Hosting on A should work if you allow the incoming connections to the server. As internet is already working for B he should be able to connect too. Afaik the ofp server listens on all interfaces, but B should be able to connect to the inet ip too.

Let me get this straight: on "lesser servers" crcti works great and mfcti lags but on "power servers" (as yours) mfcti works great (could be) but crcti lags (doubt it)? That would be funny indeed. But to come back to your original posting: when you don't know where the enemy base is after 30 minutes into the game you are doing something wrong. And when it takes you more than 8h to destroy it after you have found it you are obviously doing something else wrong. It may be that we never "maxed out our tanks", but we never needed to as our missions are normally decided within 3h. You know we played to win the mission and not to max out the tanks. And i for one find that "you know where the enemy base is and just DEATHMATCH 2h to destroy it" really boring. Because normally one team IS superior to the other by that time and only has to concentrate on wearing down the enemy base. Thats not much fun. The standard mfcti with its "win by total destructing of enemy base" leaves actually LESS tactical options than the crcti where you can win by different means.

The difference is that the v1.1S version uses the m16/xm/ak sound from "S"atchels Dynamic Range: And afaik there is no ofp audigy patch, but there was talk lately about a tool to set pci latency for your graphics and sound card.

Do we play the same cr ctis? Afaik there were old (mod) cticr missions and the newer (total rewrite) crcti ones. In our version each town is protected by resistance and tanks. You have to conquer the towns. Not send one ai to get them. And after that you have to HOLD them against retake from resistance ai or the other side. Of course we rarely play on the standard island and with standard units. Check Medicus post about his cti modification USMC/Laser CTI Finmod CTI Winter Kodiak CTI According to you this should lag as hell, but it doesn't. I also cannot reproduce that "on crcti everyone is losing connection" problem. But you can judge by the ridiculing tone that russin uses that he has not much arguments anyway and has resort to name-calling. Yeah, everyone who does not want to play a 9h cti should go play deathmatch missions instead, he is a whimp and looser. Also i have to admit that the commanders role is less interesing in the newer versions and i also do not like that too much. But those missions are easy to tailor to your own needs.

Use ofp watch. It will show you servers, if there are players on it, whether they are passworded or not and it will automatically download all addons you need to play on those servers. The only time you will not be able to get onto the server is if the admin locks the server for the current mission. Sadly there is no way to see if a server is locked or not afaik.

I find cti missions boring after two hours, but to each his own i guess. Most of the times the winner is clear after two hours and it is just a "lets throw everything we have against the enemy hq" by then which i personally find rather dull. I like the "win by conquering all towns" option some cti missions offer better than the (mostly boring) total destruction of the enemy base. And i think any other version (zeus version or cleanrocks version) of cti has less lag than the mfcti one. The CRCTI missions play on custom islands that are much "laggier" than nogova and perform really well.

I really have not much of an opinion about selling cds with free addons for a small amount. I have a dsl flat, so i wouldn't buy one, but i know of enough people who would. We also burned and shipped cds with addons or missions for some people on dialup. And if take into account the internet cost and time to download 700mb on dialup then $10 may not be much for a commercial service. They sure aren't when you take the working time of burning, packing and shipping the cd into account. I'd say, as long as it is legal and somebody wants to buy those cds then let them. But if anyone objects and does not want to have his addons hosted there like Kegetys i can understand too.

Hmm, and php nuke has a history of security flaws I would prefer something like e107 or similar... But i do not plan to use this service anyway, i am no addon developer and already got my own site. I asked more because of people like Gordy who said he can make no websites himself

Yes, technically it would be possible, you only need webspace with php and a mysql account/table. I just wanted to ask if it is ok with the hoster. Cause it is really easy to get a decent looking site with some cms. They maybe should think about a standard installation for people without the knowledge to install one themselves.

As there is php and sql support, does this mean one could install a cms there? Then everyone would be able to "make webpages"...

Hmm, server does get created and dies at once? Maybe broken addons? Do you use any inofficial addons? Try to put only the official addons into the addons and res/addons folders and start the server without the ofpserver script: ./server If you need a list of all official addons go here You could also check if the files are owned by the user running the process and if he got read and write permissions to the folder the server is installed in. If you still got the error try to run strace -e trace=open,read,write ./server or similar to see what the server is trying to do before it fails.

I tried it and it seems to run as administrator only. As user it would not let me install it and when i ran it as a user it always crashed with various errors. So far i like shoot better...

Maybe a soundcard issue? Afaik there were ctds/freezes with sb live cards and hw accelleration... Also, you should use older drivers for the gf4 if you don't need the newer ones for other games. The new drivers are optimized for fx/6x00 cards and may give less performance on a gf4.

I already do use FatWombats Textures Thats why i will give these a try too and most probably keep using them. But when you d/l the FW textures, make sure you get the corrected version, or you will have missing textures with some other islands...

I would be interested in the opinion of people that tried Shoot and which one they liked better and why. In the VAC forum there was only one statement (the one quoted above) and it has facts, it only states "i didn't like shoot, it was too cumbersome". Well, i tried Shoot and i don't what could be "cumbersome" in it. I am gonna try VAC myself in the next days but i am interested in other opinions as well.

Don't ever do this. This is very bad. Instead open the addon in question, edit the config of the addon and put the needed dependencies into the requiredAddons[] array in the configpatches section. And if the addon has a requiredversion below 1.85 then bump it to 1.85. And notify the author of the addon so he can fix those errors too in the next version.

You can sometimes get around this by putting the broken addon into the addons folder instead of a modfolder. But sometimes this only delays the error and is the cause for not finding the source of the error later. On a dedicated server it is best to put all addons into a modfolder and see if everything works alright that way and fix any broken addon. To fix an addon just bump its requiredversion to at least 1.85 and put all dependencies into requiredaddons[] array in the cfgpatches section.

According to the author of the software it should work with any software and according to some user in the forum they got it working in parallel with ts. So i guess it is worth to check it out.

I tried shoot some time ago and find it quite nice for singleplayer. But it does not work too well with teamspeak.
