I think some of the command menu 'commands' are bugged or don't register when you play in single player. For example in the editor or a single mission when you order your AI men to go 'Safe', they don't. Yet they do in the multiplayer mode.

This is how I do it (for testing): 1. In the mission editor put yourself as a recon unit and the harrier (grouped to you) 2. Put an anemy vehicle down (without fuel to stop it moving about and ammo) 3. Preview. 4. As the recon unit select your laser designator and fire it at the enemy unit e.g. bdrm 5. DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. Don't use the command menu or click on anything. Just keep the laser pointed at the target. 6. The harrier will eventually fly over and say something like " laser designator at..." 7. DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. Don't use the command menu or click on anything. Just keep the laser pointed at the target. 8. The harrier will start to slowly circle overhead. After about 6 or 7 'laps' it will break off and come around and bomb the target. Unfortunately this process can take around 5 - 7 minutes and seems to work about  7 times out of ten. It's not guaranteed. I think the problems might be that the harrier doesn't fly out at a great distance to align itself up. The max range it flys out to is about 1900 metres and it's turning circle isn't tight enough to enable it to line up a straight bombing run.

Me again  Yeah it's an issue. In my 1.04 (505 Games) you could make headshots without them cying out "Arghhhh!" and alerting their comrades. This made stealth and using silenced weapons a valid tactic. In 1.05 a headshot registers as a torso shot and so they react by shouting "Arghhhh!" and everyone knows where you are. I did some testing in 1.05: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....;st=300

You're the commander and looking through the commander's veiwport. Hold spacebar down and right click on a vehicle in to order the Gunner to target it. Press left ctrl to order the gunner to fire. Hold spacebar down and press F to order the gunner to switch between shells and coaxial machine gun. If the Gunner is using the coaxial machine gun, left ctrl tells him to fire / cease fire. In order to get the Gunner to switch between HEAT and Sabot. Select him (function key eg. F2) and in the command menu under Action slect the appropriate ammunition.

Mr Reality: To order the gunner to fire, press the left ctrl key.

The enemy AI is a frigging nightmare I'm playing the single mission Night Strike and I crawl near a bush and peer through my sights at a guard on a watchtower. I'm about 20 metres away and I can see he's not wearing any night vision goggles. I assume a kneeling postion and suddenly he turns around and shoots me... As I mentioned earlier in this thread, even when you manage to shoot an enemy in the head with a silenced weapon, their loud "ARGGHHH!" alerts everyone in the vicinity. I did some testing in the mission editor (in daylight). Test 1: I did a "How far away can they hear you walking before they react and shoot you" test. I can sneak up from behind someone within 15-20 metres and then they will hear you moving. Test 2: I then placed 2 enemy units at varying distance from each other (one facing the others back). Me---> Enemy 1---> Enemy 2---> I then shot the one nearest to me in the head with a silenced gun. In order for Enemy soldier 2 not to hear the "AARGGGGHHH!" of Enemy 1, he had to be at least 82 metres away. In version 1.04 you could use stealth tactics - headshots without the cry. For any future patches I'd really like BIS to consider releasing Beta versions.

One thing I don't like is that headshots are no longer a viable stealth tactic (singleplayer). In 1.04 I could equip myself with a silenced weapon and shoot an enemy with one shot to the head and they would die instantly without shouting out. In 1.05, I shoot someone in the head and they still die instantly but this time accompanied by a loud vocal  "ARGHHHHHH!" and everyone knows of my presence The AI littlebird doesn't fire on enemy infantry. I managed to get the laser designator working once. But every time time I try to replicate how it worked that one time, nothing happens.  Â

Does anyone know how to get the AI Harrier to drop it's laser guided bombs?  I've lased the target vehicle, ordered the plane to 'target laser' and tried all sort of command permutations and the AI says "Engaging" and then says "Negative".  Grrrrr... Is it just because the Harrier is too fast? If a slower aircraft  was modded in would that work?  Edit: I'm using the 1.04 to 1.05 patch.

So with Sahrani being quite a large island, I thought it might be a good idea to point out some interesting places to visit - especially for mission designers. So here is a little template for people to fill in on areas that they find intriguing. Place name: (Name of village or city? Â Does the area have a name? If not, make a name up and christen it Map location: (Grid reference encompassing area) Brief synopsis: (Small description of area e.g Valley with woods on the right - perfect for ambush missions. A bridge with towns either side, etc...

Try holding the spacebar down and then left clicking.

Thanks for the reply raedor I hope BIS decide to go with the bugtracker, it certainly looks more user friendly and informative.

Someone reported a bug in the ArmA General forum. It was closed by Hoz and the poster was directed to the ArmA Community Bugtracker. Now that was first time I've seen that link and site and to be honest, it looks like a fantastic resource for the developers. How come http://bugs.armed-assault.net/main_page.php isn't stickied in: ArmA General Arma Troubleshooting Arma Multiplayer ?

The new sniper rifle is in one of the US ammo crates. I think it might the US Special ammo crate.

Eurogamer review is up. 8/10 http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=73025 "Right now it's an essential purchase for anyone interested in war simulation or tired of the contrived drama that fills mainstream military shooters."

New review form GameCentral (TeleText in the UK Channel 4 / S4C page 307) 7/10 (from what I remember) Pros: Near-infinite potential as the most comprehensive war sim on the pc. Editor, great multiplayer. Cons: Short single player, minor bugs, confusing options, unfairly competent AI.

colt replied to vilas's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Yeah, I's like to see a standardised weapon / vehicle / armour balance that modders can adhere to. Maybe a locked and updated sticky thread in the mod disscussion where a table of agreed values can be put. And with co-operation of fansites, they can also pin a copy of the table in their forums and websites. That way the info is spread around the ArmA community reaching many people. -
Just browsing http://www.armed-assault-zone.com and they report that PC Zone (UK) have awarded ArmA 84% http://www.armed-assault-zone.com/forum....id=1870 Â for more info. PC Gamer will also be reviewing Arma next issue (Feb 15th) and may have a demo - although details about what the demo will consist of aren't available. Personally from what I've read from the more constructive posts on various forums, I think scores of 80% to 85% is bang on the money.

Aww man... When you gotta' go, you gotta' go. Think I'll break out the whisky and listen to King Heroin tonight. Peace out Godfather.

Well I only play single player but I still downloaded the demo and have been messing about in it. My specs are 4000 amd, 1 gb ram and 6800gs. Res 1074x768 (although I'm quite impressed by how it looks on 800x600 - the only downside is the action menu font at this res). Shadows, post proc, AA anit trop all off, everythng else on normal. According to Fraps, averaging 25 - 30 fps (dipping to low 20's  round lots of vegetation) on the demo co-op mission. Although to my eye everything seems to be running pretty smooth and importantly, I haven't been killed due to stuttering. I'll probably write more detailed thoughts once I've played the single player demo and bought the 505 release. In the meantime: The Good + + Graphics. Very nice, the whole world feels vibrant, solid and alive. No more of the OFP paperish feel. + Collision detection. Another major gripe of OFP has gone (well, as far as I can see). + AI. Although still prone to some daftness, I've experienced the enemy flanking me, circling and killing me from behind. One time I managed to get in the city and bumped into an friendly soldier making his way through a corridor. Seen some bounding overwatch. Bit Ropey / / I'm not sure the 'copter should bank like that. / Tanks seem 'light' when driving about. Skidding. Bad - - Voices. Bloody hell...! It sounds like the cast of Looney Tunes. - Vehicle rusting. Shooting the tyres gets this horrific texture. Yuck. - Vehicle sounds. Same whine from OFP. Not so much the sound of a tank approaching as a rogue vacuum cleaner. - Map loading. Enough said. In short it looks like ArmA, like OFP, is another rough diamond. I'm looking forward to it's 505 release in Feb.

I'm in the The Illuminati To be honest it's quite boring. However, there is a very valid and important reason why we manipulate, coerce, sabtotage and create social upheaval. Now, the reason won't be clear to anyone now or in the near future but believe me hundreds of thousands years from now our plans will come to fruition and the populatin of earth will finally know... ... who gets to eat the last rolo.

Cheers for all your efforts. All the best for the future.
