Arma beta patch 1.09 - released

I play so that's good enough. --Ben

Suggestion-list for the final arma patch

Combat (especially in Iraq) takes place at a lot closer range than you need a rifle for, and the full-length M16 is unwieldy in vehicles and buildings. You don't need accuracy out to 500 meters when the enemy combatant is across the street. This brings up an on-topic point. Cosmetic items (and this would include damage values, etc.), that can be fixed through a config change, should NOT be on the suggestion list for this patch. --Ben

    MP versus SP scripting

Yes that is exactly what you would do to limit the activation to working on the server only: only I would probably use IsServer instead. --Ben
  4. I hope I don't get into trouble for spamming the thread but I want to say "Thank you BIS". The good news is that all of these addons/mods will be ready for Arma2 and will hopefully be used by millions. --Ben

    Arma is just great !

I guess the game could be as perfect as you Trapper. --Ben
  6. Those faces cannot be changed. It is set like that in their config. The mercenaries' head's are unique to each of them. --Ben
  7. I just found the word idiot, and dyslexia too, lol. OK. --Ben
  8. Q I re-read my posts and I didn't see the word IDIOT anywhere in them! Do you have dyslexia or something in that you see things that are not even there? Where did you get that inference from? If the defense for your arguments is to completely make things up then I would be an IDIOT to even think that I could have a civil discourse with you. --Ben
  9. For those players on the "Game is Flawed camp" I have a question: If Arma2 is just like Arma (pertaining to this argument) will you still buy it.? I will because I LOVE these games and think there are plenty of us that will buy it also. I bought five copies of Arma already. If the answer is no then will you remain in the community, complaining about the game's flaws or leave the community altogether? And if you leave the community will you then play one of the other cookie-cutter shooters or give up MP PVP? I don't think there are any other choices. If there are the please enlighten me as to them. --Ben

Time to update the Armed Assault Website!

I have to agree 100%. --Ben
  11. BIS did not make the controls the way they are to alienate certain players: they are what they are. BIS is also not trying to cater to everyone either. If they were, they would have made a mainstream game. The game is what it is. BIS does not make games based on our discussions. They want to make the best game they can with the resources they have. When things get improved in the game it's because they wanted those things improved and NOT because we yelled and screamed. Whine, complain and threaten not to support them and you will be playing right into hands of the big studios (i.e. EA). If that's what you want then you might as well write-off Arma3 and save your money for CODXVI (will they be using Roman numerals in two years?). --Ben
  12. I'm saying that the constant complaining doesn't help the discussion at all. As a hypothetical, let's say the controls for Arma and Arma2 remain the same, will you then give it up and move on? You see for those of us that don't play CTF/DM, it's not the controls that stop us, it's the gametype itself. Also, for the most part,we didn't play those gametypes in OFP either. To me the controls in Arma (beta 1.09) feel exactly the same as they did in OFP. I believe most of those people that played CTF/DM in OFP have moved on to those types of games and who cares if they don't come back. If BIS really wanted THEIR sales as opposed to OURS, they would have made a Battlefield clone like everyone else. --Ben PS: There should be a sticky in this forum so that all of the PVP discussions (and those PVP discussions disguised as something else) can be contained.
  13. It's simple: If you think that the game isn't designed for PvP, then don't constantly tell us the game stinks, move on to a game that is more to your game style. There are countless twitch shooters out there for you to play. Many of us like the game the way it is and it seems to me that the constant harping on animations and other things only serve to try to make us hate the game as much you do. If you played this game for more than ten hours (which includes Editor time) then you've already gotten your money's worth (COD4 only lasted 6 hours for me) so leave Arma for another game. Why make yourself more miserable, unless you like being miserable. --Ben

    Burning Sands: Africa '42

Happy birthday and isn't funny that as soon as you say that you need help people suggest MORE work for you? Your work is superb! --Ben

How do you select a colored group?

Agreed, I must have posted the exact same thing several times. To re-iterate: Consoles are bad because they dumb down PC games. Console FPS gaming is a compromise in user interface and that is NEVER good: not even for the game on the console. --Ben
  16. Don't try to make this game into something that it isn't and then complain about it. Ply the game that more suits your style. Since 2001 I've only played OFP and Arma just about everyday day with the odd COD and Dungeon Siege thrown in. My nephew plays only COD2 in MP and that game is 4 years old. My son will play every single SP game that comes out until it's beaten (usually in a day or two) and then move on. My point is that if you played the game for more than a week, you got your money's worth and if don't like it anymore move on to something else. Your complaints (suggestions) aren't going to change anything and will probably only make you more frustrated than you are now. --Ben

Interview with Ondrej Spanel ( Suma )

If you don't want to wait 15 months for patches then wait 15 months to buy the game and imagine that the game just came out. Seems like a simple solution to the "waiting for patches" dilemma. --Ben

    ArmA (MP) Scripting

I found that when you switch to a unit (I believe that is NOT in your group) you will have no control over that unit. It is like you are "Being John Malkovich". Also your soul, face, stats and whatever are still part of the original unit. --Ben
  19. I see this as a sign that BIS is leaving the PC community and will in the future embrace ONLY the console community. We all knew it was coming but I thought they could do both. Let's face it, developing for consoles is much more lucrative: shallow, pretty games and a less demanding (read "Less Whiny and Demanding") community and an increase in profits. You can't blame them but I just wonder if I should cease development of my mod now? --Ben
  20. benreeper

So should I get it or not?

If you have to ask the question then don't get it because if you do and the game isn't "Then End all Be All" for you, we would have created another whiner and we do NOT need anymore of those. --Ben
  21. I don't get what you are saying at all Second. What you want is a different game since making the game area smaller will change nothing. There are already highly detailed small islands already and the only change in game play is that the use of aircraft is diminished. We would all like to see improvements but the difference is that the game you want to play is not this game but this is the game many of us here want to play. The game you want to play has not been created yet and there must be a reason for that. --Ben
  22. No it's more like the ''You admittedly don't play the product so why are you here''-attitude. Also: Is calling me a fanboy supposed to be an insult? That's like calling a Ferrari fast. I state in nearly every post that I am indeed a fan of BIS. Thanks for noticing that. --Ben
  23. benreeper

How do you select a colored group?

As a loyal BIS fan I must say that removing this feature was ill advised at least and a glaring mistake at most. It only makes control that much more difficult. Either they thought it was "cooler" this way or it's an ugly by-product of console development (ruined again). I see no reason why it should not be in the next patch. --Ben
  24. I don't, because mentioned reasons. Then why are you here posting in this forumSecond if you don't even play the game? What are looking to get out of this? Are you trying to make sure that we can't play it either? See the the people that hate the game the most DON"T EVEN PLAY IT! Their mission is take our enjoyment away from it also. Well it's not going to work. We still love the game and will defend it. I am a fan of BIS for what they have given me and I always felt that there was an agenda to the attacks on them. Most of the criticisms are extremely unfair and mean spirited. This game is what it is. Once you've stopped playing it, coming here to badmouth it is in very poor taste. --Ben
  25. I have to agree with plaintiff1 on this. I sense a lot of hate and spite toward BIS because the game isn't everything. If they could have done it, they would have done it; you don't know anything they don't know already. They created a game, you created a forum posting. I don't fully know your credentials Balschoiw but I do think that they know more about game programming than possibly you? --Ben
