Wow, thumbsup. If you can get this thing running smoothly, I'll take a trip right over the border next week.

    The so-called "grown up" community

I've got to vent my anger about some people. We all think to know the OFP community as a bunch of people getting along nicely with each other, helpful all the time. We often see people calling the OFP community one of the most grown up. I'd say, yeah, there's a lot of nice people around in this community. And now there comes the big ugly BUT: Only as long as they stay in said community. As soon as some guys come out and conversate with other people about ArmA (or BF2...) they start to misbehave... flaming, insulting, you know the game. It always goes like this: 1. In a thread about Armed Assault someone says "Graphics are utter crap. I'm not going to waste my time on THIS". 2. A few guys keep their temper and respond in a well behaving way. But still there come the not-so-well-behaving guys and start to flame, something like "BF2-Kiddies should go back to their game for idiots, OFP/ArmA is for real men! It'd be best if you and all of your idiotic community would die!" 3. The flames have begun... Or the topic has even nothing to do with ArmA, but it's rather one about BF2, which is visited by a guy telling everyone how dumb they are playing BF2. It's the same whether I'm on english or german forums, though I'd say it's a little worse on the german ones. I keep asking myself: Why?! Why are those idiots making fools of themselves, so everyone believes the OFP community is a bunch of kids that still go to kindergarten? And why the constant crusade against BF2? What has the game done to you? I hope some of the mentioned guys read this and might really be on the grown-up side next time, when they debate in a sophisticated manner next time. Thanks for paying attention.

    Confirmed release dates and countries.

It just occurred to me that, being American, that I was reading the dates wrong. For my fellow Americans, here are the "Americanized" dates. EU&others 505 Games q1 2007 (See "Countries included on 505 distribution" section) Austria Morphicon 11/30/06 Czech Republic BIS&JRC&CQE 11/10/06 Germany Morphicon 11/30/06 Poland Lem 11/10/06 Russia Akella 11/28/06 Switzerland Morphicon 11/30/06 Slovakia BIS&JRC&CQE 11/10/06 Not that any of them make much difference for us, since there's no American publisher (yet... at least I hope that is the operative word). isnt austria supposed to get an english version ? Why should Austria get an english version? We speak german as well.

    ArmA Progress Updates

Pilsner Urquell is nice, true. The formula I believe is: Beer production plus beer imports minus beer exports. So a tourist drinking/buying beer in Czechia counts as a Czech and it's not a 100% accurate. Nahnah, Austria's in front of Denmark.

    ArmA Progress Updates

The czechs aren't known for their vodka, they're known for their beer. No wonder they've got the world's highest beer consumption. Budvar is a really great beer. I guess I'll have to drink some while waiting for the demo... edit: German gaming magazine Gamestar looks for some people to test the game with them. http://www.gamestar.de/news....er.html Munich, Germany.

ArmA has its strong points elsewhere, take the view distance e.g.: The coders' goal is view distance of 10km on a 3 ghz machine. Or take the object density: The little villages of OFP have grown into little cities. In some missions there are easily 200 soldiers, tanks and choppers. The developers have placed nearly 2 million objects, animals, plants and persons in the editor. "There's no limit in the editor. Preconditioned enough calculating power, you may place as well 500 units. "We've tried to implement havoc physics. But if 50 tanks are rolling at the same time and start firing at each other, even high-end machines capitulate". So ArmA uses a revised version of the original physics system. It isn't rich of great effects, but it's authentic. (regarding the "Change soldier"-feature) Have we got 4 lives now? "We haven't decided yet", Victor answers. "It would be a good idea, that you can only change your character if you got killed, if you're playing on the easiest degree of difficulty. In the solo campaign (which will take 15-20 hours and thus won't be as long as the OFP one) the game will keep account of weapons, vehicles, soldiers and fronts. (about MP) The developers estimate 64 human players plus 100-200 ai combattants, in futere there may be more possible. "The problem is the network. Our engine can take a lot more players, the only problem is the sheer amount of data that can hardly be transmitted via internet", Vicotr Bocan explains. [...] We transform the whole island into a huge arena, we estimate that a game will take about 12 hours, including day/night changes. A constant supply of fanmade mods should be ensured as Bohemia will supply an all-embracing editor (or release it shortly after release). The modding community will be pleased to hear, that old maps can be converted with some work. "Maybe we're successful in automizing the conversion. But work on this tool is taking a lot of time." Conclusion "In a sense ArmA is nothing more than Flashpoint with modern technology. But to be honest: I don't want anything else. At last I can participate again in those gigantic battles, finally I can again teach the AI a lesson with some friends in cooperative mode. If the MP-mode is really as cool as it sounds, I'll quit Battlefield 2 at once. I appreciate the gentle innovations, excluding one: I would rather have characters with who I can identify myself. Those are the most important points imho.

    Arma around the world

I believe there is more than one german native speaker who is willing to translate the text into english. I hope we can set up a little platform (outside of these forums, as we don't know if BIS will allow this work on their forums) where we can distribute the work, organize a little and do the work a lot faster. Count me in to help translating, if we can create such a group.

I want to add that this is the mentality of only few of us! Every true Austrian loves the Kaiser.

    Arma around the world

There's two of us. Gott erhalte, Gott beschütze Unsern Kaiser, unser Land. Mächtig durch des Glaubens Stütze, Führt er uns mit weiser Hand. Laßt uns seiner Väter Krone Schirmen wider jeden Feind. Innig bleibt mit Habsburgs Throne Österreichs Geschick vereint. *sing*

You Käsefresser aren't very popular in Germany judging by what I read when posting on german forums. j/k I'm sure there soon will be a translated english stringtable for ArmA after it's out in Germany. When it's out, there should be a thread for it to coordinate work, I'll be surely participating.

    ArmA Progress Updates

It'd be great if it was like Soldiers: HoWW2. I know it's a RTS, but we're speaking of dynamic destruction, so I mention it. Do you know Soldiers? You can destruct every building rather dynamically. Here's a video, showing you a little destruction in minute 6.20. In MP the system's even greater. Imagine german infantry supported by some tanks slowly advancing through a small village, when being detected by some russian spotter and then you let your 5 Katyushas do the job. *howliehowliehowlie*, all the buildings get hit, crumble piece by piece and the whole village is no more than dust.

    Where to buy ??

amazon.com and amazon.co.uk deliver perfectly to Germany&Austria, I'd think it's the same vice verca with amazon.de I see those threads popping up everywhere on the forums, asking what "Nehmen sie Montignac, treffen Sie sich mit Trupp Bravo und bereiten Sie Verteidigungsstellungen für den gegnerischen Gegenschlag vor." in the mission description means.

    Confirmed release dates and countries.

I've read somewhere around here (might have been even in this thread) that the czech version will have english spoken language - I guess I can live with that if it's the same for the german one, though I'd prefer an all english version. I hope I won't make a trip to Czechia and buy the game there by accident. I'm still curious how it'll play out. We'll see.

    Confirmed release dates and countries.

I agree wholeheartedly - despite my native german tongue (Austrian), I've always played OFP set to english and was expecting ArmA to be the same, now my only hope rests on the download version (should it happen, that is). Austria est imperare orbi universo. I'm curious what the spoken language is like in the czech/german release. English, Czech, German? Text willl be localised, but what about the spoken thingies? Primarily the question for me is, if the czech version has spoken Czech?

Firefox works fine and enlarges the pics for me. Sorry, you were right. It seems as if GS changed this lately. But when I access the site with firefox it shows me the enlarged versions for free. I'll hotlink the larger versions of the pics.

My German is bad, but I think this says that you have to be registered to watch them in full size. German is my native language and I know what GS:Premium is about. It isn't connected to the screenshot section, be assured. You don't need to be registered. Just click on Bild in Originalgröße anzeigen above the picture. /me waits for bör to actually click on that link I've actually clicked on that link and it gave me the picture in 1024x768 instead of 800x600.
