  1. u should also study the basics of matrix operations. absolute/relative movements(analitic geometry) are calculated with transformation matrix. even for shaders u use them...so i guess its a good idea for u to learn some general basics.


  2. if the uv map is done correctly in max, it should be easy in o2.

    what I usually do is...divide the model mesh in 3 or 4 parts, acording to number of textures i want to use.

    then export from max the 3 or 4 parts of the mesh in separated 3ds files. then i import one by one in o2, and for each one i designate the correct texture.

    if ur importing to o2 and after u apply the texture on the model, u cant see the correct result, there's something wrong with the uv map. maybe the channel of it, or texture file format(tga) or texture not multiples of 8.

    i had a great time with u and trevor last night. i finally could play without losing connection.

    funny that i retried (at late night) to play in a random 10player server, and i got disco again after 2 or 3min...i did all the sugestions u mentioned here, and watch the bars up and down, like they should be.

    finally last night i droped the barrier of 1:40!! i made a 1:39:54 in a far from clean lap. that means i can get the 1:38 for sure with this car set. maybe is time for me to go singleplayer and try to (re)set my ride...

    i think is somehow related to players geting in and out all the time...

    hope to play u guys again soon!!


  5. well, this is more like a sugestion then a question, but i'm gona ask anyway... having some thousands of hour playing MP ofp with my friends, i got used to having only a maximum of 5 or 6 lines of text messages displayed. if there's a lot of plp in the server chating ( we all hope arma brings full servers again), sometimes its hard to read all messages...eventually u'll lost some lines and ask the other guy to repeat it...

    in many other games,when in mp mode, u have a larger text window, usualy to big in my opinion...

    so my sugestion/question is:

    will arma have an improved chat box? my sugestion is, have 2 versions of chat box. one large and the other one with "classic" ofp dimensions. then u can toggle window sizes by clicking a key or combination of keys (ctr+"x"). it works like a "history" of messages. can be very handy for sure, and its simple code work.

    this is probably the smallest detail someone mentioned here, but my intencion is the best... smile_o.gif


  6. thanks for the game this afternoon guys. i cant remember the name of who sent me the setups... i can go 1sec faster now after some practising. got the 1.41 now many times.

    still, i just cant figure why i lost connection in most of the servers...1st i thought it was kids kicking me, but now i realized there's a problem with something that escapes me...

    i tryed to ctr+t, but still lose conection...i'm running lfs_s2_alpha_u folder, havent used the s and t patches...is that the reason?

    hope someone can figure this out for me.

  7. where can i find a decent setting for the demo track?i searched the oficial forums, but didnt like the settings i found there. my time is 1:42, i guess i went to 1:41 once ( i saw guys doing 1:34) so i guess my car can improve a lot, and so my driving skills.

    dam i'm addicted to this game ...hope to find ofp plp in the server tonight.


  8. i just tryed the game last night and i'm surrendered to the realistic feeling it brings...in the other hand i'm so disapointed with demo servers online...1st one i got in i just say " hello everyone!", and the answer was "hey blackjack shut up". cant get used to this kind of comunity, so where's my ofp fellas playing? e-racing? i'll join the forums there and try to meet u online.

    and y i think i'm gona buy this game soon. meawhile i will get some other ofp friends to this game. meet u here or in the next race!


  9. my question is about shaders, not normal maps...normal mapping are textures, and u must have them to creat an addon.

    now shader's are pieces of code, that generate several passes/techniques to the objecs. u ever tryed rendermonkey from ati?...that should let have a good idea of how shaders work.


  10. downloading demo and patches now...i miss a good racing game for years! last one i played was cm4 and trackmania (arcade game).

    does the beta work online? i wont buy a game for 35euros without trying it first (online).

    having ofp team would be awsome! great idea!


  11. i cant see any information (other then we users will need shader 2.0 suport videocards) about the use of shaders...so i will ask here.

    Will users be able to create their own shaders and aplly it to an addon? or is it hardcored on game engine and bullet proof?

    in other words, if i add an .fx file to the addon folder will i be able to tell arma engine to use it in some parts of the addon mesh? maybe through the config file and named selections.

    hope this isnt to technical question, but since we'r gona have dx materials, i presume it would be possible.hope so!

Importing models from max can actually screw the model mesh sometimes...it happened to me before. but there are ways to avoid it. what i do is importing the model in pieces, creating logical selections of parts of the model. u can do it in 2 ways,depending the kind of addon and the amount of textures ,but concept is the same,and both usually work well. for example in a vehicle,when using max, select weels, chassis, interiors and export them individually. if eventually u have a bad error on the mesh when importing to o2, u just need to rework 1 part of the model, not all.

    another way is doing a Xform modifier before exporting to o2. i cant explain exactly what it does to the mesh, but i guess it resets something inside the file settings. when u import the mesh it is usually fixed and there r no more fliped faces and other errors.

    the comunity version of o2, plays with features (low-level features u mentioned fab?) of the models mesh, that other programs dont ( that i'm aware)...for my unfortune i cant truly control many of them.

    but the duzens of top quality models Fab did/does with o2 for the comunity, speak for themselfs...o2 does the job, it maps well, but its not for the common people... notworthy.gif

    i'm sure o2 version used in bis, is somehow more friendly.


  13. there's a FREE "high end" 3d software avaiable for download called BLENDER. u can find it here at www.blender3d.org .

    anyway that possibility u explained seems to work fine , but its a long way to do the same thing (uv mapping a model). i know that learning a new software isnt easy/friendly... but the end result is pleasing and "no pain, no gain". this all depends on how far plp want to go with their work.


  14. i agree with most of the addon makers opinions here. ofp addons are 99% of the times acurate vehicles, that are supose to simulate the real existing vehicle. having the lego system working (proxy concept) will cause a sudden plage of weirdo's addons. whoever feels that he would like to create his "dream" addon already has the tools. its from our nature to always demand more, so i dont pull myself aside of that. so what i would like to have in a next o2 version is some "small" features that can be found in most 3d software...

    -modeling: having the basic options of "edit polygon". that includes extrude,cut,weld,chanfer,etc.

    -texturing: a better uvw maps, and unwrap tool. normal maps auto creating tool would be nice (like that free tool from nvidia).

    -animation: ofp animator already does a lot of stuff, but maybe some kind of bones system would be handy, and so an exporter/importer to other softwares.

    -rendering: o2 preview window is good enough

    so i just ask bis (and very sure of it) to maintain a simple tool like 02light, but updated to the XXI century whistle.gif then we'll be all happy again!

    i have questions for u...since we use tonal in our server i would love to be able to replace old island by this one. is there any chance to make a simple replace of the pbo island, or do i need to add a lot of suplemental addons? i mean ecp,csla,etc.

  16. i think BIS made a really clever move with the wikipedia. personally i'm more then distracted with it, until the arma release. since we know ofp basics are present in arma, why dont u learn how to :

    -make missions

    -make addons

    or just play ofp with your friends.

    i still play ofp everynight with my buddies in vetsquad, plp still make new maps for it, or in my situation study addon techiniques.

    now with the wikipedia i can start working (new) addons features like normal maps, animations,scripts ,etc.

    so why moaning BIS crew and specially forum moderators, with this kind of post, that takes us nowhere and gives not any kind of profit?

    i know this is a democratic forum but come on!... banghead.gif think on that plz.


  17. very clever surprise from bis! wasnt expecting nothing in particular (since demo was out of question) , so this made me really happy. the wikipedia reveals MANY details on how arma works. great reading and lot of info to digest.

    personally happy to, for having my addon on that list.but thats secondary.

    ty bis, and take ur time...we have something to keep us busy now.


  18. i agree with u guys when u say this looks a bit overpoly. the most overpoly thing i see there are the wheels. u cant have duzens of detailed bolts in each wheel. othen that i would say the roof eats a lot of polys to, specially the roof end edges seen very chanfered.

    good question...i never found any tutorial about normal mapping a car, but the technique basics are the same. what u need is to like offtime says u need to find a compromise between textures with NM and polygons.

    i really liked the model so far, and i'm almost starting my practise exercices with normal mapping in ofp models. what 3d engine u guys using for previewing normal maps? real time engines i mean.

    if u need some help i think i have some links here to related subject.

    about the addon, i've just tryed it and i liked it. flyes well, and looks well to. engine has a lot of (nice)details. is the engine textures using the metal shadder? looks so...

    the only thing i dont liked it, is the engine (bis stock) sound. if i'm not wrong ofrp alouette has a very nice sound engine. but that's a small detail afterall, what counts is the overall, which is very positive. plus u just wanted to leave ofp in peace which i understand and apreciate the nice move u guys had, to leave us something to remember the swedish team.

  20. jeeeez!! materazzi is a killer! no idea that he beats like that. so i presume that referee gave zidane a red, just to protect zidane integrety against materazzi...cant image what he would do to zizou after the headknock. maybe a bycicleshot in the throat?...grab zizou balls until he goes purple?! lucky zizou i must say!!

    those kicks to shevechenko/inzaghi/rui costa are still hurting me..


  21. almost 1week and 500 views after i post this addon here, there's only 1 coment...does it mean that:

    1-it's so unatractive that u dont even want to try it once.

    2-u tried it, andt it sucks!

    3-u dont play ofp or try new addons.

    4-u want a new addon, like a m4 gun, matchbox or a pink house.

    5-wc issues dont allow u to post here.

    just wondering about if i should have the trouble to finish this addon...i know nobody asked the addon, but since i had the will to do it, i would like to know for things to change/improve.basicly do it the most perfect way i can.
