  1. I for one, am very excited. Now I've got this AND Game 2 to look forward to, and hopefully, one of those 2 will be amazing (maybe both?).

I really, really think that CM knows to keep the "huge scale" thing on the priority list. Lets not forget that Operation Flashpoint sold a ton of copies, well over a million IIRC, and CM is not going to try to alienate that fanbase. They're saying that they're going to make it "very realistic" and they seem to want to appeal to the fans of the good ol' OFP in that press release. Now... normally, when a game is going to get gutted, they say stuff like "we're trying to make it appeal to more gamers", "we're trying to streamline the gameplay", and other BS. Here, they're saying it's going to be even MORE realistic.

Quotes like this: "Building on the original game’s heritage, Operation Flashpoint™2 will see the most realistic modelling of conflict scenarios in a new contemporary theatre of war. By offering a multitude of military disciplines, gameplay will deliver warfare more realistic and intense then ever before, while an extensive multiplayer component will create battles on an incredible scale." AND "promising warfare on a scale never seen in a FPS" - are not designed to draw in the "boxed-shooter" fans.

I have high hopes. Lets not forget CM was responsible for Resistance (right?) which turned out great.

And yes, competition is a very good thing.

That screenshot looks amazing BTW, I don't know why people are skeptical that it's in-game, this game is coming out in 2008 which is a LONG ways away. Crysis is coming out in only a few months and it looks ridiculously good.

Codies were responsible for Red Hammer, the not-so-good expansion imho. Resistance is BIS' thingy.

  2. Good news smile_o.gif Competition is always a good thing.

By the way there is no indication in that article that OFP2 will be a BF type game. It says something like "As you can expect from a Operation Flashpoint, you get a large scale single- and multiplayer war-simulation in a current scenario with that game. The gameplay should be as realistic as possible. A large selection of military disciplines will allow you to find your own role in the battle. The graphic engine will be a shooter-variant of the Neon-engine. Screenshots and videos of Colin McRae Dirt can show you what the engine can handle."

They also say one of their editors has spoken with the programmes and will talk about his impressions tomorrow on GameStar TV.

Oupsie, I misread it and didn't read "Singleplayer". *editing*

  3. http://gamestar.de/news...._2.html

I only found it on the german gamestar site, there's nothing I found in Codemasters' official press releases. Well, according to these news they plan for a release in 2008. It's designed to be a single- and multiplayer war simulation, the gameplay should feel as realistic as possible. There are different classes one can choose.

edit: Well, the title should say "Operation Flashpoint 2", sorry. If a moderator could edit that, I'd be very glad. Thanks. smile_o.gif

Someone claims that in the new edition of the german gaming magazine "PC Action" there's a SP Demo of Armed Assault.

    Quote[/b] ]Armed Assault Einzelspieler

    Armed Assault Single player

In our exclusive singleplayer demo of the tactical shooter Armed Assault you do two missions. In the first mission you perform a cleansing operation, in the second you learn how to fly a chopper in ArmA.

  5. Atleast i have to DVD drives in my system to try out. confused_o.gif

    so do i...

changes nothing. or maybe it has problems with both my drives...

but i also wouldn't count on it being the securom protection. i don't see the drive being accessed while playing the game. if it is securom it's probably conflicting with the game engine somehow...

    btw...

Quote[/b] ]no it has SECUROM and 14-20FPS max @ highend systems

that statement is a little exaggerated...

in one of the single missions where you have to clean a town of OPFOR soldiers i get VERY playable FPS with very high details. in another single mission however it's totally unplayable no matter what settings i choose. it always depends on where you are and in what direction you are looking.

I removed the Disk while playing and it neither let the game crash nor did it improve the performance a bit. So it's probably not the protection checking the DVD all the time, but maybe something colliding game engine - protection, as you pointed out.

  6. The Mil Mi-17 (Also known as the Mi-8MT, NATO reporting name Hip-H) wink_o.gif

Oh, I thought that the Mi17 was also referred to as "Hind", not only the Mi24.

See, I still learn something in ArmA. biggrin_o.gif

    Thanks for clearing that up.

  7. Some new stuff. I played with the settings and now I'm running on these settings smoothly most of the time. I've got the german version, so Securom most likely kills my performance.

    AI vs AI.

USA: 4 squads of Infantry + 1 stryker. Guard waypoints

    SLA: 4 squads of infantry + 3 T72. Search & Destroy waypoints

The amount of units had no noticable effect on the frame rate imho.

Group 1 and 2 are staying in the wood, while 3 and 4 sprint to the little farm, attacking the SLA. The AI can perform something sometimes. wink_o.gif

  8. Hi Bör, interesting to see your screens.

I have a very similar system to yours (1.7Ghz, 1gb RAM, Nvidia Go6200) and was wondering how it runs for you? FPS, etc..

It runs so-so. 1280x1024 is unplayable for me, 1024x768 is ok. I also discovered that the parameters

    \ArmA\arma.exe -maxmem=700 -dxlevel 8 -nosplash

hugely improved my performance. maxmem for using more RAM and dxlevel 8 for using DX8 instead of 9. Now I can run some things on normal with no lags. smile_o.gif

    Screens willl follow.

"-dxlevel 8" does not do anything. Test with and without it and I'm sure you will see no difference whatsoever.

OK, I just read it in the performance thread, so I stand corrected. biggrin_o.gif

Then it's just the maxmem-parameter I guess. Works fine though.

  10. Quote[/b] ]Its mostly because ArmA isnt all that new (especially compared to OFP, hell, OFP had vehicles so that was 15 bonus points :P ), and most magazines use the 70-80 score as the 'for the fan' score, which is probably given because it doesnt look like crysis, it doesnt have any new groundbreaking features (which are easily shown to the average reader) and its 'just' an 'updated' version of OFP in the eyes of the average reviewer

I don´t go ok with that. While testing Arma I was talking to the reviewer of Arma for german Gamestar magazine, who´s an old OFP fan and certainly was delighted about the "new" OFP she had to test. She took her time doing so and we ended up in a darkened room with the test-computer running debating Arma in detail. She knew what she was talking about and certainly had a huge pile of knowledge about OFP, Arma, pro´s and con´s and wasn´t just talking about something she had no idea about. Infact I was very surprised how much she knew about OFP and Arma and how split she was on the product Armed Assault.

I learned my lesson, I also had thought that reviewers are some guys and girls jumping from one game to another hastily. It was not the case. The opposite was the case. She took her time, plenty of it and after me testing Arma we both talked about the same bugs in Arma that really disappointed us.

In her words: I love it, I hate it.

Sums it up best. Don´t be so fast with prejudice gentlemen. You might be proven wrong, as I was.

There are things in Arma that can be debated, but there are things that simply don´t work and things that have to be fixed.

I´m tired of debating bugs over and over again. I will sit back and wait until the german guys will show up here after the release. It´s not about personal likes, it´s about solid bugs that have to be adressed and I´m sure they will be adressed. Still it´s a miracle to me who all that bugs didn´t surface during beta. confused_o.gif

I already have the german version, bought it today at a store in Vienna. biggrin_o.gif

And I agree with the german magazines.

  11. My first impressions: The game has still its edges and BIS would've needed some more months to polish the game. The game is not optimised, there are a few bugs here and there, the flight model is utter crap imho and a few other things.

But as an OFP fan I'm still in love with the game. I only need a better PC, my PC (XP2000+, Radeon 9600XT, 768RAM) has serious problems on the lowest settings. :/

  12. - vehicle control is unnecessarily complicated

    - too difficult for newbies

Hmmm...Am I the only one who sees those as positives??

Not if they add to the depth, realism and functionality of the game, as they'll likely do.

I'd like to add this also to the not necessarily negative things

Quote[/b] ]- anonymous soldiers rather than individuals

Maybe I misinterpreted: They say it's negative that you don't have individual characters no more like in OFP, but rather anonymous soldiers.

  13. I just read that german magazine PC Powerplay rated it 76%.

    graphics 8

    sound 9

    controls 5

    atmosphere 7

    multi 7

    "battlefield atmosphere"

I've got info on the pro and contra of PCPP's test:

    + grandiose Schlachfeld-Atmosphäre

+ Vielzahl an Waffen und Fahrzeugen

    + riesige, detaillierte Spielwelt

    + viele Möglichkeiten zur Squad-Kontrolle

    + mächtiger Missionseditor

    + von Grund auf mod-freundlich

    + abwechslungsreiche Kampagne

+ KI-Soldaten, die zwar alles können...

    - ...aber nicht so richtig gut

    - unnötig umständliche Vehikel-Lenkung

    - schwammige Steuerung

    - anonyme Soldaten statt Bezugspersonen

    - für Einsteiger zu schwierig

    - vieles unfertig (Texte, Missionen, Physik)

    + terrific battlefield atmosphere

+ heaps of weapons and vehicles

    + huge detailed environment

+ lots of possibilities to control your squad

    + a mighty editor

    + modfriendly

    + a diversified campaign

+ AI soldiers that can do everything...

    - ... but nothing really well

    - vehicle control is unnecessarily complicated

    - the controls are too cumbersome

    - anonymous soldiers rather than individuals

    - too difficult for newbies

    - a lot of unfinished things (texts, missions, physics)
