  1. the reason for the bad reviews seems to steem from the fact that BIS made armed assault too powerful to FULLY enjoy on certain people's machines.

i honestly think that they put a bit too much on the graphical side and not enough on the little things (like tactical reloads, shooting from vehicles, more air and land units). the one thing they put most of the energy into is the one thing that never mattered to it's fans.

this game is harder on my machine than GRAW, DOOM 3, and FEAR (all of which i ran rather smoothly), and armed assault did not have to be graphically beautiful. armed assault's strenght lies with the player having control of large size forces in massive areas. if you make large cities on one big ass map, most players are going to have problems running the type of missions that they are accustomed to in OFP or vbs1.

the graphics needed an upgrade, but i think it went a bit too far and my fear is that many in the community will not stay with it. hopefully, there will be an island editor and some of you guys could make some small maps that have built up urban areas for urban warfare that won't kill our machines.

i will say that the open areas are great and the combat is awesome, just wish the cities could be more understanding. confused_o.gif

  2. well, it seems that many of the complaints lodged towards AA is by people who have either low end computers or a lack of patience.

i just DLed the game and i think that it is very good. yes, there are bugs, but if my memory serves me right, ofp had the same problem.

i also feel that the units could have been done better (lack of difference between various unit models), but the game has just come out and there will be many mods down the road.

be honest, did most of you guys REALLY like the way ofp was when it first came out? the answer is no. the game was good, but the modding community made it great, and the same will happen to AA.

all the complaints are justified, but you should not question your purchase this early of it's release. this game looks and plays better than ofp (in ofp's original state), and the future looks better for AA if the mod community steps up again to provide more content.

  3. ok, everything is fine and the game runs like butter. i installed the english patch and all is good yay.gif

the service was good and they were quick to send me an email for support, glad i purchased this game! i have not seen a hard date for release here in the states and the $55 was not too high a price for me.

if you got cable modem, get the download, get the english patch, and enjoy. inlove.gif

  4. well, my copy is installing right at this very moment and i have yet to have any problems, plus i got my confirm email very quickly. during the install, it plays this funky guitar and all that, but the DL went well. thumbs-up.gif

  5. i know, i was going after a generalization (sp)  i'm not SF, i'm just a cadet at the university of alabama, and an e-4 in the alabama national guard, 20th SF group.  i won't be able to go to selection or anything until after college.  it's just my unit.

good luck with becoming an army officer and i will give you a "de oppresso liber" salute, but be sure to show proper uniform standards when posting on these sites.

these guys can possibly use your pics for reference for a future addon and it would be nice if the info is correct. by the way, even though you may not be a "tab wearer", you are still a special operations soldier and never forget that.

the "team guys" got their part of the mission to do and we got ours (some of it includes going out with them), but we are all special operations troops and we have the same mission to complete.

  6. considering i have twelve pair of them in my closet, his are decently accurate, apart from the fact that rangers have ACU everything. not a hodge-podge of tan & woodland IBAs, etc.  everything is basically ACU, and you don't see too many M4's painted desert color.  you're right though, they are more tan IRL.  Edit, i took a few pictures of various things that could help you... also, those are 75th regiment scrolls you see, i'm not a ranger, they were purchased to use as a reference awhile back, and arent even velcro wink_o.gif.  i'm an infantryman in the 20th SF group, alabama national guard.

dude, i'm not going to question if you are really in 20th SFG, but you got a patch on that uniform that is incorrect. the rangers do not wear an airborne tab above their unit patch (the ranger scroll).

they only have the ranger tab, special forces tab (if ever awarded the special forces tab from previous service as a SF operator), sapper tab (if graduate of the sapper course), and the president's hundred tab (placing in the top 100 in a certain shooting competition).

just pointing out some incorrect info wink_o.gif

  7. actually, i don't mind the velcro. also, this uniform is easier to maintain than the BDU (no more starch and press), so no complaints from me. people are having issues with the uniform that deals with tactics and i feel that it is just not warranted. the little "nit picks" will not make a difference in combat (except the camo in certain enviroments depending on the mission) and that is what matters.

the problem with the m16 is that it is to long and needs to be modified with a collapseable stock. it was a headache to have to get in and out of vehicles with this big ass weapon. it is not urban ops friendly and needs to be changed. there are still many units that carry it and they need to switch. the marines love the m16a4, but i find it ridiculous to stay with it. it is a good weapon, but the m4 is more suited for today's operations.

  8. i'm going to give some of you civies some knowledge on the ACU because i now wear it everyday. these uniforms will be used primarily in desert/urban operations, where cover and concealment is about getting behind a building or a car. will you use this uniform for recon operations? probaly not. does it matter when you are on patrol in iraq or afghanistan? hell no!

it all boils down to what mission you are conducting. when i was in iraq, we wore our BDU's on some dismounted night missions because at night (depending on the moonlight) your DCU's could stick out like a sore thumb, but BDU's provided the concealment that you needed when laying in a overwatch position looking at a bridge for a number of hours , so we wore them. would you wear ACU's in the jungle doing a recon mission? no, it's just too light to me. it is all about common sense and the ACU has no affect on operations in iraq and afghanistan because of the nature of the mission.

  9. wip,

let me just chime in on this laser arguement. i have a pac-4 on my m4 with the eotech halo sight. you will not see the laser unless you are using your nvg's. so, i would recommend looking into making an action where you could turn on your laser while wearing your nvg goggles. it is more realistic because you don't see the laser with the naked eye. also, you will see a dot (you can adjust the brightness), not a straight beam (maybe a VERY faint one). now, i know alot of people who seen those type of lasers that you used in your addon, but in the REAL army we do not use that because it would be a tactical hazard (the enemy would see you with laser beams jumping all over the place). just my two cents worth.

  10. wip,

your weapons look great in vbs1 and i just want to say that i appreciate your work. also, for those people who are having a problem with the sound for the silenced weapons, just de'pbo the file and change the weapon sound file yourself. not hard and then everyone is satisfied wink_o.gif

  11. here is a couple, did'nt bother to make it look super outstanding or anything:

    vbs1

Vbs- delta operator (i added the flag on helmet)

vbs1- Delta Medic (changed the white armband to white)

vbs1- heavy contact during network play.

    vbs1- convoy ambush (user mission)

    vbs1- convoy ambush 2

HALO chute- rework of VKUMustaparta addon- WIP

    HALO 2

    addons used:

    VBS1- Core Island

    CAT-Afghan Map

    SF pack for vbs1

    ADF pack for vbs1

    DFRecon addon for vbs1

    VKUMustaparta addon from ofp

  12. ok, i found an example of what i'm talking about and it is the puma 330 (resco) for operation frenchpoint. you will notice the position of the squad leader and the team leader. they are both positioned near the door, with the squad leader in a crouch and the team leader standing. i wish that the squad leader could be the one standing so he could have a clear view of the ground to see the DZ and give the exit command. that is what i want to see happen for the c-130, just new positions.

  13. thanx apollo, but i've already tried that and no such luck. i took a look at the antonov addon and it was a bit close to what i'm talking about. basically, i would just like to see cargo positions for up to twelve units right at the ramp. makes it look like they are about to perform a halo jump. so, instead of sitting in cargo seats, they would be standing in a two-man column single file line directly in front of the ramp. so, when you give the command to lower the ramp, you can see out the rear of the aircraft and then give the command to prepare to jump once you hit your trigger telling you that you are near the dz. i'm thinking of hawk's c-130 addon being the aircraft to modify. i don't know how to do it, so if anyone has the talent, please create it (after you get hawk's permission of course) wink_o.gif
