    Where is the bmp

We had a show for several high ranking civil persons last week, lots of armor and even a Mi-8 Hip were there to please the crowd. Most interesting though was a BMP-1. I went to check it out and noticed that boy it's a small vehicle after all. It had a really low profile and the turret was very tiny. I started thinking about BMPs in OFP, and especially their size. I think BMPs are bigger in OFP than in real life or OFP soldiers are like 1.50 meters tall Anyone else seen a BMP close up and noticed the same thing? // cam0flage

Why didnt they keep night vision like this!?

denoir I know what you're talking about, most headsets are horribly uncomfortable. The finnish VV2000 gives a terrible headache after about 10 minutes. I'll always remember those 2 hours i had to wear it, it was like torture or something I feel sorry for Sisu XA-185 drivers who have to wear those on 6+ h night marches ... // cam0flage

Why didnt they keep night vision like this!?

In real life it's pretty hard to spot a soldier with night vision gear, especially if their form is broken, by for example putting twigs etc. into your helmet and so on. We play a lot with night vision gear, and i have to agree that OFP night vision really sucks. Even our russian-made first generation NVG looks better We were pretty bored one night last week while camping out in the woods, so we did a little field experiment: One of us walked about 500 meters away from us, and lighted a cigarette. The cigarette shined like a small sun, and was very easy to spot. Next the guy tried smoking using a AA machine gun casing; it only helped a little, the cigarette was still totally visible. What do we learn? Never smoke cigarettes on a guard duty 2nd generation NVG would be fun in OFP, i tested brand new finnish NVG VV2000 couple of weeks ago, i have to admit the difference is huge when compared to the first generation gear. The picture was much more sharper, almost like daytime. // cam0flage

    Snipers

Häyhä once told in an interview that he preferred to use iron sight instead of a scope, because it made his profile a lot lower. I'm a military police sniper in the finnish army, when i got my training they used Häyhä as a prime example; he spent most of his spare time practising and fixing his rifle's sights. We were shown a field manual of russian snipers during our training; #1 in their target hierarchy are of course snipers, but it also said especially finnish ones. // cam0flage

    Operation winter march update

I'm already a big fan of this mod. I think the eastern front is much more interesting than the western one. KingBeast, if you need any background information etc. drop me a message, i own a lot of literacy about operation Barbarossa. I'll try to answer as quickly as possible, but it might take a while because i'm in the army right now. // cam0flage

    Military Humor

Tydium, don't ask me for details Yep, the story is probably just pure TH, but rumours are meant to be spread It's true that these rumours circulate and change all the time. The best ones i've heard are probably the story about Hell's Angels entering the ammo dumps at Santahamina, or about the lunatic who swam from Isosaari to Santahamina. // camoflage

    Military Humor

The lost SISU XA-188 I currently serve as a military police sniper (158 days left  ) in the finnish army, so naturally i hear all kinds of stories, but i have to admit this is one of the best ones around. Last week i talked to one of my old friends from the military police company, who now serves in the anti-tank company. He told me there is a lieutnant in the anti-tank company who has a suspension in promotions, because he had lost a SISU XA-188 APC when the company was camping out in the woods during the winter. The lieutnant had driven the XA-188 into a deep hole, and covered the hole with a few camonets. During the night there was a heavy snowfall and temperature was very low. The result: In the morning the XA-188 was nowhere to be found, and the whole company searched the area by hitting the ground with wooden sticks. The same lieutnant has a really bad memory, i heard he has also lost 3 assault rifles during camps. Below is a picture of the vehicle the lieutnant lost: // camoflage

    Camouflage and cam patterns.

Here are some pictures of the finnish m91 (model 91, from the year 1991, of course) combat uniform. It includes a kevlar helmet, combat vest which protects from shrapnel, and a belt with 5 pockets for equipment. The gear also includes a very advanced model 95 gasmask, and the uniform itself has a layer inside which offers some protection against NBC weapons. There isn't a different uniform for winter, but instead a hooded jacket and pants which are used over the normal gear. // camoflage
