    congrats to argentina and awsome goal in the extra time. didnt see germany match so no much to say except congrats to! so tomorrow is my team big match against holand.the statistic is on our side.in the history of portugalXholand matches we won 4,draw 5 and lost only once. but i dont buy statistics so we really need to give all we have on those 90min (hope we solve the game without ExtraTime). wish me luck and my prediction is 2-1 for portugal on the 90min... FORÇA PORTUGAL!!

    i've been looking to some planes cfg and to that old bis file with all the classes description, and i cant find any reference to wings elevators/ailerons axes and angles. so for my unhappiness, i could confirm what LizardX just told me. its hardcoded so there's not much i can do. so bye bye realistic wing, and hello again static wing!.. meanwhile i'm almost finishing the textures for the main lod.been working with photoshop, and finaly made a decent texture for the engine headers/pipe. very happy with the result, finally made those weldings look real.i'm still experimenting diferent cammo, and thats the hardest part...still cant found a texture that pleases me...but its getting closer to end i hope. cya soon.

    we had some luck today, but without luck there's no champions right? 3rd victory in a row and only 1 goal against...and 5 key players didnt played today so i guess we'r good enough for the next stage. FORÇA PORTUGAL!!

    hello all. its been a while since my last post, but i've been very busy in this last months (luckly with a 3d project, but not for games), which makes me learn a lot of (aparently) small details/techniques on the process of modeling/texturing/rendering. at this moment i'm baking textures for this model, so that i can use the minimum amount of pac/paa files, and still having a good compromise in the visual quality. i believe this is something that will be mandatory for arma addons , so i decided to start using that method now. so this is what i'm doing at the moment... now there's some improves i still want to do in my addon, and for one in particular i need some information.so i'm gona ask without making a search (hope i dont call the atencion of boys from somewhere like uKrania ). so basicly i want that my deltawing reacts in a realistic way. when it brakes it moves pitchdown/stall, when it "acelerates" it goes pitchup/dive . when it turns it turns slightly. i've been watching some movies of deltawings and that's how they work in real life. so i thought..."i'm gona use the name selections from the elevators and airbrakes" and create separated selections with their correct name on, and select the intire wing for all them. i'm sure this is possible, but my question is how do ofp phisics deals to those selections? are they hardcoded? can i define the axels name selections? the min/max degree of freedom. is there a minimum speed to activate air brakes, or the elevators when turning? which addon that uses a similar feature should i study? as u see i have couple of questions that need an answer, so before i start working on the wing feature, i'll finish my textures and start texturing the low poly lod's. fyi i'm thinking on adding a "radio" feature like i did in the rf8. it worked really well and it seems logical to have it in this kind of air vehicle. so instead of listening the engine sound all the time, u can listen the tunes who want, just placing a sound file in the mission pbo, and call it a specific name like "music1.ogg" or something like that. i hope to finish this until end of july so i'll keep posted.any sugestions/help is apreciated. ty!

    today the Portuguese team had an important step on the wc. i couldnt see the 2nd half because i had to go for a weding party, but from what i just saw on the news we did a superb goal from Deco "the magician", and a no doubts penalty kick converted by Cristiano Ronaldo (Figo had some free and uncensored beating today...shame on that stupid referee team, i hope the iranian guy gets banned.a kick like that in the face can cause severe injurie) so 40 years later after the great Eusébio portuguese team, we did survived the group stage of a worldcup. i sincerely hope this team can get the final (like euro2004) against brazil. about the other matches...i was chocked with cz!! italy didnt surprised me that much doh... cz is my "favourite" team (except my PORTUGAL off course) on the wc. karel poborsky was a great player that i had the chance to see playing live by the time he played by benfica(u still remember that supergoal against portugal in the euro96? ). he was the best on that time. nedved is just magnificent (how was he today?),check is the best goalkeeper alive (coached by the special one ), milan barros its not my style...but i know he's good. i prefer the 2.00m and 100kg buldozer u checzs have(injured now for badluck). cya next week by the time we beat mexicans (i'm 99%sure we'll wipe their asses), and good luck for everyone from any nation! really hope the next stage of the wc qualifies only the really good nations, and not the lucky ones.

    just remember now that we have wc2006 thread on bis forums...so 1st of all, congrats to PORTUGAL, and their shy win against our comrades from angola. Figo made a great job, remembering why he was elected best fifa player some years ago. deco was injured so he couldnt play, and that was noticed on the field...simăo replaced him (dont we have a better attacking midefielder? ) and i really hated his performance...so now we have an easy match against iran, and then the last and hard one against mexico... i hope we can terminate mexico "salero", but even if we lost, we´ll guarantee our pass to next round. congrats to germany to. plp complained about their absence of a key player (balack couldnt play), but i really disagree. they have a very solid team with really nice/solid passing lines. portugal has some 8 superstar players, but has a team they still have a lot to practise... england...i think we gona meet in the quarter finals...if the match will end in penalties, my advice is to avoid beckam...wont ever forget ricardo taking his gloves out and defending beckam kick. (most intensive match i ever saw). so in few hours we'll have cz against usa. i really like cz team for a long time. poborsky played in portugal for some years (xcelente player), but my favourite is pavel nedved. hope cz cleans usa asses (wont ever forget usa won portugal in wc2002), and i'm betting 20$ on cz at online betting site. so u guys think cz will win to? hope so... meanwhile good luck to all teams, specially Portugal... FORÇA PORTUGAL!

    ARMA addons

    what i've been doing lately is learning the normal mapping techinique... basicly u build a very high detailed model and a low detail model (low detail is the one we want to use ingame). then u place the 2 models overlaped, and then bake textures so u can have the low poly model with great detail. its a "fake" detail, since our normal maps textures will create a lot of bumps, but wont add polygons to the mesh. i've been working to with a nvidia plugin to photoshop, that creates a normal map from a bump texture. the results with it arent bad at all, but i think i'm cheating when using it...maybe not! surpher posted this link in a thread i started few month ago. it basicly explains it all very well. normal mapping so far we dont know how animations will work, so i dont even looked at it. there's pluggins for maya and 3dmax to import export animations, but only for ofp so far(that i know). it would be great to have such pluggins for arma. we need to wait a bit more for that i supose...

    ukranianboy dont come here and post that crap like you do most of the times...if u eventually read my question, i asked who's working on 3d models to be used in arma, and in that case to show them here. and if u bother to post crap like that at least point the threads links so we can see. but it's no need...i know what threads are that, and no, they arent exactly what i'm talking here. i'm sory if i sounded rude, but this isnt the 1st time i see this crap happening. so can we plz keep the thread talk here? TY BergHoff that link u posted give me a dam weird screenshot...but the funny thing is, by this afternoon i saw the same pic and worked fine...maybe the error is here duno.. but that's the only screenshot (3dmax rendering) of something being done to arma. and it looks awsome!

    downloading now and will test tomorrow...meanwhile, based on the screenshots and from the addon maker point view (plz dont take me wrong..i want to add some positive critics here) the textures on that black "cadilac" screenie ,with punk dude on the driver seat, seems to close to the white tone ( causing that weird magenta color on textures). tires havent texture to so they look kinda flat to... i'm curious to see how the truck trailer + cargo works. 2 pbo's with a 3rd pbo attaching them? 1 single pbo with hide/unhide ? instead of trying to guess, i think i'll test it and give a look on the cfg... keep giving us addons plz
  13. great stuff man!! i guess will give a try on island making with this tutorial. i work with max 7.0 for modeling/texturizing at the moment. i cant install version 8.0 until i finish a college project i'm involved (my mates using version 7.0 to...), but i'll try it when i'm free.

    i agree this should be a sticky thread made by moderators, similar to avon lady FAQ link. (very usefull) i think u missed the questions/answers related to: Q: are ofp addons adaptable to arma? (the vast collection of addons we (addon makers) made to the comunity through this years are priceless.same goes to all the missions made to date, so this is something really important for all us...) A:so far we know they will be somehow importable/easly adapted. Q:will arma 3d engine use normal mapping? A:yes Q:will we have any bis editing tool for addon/island ? A:i'm not sure what's the current bis statement, but bis had mentioned that an editor (similar to o2) will be out someday... if i remember another important question i'll post or pm you.

    i agree with majority of the ideas presented here. nice post btw... i hope that,by this time, things at BIS are already planed and almost done, relating to arma final features. so most things are finally done. even so, many of this SUGESTIONS could be usefull in the future. who knows? just want to give my 2 cents about 1 small thing. as the day we all expected (aa release) is getting closer, the number of "parachuters" posters is increasing. we all see the coutless posts that placebo and moderator team have to close (99% of the times with all justice), majority of them by stupid people demanding ALL the kind of features, or asking questions that were asked a zilion times,etc. i dont think this post has that kind of silly questions or ideas, so i dont get the point to say what some pleople said to Dwarden. so if u have enough ofp hours + some usefull SUGESTIONS why not share them? take care! now i'll come back patiently to my "waiting arma" corner..

    MOTO cr250

    has a motocross guy and a cr250 owner (for a few months) i gota say u have to work this bike a lot. the list of things to do and to get improved is long... the most visible things are: -engine sound is really bad(i know it isnt easy to find a good sound file, so maybe stick with the klr sound, even if it's a 4stroke engine) -the tires/rims of my bycicle are thicker then those u made(make it thicker and get a tire texture) -at 1st i would say there's no textures in the bike, but after a 2nd look i see you used some grey ones. duno how u aplyed the textures but they arent good at all.(get cr250 paint scheme in a fast google pic search) -i know a cr250 is one of the fastest dirt bikes, but it wont go to 180km/h that easy.(u got cut top speed) -many of the bike parts, like side panels, mudgards, handlebar look kind of weird( remodel it) these are my sugestions, and my intencion is positive, so dont take it wrong. i really hope u can improve this bike. if u need more sugestions let me know! we'r here for it!

    normal mapping

    everytime i see a new arma screenshot i try to found any "evidence" of normal mapping on there, but so far only that shiny tank made me have some suspicious of it. only recently (3 months ago) i started making some experiences with normal maps and realize the power of such technology. to be honest i really dont bother to test/try other games(yes i'im a nostalgic) but after watching some titles (like FEAR) i was impressed with the quality of those textures. many other titles are using normal mapping, so from what i was told , so i guess this is becoming a standard on new games. from one of the 1st bis interviews i'm almost sure i remember them saying that arma uses bump mapping. well...bump mapping isnt that bad at all, but it hasnt the same power of normal mapping. for the tech guys here, that look to screenies with diferent eyes from the common player, is there any suspicious about this? another tech feature is culling (almost sure its called this). i recently saw a demo of a 3d engine that uses this technology. its basicly a feature that allows a 3d engine to ONLY render what is visible on the camera view. it has some controlable parameters, and fov (field of view) is the most important one. it works combined with lod feature, so it's really friendly to the fps of a game. i remember someone skilled from ofp forums telling that ofp renders ALL the visible/invisible objects loaded in a map. that's why we lag like hell on maps with hundreds of models. i can only wish that arma engine has something similar to this. make our missions less laggy with a similar technology. i'm not sure if this features are only possible to use in small scenarios games like fps. really hope their not. hope i'm not asking anything taboo here, so plz coment if u have any info about this. cya soon!

    normal mapping

    i just picked this "old" thread to talk again about normal maps textures. after today's screenshots i really am tempted to start working on a new addon that can be used in arma someday. i wonder if there's someone already doing that around here...? get a couple of good ofp addons, and give them normal maps instead of the old difuse maps. we wont have a preview of the addons like in o2, but we can have a decent preview in some good free sdk 3dengines or renderers (max,maya,whatever u want to use). the purpose of this idea is just to warm up some techiniques we will need for sure,not making arma addons. by the time bis releases some new editing tool for us, we will know how to implement 3d files in the game . for those who never created a normal map from an existing texture, it is very easy. u can find a free plugin for photoshop in nvida website. it works really well. so what u guys think about a thread on this subject? will bis alound us? if not let me know plz.

    thanks for answering my question BergHoff! i missed that part of the interview where they mentioned without any doubt the use of normal mapping. to the other posts...i know what's normal mapping, otherwise i wouldnt mentioned it. and also know the difference between the traditional bump mapping (greyscale textures) and the normal mapping (uvw colored map). i made some simple tutorials related to normal mapping and yes the results are awsome. that's exactly why i was so interested to know if arma is gona use it. but hey! i can be tottaly wrong and normal mapping can be just an eye candy for the kids and smokes the 3d engine just to process it. by the way...is there any reports on that? since its solid that we gona have normal maps on arma, could it be a rock in our foot relating gameplay? really hope not, and i think i'm gona start to learn how to make a decent model with normal maps and custom shaders. and FYI..i'm really not an "eye candy" games customer. it's down on my priority list...but hey who doesnt like good graphics anyway!? ok now i'll go back for arma countdown...     small update i've been really busy lately with a big 3d project on my college, so the few time i had since last month was spent on the texturing/cfg/animation/p3d. so far i made this woodland cammo, and maybe i'll make a desert to. so far the engine is the only part with a crapy texture. hope to release this very soon, since its almost done. want to enhance footmunch great help solving some issues on the cfg. very much apreciated bro! btw: has u see my screenshots talents are very bad...the good thing is that parvus promised me some kick ass screenies for the final version.

    in case ur interested i have some 6 or 8 models from a 3d colection rdy to be adapted to ofp. they arent very high poly, so basicly its just needed to replace some parts like wheels (currently they have around 500polys per wheel) wheel drive, etc. if u want to give a try on them pm me. other that your models look fine so far. keep the good work.
