  1. Because this is taken a split second before AIs throw themselves to the middle of the street :p :D
  2. Why does it always come down to "this weapon is't there" or "this feature is missing". All of these, in a 1000 times more detailed fashion, must have been discussed in the concept design step of the development process. Can you imagine a company, releasing a combat simulator and VBS2, does not work with military advisors and do not know how a Javelin works or do not care to create it. Now realism & gameplay and inversely proportinate. You trade some gameplay features to get some realism. This is a commercial product designed to be sold to all enthusiasts aged 16+. And all those people play this game in a totally different fashion. Therefore you need couple of inputs/facts to position your product.. Your target customers and the way they play. As you get older you tend seek more intelligence in games (hopefully :D) As you play more of a game you tend to seek cooperation. Thus you want more realism because you start playing more slowly and cooperatively and you start to value the simulation aspect of the game and want everything similar to RL in terms of design & behavior. These are true for fans of this game but not true for the 16-18 yo kid who lays their hand on the game for the first time. Think about kids who play SP or MP Evolution on their own and cannot run 15 mts without collapsing because they carry Javelin to kill tanks in one shot..where is the fun in that. Long story short...the reason you play changes your taste about realism.. -When I play on my own in a public server, I do not like ACE because I don't like collapsing to ground every 15 when I sprint. I'm runnin & gunnin. -When I play tactically and slower with mates, I love the features ACE & other addons bring to the gameplay in terms of "realism" and can't think of a session without them -When I play in a campaign like IC, I like the big battlefield atmosphere where each unit has a structure and has its orders and tasks to perform. Realism aspect is a bonus not a must. -When I play in a campaign like ATOW, I like its ACE & Other addons integration. The gameplay is slower and I appreciate any feature & addon implementation toward achieving true-to life battlefields ... So everyone can find, create their own level of realism in ArmA. Therefore I admire BIS a lot for providing the tools and the platform to the public so that the community can make this game as realistic or as fantastic as they wish with unparalleled freedom.
  3. You can but HiFi will only change sounds of the default rifles. ACE specific rifles will keep using ACE sounds. To us it with ACE -> change "ACE override BIS Sounds" setting in ACE client config.hpp in DTA/ACE
  4. Sorry for OT but quickly going thru the whole thread, I lol'ed @ Dwardens efforts to make himself clear and to differentiate it from addon issue...and going nuts in the end :icon_lol: It's a sad lol though.... Anyway...here are my points.. 1- This may be a good solution for rental servers where they rent 1 CPU and 1 RAM block and 25Mbps connection from a rental co. Basically 1/4 of a server. Or for non-dedicated servers. Or dedicated servers operated from home with limited connectivity. This again a small % of MP community, I believe. 2- I dont think it is a problem for most DediServers. Nowadays most of the proper dedi servers are at least with Quad-core and 100mbps conn with 1-3TB monthly BW limit. 3-Arma1 does not fully use the available bandwidth of a 100mbps line. In a 30 person coop or domination session I've seen figures around 8-12Mbps outbound. 4-I support the idea of "mission-downloading should be separated". Therefore my input or counter-suggestion would be In JIP instances, where the mission has already started, ArmA client should start a background ftp/http transfer task/service upon/before connection to download the mission file from the same server's, missions folder. This should be done before harassing the Arma Server and should be thru a separate service launched for this purpose only. This does not require any URL or anything and the process will not bring any extra-load to the Arma server/client itself. Yet I think the biggest cause of lag due to JIP comes from the synchronization of client with the server on battlefield & soldier status
  5. The file need not be dangerous necessarily...it may be one file from an addon you want to exclude from your server...without using verifysignatures. Therefore the file may have a proper signature which will pass this test. KickPlayerWithFile={mod1.pbo, mod2.pbo, mod3.pbo} -> to exclude a mod from server without using "verifysignatures" KickPlayerWithoutFile={mod1.pbo, mod2.pbo, mod3.pbo} -> to make a mod required without using "equalmod" to join the server. Tbh this one can also be achieved by listing those pbos in the mission files but you need to edit all the missions one by one. Both work for any files listed..workes as OR rather than as AND.

  7. The forum rules are clear...it is upto the mods to exercise it to the extent they deem as appropriate. No need for drama.. 1) let the community know so that we can single out who does it. 2) solve it with moderators & the other party through PMs or own forums. It has nothing to do with BIS or anything that BIS has provided for $ or for free. http://forums.bistudio.com/misc.php?do=showrules §20) Posting addon/mod other content without permission For many years this community has been known as the premium addon/mod creating community, people work tirelessly and in great detail to create fantastic addons/mods/missions/campaigns to release for free so that everyone benefits, including Bohemia Interactive. There are a few simple rules in place to provide the respect to these creative people/groups that they deserve: The first and most fundamental rule is that you must seek permission to alter someone's work, to mirror it or use it in any way other than for personal use. No permission, no editing, no mirroring, no adding to your mod pack, no editing and sharing around your private squad, none of that is acceptable. Obviously we cannot unfortunately control what people do outside of these forums, however on these forums you must follow this rule, if a person/team post a thread to share an addon/mod using content from someone else without permission and we receive a complaint then the mod thread will be closed until the issue is resolved and the forum member(s) risks being permanently banned from these forums for taking someone's work without permission. This isn't just limited to re-using content in addons/mods/missions however, it's not acceptable to edit someone's work without permission and then to post screenshots of it on the forums (even if the edited addon/mod is purely for personal use), it's also not acceptable to edit someone's work, or use someone's work in any way that you don't have permission for and then to create videos which you post on these forums, doing any of the above without the permission of the original creators risks a permanent ban, for individuals, for whole mod teams or squads.
  8. Nice job... Give/PM me the link to the new PDF and I'll change the file on the server ;) Congrats again on your release guys ! cya edit...I guess we had a much better solution ;)
  9. It is really a shame that the persons you've named has done things beyond the extent of our "gaming" community and actually hurt you and your professional life where you make your living. Let us know if there is anything we can do to support you in this matter. chin up..
  10. I pleased with most of those gamestar.de screenies after seeing some strange ones in other previews, especially in terms of AA. - The level of detail on buildings and terrain does not seem to match when looking from a certain distance. Buildings with more detail looks as if glued to a low-detail terrain. - I think the distance designations needs to be worked on. How many of them atm ? Near, very near, close, very close, far, not far, far from us, not far from us.. These expressions are not for exact ranging but to give you a feeling about how close the threat is. Close/Very-Close means you need to get your gun up and get defensive now...Far means you can stay alert and but have time to sort out what to do or out of sight. When you hear them they give you a sense of urgency right away... But "near" or "not far" are way too vague and they don't create that sense of threat. I think it best to use them in combination with meters...like instead of "not far" we can use "around 300 mtrs"...ie assuming "close" is 100 mtrs and "far" is 500 mtrs. Again rather than using "near" for <50 mtrs, give mtrs as in "enemy..left..25 mtrs" because you can judge 0-50 mtrs easily.. Or use "Enemy..left..next to us" again create that urgency. Keeping them simple help them create that desired effect --> next-to, very close, close, far, very far and rest report with meters.
  11. g-c there are many many steps involved when you are developing a game ... this is no secret. And they cost money, many developers' minute costs money. Therefore, it is sometimes just not as easy as releasing an addon or doing some random changes whenever you feel like it or being demanded. It may be a simple job but there may be other concerns holding them back...maybe as simple as a prioritization or as serious as legal, royalty or ratings issue like when more realistic means higher age rating. Things get complicated when you create and sell a product commercially, quite different to non-commercial free add-on creation. ;)
  12. It is not uncommon to lose situational awareness in the heat of the combat. And this comes in when that happens, information comes in parts as a soldier continues to analyze the situation....purely due to the heat of the combat... contact left close...multiple enemy inf....100 mtrs or contact left...multiple enemy inf with UAZ....200 mtrs..moving-away/closing-in or contact left close...multiple enemy inf....NW-100 mtrs. or if the threat is not immidiate, soldier gathers all the data and tells in one go.. Usage of azimuth depends on the position of the squad/group.. When talking to your buddy next to you "enemy 275" is no better than "enemy left" and it does not worth the time lost to figure out the exact direction especially when the threat is immidiate. It means a lot to include a ref point and giving a position of enemy to a friendly group away from you..like from my position/from your position/from the radiotower. Depends on the situation you are in. So it is OK to have vague references for a contact at first but a more detailed info should follow immidiately as you are assessing the situation. Also note it is easier to asses 0-50 mtrs immidiately then ranging 150 or 250 mtrs...so.. "contact left..enemy..25-50 mtrs" should be expected rather than "contact left ..enemy..close/near"
  13. Why the screenies look 100 times worse than the video itself is beyond me ???? Resize issue again?

Don't get me wrong, I totally support your cause and what you are trying to say. Yet I differ on the means and methodology and cannot understand why you are punishing yourself and your own mod. You are keeping yourself from sharing the joy of a professionally done work, hours of hardwork which will be used & respected by many. This I cannot understand, especially for something done for enjoyment and provided for free. What I am trying to say is -> addons are "nice to have", they are not a must. People will not hang themselves, or stop playing just because cant have UKF or BIS will not start banning every other player who uses some addon for their clan promotion. For me the best slap to any thief/disrespectful player is a great release, and a community of players around your mod, with lots of bugreports & praises in your Mod thread/page.

The only answer the community can give to copy-cats is "not using their work" and "not allowing their work on their public servers". One line with your release would have been enough for us to disregard any copies, unofficial releases etc.. Something like "Please do not download or use other illegal & poor copies of UKF which are not upto our standards. Official UKF mod will be announced, released & updated thru this page only" endof.. PS...every addon maker wants to get praised. This is part of why they release their work. ;)

It is not this community or some part of this who screwed you....it is some guys from your own group who have nothing to do with this community. It is your decision to release your work or not and you cannot expect all the community to feel indebted to you/your-team just because you decided to share your work with them. Eventually, members of the community will pay their respect to the creators just like they do to all the other brilliant mods but not when you demand it.

IP can only be respected by the users of the mod and I've seen that this community gives the original creators of a mod the real praise they deserve when that group genuinely trust the community enough to release their work. On the other hand there is no point of doing something that you no longer enjoy doing. Yet the fact remains, for every mod that takes this sort of path, that they take the word (an apology) of a few more seriously than the praises of this community. Maybe this what they really deserve, an apology & 0 downloads.
  19. Check your ace_keys.hpp under folder Dta .. special keys listed there.
  20. 1-Read BIS wiki on Server administration 2-Run your server with various mods, have multiple crashes. 3-Read my post again then it will make sense to you. idea is not to make a white list because there are too many mods for servers who want to allow all except selected few. If you want to allow only a couple, you can use verifysignatures.
  21. Addon / Mod Management Command: KickPlayerWithFile={mod1.pbo, mod2.pbo, mod3.pbo} or ExcludeMods={mod1.pbo, mod2.pbo, mod3.pbo} where each file is one selected from each mod. Description: Option for excluding certain mods/addons without the usage of verifysignature. It should kick the player on connection. Reason Some mods can crash server when played on vanilla arma servers, need to be excluded. Server Admin may wish to exclude certain mods but allow all the other mods where signature verification would be next to impossible to implement. Command: KickPlayerWithoutFile={mod1.pbo, mod2.pbo, mod3.pbo} or RequiredMods={mod1.pbo, mod2.pbo, mod3.pbo} where each file is one selected from each mod. Description: Option for excluding players who does not have certain mods/addons. Similar reason. EqualMod = is not flexible enough to handle pbo's in different folder names. If the player does not have the listed pbo, it should auto-kick the player on connection.
