  1. So does that mean we can use BIS OFP addons in Arma? --Ben
  2. The player is a client. There is no client on the server (unless it is a local server which is both client and server). On my computer the, player is me. On your computer, the player is you. On a dedi-server, the player is null. --Ben

    Ai needs fixin!

I understand and it's all good, I just don't t like when the bad words and name calling (profanity) is used in a discussion. It brings the whole discussion down. I am pro-BIS because they have given me a gaming experience that no other developer has. Without them I could not play a game of this type and if you agree that there is no other game like this (other than OFP) then you would agree that comparing this game to other games is apples-to-oranges and patently unfair. You can always bring up things you do not like and hopeful improvements but complaints in which a comparison is given is just unfair to this game and BIS. There are just too many things different. There are things I don't like (bridges, for one) but they are NOT a detriment to my enjoyment of the game --Ben

    Ai needs fixin!

Dude you have a nasty mouth and attitude. Is that how your family taught to speak to people? Your comments here sure are a reflection on them. Back on-topic: I do believe the AI will get better ONLY if BI is supported by us financially. The size of the developer has nothing to do with the state of AI. The largest developers have created the WORST AI (COD, Doom, EA, Id). They have no desire to make their AI any better when graphics are all people want. This topic has proven that it is easer for a developer to put their money and efforts into the "pretty picture" because NO ONE appreciates AI. --Ben

    Ai needs fixin!

Very nice and clear explanation Walker. I'd like to add that complaining about something, that has no peer and then comparing it to the same non-existent peers shows a definite bias and dislike of the thing. --Ben

    Ai needs fixin!

Dude you say you shouldn't have to use addons to make the AI better then you compare vanilla Arma to a BF2 mod that has no AI! It's not elitist if it's the truth. You compare Arma's AI to stuff that doesn't exit and then complain. --Ben

    Ai needs fixin!

Do you have a background of playing other typical shooters (COD, MOH, et al)? In Arma you can NEVER square off against the AI. The only they can shoot at you is when you are behind cover. If you are not, you will die. When the AI starts to shoot at you, leave the area immediately: you cannot trade shots with them because you have the same hit points as them. In other games, the player has more hit points and that gives the player the ability to trade punches with the AI. You cannot do that in this game. It took me awhile to learn that in OFP and all new players have to learn this. As an example, my son would always die in missions after the FIRST careless move. When he finally learned that you have to be careful, he started to never die in the game. Many of us have no problems with AI accuracy in the game and that comes directly from experience and play style; you have to play this game in a different way. Also the campaign is not representative of how good the gameplay can be so try out some scenarios the editor. If this does not describe you, please disregard. Thanks, --Ben

    Arma battleye support for 1.09beta

If you are going to play on servers without signed addons and or BattleEye, you have NO RIGHT to ever complain about cheating. You are being given tools in an effort to thwart cheating and ignoring them. Anything after that will be considered whining and should/will be ignored. Great update, this should help a lot. --Ben

Suggestion-list for the final arma patch

This did turn into a wishlist. Many unreasonable requests. Some of you must realize that some things were changed from OFP to allow for a larger, more robust, JIP possible, multiplayer. OFP was mainly singleplayer and it's easy to make everything work in SP but start replicating that over the net and you have problems. ArmA is an MP game now and most of us wanted it that way and for God's sake do not start comparing this game to other games for its missing features: that's old. Two suggetstions for the patches: 1. Fix the bridges in regards to Ai movement or remove the ones that do not work from the game (Does anyone know of the ones that do work so I can blow up the unworkable ones?). This is a show stopper IMO. 2. Allow AI/Unit commands (assignAs, etc.) to work with a human group leader. Right now if I script mounting commands for a group they will ONLY work if the group leader is NOT a player. Thanks, --Ben

    Arma questions

I don't get it. The game is only $40US. Buy it. I've seen people buy $60 console games by just looking at the pictures! You can do alot worse with your money. --Ben

  14. Do people have a problem speaking English tactfully or are they just rude? Oh and the mod is great. It's the Super OFP we've been asking for. --Ben

  16. SQS makes for ugly, hard to follow, compromised code. SQF is also easier to use and more closely resembles what you may be used to if you used other languages. To me, it feels as if my Arma projects run smoother that my OFP ones. --Ben

    Vietnam: The Experience

Chip, no offense, but he is letting you do it IF you don't bug him about it. In other words, "you can teach yourself" because he does not have the time to "teach you". The alternative is to use them as is. --Ben

    Your favourite warfare era!

Col. Faulkner this could work with AI if you have decent human group leaders and a RTS gametype. --Ben
  20. The main thing I look for in a large mod is that both sides of the conflict is created. Take OFP for example. If people are tired of the US versus the Soviets, then what's the point of a UK versus those same, stock Soviets. Create a full conflict and anyone will relate to it. I loved FDF and I44 on OFP because it was complete and made me for the country I was playing for (either side). --Ben

    United ArmA Community

Yes single addons should not be used in MP missions, only full mods. Also it would be nice that ArmA2 would allow you to switch mods within the game. --Ben OT: I will buy Arma2 in the same manner that I bought Arma after OFP. I support ALL PC games that I like. It costs me more to take my family of 4 to a movie than it did to purchase Arma. I've already got more than my money's worth from Arma. Millions of people buy the yearly Madden version and the newer version not only does not fix bugs from the previous year BUT adds new ones and removes features players liked from the previous year. Compare that to people here complaining about having to buy an update every 2 to 6 years. Some people will NEVER be satisfied.

    Arma 1.09  news

I am SICK of all of the weasels creating "disappointment" threads and disguising them as something else. You can't tell me not to read this thread because the thread's title led me to believe that it was just an info thread. If you hate the game, post in the appropriate thread and leave the rest of us alone. Not wanting to hear constant whining does not make one a "fanboy" but constantly whining makes one a "hater" and a total nag. You made your point. We get it, but we/I are/am tired of hearing it. Take your stuff and go. Please. --Ben

    Crysis Impressions.

I am definitely too old for this type of gameplay. The first time I saw an enemy, put 3 rounds into at 20 yards, saw him be stunned for less than half a second, and then continue firing, I knew this was not the game for me. --Ben P.S.: I wish I was younger and more adaptable to these games.

    Tiberian Genesis Mod

Exactly. I found the AI capabilities of the Sandbox Editor like UT' s editor. Previously I wanted to mod gameplay in UT2003 and I noticed that I had to place path nodes! I order to do my mod in another game I would first have to turn it into OFP, then start coding. That's why all other games have to be player vs player only. If that's what you're looking for, it will work. In any case, good luck. --Ben
