Its a great FU***** game! End of story. No other game matches it (Other than OFP! ). And if I am wrong, bill me! You have poor taste in games! Like, damm... No other FPS make me feel the wall I crash into it to avoid the bullets coming my way ( Thanks to actually having to avoid the bullets which will kill you WAY faster than the average FPS. ) . Talk about immersion! This rule used to apply to OFP, but now that time has brought it to ArmA: It is the ONLY game I will NOT remove from my computer for want of space. Once its on, it stays on until something better come along. (Hell! My PC is 18 months old and OFP was the first game on it (But played it on other PC's since '02. ) and it just got removed about a month ago! Almost shed a tear for that! ) Happy Hunting yall! alext223.

I like it. I feel it has potential to be a good game. Its a bit tricky to get around using the nano suit, but once you get the hang of it, (And know what the hell you are doing! ) it looks like a bit of good fun where you could get the shit scared out of you turning that next corner. The graphics: WOW... My PC can run the game @ 1152 x 864 with all the setting at med with Fraps hovering around the 15 fps. (B4 U ask: P4 3 GHz, 2.5 GB ram, GA-945P-S3 MoBo, 8600 GTS 512Mb. And XP os ). Now, if I could be able to run the game on max settings, I would be a jubbering idiot! My only problem now is whether to ask santa for Crysis or a Core 2 E6850! I think the CPU.

Oh well, you live and learn. Bought a 8600gts 512 a few months ago for $320 AUD, the cheapest 8800 I could find was $250 more, out of my reach. Now a few months down the track, I can find a 8800 GTS 320 for the SAME PRICE! Bugger.... But to Special Ed, look at the bright side, least you have a card that will work well for a HTPC.

Those pic's look REALl good. D/L now. -
Dude! GANT! You ROCK! You made SS-N-20 SLBM's! And the Typhoon to go with them! MATE! That rocks! Got a 688i to go with that? Perhaps a Alpha SSN or an Akula as well? Mate, you give me hope that there are still people who will devote time and effort on ArmA addons to keep this community alive and not bitch bout wasted effort when OFP2 and ArmA2 are in the pipeline. Thank you dude. (And to those who fall into the same boat as GANT, thank you too! ) Hope its all a piece of piss for ya from now on. And, Get that man a case of coopers, or what ever beer he drinks! God luck man. Hanging on every word. Alext223.

IMO, Mate, they are mainstream FPS. Just go forward and thats it. VERY short term lifespan, game wise I mean, like, what else can you do!? No real exercise of the mind if ya know what I mean. But I must confess, I am a sucker for them. But let me share my last experience with them: Played the demo of MoH Airborne. Ran a treat, Fraps was saying about 30fps overall. And just needed that WW2 fix. (Come on! You know that bug "Saving private Ryan" put into us! And if you don't, you know the games you played! And if it ain't that, its the I44 mod for OFP! OH! If I could just go back to that first day I D/L it! ) Went out to EB games to get it, ( And I live in Australia, so a fresh off the shelf game costs $100 AUD! Yes. I know. I would getter value for my money if I was BLACKMAILED! FFS! ) Got it installed and running. When it comes to the shooting. The F***ing prick drops down to about 5fps! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good waste of money that one! ( Insert torrent of abuse HERE! ) CoD 4. As much i would of like to get to know you. I am going to treat you like a like a woman who has a STD. I'll get the demo off you. But I ain't going all the way. To EA: fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. ( Think it goes like that? ) You ain't getting that second chance mate! Later Yall! Edit: Specs; P4 3.0Ghz, 2.5 GB RAM, 8600GTS 512MB. Ran the demo, but not the game.

Hey all. Got home frm wrk to find this finished D/L'n. To Opteryx, dude, OMFG! I only just did a S to N pass of the map in a heli and had to Alt+tab to say: OMFG! If I have anything useful to say, I'll just edit this post. Man is my imagination in overdrive!

Well there you have it folks! To those gamers out there ( not all of ya. Just most of ya.) you have as much chance as the next guy. Playing FPS might help you shoot straiter, but it won't make you a better soldier. Hell, even Jihad Joe would make a better soldier than you! Only cause he has held a real AK when we were holding the plastic versions your parents bought you in the toy store! Later yall! P.S. @ Mr. Hopper Sorry bout running away with you thread. But, "The army uses war-games to prepare soldiers on a wide range of combat-situations." I just asked "Does it?" What are your thoughts?

Hope its all going well for ya Cedaie. Can't wait to try to drive from Cairns to Darwin the long way (For those of you who don't know: It's " National Highway 1" that goes around the coast of Australia from Cairns to Darwin. Would make for a good holiday! ) But got an idea for a scenario, just reading bout the amount of empty space, you could do like a "Wolf Creek" scenario. Hunt down 3 civies or try to evade the sniper without a gun. But don't know if you could do a cut scene where you could do the 'ol "Head on a stick" routine.

Wow! Thanks for the input guys, and to second, thanks for your input man. Nice to hear it from a person who has to go through it (and if anyone is in the same boat as second, thanks you too. BTW, Second, I've got SB and SB pro PE. So I get what you mean by it just being part of the basic. ) If I could just share my 2 cents worth with what I have read: Virtual training is only good for giving the soldier an idea and nothing else. As for helping officers, I can't comment on that as I can't really form a opinion on it as there isn't much to go on. But if could guess, the REMFs', not the folks on the line, could actually think they were playing a game! Wouldn't that be peace of mind! But I must totally agree with Second, Training should be mostly, if not completely, done in the field with laser weapon systems as this will provide the troops with a better feel of what to expect when it comes to earning their pay. You can't teach a soldier to practice field craft when he or she is sitting down inside nice and dry, IMO, it has to be felt, not thought of in theory. To those who think that virtual training will make better soldiers, ( This is directed to mostly gamers. ) yes, it may help with the ability to point and shoot more accurately, but if I may use what I see to be a similar example: If I know how to fly a plane well in MS Flight Sim X, does that make me qualified to be a pilot? "Attention passengers,. This is the captain speaking. I've only been trained on MS FS X. Hope you enjoy the flight." YEAH FUC**** RIGHT! I'd be off that plane in a heart beat! As would most other people. I just hope that various defense departments NEVER place too much faith in virtual training as I see it as a very limited tool and feels more like a "play break" rather than a training aid. Plain and simple: A computer CAN NOT recreate the stress, pressure, noise, dirt, etc of combat. IMHO, if a soldier can not deal with the sensory overload of combat. They are stuffed. Take it to the field boys! Not the computer lab. "War is sweet to those who have never tasted it." To those who read this and serve in any arm of their nations defense forces. May God speed your safe return to your loved ones and may you live long and peaceful lives. Take care all. Alext223. Edit: To Heatseeker. Just saw you post, and yes that is applicable and I do feel like I am eating my words, but like I said above "I just hope that various defense departments NEVER place too much faith in virtual training". And please bear in mind that I am only talking bout virtual training. Later yall! Edit: If you just read this post, please read my previous post on the second page where I put forward my question about virtual training.

Mr. Hopper, good article man. I looked fwrd to seeing what the outcome was and was not really surprised that the gamers won after reading that the soldiers had very limited experience with VBS 2. But I wonder one thing, what if there was to be a rematch, but with the soldiers to actually be familiar with VBS 2. What would be the outcome? Would their training show in their game play? Would they be able to understand the tactical situation better than the gamers thanks to the money invested into them? I really do wonder. But another thing, in a book I read not too long ago, "From Sun Tzu to Xbox, war and video games" by Ed Halter, in one of the interviews with a sim company in the US, they said that they are trying to create an experience for the soldier so when he or she ( Most likely he.) enters combat and he encounters a situation on which he experienced in the virtual world, they will use that to their advantage and know how to overcome the situation. What I wonder is: Is that possible? Does it REALLY work? I work as a Chef and CAN NOT think of any way that the virtual world can recreate the intensity, let alone the stress, pressure and heat, of feeding 100 people, three courses, in the space of two hours. Yes there may be some things that may help me, but in all honesty, it just means jack shit at the end of the day because this is the real world, not a world of 1's and 0's. When under extreme stress, some humans freeze, I have seen it many a time with people new to my line of work. Hell I've even done that when I first started. I have never served in any arm of my country's defense forces and pray that I will never have to, but, I if I may guess, and to the few of this community whom have served I am sorry if I am wrong by being presumptuous , no matter how much virtual training you may receive, (Please bear in mind that I am only talking bout the small niche of virtual training and not the physical. ) it really doesn't do shit at the end of the day. The screaming you get stays in your head, not the LMB. (Oh, and the screaming's I've copped over my years! ) I am open to opinions on this matter as I have only my experiences to speak of and IMO, that really is not enough to go on. I would like to hear more on this matter and I look forward to see if my hypotheses is coming out of my arse or if it actually has a valid point. If you have experiences in such a situation, your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Yous sincerely. alext223.

Wow! You would hope they don't get any mixed up! Geze!

Got it as a D/L the day after it was released. Prob was it was D/L'n at 40kb/s! Good thing I had to sleep and go to work the next morning. Phew! I like it. IMO, its just 2 campaigns and a few cool addons. Its all good, and again, IMO, for those who have their doubts, you ain't really missing much, but if you can afford the $20 USD, get it. P.S. Wanted to get a hard copy, but when I enquired at EB games, they didn't even have it on computer! Bugger waiting for that!
-
I like it. Played well, didn't feel as buggy as the ArmA camp' (Mind you, still haven't finished that one! Got the shits with it and went back to the editor. ). Story line was ok, and to Spokesperson, sorry if I'm wrong, but you must be a yank. Cause if you were from a country with a monarchy, you would stand up for them. Some of us from Europe are a bit weird like that. Now off to play the SF campaign now. Later yall.

@ SeppSchrot, I do that when I'm doing scripting, etc. It helps! but thank you. @ Balschoiw, Dude, I know, this is the whingers thred and to the building pos, awww hell no. As to you second point, you took that out of context. That is a AI squad, as a group, acting due to a waypoint command and not placing single units in postion. And to the CTDs', I am sorry, I should of said a "odd" insted of a "few". Just happens when I go from editor to game and back really quickly and quite a few times. But got a idea for a mission so off to make it happen. Happy hunting all. Alext223

Works fine with the ArmA DVD. Just got it running, had to reinstall ArmA cause had a *2 install of the game. Don't ask. I like the addons, they are pretty good. As for the campaign, would like to have the time and patience to finish them both, but I like what I see. But looking fwd to what modders can come up with the new models that are with it though.
-
@ Balschoiw. Dude, i do that! And setpos middle, and the setpos getpos, setcombatmode yellow, and cut and paste, blah, blah, blah.... Its just a pain to get them right where u want them in the window ( I get a few CTD when trying to get it right. ) Yes, granted this game doesn't have the programming to put a Sqd into a building and take Pos in every window, let alone in the direction u want them to face in and take cover when under fire. TBH, I'm just going to put up and shut up, cause I can't fix the prob, I'm just going to make do with what I can do. But it would be nice!

The AI when FIBUA (Fighting In Built Up Areas.) SUCKS! It is a PAIN in the ass to set them up in windows and such, and if they can only stay in place when in a group! Feck me! And the scripting! Oh shit.... BIS, READ my words! NOT EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS COMPUTER LANGUAGE! (To you nit pickers, it's closer to that than any spoken language I know! ) Wow, the frustrations on that one! If only they had incorporated a similar ME like the one you find in the Steel Beasts games. Now thats a mission editor! And thats my gripes, Played OFP since '02, and to all you Fecking nit picking, don't do shit but whinge, pass the buck, got the brains but not the motivation bludgers who just throw shit to BIS. Get a life. Besides for what I said bout the game above, LOVE IT! And one more thing, just got QG running, And why does the M249 belt feed INTO the mag? Now, is it just me or is that a bit odd.

Don't worry ethne, I nearly blew my nose into my beer when I read your post. And to volkov956, cheers for the link man, only took a second look, and well.... Stuff my budget! Only wish the D/L was going at full speed, like 40KB/s.... Dude! Hope theres some goodies to find!
-
Good skills mate! They look sweet! Keep up the good work!
-
Yeah. It would be cool fun to go running around in a map like that. Would be nicer if it could run above 15fps and it would be fantastic if the AI could run through a building and take up a position in a window, all by themselves. And while still in group! Who knows, this might be one of the many things we may find in "Game 2". Hurmph! Cough!........

Just the one for the me. TBH, I'm the only person in my circle that plays ArmA! Besides for the clan nights, (Which whom I play with , I don't even know 'em from a bar of soap! Just I.
