suis Mohamed" refers to the policeman who was shot on the street following the newspaper attack.

But these articles talk about the small minority of muslim who refuses to grieve in memory of Charlie Hebdo. Those are 2 different types of people.

EDIT : oops, sorry I mixed up the name of the policeman, it wasn't Mohamed but Ahmed Merabet, so yeah, you are right.

But if we're going to believe in free speech and freedom of thought then isn't that their right to refuse to grieve? As long as they aren't bringing physical harm to another person what is their wrongdoing? I'm not saying this for just muslims but rather anyone who would disagree and not stand beside an image or message to support the death of an idea or something Do they become an enemy instantly for looking the other way?

The 9/11 Terrorists were very successfull. Not only did they do their attack inside america, they also tricked the US into taking away its own freedoms, into sending hundreds of soldiers to their death in a far away land, into creating a lot of new jihadists because innocent people lost their belongings and their lifes in those wars....

Yeah our government is full of a bunch of greedy lobbying old morons that see war as a chance to profit and can't even be arsed to sign a declaration of war, and war seems to be their answer to everything these days, both foreign and domestic.

  3. How exactly would one combat terrorism? We don't know if someone is going to kill someone unless they are caught in the act or go through with it, the former being fairly difficult. I've read that our police forces want to begin making face scanners and fingerprint ID's standard amongst other things, the idea of equipment watching for "suspicious individuals", such as someone leaving a briefcase and then walking away, who knows what else or if its even possible.

  4. The whole thing about christians and jews is just a way to rile/terrify to more people, everyone seems to have forgotten about the separation of church and state but its also just another fear tactic "If you are christian then these muslims may be out for you!" our government is very good at that sort of thing.

Couldn't say wether or not our our way of life and its effects were the right decision, heck there may be no right answer when you consider the multitude of cultures and lifestyles, our way is not your way as it were, perhaps you could say the most peaceful is best?..Eh...I don't know what we can do about these extremists but I would never trust the task of handling that to the US government and any others it would, because the first suggestion is going to be military action.

You know...all of these talks about religious extremist muslims...I wonder, if we looked into the background of murderers and their information was released publicly, how many are christian.

  5. All I see is hitler speech redone by americans, something about tightening our security and declaring war one a religion if not a race...and yay more babbling on about a non descript war against a non descript opponent, it's going to be vietnam part 3.

Even worse now we have a bunch of religious bumpkins going on about a whole religion being nothing but extremists.

I find it funny that these people go on about terrorists seeking to destroy our way of life and to take our freedoms when our government seems perfectly capable of doing that, you'd think they were using it for an excuse or something.

EDIT: sorry for the OT, our politicians just really really upset me to the point that I apparently cannot help but foam a bit.

  6. I'm sorry but that makes no sense. Fighting against extremist sectarian movements doesn't mean fighting against muslims. The victims of those extremists are usually muslims themselves.

Right but the extremists tend to blend into crowds these days (kind of funny that they call others cowards) and use civilians as a human shield. How does one identify them exactly? It also seems the majority of attacks seem to point to muslim extremists...that is what I was alluding to, I'm not saying religion or origin is what makes someone "evil" but it sure does seem rather focused these days.

Truth be told for these reports I'd rather the whole religion or race go the way of the do do bird and they just be labelled extremists, I mean when someone who has a bible and goes to church kills someone we don't say "Christian murderer".

  7. Well what do you want to do exactly? Persecute people based on religion, raid their homes and detain them if the house contains a qua'ran? Bomb mosque's and other religious statures?

While I certainly believe something should be done...I don't know what, but going that route is certainly not good, it would be no better than the christians and their crusades.

  8. Slightly on the OT side but said journalists likely didn't understand the meaning behind it, we're good at that. I mean hey we are still argueing over wether or not our constitutional amendments hold up today and why they may or may not. :drinking:

  9. Because this is the off topic section and thus not pertaining to the game hence all of the politics and whatnot ending up here.

And if I'm not mistaken Arma 3 was banned in Iran or something like that despite the game making them on the level of the US military if not in some ways better ingame.

On another note please do not necro threads, much less ones that were buried so deep they were in the second layer of the earths crust by this point.

  10. I´m still waiting for this

Oh wow, that is the most interesting rendition of the ion cannon I've seen, always wondered if the required delay of time afterwards is a required cool-down period, if the heat is ejected into space or what exactly they use to make the weapon function.

Well its technicly not an Ion Cannon but there was a concept in 1979 or something called Project Thor which would use so called "rods from god", dropping tungsten rods from space to the earth.

COD Ghosts used a version of this and called it ODIN.

  11. What if there was just an animation for actions instead of an interactive cockpit? Like when you started the engine the character would go through the motions of switching on the battery & stuff. Then it'd sort of make you feel like you were doing things, plus it'd look cool.

Well you would need custom animations for just about every helicopter considering their layout is different, right down to the simple concept of some having the power levers overhead vs to your side, not to mention battery, APU switches/toggles, starters, and anything else the aircraft may need depending on wether its start up procedure is more manual or automatic.

That is just the animation key points, we then need to consider every finger curl, wrist twist, slight lean and so on..in fact the only aircraft I have seen with anything pertaining to this is the OWP Mi-26 way back in OFP, and I doubt it didn't take very long. It's a nice idea but could have a horrible execution, the precision that would be required for one, and just about any shortcut would stick out.

  12. Exactly the above, the reason a few guys were able to make an apache with interactable cockpit with so much fidelity and other features is because they did so in their spare time with no cost to them outside of from their weekends, you're talking about two very different development cycles with different requirements.

While they would need to ensure that the creation works 100% or at least 90% of the game, have it go back and forth between various teams and quality control, all we had to do was brainstorm about how ideas, weather it was possible, and weather or not the consequences were worth the feature.

For example, standard Arma cockpits come packed in their single p3d file, in order to get all of the 3D buttons, knobs, panels, and other details I wanted, I had to use a primary cockpit file with the buttons and faces required for the digital imagery, and another p3d to act as a proxy for the frame and other non unique components, something I am pretty sure BI would not do.

Secondly as scooper said, if they added this for heli's then people would want it for fixed wing and other ground vehicles, and I couldn't blame people, it would be very strange to see one component so madly detailed but everything else still holding the same functionality it did at least one game back. As an addon maker you don't have to care about making everything share the same fidelity outside of wether you want to or not, you just pick something and go about your merry way.

About the cockpit visual fidelity, I'm assuming you mean the amount of detail in a DCS cockpit vs ARma's. I don't think that would be possible outside of DLC when you consider that DCS tends to focus on one or two interiors or at least just a few aircraft while Arma games have far more, the amount of time spent on one cockpit wouldn't be cost effective for something such as Arma as it would be for DCS, you need to consider the differences between the games and their goals in cases like this.

  13. Yep the HDU image is coming from the PNVS just like the real thing so you see a bit further ahead like the real thing.

The addon also isn't currently working properly due to the default configuration searching for Arma 2 crew, hence the error when you try to start one as a placed unit.

For the lag, I don't think its possible to get around this, at least not with the way it is currently working. I certainly can't blame BI for wanting to optimize the net code and try to cut down on people crashing servers by overloading them with commands.3

I'm not going to lie, things aren't looking too well for an official A3 release at the moment, aside from the MP lag the binarize tool has been broken for a month and isn't locking things correctly.

In the worst of circumstances I would be willing to let the aircraft go unbinarized and leave it open but this produces a bunch of string errors and other problems.

I have also been informed by Franze that our missiles are apparently subject to FOV requirement now in that when fully visible such as a camera attached or just in range, the missile will do its usual thing and calculate the targets location.

But if it goes into the fog then the system gets screwey and has a 50/50 chance of hitting.

Now we just need to run into some problems with the burst mechanism and possibly zone loading then we might as well scrap the project.
