Real reasons for war in Lybia

We were having a discussion about life in the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and other Warsaw Pact countries prior to 1989 and the way our factories were prostituted to the West by corrupt politicians and all of a sudden you randomly picked Bosnia and Kosovo from the map and somehow hoped to incorporate it in to this discussion. I don’t understand how the events in Kosovo and Bosnia are related to the discussion we were having no matter from which angle I look at it. I’m not a pro Socialist or pro Capitalist because as far as I’m concerned the Soviet Union and America were always two heads of the same dragon with only one goal, and I frankly don’t care if you live in the world or not, all I want is for you Westerners to mind your own business and stop messing with us, you’ve been turning all of Eastern Europe against each other since history began, now your NATO wants to plant rockets in our countries against our bothers. There was no communist system in the Eastern Bloc, and it’s not the Socialists who are to blame for this but the people who joined the Communist party without wanting to do anything for the people but only for their own benefit (capitalists in socialist clothes). This lead to downfall of Socialism in Eastern Europe because those who joined the Communist party for their own good could quickly use their position to privatise state property and sell it to their Western accomplices, which happened and they turned in to the rich elite of business men and corrupt politicians who now run the country. I remember after the Velvet Revolution Vaclav Havel, the first president of the Czech Republic wanted to make Madeleine Albrigh the president after his term expired. Proof that the West was in on this revolution all along. (http://www.ce-review.org/00/10/culik10.html) It’s also no secret that there is immense corruption in Czech politics and Police now, you can’t hide the fact that EU funds destined for repairing infrastructure disappear without a trace while new villas are built around Prague. And you can’t hide the scandals of bribes that regularly take place in the government, I see it in the news all the time. Here is even a quote from eubusiness.com: You can’t come here and tell me that this isn’t true when I see it with my own eyes every day, you have absolutely no clue about the situation in Eastern Europe, so I suggest that you don’t try to prove me wrong, I have millions of people as living proof of what I’m saying is true. +1 Good luck explaining that to people like this:

Real reasons for war in Lybia

I don't know where you get the term uneducated from, my dad is an engineer and my mom is an artist :j: explain perhaps? It was a success because if you take the time to give this a little thought you would know how hard it is to move to a different country and learn a different language, now combine this with a person who has never even seen a different country in their life, had no money but yet managed to make this journey while giving their son a life that people in the country they left only dream about now and a life that not many people never get to even in the country where we emigrated to. I don't want this back and I don't want anyone else to have to experience this because not many people make it this far and it’s a very merciless journey to undertake. If you’ve ever gone through something like this especially in that time then you would know exactly what I’m talking about  It’s easy to judge someone without knowing the story which made them the person that they are and gave them the opinions that they have same as it’s easy to drop a bomb on someone without giving a crap, but if you actually take some time to understand that person you might be surprised at the things you discover.

Real reasons for war in Lybia

Don't ever call my parents a failure man, my parents managed to get out of a shattered country which was locked up for almost half a century and with no help from anyone, with no money, travel the world without knowing any language and worked their asses off all their lives and managed to give me a good education and life, they managed to get a house and achieved more than most people who are born here, know the language and have all the doors open to them  Watch your tongue man and watch it very carefully  1) Who built the factories if it wasn't the people of Czechoslovakia? It sure wasnt the people who sold them... It was ordinary people who were forced to build them by communists. 2) What right did a person who managed a factory that was built even before he was born have to sell it? Corruption corruption corruption thats the simple answer, they had contacts which let them get in to the position of selling the factories.

Real reasons for war in Lybia

Taken as in bought, for a very unfair price because it was the people of Czechoslovakia that built these factories and after the revolution communist managers of these factories who had no right to own them sold them for an unfair price. Since everything belonged to the state by what means was one person who was simply an employee responsible for the running of the factory allowed to clam that a factory was solely theirs? It’s like if you employ me in your company as a manager and I claim that I'm the chairman and sell it. Once again you don't understand, there is absolutely nothing wrong with free trade at all and the more a country engages in it the better, the point is the sudden change of opinion. Before the revolution they laughed at Czechoslovakia that our food is poisoned and turned us in to a laughing stock while deep down they know that this isn't true. Then after just days the revolution they forgot all about what they were saying just DAYS before and bought all the food they could get their hands on in Czechoslovakia. It’s quite ironic in my point of view.

Real reasons for war in Lybia

Yeah the factories were very inefficient, funny that the machines that were taken from them weren’t. I remember Austrians saying that food in Czechoslovakia was contaminated with pesticides that the Communists spray them with and what not, but when the border opened after the revolution a flood of Austrians came over the border and bought up everything, I remember them buying whole boxes of sugar, flower, meat and what not, shops were left empty after them, I guess they must have forgotten about the contamination or something when they saw the low prices? You don't understand my point Hans, the point I'm trying to make is that in my country I have a 4 bedroom apartment worth more than a million but I can't use it because of the political and economical circumstances created in my country after the collapse of communism. Instead I have to feed somebody here with most of my money because I can afford to buy a car and basic stuff that I could have had in communism. How would you feel if I came to the US, ruined your economy and forced you to leave your home in Texas and move to some other country where you will give your wage to someone in exchange for a tiny apartment compared to what you have in Texas? I don't want to continue bragging on about this because there's nothing that I can do and there is nothing that anyone here did to contribute to this, but I just want people to open their eyes and see the real results of what happened after the collapse of the soviet union because most people have the attitude "Yeah communism was evil so America destroyed it, but Eastern Europe is poor now so f*** them let them do whatever they want now, we don't care anymore". On topic: This is whats gonna happen to Lybians now as well, a lot of people will be forced to flee elswere as a result of this uprising while a lot of those who stay behind will be forced to start from scratch, but NATO or the UN doesn't seem to care about this in any way, all they want to do is remove Gadaffi and exit the country.

Real reasons for war in Lybia

Because after the collapse of the USSR and Czechoslovakia all the factories in my town were sold to Western companies by the leeches that came in to the communist party after 1968 for a few pennies, those Western companies took the valuable machines out of the factories and left the buildings to rot leaving half of the city without work. As the years went on people struggled to find work in the few factories that still operated working underpaid and overloaded to keep up with the rising food and energy prices. So my parents said to themselves that they don't want their son to grow up in a shattered country like that where he will just get used by Western companies and since the American Dollar was very valuable in those years we emigrated to America only to find that it’s even worse, then we emigrated to Canada only to find that we were being taken as some sort of low life there, nobody cared about our education all they cared about is that we are from Eastern Europe and were somehow evil, that we came to kill them or something. So we immigrated to the UK and finally decided we had enough travelling and broken dreams and settled here. The point I'm trying to make is: In the USSR you had to wait lines for food, in the post USSR you don't have to wait lines but you don't have the money for food, so basically it’s the same either way. The irony is that you still didn’t answer my question. I'm no cheerleader for communism but what I'm saying is that we were better off with it then we are now with your democracy and NATO membership. Try to do that in Eastern Europe now  I wish you all the luck in the world.

How can you make such a bold comment if you never lived in the USSR and have absolutely no clue what so ever about it except from what you were told by others?

Real reasons for war in Lybia

To tell you the trut I'd rather be living in the USSR as an average citizen, in my country i have a 4 bedroom apartment, in the UK I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and I give somebody £30 000 every year worth of rent. And since when has NATO done anything to help reduce tyranny? You call destroyning countries and cultures, prostuting their resources and people to the West and giving away portions of other countries away to others without knowing anything about the history of the place freedom? Please man, give me a break... It might be nice for you but one day the coin will turn on you and nobody will listen to you. And no I'm not from the UK, I just live here but that doesn't mean I have to agree to everything that the West does, infact the only reason why I'm here is because the West brought me here But anyway this is getting too off topic, I think its best if we get back to Lybia. Kind regards

Now that’s really cool Topas, very elegant buildings with good detail! Something that would fit perfectly on Taviana I dare to say  The third picture looks very similar to the Taviana parliament I'm making. Great job so far, I can't wait to see those buildings textured. EDIT: I'm jelous of these buildings haha, will you have a custom island for the mod? EDIT 2: Also, when I'm done with my Taviana Beta I'll get to work on that bus I promissed.

Real reasons for war in Lybia

NATO was all of a sudden so interested in making peace in Lybia... There was a revolution in Egypt, Tunisia, there are protests in Syria, Yemen yet NATO only invaded Lybia... It’s easy to make up a lie about fighting for democracy but it’s hard to hide the real reason behind it... And it’s also easy to justify things to the Western public, I was watching Russia Today one day and they asked some random people in New York about their thoughts on Lybia and I distinctly remember one man saying: makes me sad to see people so brainwashed. I just wonder when people will wake up to see the truth about NATO. But it makes me sad to actually see countries like Poland wanting even more NATO presence in their countries to protect them from Russia... I mean what’s Russia goanna do to Poland that they need NATO rockets in their country? I’m also ashamed of countries like my own, the Czech Republic even thinking about the possibility of building NATO radars in our country, why does a small country like us need to get involved in stuff like this and what has Russia ever done to us that’s so bad, they re-established communism after ww2? Most people these days are 100% worse off than they were back then and they know it... They are basically helping NATO secure a position in the world where they will be unstoppable. Anyway I give up on this stuff, people are like misguided sheep, you can give them whatever you want and they will always stab you in the back when someone else comes. :( +1

    China's Ghost Cities

Every country has low minimum wages, this is because every country works in a capitalist system, be it a "democracy" or whatever it’s called today, communist and so on... This is for a number of reaons: 1) To make sure that the poor always stay poor (how else would you have capitalism and social divisions if everyone was middle class or had the prospect of moving up to the middle class easily?). 2) To make sure that there will always be a large workforce which will get to work if you throw them a few pennies (how else would you get people to do all those kinds of jobs that nobody wants to do as easily as its done now?) 3) To make sure that a small number of people will always be able to govern a large amount of people easily, just by throwing them a few pennies (if everyone had enough money how would you govern them as easily as you can just by giving a hungry man a piece of bread?) 4) To make sure that the majority of people are too busy working for basic needs that they have no funds or time to get properly educated (how else would a government keep millions of people working for a few pennies without them seeing it or doing anything about it as easily as they do now?) 5) To create a social divide between poor people and middle class people so that the richer middle class is satisfied with that they have and will never stand up for the poor working class ensuring that things will always stay this way. These 5 points described above make sure that the country and world functions the way it does now, that it can be governed the way it is being governed now and that the things can justified to it just as they being are justified now. The minimum wage or schemes similar to it are in place to make sure that the poor don’t get as poor to the point where they will rise up like we see in the Arab world today. So there’s a nice bit of politics for you in a single post  Kind regards

    China's Ghost Cities

But when you’re an immigrant like me London has the most opportunities for you, so it’s the best place where you got a chance to somehow get a grip here. Besides moving country isn't that easy, it took about 6 months to even find a job here and nearly ran out of money, good thing I was living in that shared house. But then when you get a job here and live here for a few years its hard just to get up and move to another city, especially when your studding. But I have to say one thing that really pisses me off in the UK is how complicated it is to rent a flat. When I lived in Canada all you have to do is walk on the street, find a "For rent" sign, call the number and you can move in. No offence man but after reading this thread I thought the same :o On topic: Yeah, but I'm sure that when Westerners make another great documentary about the city they will include those Google Earth screenshots and say that the Communist party parked those cars there on purpose to make it seems like the city is inhabited, or that they are inflatable dummy cars or something

Very nice models, I especially like the detailed wheels on the first one, with a nice UV and shaders they will look awsome in game.
  16. + There will actually be 2 or 3 airports on the island (2 for sure and maybe the 3rd one too), one will be on the main island with a decent amount of space and 1 or 2 runways and a second much larger airport on the second island which will definitely have enough space for the TU95 as it will be a military airport with lots of open space. The third airport might be a simple flat patch of land for small aircraft like Cessnas but I don't know if I will find a place for it. The airports will also have custom buildings. Anyway here is the definite location of the first airport: And the second airport (don't mind the straneg colour):

    China's Ghost Cities

After watching that classic BBC propaganda video you posted I don't really see much of a difference between it and London except for the quality of the rented housing they showed in those old neighbourhoods. If you're an average working person living alone in London working for minimum wage (£5.93 per hour), you work full time, (38 hours) then it’s very hard for you to even rent a decent flat because they are so damn expensive. Let's do some simple math, £5.93 x 38 = £225.34. So an average person makes £225.34 every week, an average apartment (with one room, kitchen, bathroom etc... are in the same room) in West London in a not so decent but acceptable neighbourhood costs about £175 per week. So, £225.34 - £175 = £50.34, which means that the average person has £50.34 left for food, clothes, energy bills, transport etc... Now with £50 you're not goanna cover all that in London. Even if you do, you're not goanna save any money , you'll just be surviving. This means that people, especially young people, immigrants and so on live in "shared housing" where they rent a house and share it with 6 - 8 people. (Before you tell me that this isn't true, I'd just like you to know that I lived in a house shared with 9 people when I came to the UK and I know many others who did too). Now if you’re a young person or immigrant from a family that isn’t very well off financially how can you ever expect to get on the property ladder like this? Plus nowadays even to go to university in the UK for a chance to get a better job will leave you in big a debt, so how do you get yourself out of this situation, take a mortgage and finish paying it off when you’re standing in the coffin with one leg? No offence, I don't wanna start some kind of flame war but Westerners like to use their mouth a lot to spread bullshit around but when you actually come to live in the West that whole bubble of dreams you had pops straight away. Education is key. Kind reagrds
  18. Yep Btw guys, more screenies and a map of how much progress I've made so far comming soon.
  19. Hi everyone, (I know this isn't the best place to post this but I thought I'd share it anyway, maybe admins could make this in to a sticky thread because it’s quite useful.) How to pin drives e.g. the P:\ drive to the task bar in Windows 7? Ever wanted to pin the P:\ drive or any other drive to your task bar so you can access it quickly only to find out that you can't? Like this: Well I always wanted to but never got round to doing it until today, so I thought I'd share it with you, the solution is actually quite simple. 1) Create a shortcut to command prompt and place it in to some folder were it will be safe. You can do this by going to Start > All programs > Accessories, then right clicking on command prompt and selecting Send to > Desktop (create shortcut) and moving the shortcut from your desktop manually. (I placed mine in C:\Apps\Drive Shortcuts but you can place it anywhere you like.) 2) Now right click on the shortcut and type this in to the Target box %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe "Drive letter/file location" Change "Drive letter/file location" with the path to your drive or folder. So if you want to pin the P:\ drive type this: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe "P:\" To pin the C:\ drive type this: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe "C:\" And you get the idea... 3) Change the icon of your shortcut by clicking the Change icon button. Note: You can find drive icons in: %SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll Just copy paste the link above in to the "Look for icons in this file" text box. 4) Once you have done this you should be left with something similar to this, then just drag the icon to your task bar to pin it. NOTE: Every time you modify the shortcut e.g. change its icon you will have to unpin it and pin it again.
  20. I've been getting that experience since OFP came out in 2001
  21. The first post of this thread has been updated! Go to the first post of this thread (http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1719118&postcount=1) To read about some history of Taviana and other interesting stuff. You can also find the progress I'm making on the beta at the end of the first post of this thread.

Excellent 3DArtist! I can't wait to fly this beast over my island. Keep up posted with your progress
  23. Interesting mod, I always hoped that someone would bring this in to ArmA 2  If I wasn't busy making my own island I would help you with Kosovo.
  24. I know, I'm Czech myself, but the language on Taviana is not Czech. I was talking about the alphabet used on Taviana. For anyone whos interested: Basically Czech and Polish was written in the alphabet that Poland still uses now, but in the 15th century Jan Hus updated the old alphabet and created the Czech alphabet which we use now. The new Czech and old Polish alphabet was also used by Ljudevit Gaj, to create Gajica which is used to write the Croatian language and a variant of that is used to write Slovene. Anyway 'nough of the history, I'm going to work on Taviana
  25. Nope you only sent me the one on my screen, would be great if you sent the ones on the screenshot, they look amazing and will fit the island perfectly. Yep, all I will have to do is change the old Slavic Latin alphabet still used to write the Polish language in to the little bit newer Czech version so it’s consistent with other writing on the island. But I won't change the words; I think it’s good to preserve history. EDIT: I thought about a sewage treatment plant too, if I find a sensible place to put it I will make it, but putting it 10 meters beside a residential area probably wouldn’t make the residents too happy.
