Kegetys already answered that one. The water and nvg textures are checked by dxdll. Afaik the crc32 checksum of the first quarter of the first mipmap level is checked. So if you know how to compute that and can find that value in the dxdll you should get any and all water/nvg textures to work. I was not even able to find a good readme about the paa/pac format and my tries with some paas and a hexeditor have not been very successful

If you need subdirectories "tree /F > files.txt" might be more the thing you want. You open a dos box in a folder by opening your windows menu, click on run and type in "cmd". In the dosbox you can change to the drive you want by typing its letter followed by a colon, eg "c:". Then change to the folder you want to by typing "cd folder\subfolder" or "cd folder" followed by "cd subfolder".

Maybe your webserver does not deliver those files with the right filetype, like application/xml or text/xml? Just guessing here though. But as this stuff gets delivered from the webserver you can exclude the firewall if the rest of the webserver content works.

Since i bought my 6600gt i always run ofp with dxdll and its just sweet This is one of the really cool mods as it can be run with ANYTHING in ofp without conflicts, like using ecp and finmod at the same time won't work.

In Resistance there are two possible network codes: directplay and sockets. I think nobody except fdf is using dp anymore So maybe you are looking for the wrong (=dp) servers?

please answer my question Afaik there will be no new version of Y2K3. As PB didn't alter the pathnames the new ecp and Y2k3 can't even be installed at once. And ecp does not use different models afaik.

As there seems to be a great difference between online and offline play, there seems to be a great difference between belonging to an "online community" or not. When we play, we usually play with the same core of players and some "publics". We use teamspeak and coordinate efforts. Gameplay is a whole lot different to public play. I played yesterdays with nobody i knew, everyone else was public, and it was horrible. I can't remember when i had teamplay that bad. But that doesn't mean that MP is bad, it just means that those players were. If you frequent the same few servers whenever you play, and if those servers are run well, you will get an experience that is quite different from your typical public games. This is the same in all online games i have played so far. In a "community" the admin will likely restart the mission for you when you join, even if you are not a clan member. You will be able to talk to the other guys and they will be willing to cooperate. Without this, SP is no doubt better than MP, because the AI may be lacking in skill, but at least they are not malicious. This is nothing new, we sometimes close our server to just play with friends and we beat harder missions with fewer player than with publics. Because, as has been said before, bad players are not a matter of "they do not contribute" but more a matter of "they destroy the mission for everybody else". If you are supposed to sneak by tanks cause you got no at and guy throws handgrenades at them, or if the only at guy in a mission goes off wandering somewhere else to let his team be killed by the tanks then they are more harm than use to the team.

I this really so? I tried putting that in the server.cfg but got a error message: } found before ; Thats why you put it into users/player/userinfo.cfg

Hehe, netbios over tcp/ip is the port 445 i mentioned above iirc. Because of that "firewall blocked it but no log entries" do i advise to turn them off for a short test. Also funny, you use exactly the two firewalls i would avoid, especially norton ;) Check owner and permissions of the file (right-click, properties, security tab). That is why it is best to have one and the same account on both boxes (although this was only really a problem for me when sharing between home and pro).Oh, and btw: if you don't have a security tab you can get it by fiddling with "use simple shares" setting (see here). SpeedyDonkey: i would try without personal firewalls for one time to make sure they are not the problem. Also, you could try to type a connection like \\computername\sharename into the location bar of the windows explorer or mount a network drive in windows explorer. Windows is sometimes stubborn with network computers, recognising them late (an hour or so after they were added to the network). At work we have some computers trying to connect to servers that are gone for several years and not actively configured/referenced anywhere. Lol, no such problems with unix networking ;)

Both running XP home or professional? How are they connected? Both computers to a hub/switch or directly? Direct connect with 100mbit (rj45) is only possible with special crossover cables. If you don't have any other restrictions regarding the network you can use the MS assistant to set up a network. Else you should make sure both computers are in the same workgroup and in the same subnet, eg use ips 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. Obviously TCP/IP protocol has to be installed. You have to share folders on both computers, sometimes windows does not find computers that are not sharing anything. You may have to setup an account on both computers, ie an account with the same name on both computers. As already mentioned, firewalls may block the service too. You could check for ports 135-139 (tcp and udp) and port 445 (iirc). If your network works you can just copy over the ofp folder, export the registry entries for ofp, copy those over too, re-import them and play again.

I'd recommend a root server with lots of traffic. Those are cheaper than gameservers and allow more flexibility.

I guess there are enough people that would want to host this. I for example had planned to put it into our ofp watch as soon as it is out anyway.

If your system is compromised you should run the check from another system. You could try to get an antivirus program for dos and boot from a clean dos bootdisk, or get one of the many linux cds and boot from them. There are av tools for linux that check windows systems for virus infections. There was one in a german magazine c't called Knoppicilin that fetched the newest av signatures after booting and offered 3 or 4 av tools to check your windows installation (there are not really any virus for linux worth mentioning ).

As with any other mod this depends on whether the other mod uses a config.bin/config.cpp or not. If it doesn't then you can use them together, if it does you have to create a new config which incorporates all changes from both (or all) mods.d

Well, it's not too good for the european economy either, but as a european citizen it has never been as cheap to order stuff from the usa
-
Thats the best way, but it seems that it is too complicated for many users, especially if they have "grown" folders and do not even know when they put what where and why

You can delete the whole addons folder, many people never had it in the first place. The only problem could be unofficial addons in the addons folder which are missing afterwards. But if you have duplicate addons in addons and res\addons those from the addons folder get NOT used anyway, so deleting those is safe. For a list of official addons see here and here.

I have heard there are HL2 versions that work without steam. Did not try those though, but talked to guys that have.

Do you mean this: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">grep diff users/player/userinfo.cfg diffArmor[]={0,0}; diffFriendlyTag[]={0,0}; diffEnemyTag[]={0,0}; diffHUD[]={1,0}; diffAutoSpot[]={0,0}; diffMap[]={1,0}; diffWeaponCursor[]={0,0}; diffAutoGuideAT[]={0,0}; diffClockIndicator[]={1,0}; diff3rdPersonView[]={1,0}; diffTracers[]={0,0}; diffUltraAI[]={1,1};
