the_real_chaser, Â Â ok, i respect your wishes in wanting to make a mission for a game based on a real actual mission, but your first post really bothered me. first, you don't seem to have your facts straight about what actually happened that day, by calling it a failure. that mission was carried out and completed, but at a cost, not a EXTREME cost, but a cost none the less. you have to understand that at a time when americans were not used to american soldiers being in harm's way and getting killed, 18 dead american soldiers sounded like 2,000. as a soldier (army paratrooper) i saw it differently and i felt that the fight was lopsided and the somoli's got decimated. 18 dead in that type of fight is truly nothing from a military standpoint given the circumstances, but to the civilian who did'nt give a damn in the first place, it is a failure. that is why civilians should kick themselves in the ass, because they should've be more aware and supportive of the armed forces before we lose our lives or when tragedy strikes (9/11). i feel no sympathy for those that have fallen. they were warriors and they died a warriors death, they died doing what soldiers are suppose to be doing and possibly getting killed in a firefight is one of them. it was the damn politicians that failed and whenever you send soldiers to do a mission, you don't end the mission until the mission is complete. TF160 should have been allowed to finish the mission, especially after the events on oct. 3-4, because it only showed weakness in the hearts and minds of the american people, not the american fighting man. the only thing that bothers me is some of these rangers reactions to the whole thing. i respect them highly, but some of them really need to shut their mouths and stop whining about how "some of their friends died for nothing", what! they died for you and all the other men on that operation. they died in combat, not drunk driving or a training accident (which we have alot of), they died a soldiers death. granted, the politicians would not see the mission through, but that does'nt make your fellow soldiers' death less significant. it made me pissed off to see and read some of these rangers talk like that and made me question their effectiveness and why in the hell they signed up to be rangers in the first place, was it for the black beret (it's tan now and they cried about that) or just to be called "elite". in spec ops, you will get asked to do things that are not entirely good, as a soldier it is not your place to ask "why are we here?", but instead its "what must i do!", they get the missions that conventional units don't do, the down and dirty missions. they know all this, but a hand full of them sounded like a bunch of draft dodging hippies after this fight and warriors don't do that. i just wanted to get that out in the air and as a real soldier, i can say what i want on this subject, because i'm serving right now at this moment. so, the_real_chaser, if you gonna make a mission about TF160, it would be better to make it a backdrop and use the circumstances in recreating the battle. using real names and all that is a waste of time, make up other scenarios and new missions. try and be original, don't copy the same formula like all the other bandwagon jumpers are doing after one viewing of the movie (which was a good movie, but watered down). also, ask and do research before you go off and release something that is like a hollywood production. realism and accuracy is what alot of guys are looking for in this game, please maintain that standard. well, i'm sorry for the rant about the rangers, but i'm passionate about being a soldier and it pains me to see soldiers talking like civilians, especially when it concerns fellow comrades that lost their lives for them, not for a cause or the american flag, but for them.

suma, ok, let me see if i understand you correctly. resistance will have no affect on previous addons from opf, during any version? i'm asking because i think that there should be some concrete information on what will happen when i upgrade from 1.46 to resistance. i have alot of addons that i don't want to give up and from what i read in your post, nothing should happen to those addons (except some sound packs) when i get resistance. so, could you please clarify this issue and give a more detailed account of the affect the upgrade to resistance will have on previous addons (for example, would it look crappy or buggy). thank you.

adammo, brother, i have a better understanding of where you are coming from. i'm cool and i did'nt mean to come off as a jerk in my previous posts. it was a total misunderstanding and no problem exist between you and me (on the gaming level). to be honest with you, i think you got great talent and i can't see how you can't make this for 1.46, because i think that alot of people may not upgrade. the reason i think they won't is by what you just posted, that all the other addons they got won't look good in resistance, that would suck, no matter how nice resistance is. well, i'm going to ask suma and i hope that maybe he will shed more light on this issue. peace and keep up the good work.

adammo, ok, i just read your last post and i appreciate the clearing up of this model issue, but i went through this thread and let me tell you something... i'm one of those "95% of the community" that don't know everything about this game. here is a little bit of what you said: Adammo .. Group: ModMaker Posts: 73 Joined: June 2001 Posted: June 24 2002,15:48 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just got this from CM: "We are pleased to inform you that Operation Flashpoint: Resistance (PC) CD Rom is launching this Friday 28th June 2002. Visit the official website at: http://www.codemasters.com/ofp-resistance" btw, once its out and people are playing it .. I will release the choppers... I textured as you can see and upgraded the choppers to version 2. In doing so I also upgraded the choppers so that they will only work in Resistance. I don't want to worry about people complaining that they can't put the choppers in version 1.60 because there is no editor to be found (in 1.60) to create missions with the little birds.. now, i took this as you saying that you had working in one version and then decided to have it work in only resistance. also, you should know by now that crying about not getting paid and that you don't have to release anything falls on deaf ears around here. you are not the only guy with talent in this community and there are others making these choopers, so you are not god. i also don't care about making friends around here, i did not disrespect you or anybody else, so that comment was not even warranted. if you felt that i misunderstood what you are doing, just say so! you don't have to go into all this crap about making friends and not getting paid for your work. dude, i have no beef with you at all, i'm just looking forward to work and i'm just surprised that you did not keep a version of your choopers for 1.46, when some of us will not get 1.60 for awhile, that is it.

it is just a bit strange to me that the lead programmer for the game is saying one thing and adammo is saying another. why would you make a version for resistance, when you could have made a version for 1.46 and it still would work in resistance? i have yet to hear of when the north american version will be out (which is what i have), so we are kinda left blowing in the wind. i really don't see any good in this, when adammo could have released his work that would benefit everyone. well, this is his creation and he can do what he pleases. i'm just trying to bring up a point that it could have been made in one version (1.46) and still work in the other (1.60/resistance). oh well, i just have to wait.

what am i talking about? take a look at the first thread of this forum and it will tell you what i'm talking about. the developer himself said that resistance will not affect any addons that are out and it does not matter what version you have installed. better yet, here is what he said: Suma OFP Lead Programmer Group: OF developer Posts: 1318 Joined: June 2001 Posted: June 26 2002,08:52 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As thead created by Avon Lady few days ago caused some confusion about what will be necessary do to before installing Resistance, here is summarization: Before you install Resitance you do not have to do any preparations. You do not have to reinstall Flashpoint, you do not have to remove any addons including Gunslinger's editor upgrade, you do not have to remove any sound packs including Dynamic Range sound pack. No matter what addons, missions, campaigns or sound packs you have installed in your OFP, you do not have remove them. You can install Resistance over any OFP version You can install Resistance over any OFP version, including 1.00, 1.10, 1.20, 1.30, 1.40, 1.42, 1.46. Even when you have MPTest 1.60, it does not matter - it will not interfere. All addons will be accessible from Resistance All custom addons you installed in OFP will still be accessible from Resistance. The only exception are most sound packs, which are technically implemented not as addons, but as config modifications. All missions and campaigns will be accessible from Resistance as well, but some of them may show error messages due to more strict addon management. Singleplayer mission will be able to continue after the error message, in case of some multiplayer mission it will be necessary to edit them on server. Edited by Suma on June 26 2002,10:12 -------------- Ondrej Spanel, BIS Lead Programmer now, maybe there is something wrong with your addon and it may need some tweaking, but the head man say's that resistance will not be a "resistance" in you using previous addons. so, are you going to say the lead programmer of this game is a fool or will you do what you can in getting out your work. i'm not flaming you or anything like that, i'm just putting out info. for you guys that are putting addons on hold because of resistance. i'm just saying that you don't have to wait, that is all. all of us in the community really want to get to use your work in the game and have fun, that is all. we just would like to see it released, not to pressure you, but if it is ready.... then let her out.

adammo, i sent you an IM concerning your little birds, please check it out. also, suma say's that no addons will be affected by resistance, so get those mh-6's released to the community, because we want those babies! great work by the way!
-
vixer great work!!!! so, how about looking into making a MH-60L with an open cargo and no seats, plus have the soldiers ride with feet dangling like in your pic in the first post in this thread? is it possible that you will make it? judging by your work so far, i'd say it would be a breeze for you guys (but still hard work).
-
eviscerator, i sent you an IM concerning another issue, please check it out.
-
why has noone made or working on a pavehawk or blackhawk that comes without the troop cargo seats and the right side door of the troop cargo area being taken out? i would like to see an addon that has the soldiers with their feet dangling from the bird on both sides of the chooper. you can also have a "chalk" leader in the middle behind the cockpit. i want to see a blackhawk just like the ones used in "blackhawk down", would look awesome with a rappel script.
-
looks good, but where are the textures? the weapon is completely white.
-
yes it can be done, but i think only through scripting.
-
lansen, i left you an IM and i'm willing to do the config file. just get it to me. great work!
-
is this going to be released? if so, do you have an ETA?

"Dynamic Range" OFP Soundreplacement out now!
bugkill replied to Satchel's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
satchel, i really wish that BIS has taken the time to download this pack, so that they realize how much their sounds sucked!!! they should fire the guy (or maybe have you train him) who made the sounds for this game. it is like they only concentrated on the enviroment sounds and forgot about the warfare. i really have to give you credit on an absolute awesome job with this soundpack. i have been waiting for something like this for a awhile and you have made this game 100% better. i thank you for your time and hard work, it is greatly appreciated. -
a c-130 is not that big and it would fit perfectly in this game. i want my paratroops to exit from a faster moving aircraft than choppers. also, it just fits better and is more realistic! BIS, if you read this: release a c-130 and the russian equilavent for this game!
-
yeah, i know! but i think it should be considered a possible idea to create large cities that could be added to the islands. i don't know what it would take, but i think that there are some people out there who have the talent to create cities for this game, it would be fabulous!
-
konyak, is it possible that you could realese this as an addon? i think it would be awesome if you could! great work!
-
i was astounded by your manhattan post and i was hoping that you could send it to me. i don't have photoshop and i would really like to have that island of new york, please respond back.
-
well, the fact is that some units that are not specifically trained for winter operations use what they have already. i have served in infantry units at fort bragg and fort campbell and we did not have winter camoflauged clothing when conducting trianing. now, when a unit deploys to a real world situation and it is winter time, they will be issued the appropriate type of clothing to conduct operations in that enviroment. units like 10th mountain and the airborne unit in alaska are already equipped to fight in those conditions, because they typically train in it. if you are stationed at a unit that has mostly hot weather, you will not have the equipment that you would use in a "harsh" winter enviroment, but we have trained in the snow during the winter, just not for long periods of time. with the right equipment, we would do fine.
-
fishu, i sent you a message about this. please check it out, thanks.
-
hey, make sure that you include regular infantry soldiers (the ones with kevlars) and the medics (please, no armbands) with desert uniforms. i also think that you did a good job.
